1The global significance of biodiversity science in China: an overview显示文摘Biodiversity science in China has seen rapid growth over recent decades,ranging from baseline biodiversity studies to understanding the processes behind evolution across dynamic regions such as the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.We review research,including species catalogues;biodiversity monitoring;the origins,distributions,maintenance and threats to biodiversity;biodiversity-related ecosystem function and services;and species and ecosystems'responses to global change.Next,we identify priority topics and offer suggestions and priorities for future biodiversity research in China.These priorities include(i)the ecology and biogeography of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and surrounding mountains,and that of subtropical and tropical forests across China;(ii)marine and inland aquatic biodiversity;and(iii)effective conservation and management to identify and maintain synergies between biodiversity and socio-economic development to fulfil China's vision for becoming an ecological civilization.In addition,we propose three future strategies:(i)translate advanced biodiversity science into practice for biodiversity conservation;(ii)strengthen capacity building and application of advanced technologies,including high-throughput sequencing,genomics and remote sensing;and(iii)strengthen and expand international collaborations.Based on the recent rapid progress of biodiversity research,China is well positioned to become a global leader in biodiversity research in the near future.Xiangcheng Mi Gang Feng Yibo Hu Jian Zhang Lei Chen Richard T.Corlett Alice C.Hughes Stuart Pimm Bernhard Schmid Suhua Shi Jens-Christian Svenning Keping Ma 2021National Science Review2021,8,7:16
2Comparison of phylobetadiversity indices based on community data from Gutianshan forest plot显示文摘Phylobetadiversity incorporates phylogenetic information and beta diversity,and can account for the ecological similarities between communities with a phylogenetic perspective.Although different phylobetadiversity indices reflect differences in different characteristics between communities,the results of different phylobetadiversity indices are not comparable.In this study we examined phylobetadiversity indices for a 24-hm 2 plot in the Gutianshan National Nature Reserve.It was found the abundanceweighted D pw was almost identical to Rao's D of Rao's quadratic entropy.PhyloSor had a similar ecological meaning and algorithm to UniFrac.Although Dnn was different in definition from UniFrac and PhyloSor,they were all strongly correlated.The effect of species abundance on phylobetadiversity was not significant when scales were relatively small,but was significant at larger scales.These contrasts likely resulted from reductions in evenness in communities as scales increased.P ST and Rao's H better reflected the distance-decay changes caused by spatial and habitat variation than other indices at larger scales,whereas AW-D nn and D nn better reflected these changes at small scales.FENG Gang ZHANG JinLong PEI NanCai RAO MiDe MI XiangCheng REN HaiBao MA KePing 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,6:9
3Error Compensation of Thin Plate-shape Part with Prebending Method in Face Milling显示文摘Low weight and good toughness thin plate parts are widely used in modern industry, but its flexibility seriously impacts the machinability. Plenty of studies focus on the influence of machine tool and cutting tool on the machining errors. However, few researches focus on compensating machining errors through the fixture. In order to improve the machining accuracy of thin plate-shape part in face milling, this paper presents a novel method for compensating the surface errors by prebending the workpiece during the milling process. First, a machining error prediction model using finite element method is formulated, which simplifies the contacts between the workpiece and fixture with spring constraints. Milling forces calculated by the micro-unit cutting force model are loaded on the error prediction model to predict the machining error. The error prediction results are substituted into the given formulas to obtain the prebending clamping forces and clamping positions. Consequently, the workpiece is prebent in terms of the calculated clamping forces and positions during the face milling operation to reduce the machining error. Finally, simulation and experimental tests are carried out to validate the correctness and efficiency of the proposed error compensation method. The experimental measured flatness results show that the flatness improves by approximately 30 percent through this error compensation method. 4Fluoride removal from brackish groundwater by direct contact membrane distillation显示文摘The direct contact membrane distillation applied for fluoride removal from brackish groundwater was investigated.The self-prepared polyvinylidene fluoride membrane exhibited high rejection of inorganic salt solutes.The maximum permeate flux 35.6 kg/(m2 ·hr) was obtained with the feed solution at 80°C and the cold distillate water at 20°C.The feed concentration had no significant impact on the permeate flux and the rejection in fluoride.The precipitation of CaCO3 would clog the hollow fiber inlets and foul the membrane surface with increasing concentration factor when natural groundwater was used directly as the feed,which resulted in a rapid decline in the module efficiency.This phenomenon was diminished by acidification of the feed.The experimental results showed that the permeate flux and the quality of obtained distillate kept stable before concentration factor reached 5.0 with the acidified groundwater as feed.The membrane module efficiency began to decline gradually when the feed continued to be concentrated,which can be mainly attributed to the formation of CaF2 deposits on the membrane surface.In addition,a 300 hr continuous fluoride removal experiment of acidified groundwater was carried out with concentration factor at 4.0,the permeate flux kept stable and the permeate fluoride was not detected.Deyin Hou Jun Wang Changwei Zhao Baoqiang Wang Zhaokun Luan Xiangcheng Sun 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,12:7

6Experimental study on spectral responses of offshore oil slick显示文摘Using the seawater taken from Liaodong Bay and crude oil taken from Liaohe Oilfield,a laboratory experiment was designed to study the change of reflectance spectrum of artificial offshore oil slick with its thickness and to identify the spectrum ranges suitable for quantifying the thickness of the oil slick.During the experiment,crude oil was continuously dropped into the seawater to generate artificial oil slick with different thicknesses.After every drop of crude oil was added,reflectance spectrum of the oil slick was measured with a high resolution spectroradiometer(ASD FieldSpec Pro FR).The influence of oil slick thickness on its reflectance spectrum was explored through statistical analysis.The results show that the reflectance of oil slick changes marginally with oil slick thickness and higher than that of seawater in infrared band from 1150 to 2500 nm.This spectrum range can be practically used to distinguish oil slick from seawater.In the spectrum range from 400 to 1150 nm,the reflectance of oil slick decreases with its thickness.The negative power function is the best-fit function expressing the relationship between the reflectance and thickness.The spectral characteristics of oil slick are very distinct at 550 and 645 nm.They are the best wavelengths for monitoring the existence of offshore oil slick and estimating its thickness.LU YingCheng TIAN QingJiu WANG JingJing WANG XiangCheng QI XiaoPing 2008Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,24:6
7Glycyrrhizic acid promotes sciatic nerves recovery in type 1 diabetic rats and protects Schwann cells from high glucose-induced cytotoxicity显示文摘The present study aims to investigate the therapeutic effect and mechanism of glycyrrhizic acid(GA)in diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).GA significantly mitigated nerve conduction velocity(NCV)deficit and morphological abnormality and reduced high-mobility group box-1(HMGB1)expression in the sciatic nerves of diabetic rats independent of blood glucose and body weight.Notably,GA alleviated the increase of HMGB1 and the decrease of cell viability in high glucose-stimulated RSC96 cells.Furthermore,GA obviously reduced the concentration of inflammatory cytokines in the sciatic nerves of diabetic rats and supernatants of high glucose-exposed RSC96 cells,then restored the decreased expression levels of nerve growth factor(NGF)and neuritin-1,and the increased expression levels of cleaved caspase-3 and neuron-specific enolase.Additionally,GA markedly inhibited receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE)expression,p38MAPK phosphorylation,and the nuclear translocation of NF-κBp65 in diabetic rats and high glucose-exposed RSC96 cells.The promotional effect of high glucose in RSC96 cells was diminished following Hmgb1 siRNA treatment.Our findings indicate that GA may exert neuroprotection on DPN by suppressing HMGB1,which lead to extenuation of inflammation response,balance of NGF,neuritin-1 and caspase-3,as well as inactivation of RAGE/p38MAPK/NF-κBp65 signaling pathway.Min Shi Xiangcheng Zhang Ridong Zhang Hong Zhang Dalong Zhu Xiao Han 2022The Journal of Biomedical Research2022,36,3:5

9Application of regional citrate anticoagulation in patients at high risk of bleeding during intermittent hemodialysis:a prospective multicenter randomized controlled trial显示文摘Objective:Safe and effective anticoagulation is essential for hemodialysis patients who are at high risk of bleeding.The purpose of this trial is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of two-stage regional citrate anticoagulation(RCA)combined with sequential anticoagulation and standard calcium-containing dialysate in intermittent hemodialysis(IHD)treatment.Methods:Patients at high risk of bleeding who underwent IHD from September 2019 to May 2021 were prospectively enrolled in 13 blood purification centers of nephrology departments,and were randomly divided into RCA group and saline flushing group.In the RCA group,0.04 g/mL sodium citrate was infused from the start of the dialysis line during blood draining and at the venous expansion chamber.The sodium citrate was stopped after 3 h of dialysis,which was changed to sequential dialysis without anticoagulant.The hazard ratios for coagulation were according to baseline.Results:A total of 159 patients and 208 sessions were enrolled,including RCA group(80 patients,110 sessions)and saline flushing group(79 patients,98 sessions).The incidence of severe coagulation events of extracorporeal circulation in the RCA group was significantly lower than that in the saline flushing group(3.64%vs.20.41%,P<0.001).The survival time of the filter pipeline in the RCA group was significantly longer than that in the saline flushing group((238.34±9.33)min vs.(221.73±34.10)min,P<0.001).The urea clearance index(Kt/V)in the RCA group was similar to that in the saline flushing group with no statistically significant difference(1.12±0.34 vs.1.08±0.34,P=0.41).Conclusions:Compared with saline flushing,the two-stage RCA combined with a sequential anticoagulation strategy significantly reduced extracorporeal circulation clotting events and prolonged the dialysis time without serious adverse events.Xiaoyan TANG Dezheng CHEN Ling ZHANG Ping FU Yanxia CHEN Zhou XIAO Xiangcheng XIAO Weisheng PENG Li CHENG Yanmin ZHANG Hongbo LI Kehui LI Bizhen GOU Xin WU Qian YU Lijun JIAN Zaizhi ZHU Yu WEN Cheng LIU Hen XUE Hongyu ZHANG Xin HE Bin YAN Liping ZHONG Bin HUANG Mingying MAO 2022Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2022,23,11:4
10Oxygen vacancy enhanced biomimetic superoxide dismutase activity of CeO_(2)-Gd nanozymes显示文摘Cerium oxide-based nanozymes have recently drawn much attention in the field of biomedical and antioxidant applications,because of their unique regenerative or autocatalytic properties.Herein,we studied the biomimetic superoxide dismutase(SOD)nanozymes CeO_(2)-Gd that combines the fluorescence properties of rare earth Gd with the antioxidant properties of CeO_(2)nanoparticles,which was prepared via facile route.The structure and composition of the CeO_(2)-Gd were measured and verified by X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),Raman spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),and X-ray electron spectroscopy(XPS).Confocal microscopy was used to image cells.Antioxidant performance and cell viability of these nanozymes were measured in vitro using BGC-803 cell.CeO_(2)-Gd nanozymes with a higher Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratio show higher superoxide dismutase(SOD)mimetic activity.Their antioxidant activity and fluorescence properties of CeO_(2)-Gd in BGC-803 cancer cells are enhanced by oxygen vacancies generated by doping rare-earth elements Gd.This work may guide the future design of CeO_(2)-Gd-based biomimetic nanozymes for anticancer and antioxidant applications.Xiangcheng Shi Jingjie Yang Xintong Wen Fuii Tian Changyan Li 2021Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,9:4
11Insecticidal activity of residual Bt protein at the second trophic level显示文摘Measurements were taken of Bt protein expressed in the leaves of transgenic cotton (Gos- sypium hirsutum) transformed with a synthesized Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) cry1A gene and its persistent level in larval bodies and faeces of a non-targeted insect pest, beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua). We performed enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and bioassays using neonate larvae of cot- ton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera) to detect the insecticidal activity of residual Bt protein at the sec- ond trophic level. The results showed that Bt protein content in functional leaves was different at various developmental stages and was different among plants at the same stage. Even though Bt protein concentration in the larval bodies and faeces de- creased 97.5%―99% compared to that found in cotton leaves subsequently fed to beet armyworm larvae, it still had a lethal effect on neonate cotton bollworm larvae. Therefore, Bt protein present at the second trophic level had insecticidal activity. 13Reducing nitrogen application with dense planting increases nitrogen use efficiency by maintaining root growth in a double-rice cropping system显示文摘Rational nitrogen(N) application can greatly increase rice(Oryza sativa L.) yield. However, excessive N input can lead not only to low N use efficiency(NUE) but also to severe environmental pollution.Reducing N application rate with a higher planting density(RNHD) is recommended to maintain rice yield and improve NUE. The effects of RNHD on fertilizer N fate and rice root growth traits remain unclear. We accordingly conducted a two-year field experiment to investigate the influence of RNHD on rice yield, fertilizer 15N fate, and root growth in a double-rice cropping system in China. In comparison with the conventional practice of high N application with sparse planting, RNHD resulted in similar yield and biomass production as well as plant N uptake. RNHD increased agronomic NUEs by 23.3%–31.9%(P < 0.05) and N recovery efficiency by 17.4%–24.1%(P < 0.05). RNHD increased fertilizer 15N recovery rate by 14.5%–34.7%(P < 0.05), but reduced15 N retention rate by 9.2%–12.0%(P < 0.05). Although a reduced N rate led to significantly reduced root length, surface area, volume, and biomass, these root traits were significantly increased by higher planting density. RNHD did not affect these root morphological traits and reduced activities of nitrate reductase(NR) and glutamine synthetase(GS) only at tillering stage. Plant N uptake was significantly positively correlated with these root traits, but not correlated with NR and GS activities. 14Pore Size Distribution and Its Quantitative Relationship with Strength of Corundum Based Castables显示文摘A series of corundum based castables with 0,2%,4%,6%,and 8% α-Al2O3 micropowders were prepared using tabular alumina aggregates (6-3,3-1 and ≤1 mm) and fines (≤0.088 and ≤0.045 mm),calcium aluminate cement,and α-Al2O3 micropowders (d50=1.754 μm) as starting materials. Cold mechanical strength and pore size distribution of the castables specimens after heat treatment at 110,1 100 and 1 500 ℃ were tested,respectively. The quantitative relationship between strength and apparent porosity,and that between strength and median pore diameter were verified by Atzeni equation. The correlation between interval of pore size and mechanical strength of specimens was also studied by means of gray relational theory. The results show that:(1) the pore size distribution of castables is strongly influenced by both micropowders filling and matrix sintering; the addition of micropowders decreases median pore diameter while the sintering process increases it; (2) when adding a constant correction term,Atzeni equation can substantially describe the quantitative relationship between median pore diameter and strength of castables specimens after heat treatment at the same temperature; the significant differences of the gray relational degree between the interval of pore size and castables strength are characterized; it is also found that for the same interval of pore size,the gray relational degree isaffected by the heat treatment temperature; the pore size interval <0.5 μm has the highest gray relational degree with the strength at 110-1 500 ℃.FANG Binxiang ZHU Boquan LI Xiangcheng WAN Hongbo 2010China's Refractories2010,19,4:2
15Spatial variation in community structure of a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest:Implications for sampling design显示文摘With the full survey data for a 24-ha subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest dynamics plot,we evaluated spatial variation in forest structure characteristics(basal area and aboveground biomass),and calculated the minimal sample size and total sampling area necessary to estimate the forest structure characteristics within 20%(±10%) of the observed values with 95% probability for particular quadrat sizes by using a computer program that is designed to simulate the sampling process by allowing different sized quadrats to be randomly located within the sampling region.We found that(1) based on the 600 20 m×20 m subplots,basal area and aboveground biomass displayed a high degree of variation,with respective coefficients of variation of 27% and 31%;(2) based on the computer simulation analysis,the variability of basal area and aboveground biomass decreased with increasing quadrat size.The number of quadrats required to achieve the specified degree of precision dropped sharply with the increase of quadrat size.However,the total sampling area increased with increasing quadrat size,suggesting that using several small quadrats across the sampling area is more efficient than using fewer larger quadrats.Results of this study are valuable for evaluating the reliability of previous research and may assist researchers in designing effective sampling strategies for future field surveys,particularly in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests in China.LIN DunMei LAI JiangShan MI XiangCheng REN HaiBao MA KePing 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,10:2
16Correlation of radiotherapy with prognosis of elderly patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer according to immunohistochemical subtyping显示文摘Objective: The present study examined the effect of radiotherapy on recurrence and survival in elderly patients with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.Methods: A retrospective analysis of 327 patients aged ≥65 years, with stage I-II, hormone receptor-positive breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery and received endocrine therapy(ET) or radiotherapy plus endocrine therapy(ET+RT) was performed. Both groups were divided into luminal A type and luminal B type subgroups. Evaluation criteria were 5-year disease-free survival(DFS), local relapse rate(LRR), overall survival(OS), and distant metastasis rate(DMR).Results: There were significant differences in 5-year DFS [hazard ratio(HR)=1.59, 95% confidence interval(95% CI), 1.15-2.19;P=0.005] and LRR(HR=3.33, 95% CI, 1.51-7.34;P=0.003), whereas there were no significant differences in OS and DMR between ET group and ET+RT group. In luminal A type, there was no significant difference in 5-year DFS, LRR, OS and DMR between ET group and ET+RT group. In luminal B type,there were statistically significant differences in 5-year DFS(HR=2.19, 95% CI, 1.37-3.49;P=0.001), LRR(HR=5.45, 95% CI, 1.65-17.98;P=0.005), and OS(HR=1.75, 95% CI, 1.01-3.05;P=0.048) between ET group and ET+RT group. 17Sulfur-deficient Co9S8/Ni3S2 nanoflakes anchored on N-doped graphene nanotubes as high-performance electrode materials for asymmetric supercapacitors显示文摘In this paper,Co9S8/Ni3S2 nanoflakes(NFs)with sulfur deficiencies were grown in-situ on N-doped graphene nanotubes(NGNTs).They were successfully prepared through electrodeposition followed by hydrogenation treatment,which is able to act as a self-supported electrode for asymmetric supercapacitors(ASCs).Combining the defect-rich active materials with highly conductive skeletons,the hybrid electrode N-GNTs@sd-Co9S8/Ni3S2NFs show ultrahigh specific capacity of^304 mA hg^-1 and prominent rate capability(capacity retention ratio of^85%even at 100 Ag^-1),and deliver a long cycling lifespan of^1.9%capacitance loss after 10000 cycles.In addition,an ASC was constructed using the as-synthesized composite electrode as the positive electrode and active carbon(AC)as the negative electrode.The fabricated device shows a high energy density of^45.1 Wh kg^-1 at^3.4 kW kg^-1 and superior cycling stability.This work substantiates a smart strategy to fabricate novel composite electrode materials for next-generation supercapacitors by incorporating riched deficiencies into nanostructures.ZHAO Jian SONG GuanYing YUAN XiangCheng SHEN Tong JIANG QingYan MENG ALan LIN YuSheng LI ZhenJiang LI QingDang 2020Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,4:2
18Proper animal experimental designs for preclinical research of biomaterials for intervertebral disc regeneration显示文摘Low back pain is a vital musculoskeletal disease that impairs life quality,leads to disability and imposes heavy economic burden on the society,while it is greatly attributed to intervertebral disc degeneration(IDD).However,the existing treatments,such as medicines,chiropractic adjustments and surgery,cannot achieve ideal disc regeneration.Therefore,advanced bioactive therapies are implemented,including stem cells delivery,bioreagents administration,and implantation of biomaterials etc.Among these researches,few reported unsatisfying regenerative outcomes.However,these advanced therapies have barely achieved successful clinical translation.The main reason for the inconsistency between satisfying preclinical results and poor clinical translation may largely rely on the animal models that cannot actually simulate the human disc degeneration.The inappropriate animal model also leads to difficulties in comparing the efficacies among biomaterials in different reaches.Therefore,animal models that better simulate the clinical charateristics of human IDD should be acknowledged.In addition,in vivo regenerative outcomes should be carefully evaluated to obtain robust results.Nevertheless,many researches neglect certain critical characteristics,such as adhesive properties for biomaterials blocking annulus fibrosus defects and hyperalgesia that is closely related to the clinical manifestations,e.g,low back pain.Herein,in this review,we summarized the animal models established for IDD,and highlighted the proper models and parameters that may result in acknowledged IDD models.Then,we discussed the existing biomaterials for disc regeneration and the characteristics that should be considered for regenerating different parts of discs.Finally,well-established assays and parameters for in vivo disc regeneration are explored.Yizhong Peng Xiangcheng Qing Hongyang Shu Shuo Tian Wenbo Yang Songfeng Chen Hui Lin Xiao Lv Lei Zhao Xi Chen Feifei Pu Donghua Huang Xu Cao Zengwu Shao 2021Biomaterials Translational2021,2,2:2
