3LARGE-EDDY SIMULATION OF TURBULENT FLOW CONSIDERING INFLOW WAKES IN A FRANCIS TURBINE BLADE PASSAGE显示文摘Turbulent flow in a 3-D blade passage of a Francis hydro turbine was simulated with the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) to investigate the spatial and temporal distributions of the turbulence when strongly distorted wakes in the inflow sweep over the passage. In a suitable consideration of the energy exchanging mechanism between the large and small scales in the complicated passage with a strong 3-D curvature,one-coefficient dynamic Sub-Grid-Scale (SGS) stress model was used in this article. The simulations show that the strong wakes in the inflow lead to a flow separation at the leading zone of the passage,and to form a primary vortex in the span-wise direction. The primary span-wise vortex evolves and splits into smaller vortex pairs due to the constraint of no-slip wall condition,which triggers losing stability of the flow in the passage. 4Toward Intelligent Machine Tool显示文摘With the development of modern information technology-and particularly of the new generation of artificial intelligence(AI)technology-new opportunities are available for the development of the intelligent machine tool(IMT).Based on the three classical paradigms of intelligent manufacturing as defined by the Chinese Academy of Engineering,the concept,characteristics,and systemic structure of the IMT are presented in this paper.Three stages of machine tool evolution-from the manually operated machine tool(MOMT)to the IMT-are discussed,including the numerical control machine tool(NCMT),the smart machine tool(SMT),and the IMT.Furthermore,the four intelligent control principles of the IMT-namely,autonomous sensing and connection,autonomous learning and modeling,autonomous optimization and decision-making,and autonomous control and execution-are presented in detail.This paper then points out that the essential characteristic of the IMT is to acquire and accumulate knowledge through learning,and presents original key enabling technologies,including the instruction-domain-based analytical approach,theoretical and big-data-based hybrid modeling technology,and the double-code control method.Based on this research,an intelligent numerical control(INC)system and industrial prototypes of IMTs are developed.Three intelligent practices are conducted,demonstrating that the integration of the new generation of AI technology with advanced manufacturing technology is a feasible and convenient way to advance machine tools toward the IMT.Jihong Chen Pengcheng Hu Huicheng Zhou Jianzhong Yang Jiejun Xie Yakun Jiang Zhiqiang Gao Chenglei Zhang 2019Engineering2019,5,4:12
5The Limiting Effect of Deep Soil Water on Evapotranspiration of a Subtropical Coniferous Plantation Subjected to Seasonal Drought显示文摘Seasonal drought is a common occurrence in humid climates. The year 2003 was the driest year during the period 1985– 2011 in southeastern China. The objective of this study was to elucidate the impact of the exceptional drought in 2003, compared with eddy flux measurements during 2004–11, on the dynamics of evapotranspiration(ET) and related factors, as well as their underlying mechanisms, in a subtropical coniferous plantation in southeastern China. It was found that daily ET decreased from 5.34 to 1.84 mm during the intensive drought period and recovered to 4.80 mm during the subsquent recovering drought period. Path analysis indicated that ET was mainly determined by canopy conductance and deep soil water content(50 cm) during the intensive drought and recovering drought periods, respectively. The canopy conductance offset the positive effect of air vapor pressure deficit on ET when suffering drought stress, while the canopy conductance enhanced the positive effect of air temperature on ET during the late growing season. 6DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF A EUTROPHICATION WATER QUALITY MODEL FOR RIVER NETWORKS显示文摘The Preissmann implicit scheme was used to discretize the one-dimensional Saint-Venant equations, the river-junction-river method was applied to resolve the hydrodynamic and water quality model for river networks, and the key issues on the model were expatiated particularly in this article. This water quality module was designed to compute time dependent concentrations of a series of constituents, which are primarily governed by the processes of advection, dispersion and chemical reactions. Based on the theory of Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program (WASP) water quality model, emphasis was given to the simulation of the biogeochemical transformations that determine the fate of nutrients, in particular, the simulation of the aquatic cycles of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. This model also includes procedures for the determination of growth and death of phytoplankton. This hydrodynamic and water quality model was applied to calculate two river networks. As illustrated by the numerical examples, the calculated water level and discharge agree with the measured data and the simulated trends and magnitudes of water quality constituents are generally in good agreement with field observations. 8Folate receptor-mediated boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles as potential delivery vehicles for boron neutron capture therapy of nonfunctional pituitary adenomas显示文摘Invasive nonfunctional pituitary adenomas(NFPAs) are difficult to completely resect and often develop tumor recurrence after initial surgery.Currently,no medications are clinically effective in the control of NFPA.Although radiation therapy and radiosurgery are useful to prevent tumor regrowth,they are frequently withheld because of severe complications.Boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT) is a binary radiotherapy that selectively and maximally damages tumor cells without harming the surrounding normal tissue.Folate receptor(FR)-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles is a novel boron delivery agent that can be selectively taken up by FR-expressing cells via FR-mediated endocytosis.In this study,FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles were selectively taken up by NFPAs cells expressing FR but not other types of non-FR expressing pituitary adenomas.After incubation with boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles and following irradiation with thermal neutrons,the cell viability of NFPAs was significantly decreased,while apoptotic cells were simultaneously increased.However,cells administered the same dose of FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles without neutron irradiation or received the same neutron irradiation alone did not show significant decrease in cell viability or increase in apoptotic cells.The expression of Bcl-2 was down-regulated and the expression of Bax was up-regulated in NFPAs after treatment with FR-mediated BNCT.In conclusion,FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles may be an ideal delivery system of boron to NFPAs cells for BNCT.Furthermore,our study also provides a novel insight into therapeutic strategies for invasive NFPA refractory to conventional therapy,while exploring these new applications of BNCT for tumors,especially benign tumors.DAI CongXin CAI Feng HWANG Kuo Chu ZHOU YongMao ZHANG ZiZhu LIU XiaoHai MA SiHai YANG YaKun YAO Yong FENG Ming BAO XinJie LI GuiLin WEI JunJi JIAO YongHui WEI ZhenQing MA WenBin WANG RenZhi 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,2:8
9INTRINSIC FEATURES OF TURBULENT FLOW IN STRONGLY 3-D SKEW BLADE PASSAGE OF A FRANCIS TURBINE显示文摘The turbulent flow, with the Reynolds number of 5.9× 105, in the strongly 3-D skew blade passage of a true Francis hydro turbine was simulated by the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach to investigate the spatial and temporal distributions of the fully developed turbulence in the passage with strongly 3-D complex geometry. The simulations show that the strong three-dimensionality of the passage has a great amplification effect on the turbulence in the passage, and the distributions of the turbulence are diversely nonuniform, for instance, the rise of turbulent kinetic energy in the lower 1/3 region of the passage is more than 45%, whereas its rise in the upper 1/3 region is less than 1%. With the LES approach, the details of the flow structures at the near-wall surfaces of the blades could be obtained. 10Effects of drought stress on photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence images of soybean(Glycine max)seedlings显示文摘The main purpose of this research is to provide a theoretical foundation for the screening of drought-resistant soybean varieties and to establish an efficient method to detect the PSII actual photochemical quantum yields efficiently.Three soybean varieties were compared in this experiment after 15 d when they were planted in a greenhouse.These varieties were then exposed to light drought stress(LD)and serious drought stress(SD)conditions.With five times’measurement,chlorophyll fluorescence and soil-plant analysis development considered as the main basis for this study.Several parameters in SD conditions significantly reduced,such as net photosynthetic rates(Pn),stomatal conductance(Gs),PSII primary light energy conversion efficiency(Fv/FM),PSII actual photochemical quantum yields[Y(II)],photochemical quenching coefficient(qP)and non-photochemical quenching coefficient(qN).The soybeans in the seedling stage adapted to the inhibitory effect of drought stress on photosynthesis through stomatal limitation.Under serious drought stress,non-stomatal limitation damaged the plant photosynthetic system.The amplitudes of Pn and Y(II)of drought-resistant Qihuang 35 were lower than those of the two other varieties.Based on the data of this study,a new method had been developed to detect Y(II)which reflected the photosynthetic capacity of plant,R=0.85989,u=0.048803 when using multiple linear regression,and R=0.84285,u=0.054739 when using partial least square regression.Wensen Wang Cheng Wang Dayu Pan Yakun Zhang Bin Luo Jianwei Ji 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,2:7
11STUDY ON TURBULENCE FEATURES NEAR AN OSCILLATING CURVED WALL显示文摘In pursuit of possibly true turbulent characters and for exploring a change in turbulence structures near an oscillating flexible wall-curved surface, a sinusoidal oscillation mode was forced to a curved wall, whose vibrations disturbed the flow with an interacting effort between the fluid and the structure. The methodology used was the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with fluid-structure interaction. The oscillating configuration was on a Fourier sinusoidal mode from the measurements of a Francis hydro turbine blade vibration. The effects of the vibration on the skin friction coefficient, vortices, turbulent coherent structures, and other statistical quantities were studied. The results showed that the streamwise velocity gradient along the normal direction and the normal velocity gradient along the spanwise direction were considerably increased within the viscous sublayer because of the oscillating wall, which additionally caused the low speed streaks to stay away from the wall and the high-momentum flows to be toward the wall. 12Study on the FEM design of reinforced earth retaining wall with geogrid显示文摘At present,limit equilibrium method is often adopted in the design of reinforced earth retaining wall. Geotechnical engineers home and abroad have done a lot of work to improve the traditional calculation methods in recent years,while there are lots of defects. This paper first identifies the location of failure surface and safety factor through the finite element program of PLAXIS and then analyses the influencing factors of the stability of reinforced earth retaining wall with geogrid. The authors adopt strength reduction FEM (finite element method)in the design and stability analysis of reinforced earth retaining wall and have achieved some satisfying results. Without any assumptions,the new design method can automatically judge the failure mode of reinforced earth retaining wall,consider the influence of axial tensile stiffness of the reinforcement stripe on the stability of retaining wall,identify reasonable distance and length of the reinforcement stripe,and choose suitable parameters of reinforcement stripe,including strength,stiffness and pseudo-friction coefficient which makes the design optimal. 13Microwave-hydrothermal preparation of a graphene/hierarchy structure MnO_2 composite for a supercapacitor显示文摘Graphene/hierarchy structure manganese dioxide(GN/MnO_2) composites were synthesized using a simple microwave-hydrothermal method.The properties of the prepared composites were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) measurements.The electrochemical performances of the composites were analyzed using cyclic voltammetry,electrochemical impedance spectrometry(EIS),and chronopotentiometry.The results showed that GN/MnO_2(10wt% graphene) displayed a specific capacitance of 244F/gat a current density of 100mA/g.An excellent cyclic stability was obtained with a capacity retention of approximately 94.3% after 500 cycles in a 1 mol/L Li_2SO_4 solution.The improved electrochemical performance is attributed to the hierarchy structure of the manganese dioxide,which can enlarge the interface between the active materials and the electrolyte.The preparation route provides a new approach for hierarchy structure graphene composites;this work could be readily extended to the preparation of other graphene-based composites with different structures for use in energy storage devices.Zhong Chen Jianling Li Yu Chen Yakun Zhang Guofeng Xu Jun Yang Ye Feng 2014Particuology2014,12,4:4
14Numerical investigation on critical length of impermeable plate below underwater pipeline under steady current显示文摘This study proposes a new approach in which an impermeable plate is placed under the pipeline to prevent the local scour around the pipeline.In order to understand the performance of this approach,the finite volume method(FVM) and volume of fluid(VOF) method are adopted to simulate the flow field around the pipeline.The pressure distribution along the sandy bed surface is obtained by considering the variation of water surface.Furthermore,the effects of water depth,unidirectional and bidirectional impermeable plates on pressure difference are discussed.The seepage flow field of sandy bed near underwater pipeline is numerically simulated using the laminar and porous media model.On this basis,the effect of the impermeable plate length on hydraulic gradient is investigated and the critical length of impermeable plate is obtained.The simulated results show that when the water depth is smaller than 5.00D(D is the diameter of pipeline),the effect of the water depth on the pressure difference is remarkable.The pressure differences between two endpoints of both the unidirectional and bidirectional plates decrease with the increase of the plate length.The variations of the pressure differences for both the unidirectional and bidirectional plates are similar.With the increase of plate length,the hydraulic gradient decreases and the piping at the seepage exit is avoided effectively as long as it reaches a certain length.Such a critical length of the plate decreases with the increase of the water depth.When water depth is larger than 4.00D,the effect of the water depth on the critical length is small.For the same water depth,the critical length of impermeable plate increases with the increase of the dimensionless flow parameter.Numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the available experimental measurements.ZHANG ZhiYong SHI Bing GUO YaKun YANG LiPeng 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,5:4
15The impact of high hydrostatic pressure treatment time on the structure,gelatinization and thermal properties and in vitro digestibility of oat starch显示文摘As a non-thermal processing technology,high hydrostatic pressure(HHP)can be used for starch modification without affecting the quality and flavour constituents.The effect of HHP on starch is closely related to the treatment time of HHP.In this paper,we investigated the impacts of HHP treatment time(0,5,10,15,20,25,30 min)on the microstructure,gelatinization and thermal properties as well as in vitro digestibility of oat starch by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,13C NMR and differential scanning calorimeter.Results showed that 5-min HHP treatment led to deformation and decreases in short-range ordered and doublehelix structures of oat starch granules,and further extending the treatment time to 15 min or above caused the formation of a gelatinous connection zone,increase of particle size,disintegration of short-range ordered and double-helix structures,and crystal structure change from A type to V type,indicating gelatinization occurred.Longer treatment time also resulted in the reduction in both the viscosity and the stability of oat starch.These indicated that HHP treatment time greatly influenced the microstructure of oat starch,and the oat starch experienced crystalline destruction(5 min),crystalline disintegration(15 min)and gelatinization(>15 min)during HHP treatment.Results of in vitro digestibility showed that the rapidly digestible starch(RDS)content declined first after treatment for 5 to 10 min then rose with the time extending from 15 to 30 min,indicating that longer pressure treatment time was unfavourable to the health benefits of oat starch for humans with diabetes and cardiovascular disease.Therefore,the 500-MPa treatment time for oat starch is recommended not more than 15 min.This study provides theoretical guidance for the application of HHP technology in starch modification and development of health foods.Jing Zhang Meili Zhang Xue Bai Yakun Zhang Chen Wang 2022Grain & Oil Science and Technology2022,5,1:4

17Sampling Designs for Validating Digital Soil Maps: A Review显示文摘Sampling design(SD) plays a crucial role in providing reliable input for digital soil mapping(DSM) and increasing its efficiency.Sampling design, with a predetermined sample size and consideration of budget and spatial variability, is a selection procedure for identifying a set of sample locations spread over a geographical space or with a good feature space coverage. A good feature space coverage ensures accurate estimation of regression parameters, while spatial coverage contributes to effective spatial interpolation.First, we review several statistical and geometric SDs that mainly optimize the sampling pattern in a geographical space and illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of these SDs by considering spatial coverage, simplicity, accuracy, and efficiency. Furthermore, Latin hypercube sampling, which obtains a full representation of multivariate distribution in geographical space, is described in detail for its development, improvement, and application. In addition, we discuss the fuzzy k-means sampling, response surface sampling, and Kennard-Stone sampling, which optimize sampling patterns in a feature space. We then discuss some practical applications that are mainly addressed by the conditioned Latin hypercube sampling with the flexibility and feasibility of adding multiple optimization criteria. We also discuss different methods of validation, an important stage of DSM, and conclude that an independent dataset selected from the probability sampling is superior for its free model assumptions.
