Bio-reduction of nitrate from groundwater using a hydrogen-based membrane biofilm reactor显示文摘A hydrogen-based membrane biofilm reactor(MBfR) using H2 as electron donor was investigated to remove nitrate from groundwater. When nitrate was first introduced to the MBfR,denitrification took place on the shell side of the membranes immediately, and the effluent concentration of nitrate continuously decreased with 100% removal rate on day 45 under the influent nitrate concentration of 5 mg NO3--N/L,which described the acclimating and enriching process of autohydrogenotrophic denitrification bacteria.A series of short-term experiments were applied to investigate the effects of hydrogen pressures and nitrate loadings on denitrification. The results showed that nitrate reduction rate improved as H2 pressure increasing, and over 97% of total nitrogen removal rate was achieved when the nitrate loading increased from 0.17 to 0.34 g NO3--N/(m2 ·day) without nitrite accumulation. The maximum denitrification rate was 384 g N/(m3 ·day).Partial sulfate reduction, which occurred in parallel to nitrate reduction, was inhibited by denitrififcation due to the competition for H2 .This research showed that MBfR is effective for removing nitrate from the contaminated groundwater.Siqing Xia Fohua Zhong Yanhao Zhang Haixiang Li Xin Yang 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,2:23
Recent progress in Ti-based nanocomposite anodes for lithium ion batteries显示文摘Studying on the anode materials with high energy densities for next-generation lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) is the key for the wide application for electrochemical energy storage devices.Ti-based compounds as promising anode materials are known for their outstanding high-rate capacity and cycling stability as well as improved safety over graphite. However, Ti-based materials still suffer from the low capacity, thus largely limiting their commercialized application. Here, we present an overview of the recent development of Ti-based anode materials in LIBs, and special emphasis is placed on capacity enhancement by rational design of hybrid nanocomposites with conversion-/alloying-type anodes. This review is expected to provide a guidance for designing novel Ti-based materials for energy storage and conversion.Shitong WANG Yong YANG Yanhao DONG Zhongtai ZHANG Zilong TANG 2019Journal of Advanced Ceramics2019,8,1:10
Transcriptome analysis reveals key differentially expressed genes involved in wheat grain development显示文摘Wheat seed development is an important physiological process of seed maturation and directly affects wheat yield and quality. In this study, we performed dynamic transcriptome microarray analysis of an elite Chinese bread wheat cultivar(Jimai 20) during grain development using the Gene Chip Wheat Genome Array. Grain morphology and scanning electron microscope observations showed that the period of 11–15 days post-anthesis(DPA) was a key stage for the synthesis and accumulation of seed starch. Genome-wide transcriptional profiling and significance analysis of microarrays revealed that the period from 11 to 15 DPA was more important than the 15–20 DPA stage for the synthesis and accumulation of nutritive reserves.Series test of cluster analysis of differential genes revealed five statistically significant gene expression profiles. Gene ontology annotation and enrichment analysis gave further information about differentially expressed genes, and Map Man analysis revealed expression changes within functional groups during seed development. Metabolic pathway network analysis showed that major and minor metabolic pathways regulate one another to ensure regular seed development and nutritive reserve accumulation. We performed gene co-expression network analysis to identify genes that play vital roles in seed development and identified several key genes involved in important metabolic pathways. The transcriptional expression of eight key genes involved in starch and protein synthesis and stress defense was further validated by q RT-PCR. Our results provide new insight into the molecular mechanisms of wheat seed development and the determinants of yield and quality.Yonglong Yu Dong Zhu Chaoying Ma Hui Cao Yaping Wang Yanhao Xu Wenying Zhang Yueming Yan 2016The Crop Journal2016,4,2:6

Investigation of PM_(2.5) pollution during COVID-19 pandemic in Guangzhou,China显示文摘The COVID-19 pandemic has raised awareness about various environmental issues,includ-ing PM_(2.5) pollution.Here,PM_(2.5) pollution during the COVID-19 lockdown was traced and an-alyzed to clarify the sources and factors influencing PM_(2.5) in Guangzhou, with an emphasis on heavy pollution. The lockdown led to large reductions in industrial and traffic emissions, which significantly reduced PM_(2.5) concentrations in Guangzhou.Interestingly, the trend of PM_(2.5) concentrations was not consistent with traffic and industrial emissions,as minimum concentrations were observed in the fourth period(3/01-3/31,22.45 μg/m^(3))of the lockdown. However, the concentrations of other gaseous pollutants,e.g.,SO_(2),NO_(2) and CO,were corre-lated with industrial and traffic emissions, and the lowest values were noticed in the sec-ond period(1/24-2/0_(3))of the lockdown.Meteorological correlation analysis revealed that the decreased PM_(2.5) concentrations during COVID-19 can be mainly attributed to decreased in-dustrial and traffic emissions rather than meteorological conditions. When meteorological factors were included in the PM_(2.5) composition and backward trajectory analyses,we found that long-distance transportation and secondary pollution offset the reduction of primary emissions in the second and third stages of the pandemic.Notably, industrial PM_(2.5) emis-sions from western, southern and southeastern Guangzhou play an important role in the formation of heavy pollution events. Our results not only verify the importance of control-ling traffic and industrial emissions, but also provide targets for further improvements in PM_(2.5) pollution.Luyao Wen Chun Yang Xiaoliang Liao Yanhao Zhang Xuyang Chai Wenjun Gao Shulin Guo Yinglei Bi Suk-Ying Tsang Zhi-Feng Chen Zenghua Qi Zongwei Cai 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,5:2
Biomarkers of aging显示文摘Aging biomarkers are a combination of biological parameters to(i)assess age-related changes,(ii)track the physiological aging process, and(iii)predict the transition into a pathological status.Although a broad spectrum of aging biomarkers has been developed, their potential uses and limitations remain poorly characterized. An immediate goal of biomarkers is to help us answer the following three fundamental questions in aging research:How old are we?Why do we get old?And how can we age slower? This review aims to address this need. Here,we summarize our current knowledge of biomarkers developed for cellular, organ, and organismal levels of aging, comprising six pillars:physiological characteristics, medical imaging, histological features, cellular alterations, molecular changes, and secretory factors. To fulfill all these requisites,we propose that aging biomarkers should qualify for being specific, systemic, and clinically relevant.Aging Biomarker Consortium Hainan Bao Jiani Cao Mengting Chen Min Chen Wei Chen Xiao Chen Yanhao Chen Yu Chen Yutian Chen Zhiyang Chen Jagadish K Chhetri Yingjie Ding Junlin Feng Jun Guo Mengmeng Guo Chuting He Yujuan Jia Haiping Jiang Ying Jing Dingfeng Li Jiaming Li Jingyi Li Qinhao Liang Rui Liang Feng Liu Xiaoqian Liu Zuojun Liu Oscar Junhong Luo Jianwei Lv Jingyi Ma Kehang Mao Jiawei Nie Xinhua Qiao Xinpei Sun Xiaoqiang Tang Jianfang Wang Qiaoran Wang Siyuan Wang Xuan Wang Yaning Wang Yuhan Wang Rimo Wu Kai Xia Fu-Hui Xiao Lingyan Xu Yingying Xu Haoteng Yan Liang Yang Ruici Yang Yuanxin Yang Yilin Ying Le Zhang Weiwei Zhang Wenwan Zhang Xing Zhang Zhuo Zhang Min Zhou Rui Zhou Qingchen Zhu Zhengmao Zhu Feng Cao Zhongwei Cao Piu Chan Chang Chen Guobing Chen Hou-Zao Chen Jun Chen Weimin Ci Bi-Sen Ding Qiurong Ding Feng Gao Jing-Dong JHan Kai Huang Zhenyu Ju Qing-Peng Kong Ji Li Jian Li Xin Li Baohua Liu Feng Liu Lin Liu Qiang Liu Qiang Liu Xingguo Liu Yong Liu Xianghang Luo Shuai Ma Xinran Ma Zhiyong Mao Jing Nie Yaojin Peng Jing Qu Jie Ren Ruibao Ren Moshi Song Zhou Songyang Yi Eve Sun Yu Sun Mei Tian Shusen Wang Si Wang Xia Wang Xiaoning Wang Yan-Jiang Wang Yunfang Wang Catherine CL Wong Andy Peng Xiang Yichuan Xiao Zhengwei Xie Daichao Xu Jing Ye Rui Yue Cuntai Zhang Hongbo Zhang Liang Zhang Weiqi Zhang Yong Zhang Yun-Wu Zhang Zhuohua Zhang Tongbiao Zhao Yuzheng Zhao Dahai Zhu Weiguo Zou Gang Pei Guang-Hui Liu 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,5:2
Whole-genome Duplication Reshaped Adaptive Evolution in A Relict Plant Species,Cyclocarya paliurus显示文摘Cyclocarya paliurus is a relict plant species that survived the last glacial period and shows a population expansion recently. Its leaves have been traditionally used to treat obesity and diabetes with the well-known active ingredient cyclocaric acid B.Here,we presented three C.paliurus genomes from two diploids with different flower morphs and one haplotype-resolved tetraploid assembly.Comparative genomic analysis revealed two rounds of recent whole-genome duplication events and identified 691 genes with dosage effects that likely contribute to adaptive evolution through enhanced photosynthesis and increased accumulation of triterpenoids.Resequencing analysis of 45 C.paliurus individuals uncovered two bottlenecks, consistent with the known events of environmental changes, and many selectively swept genes involved in critical biological functions, including plant defense and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. We also proposed the biosynthesis pathway of cyclocaric acid B based on multi-omics data and identified key genes,in particular gibberellinrelated genes, associated with the heterodichogamy in C.paliurus species. Our study sheds light on evolutionary history of C.paliurus and provides genomic resources to study the medicinal herbs.Yinquan Qu Xulan Shang Ziyan Zeng Yanhao Yu Guoliang Bian Wenling Wang Li Liu Li Tian Shengcheng Zhang Qian Wang Dejin Xie Xuequn Chen Zhenyang Liao Yibin Wang Jian Qin Wanxia Yang Caowen Sun Xiangxiang Fu Xingtan Zhang Shengzuo Fang 2023Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2023,21,3:1
Pressureless two-step sintering of ultrafine-grained refractory metals:Tungsten-rhenium and molybdenum显示文摘The challenge of sintering ultrafine-grained refractory metals and alloys to full density is hereby addressed by pressureless two-step sintering in tungsten-rhenium alloy and pure molybdenum. Using properly processed nano powders(~50 nm average particle size), we are able to sinter W-10Re alloy to 98.4% density below 1200 ℃ while maintaining a fine grain size of 260 nm, and sinter molybdenum to 98.3% density below 1120 ℃ while maintaining a fine grain size of 290 nm. Compared to normal sintering,two-step sintering offers record-fine grain sizes and better microstructural uniformity, which translates to better mechanical properties with higher hardness(6.3 GPa for tungsten-rhenium and 4.0 GPa for molybdenum, both being the highest in all pressurelessly sintered samples of the respective material system)and larger Weibull modulus. Together with our previous demonstration in tungsten, we believe that twostep sintering is a general effective method to produce high-quality fine-grained refractory metals and alloys, and the lessons learned here are transferable to other materials for powder metallurgy.Zhongyou Que Zichen Wei Xingyu Li Lin Zhang Yanhao Dong Mingli Qin Junjun Yang Xuanhui Qu Ju Li 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,31:1

Application of a real-ambient fine particulate matter exposure system on different animal models显示文摘Simulation of fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))exposure is essential for evaluating adverse health effects. In this work,an ambient exposure system that mimicked real atmospheric conditions was installed in Taiyuan,China to study impacts of chronic PM_(2.5) exposure on adult and aged mice as well as Sirtuin3 knockout(Sirt3 KO)mice and wild-type(WT)mice.The real-ambient exposure system eliminated the possible artificial effects caused from exposure experiments and maintained the physiochemical characteristics of PM_(2.5).The case studies indicated that aged mice exhibited apparent heart dysfunction involving in-creased heart rate and decreased blood pressure after 17-week of real-ambient PM_(2.5) exposure.Meanwhile,15-week of real-ambient PM_(2.5) exposure decreased the heart rate and amounts of associated catecholamines to induce heart failure in Sirt3 KO mice.Additionally, the increased pro-inflammatory cytokines and decreased platelet related indices suggested that inflammation occurred. The changes of biomarkers detected by targeted metabolomics confirmed metabolic disorder in WT and Sirt3 KO mice after exposed to real-ambient PM_(2.5).These results indicated that the real-ambient PM_(2.5) exposure system could evaluate the risks of certain diseases associated with air pollution and have great potential for support-ing the investigations of PM_(2.5) effects on other types of rodent models.Yuanyuan Song Lifang Zhao Zenghua Qi Yanhao Zhang Guodong Cao Ruijin Li Lin Zhu Zhu Yang Chuan Dong Zongwei Cai 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,7:1
Multi-omics analysis of attenuated variant reveals potential evaluation marker of host damaging for SARS-CoV-2 variants显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 continues to threaten human society by generating novel variants via mutation and recombination. The high number of mutations that appeared in emerging variants not only enhanced their immune-escaping ability but also made it difficult to predict the pathogenicity and virulence based on viral nucleotide sequences.Molecular markers for evaluating the pathogenicity of new variants are therefore needed.By comparing host responses to wild-type and variants with attenuated pathogenicity at proteome and metabolome levels, six key molecules on the polyamine biosynthesis pathway including putrescine,SAM,dc-SAM,ODC1,SAMS,and SAMDC were found to be differentially upregulated and associated with pathogenicity of variants. To validate our discovery, human airway organoids were subsequently used which recapitulates SARS-CoV-2 replication in the airway epithelial cells of COVID-19 patients.Using ODC1 as a proof-ofconcept,differential activation of polyamine biosynthesis was found to be modulated by the renin-angiotensin system(RAS)and positively associated with ACE2 activity.Further experiments demonstrated that ODC1 expression could be differentially activated upon a panel of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern(VOCs)and was found to be correlated with each VOCs’pathogenic properties.Particularly, the presented study revealed the discriminative ability of key molecules on polyamine biosynthesis as a predictive marker for virulence evaluation and assessment of SARS-CoV-2 variants in cell or organoid models. Our work, therefore, presented a practical strategy that could be potentially applied as an evaluation tool for the pathogenicity of current and emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants.Guangshan Xie Lin Zhu Siwen Liu Cun Li Xin Diao Yanhao Zhang Xiuli Su Yuanyuan Song Guodong Cao Li Zhong Pui Wang Xiaojuan Liu Bobo Wing-Yee Mok Shusheng Zhang Dong-Yan Jin Jie Zhou Honglin Chen Zongwei Cai 2024Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,1:0

Hypercompact CRISPR–Cas12j2 (CasF) enables genome editing, gene activation, and epigenome editing in plants显示文摘CRISPR-Cas9,-Cas12a,-Cas12b,and-Cas13 have been harnessed for genome engineering in human and plant cells(Liu et al.,2022).However,the large size of these Cas proteins(e.g.190 kDa for SpCas9)makes them difficult to deliver into cells via a viral vector. The development of smaller Cas proteins will lead to reduced viral vector sizes that can be more widely adopted in versatile genome engineering systems.Recently,a CRISPR-Cas12j2(CasF)system was discovered in huge phages and developed into a hypercompact genome editor due to the small size of Cas12j2(80 kDa)(Pausch et al.,2020).Unfortunately,the gene editing efficiency of Cas12j2 in Arabidopsis protoplasts using ribonucleoprotein delivery was less than one percent(Pausch et al.,2020).Further optimization of this system is clearly required if CRISPR-Cas12j2-mediated editing in plant genomes is to be adopted by the plant sciences community.Shishi Liu Simon Sretenovic Tingting Fan Yanhao Cheng Gen Li Aileen Qi Xu Tang Yang Xu Weijun Guo Zhaohui Zhong Yao He Yanling Liang Qinqin Han Xuelian Zheng Xiaofeng Gu Yiping Qi Yong Zhang 2022Plant Communications2022,3,6:0
Physiological Changes and Antioxidative Mechanisms of Alternanthera philoxeroides in Phytoremediation of Cadmium显示文摘This study evaluated the physiological characteristics(e.g.,growth parameters, chlorophyll content, metabolites and antioxidative enzymes activity)of Alternanthera philoxeroides(A.philoxeroides),as a hyperaccumulator plant, during the phytoremediation of cadmium(Cd)from water. After cultivating A.philoxeroides in a Cd-containing medium for 30 days, the growth rate was inhibited by up to 33.5%as the exposed Cd concentration increased to 0.80 mmol·L−1.Cd exposure interfered with the photosynthesis of A.philoxeroides and caused oxidative stress as indicated by the rise of malondialdehyde(MDA)and H2O2,which increased by 8 times and 3 times compared to the control group. Moreover, high exposure concentrations of Cd also reduced the activities of multiple antioxidants(e.g.,GSH and AsA),indicating the inhibition of Cd on the plant’s ability to mitigate oxidative damage. Finally, the fluorescent patterns of the rhizosphere dissolved organic matter(rDOM)revealed three major components(humic, fulvic substances and protein-like substances)well correlated with the changes in antioxidant activities.Partial least-squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)visualized the difference in the activity of the antioxidative enzymes between different groups. The study unravelled deep insights into the potential mechanisms of tolerance and resistance of A.philoxeroides for phytoremediation of Cd pollution.Dajiang Yan Shan Xue Zhibin Zhang Guodong Xu Yanhao Zhang Yanfeng Shi Menglong Xing Wen Zhang 2023Environment & Health2023,1,2:0
Atmospheric pressure gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis of fourteen emerging polycyclic aromatic sulfur heterocycles in PM_(2.5)显示文摘Research on pollution characteristics and toxicities of emerging polycyclic aromatic sulfur heterocycles(PASHs) in PM_(2.5) has not been reported due to the lack of analytical method with the needed performance. In the present study,a novel method for the determination of 14 PASHs in PM_(2.5) was developed using atmospheric pressure gas chro matography-tandem mass spectrometry(APGC-MS/MS).Atmospheric pressure chemical ionization was operated with multiple reaction monitoring in positive ionization mode.High sensitivity(method detection limit <1.673 pg/m^(3)),acceptable re coveries(67.6%-120.8%) and precisions(RSD of 2.2%-15.4%) were obtained. The method was successfully applied for analyzing PASHs in 10 PM_(2.5) samples collected from Taiyuan,a typical industrial city in China,in 2016,The total concentrations were from 929 pg/m^(3) to 14,593 pg/m^(3).The determined levels indicated that further investigations on environmental fate and toxicities of PM_(2.5)-bound PASHs may be needed.Yanhao Zhang Yi-Jie Chen Yuanyuan Song Chuan Dong Zongwei Cai 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,2:0
