1Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 Clade 2.3.2.1c virus in migratory birds,2014–2015显示文摘A novel Clade 2.3.2.1c H5N1 reassortant virus caused several outbreaks in wild birds in some regions of China from late 2014 to 2015.Based on the genetic and phylogenetic analyses,the viruses possess a stable gene constellation with a Clade 2.3.2.1c HA,a H9N2-derived PB2 gene and the other six genes of Asian H5N1-origin.The Clade 2.3.2.1c H5N1 reassortants displayed a high genetic relationship to a human H5N1 strain(A/Alberta/01/2014).Further analysis showed that similar viruses have been circulating in wild birds in China,Russia,Dubai(Western Asia),Bulgaria and Romania(Europe),as well as domestic poultry in some regions of Africa.The affected areas include the Central Asian,East Asian-Australasian,West Asian-East African,and Black Sea/Mediterranean flyways.These results show that the novel Clade 2.3.2.1c reassortant viruses are circulating worldwide and may have gained a selective advantage in migratory birds,thus posing a serious threat to wild birds and potentially humans.Yuhai Bi Jianjun Chen Zhenjie Zhang Mingxin Li Tianlong Cai Kirill Sharshov Ivan Susloparov Alexander Shestopalov Gary Wong Yubang He Zhi Xing Jianqing Sun Di Liu Yingxia Liu Lei Liu Wenjun Liu Fumin Lei Weifeng Shi George F. 2A recombinant receptor-binding domain in trimeric form generates protective immunity against SARSCoV-2 infection in nonhuman primates显示文摘A safe and effective vaccine is critical to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.Here,we developed a trimeric SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain(RBD)subunit vaccine candidate that simulates the natural structure of the spike(S)trimer glycoprotein.Immunization with the RBD trimer-induced robust humoral and cellular immune responses,and a high level of neutralizing antibodies was maintained for at least 4.5 months.Moreover,the antibodies that were produced in response to the vaccine effectively cross-neutralized the SARS-CoV-2501Y.V2 variant(B.1.351).Of note,when the vaccine-induced antibodies dropped to a sufficiently low level,only one boost quickly activated the anamnestic immune response,conferring full protection against a SARSCoV-2 challenge in rhesus macaques without typical histopathological changes in the lung tissues.These results demonstrated that the SARS-CoV-2 RBD trimer vaccine candidate is highly immunogenic and safe,providing long-lasting,broad,and significant immunity protection in nonhuman primates,thereby offering an optimal vaccination strategy against COVID-19.Limin Yang Deyu Tian Jian-bao Han Wenhui Fan Yuan Zhang Yunlong Li Wenqiang Sun Yanqiu Wei Xiaodong Tian Dan-dan Yu Xiao-li Feng Gong Cheng Yuhai Bi Yong-tang Zheng Wenjun Liu 2021The Innovation2021,2,3:3
3A stretchable triboelectric generator with coplanar integration design of energy harvesting and strain sensing显示文摘The rapid development of flexible triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs)has become an alternative to batteries for wearable devices.Stretchable,multifunctional,and low-cost are the primary development directions for these wearable devices based on TENG.Herein,a stretchable triboelectric generator with coplanar integration was designed for energy harvesting and force sensing.The industrial conductive silicone and silicone were used to fabricate the TENG with a thickness of less than 0.9 mm.When the elongation was less than 150%,TENG exhibited excellent linear characteristics in the resistance-tensile strain correspondence,and the coefficient of determination was 0.99.This stretchable TENG with a sufficient contact area of 9 cm^(2) could generate a short-circuit current of 2μA when it was in contact with the skin.Lastly,an intelligent tension monitoring wearable device that can effectively measure the tensile force was developed.Such a stretchable,coplanar integration-based,and low-cost wearable device has excellent applicability in wearable electronics.WU Bin ZHANG ZengXing XUE XiaoBin HAO CongCong ZHANG WenJun BI RuiYu WANG Qiang XUE ChenYang 2022Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,1:3
4The self-assembled nanoparticle-based trimeric RBD mRNA vaccine elicits robust and durable protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in mice显示文摘As COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly worldwide and variants continue to emerge,the development and deployment of safe and effective vaccines are urgently needed.Here,we developed an mRNA vaccine based on the trimeric receptor-binding domain(RBD)of the SARS-CoV-2 spike(S)protein fused to ferritin-formed nanoparticles(TF-RBD).Compared to the trimeric form of the RBD mRNA vaccine(T-RBD),TF-RBD delivered intramuscularly elicited robust and durable humoral immunity as well as a Th 1-biased cellular response.After further challenge with live SARS-CoV-2,immunization with a two-shot low-dose regimen of TF-RBD provided adequate protection in hACE2-transduced mice.In addition,the mRNA template of TF-RBD was easily and quickly engineered into a variant vaccine to address SARS-CoV-2 mutations.The TF-RBD multivalent vaccine produced broad-spectrum neutralizing antibodies against Alpha(B.1.1.7)and Beta(B.1.351)variants.This mRNA vaccine based on the encoded self-assembled nanoparticle-based trimer RBD provides a referenee for the design of mRNA vaccines targeting SARS-CoV-2.Wenqiang Sun Lihong He He Zhang Xiaodong Tian Zhihua Bai Lei Sun Limin Yang Xiaojuan Jia Yuhai Bi Tingrong Luo Gong Cheng Wenhui Fan Wenjun Liu Jing Li 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,10:3
5Investigation of PM_(2.5) pollution during COVID-19 pandemic in Guangzhou,China显示文摘The COVID-19 pandemic has raised awareness about various environmental issues,includ-ing PM_(2.5) pollution.Here,PM_(2.5) pollution during the COVID-19 lockdown was traced and an-alyzed to clarify the sources and factors influencing PM_(2.5) in Guangzhou,with an emphasis on heavy pollution.The lockdown led to large reductions in industrial and traffic emissions,which significantly reduced PM_(2.5) concentrations in Guangzhou.Interestingly,the trend of PM_(2.5) concentrations was not consistent with traffic and industrial emissions,as minimum concentrations were observed in the fourth period(3/01-3/31,22.45 μg/m^(3))of the lockdown.However,the concentrations of other gaseous pollutants,e.g.,SO_(2),NO_(2) and CO,were corre-lated with industrial and traffic emissions,and the lowest values were noticed in the sec-ond period(1/24-2/0_(3))of the lockdown.Meteorological correlation analysis revealed that the decreased PM_(2.5) concentrations during COVID-19 can be mainly attributed to decreased in-dustrial and traffic emissions rather than meteorological conditions.When meteorological factors were included in the PM_(2.5) composition and backward trajectory analyses,we found that long-distance transportation and secondary pollution offset the reduction of primary emissions in the second and third stages of the pandemic.Notably,industrial PM_(2.5) emis-sions from western,southern and southeastern Guangzhou play an important role in the formation of heavy pollution events.Our results not only verify the importance of control-ling traffic and industrial emissions,but also provide targets for further improvements in PM_(2.5) pollution.Luyao Wen Chun Yang Xiaoliang Liao Yanhao Zhang Xuyang Chai Wenjun Gao Shulin Guo Yinglei Bi Suk-Ying Tsang Zhi-Feng Chen Zenghua Qi Zongwei Cai 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,5:2

7Coil-levitated hybrid generator for mechanical energy harvesting and wireless temperature and vibration monitoring显示文摘The development of wireless monitoring is currently restricted by the short lifetime of batteries,requiring frequent replacement.Utilization of abundant mechanical energy from the surrounding environment has attracted increasing attention in real-time monitoring.Herein,a coil-levitated hybrid generator was developed for the efficient harvesting of mechanical energy from mechanical motion.The novel coil-levitated structure adapted to the metal and magnetic environment.The output currents were systematically analyzed at different operation modes based on the unique combination of triboelectrification,electromagnetic induction,and piezoelectric effect.Under the excitation of vibration frequency and amplitude of 8 Hz and 5 mm respectively,the as-constructed triboelectric nanogenerator delivered a peak power density of 11.40 W/m3 at 10 MΩ.Meanwhile,the middle electromagnetic part and bottom piezoelectric generator provided peak power densities of 6.97 and 79.93 W/m2 at 10000Ω,respectively.More importantly,the battery charging experiment was verified,in which a 30 mA h Li-ion battery can be charged from 2.57 to 3.27 V in about 90 min.In sum,a self-powered temperature and vibration monitoring system was successfully developed based on hybrid generator,promising for realizing wireless monitoring of mechanical equipment without any external power supply.XUE XiaoBin ZHANG ZengXing WU Bin HE ShanShan WANG Qiang ZHANG WenJun BI RuiYu CUI Juan ZHENG YongQiu XUE ChenYang 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,6:2

11Anti-infection effects of heparin on SARS-CoV-2 in a diabetic mouse model显示文摘Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARSCo V-2)infection can result in more severe syndromes and poorer outcomes in patients with diabetes and obesity.However,the precise mechanisms responsible for the combined impact of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and diabetes have not yet been elucidated,and effective treatment options for SARS-Co V-2-infected diabetic patients remain limited.To investigate the disease pathogenesis,K18-h ACE2 transgenic(h ACE2^(Tg))mice with a leptin receptor deficiency(h ACE2-Lepr^(-/-))and high-fat diet(h ACE2-HFD)background were generated.The two mouse models were intranasally infected with a 5×10^(5) median tissue culture infectious dose(TCID_(50))of SARSCo V-2,with serum and lung tissue samples collected at 3days post-infection.The h ACE2-Lepr^(-/-)mice were then administered a combination of low-molecular-weight heparin(LMWH)(1 mg/kg or 5 mg/kg)and insulin via subcutaneous injection prior to intranasal infection with1×10^(4) TCID_(50)of SARS-Co V-2.Daily drug administration continued until the euthanasia of the mice.Analyses of viral RNA loads,histopathological changes in lung tissue,and inflammation factors were conducted.Results demonstrated similar SARS-Co V-2 susceptibility in h ACE2^(Tg)mice under both lean(chow diet)and obese(HFD)conditions.However,compared to the h ACE2-Lepr^(+/+)mice,h ACE2-Lepr^(-/-)mice exhibited more severe lung injury,enhanced expression of inflammatory cytokines and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α),and increased apoptosis.Moreover,combined LMWH and insulin treatment effectively reduced disease progression and severity,attenuated lung pathological changes,and mitigated inflammatory responses.In conclusion,preexisting diabetes can lead to more severe lung damage upon SARS-Co V-2 infection,and LMWH may be a valuable therapeutic approach for managing COVID-19patients with diabetes.Zhongyun Zhang Ning Zhang Xuancheng Lu Min Zhou Xiaoxiang Yan Weiqiong Gu Jingru Yang Qin Zhang Cheng Zhang Yuhuan Gong Mingjun Jia Xiaoyu Zhang Peng Ning Mei Liu Xiaoyan Li Xiaomeng Shi Wenjun Liu George FGao Guang Ning Jiqiu Wang Yuhai Bi 2023Zoological Research2023,44,6:1

13Energy-optimal trajectory planning for solar-powered aircraft using soft actor-critic显示文摘High-Altitude Long-Endurance(HALE)solar-powered Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles(UAVs)can utilize solar energy as power source and maintain extremely long cruise endurance,which has attracted extensive attentions from researchers.Trajectory optimization is a promising way to achieve superior flight time because of the finite solar energy absorbed in a day.In this work,a method of trajectory optimization and guidance for HALE solar-powered aircraft based on a Reinforcement Learning(RL)framework is introduced.According to flight and environment information,a neural network controller outputs commands of thrust,attack angle,and bank angle to realize an autonomous flight based on energy maximization.The validity of the proposed method was evaluated in a 5-km radius area in simulation,and results have shown that after one day-night cycle,the battery energy of the RL-controller was improved by 31%and 17%compared with those of a Steady-State(SS)strategy with a constant speed and a constant altitude and a kind of statemachine strategy,respectively.In addition,results of an uninterrupted flight test have shown that the endurance of the RL controller was longer than those of the control cases.Wenjun NI Ying BI Di WU Xiaoping MA 2022Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2022,35,10:1

18Relatively rapid evolution rates of SARS-CoV-2 spike gene at the primary stage of massive vaccination显示文摘A series of stringent non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions were implemented to contain the pandemic but the pandemic continues.Moreover,vaccination breakthrough infection and reinfection in convalescent coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases have been reported.Further,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)variants emerged with mutations in spike(S)gene,the target of most current vaccines.Importantly,the mutations exhibit a trend of immune escape from the vaccination.Herein the scientific question that if the vaccination drives genetic or antigenic drifts of SARS-CoV-2 remains elusive.We performed correlation analyses to uncover the impacts of wide vaccination on epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19.In addition,we investigated the evolutionary dynamics and genetic diversity of SARS-CoV-2 under immune pressure by utilizing the Bayesian phylodynamic inferences and the lineage entropy calculation respectively.We found that vaccination coverage was negatively related to the infections,severe cases,and deaths of COVID-19 respectively.With the increasing vaccination coverage,the lineage diversity of SARS-CoV-2 dampened,but the rapid mutation rates of the S gene were identified,and the vaccination could be one of the explanations for driving mutations in S gene.Moreover,new epidemics resurged in several countries with high vaccination coverage,questioning their current pandemic control strategies.Hence,integrated vaccination and non-pharmacological interventions are critical to control the pandemic.Furthermore,novel vaccine preparation should enhance its capabilities to curb both disease severity and infection possibility.Jing Yang Min Han Liang Wang Likui Wang Tianrui Xu Linhuan Wu Juncai Ma Gary Wong Wenjun Liu George F.Gao Yuhai Bi 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,4:0
19Effect of different drying methods on the amino acids,α-dicarbonyls and volatile compounds of rape bee pollen显示文摘The significant demand for high quality food has motivated us to adopt appropriate processing methods to improve the food nutritional quality and flavors.In this study,the effects of five drying methods,namely,pulsed vacuum drying(PVD),freeze drying(FD),infrared drying(IRD),hot-air drying(HAD)and sun drying(SD)on free amino acids(FAAs),α-dicarbonyl compounds(α-DCs)and volatile compounds(VOCs)in rape bee pollen(RBP)were determined.The results showed that FD significantly released the essential amino acids(EAAs)compared with fresh samples while SD caused the highest loss.Glucosone was the dominantα-DCs in RBP and the highest loss was observed after PVD.Aldehydes were the dominant volatiles of RBP and SD samples contained more new volatile substances(especially aldehydes)than the other four drying methods.Comprehensively,FD and PVD would be potential methods to effectively reduce the quality deterioration of RBP in the drying process.Yanxiang Bi Jiabao Ni Xiaofeng Xue Zidan Zhou Wenli Tian Valérie Orsat Sha Yan Wenjun Peng Xiaoming Fang 2024Food Science and Human Wellness2024,13,1:0
20Avian influenza virus ecology in wild birds of Western Siberia显示文摘Background:The aim of the study was to explore the ecological diversity of wild birds in Siberia, which are the natural reservoir of avian influenza virus(AIV).Methods:Cloacal swabs and intestinal fragments were collected from wild migratory birds from 2007-2014. Isolated viruses were grown in the allantoic cavity of embryonated chicken eggs. The presence of virus was determined using hemagglutination assays. Primary identification and subtyping of influenza viruses was confirmed by RT-PCR.Results:A total of 2300 samples obtained from wild migratory birds of 8 orders were collected and tested. Influenza was detected in 185 birds of 3 orders. Species of family Anatidae(order Anseriformes) such as European Teal(Anas crecca), Garganey Teal(A. querquedula), and Shoveler(A. clypeata) play the main role in AIV circulation in the south of Western Siberia. The proportion of viral carriers among waterfowl ranged from 5.6 to 20% in 2007-2014. The order Charadriiformes had lower virus isolation rates of not more than 1.4%.Conclusions:Wild migratory waterfowl of orders Anseriformes and Charadriiformes are the main reservoir of AIV in the south of Western Siberia.
