| 1 | Optimization of phenol degradation by Candida tropicalis Z-04 using Plackett-Burman design and response surface methodology显示文摘Statistical experimental designs were used to optimize the process of phenol degradation by Candida tropicalis Z-04,isolated from phenol-degrading aerobic granules.The most important factors influencing phenol degradation (p<0.05),as identified by a two-level Plackett-Burman design with 11 variables,were yeast extract,phenol,inoculum size,and temperature.Steepest ascent method was undertaken to determine the optimal regions of these four significant factors.Central composite design (CCD) and response surface analysis were adopted to further investigate the mutual interactions between these variables and to identify their optimal values that would generate maximum phenol degradation.The analysis results indicated that interactions between yeast extract and temperature,phenol and temperature,inoculum size and temperature affected the response variable (phenol degradation) significantly.The predicted results showed that the maximum removal efficiency of phenol (99.10%) could be obtained under the optimum conditions of yeast extract 0.41 g/L,phenol 1.03 g/L,inoculum size 1.43% (V/V) and temperature 30.04°C.These predicted values were further verified by validation experiments.The excellent correlation between predicted and experimental values confirmed the validity and practicability of this statistical optimum strategy.This study indicated the excellent ability of C.tropicalis Z-04 in degrading high-strength phenol.Optimal conditions obtained in this experiment laid a solid foundation for further use of this microorganism in the treatment of highstrength phenol effluents. | Jiangya Zhou Xiaojuan Yu Cong Ding Zhiping Wang Qianqian Zhou Hao Pao Weimin Ca | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1: | 48 |

| 3 | Lowering the energy consumption in silicon photonic devices and systems [Invited]显示文摘We review current silicon photonic devices and their performance in connection with energy consumption.Four critical issues are identified to lower energy consumption in devices and systems: reducing the influence of the thermo-optic effect, increasing the wall-plug efficiency of lasers on silicon, optimizing energy performance of modulators, and enhancing the sensitivity of photodetectors. Major conclusions are(1) Mach–Zehnder interferometer-based devices can achieve athermal performance without any extra energy consumption while microrings do not have an efficient passive athermal solution;(2) while direct bonded III–V-based Si lasers can meet system power requirement for now, hetero-epitaxial grown III–V quantum dot lasers are competitive and may be a better option for the future;(3) resonant modulators, especially coupling modulators, are promising for low-energy consumption operation even when the power to stabilize their operation is included;(4) benefiting from high sensitivity and low cost, Ge/Si avalanche photodiode is the most promising photodetector and can be used to effectively reduce the optical link power budget. The various average degrees of branching can be designed by suitable values of reactivities ratio (r) and the conversion of A group (x). In order to reach the maximum degree of branching at a specified x, r needed is dependant on the value of x. The higher the x, the less the r needed is for the maximum value of degree of branching. | 10 | Effects of Rice-Fish Co-culture on Oxygen Consumption in Intensive Aquaculture Pond显示文摘Rice-fish co-culture has gained increasing attention to remediate the negative environmental impacts induced by intensive aquaculture. However, the effect of rice-fish co-culture on oxygen depletion has rarely been investigated. We constructed a rice-fish co-culture system in yellow catfish(Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) and freshwater shrimp(Macrobrachium nipponense) ponds using a new high-stalk rice variety, and conducted a field experiment to investigate the effect of rice-fish co-culture on water parameters and oxygen consumption. The results showed that rice-fish co-culture reduced the nutrients(total nitrogen, ammonia-N, total phosphorous and potassium) and the dissolved oxygen content in fish and shrimp ponds. However, they showed similar seasonal change of dissolved oxygen in the water of fish and shrimp ponds. Rice-fish co-culture reduced the total amount of oxygen consumption and optimized the oxygen consumption structure in pond. The respiration rates in water and sediment were significantly reduced by 66.1% and 31.7% in the catfish pond, and 64.4% and 38.7% in the shrimp pond, respectively, by additional rice cultivation. Rice-fish co-culture decreased the proportions of respiration in sediment and water, and increased the proportion of fish respiration. | 12 | Development characteristics of the fault system and its control on basin structure, Bodong Sag, East China显示文摘The Bodong Sag,located in the Bohai Sea,offshore China,is one of the most petroliferous basins in China.Based on three dimensional seismic reflection data and time slice data,we analyze the fault system of the Bodong area in detail,establish the fault structure pattern of different types and summarize the distribution of the fault system.It is concluded that the development characteristics of the Cenozoic fault system are in accordance with the dextral stress field of the Tanlu Fault,which displayed a brush structure with NNE strike-slip faults as its principal faults,NE-trending extensional faults as secondary faults and EW-trending faults as minor faults.Faults can be divided into (1) strike-slip type,(2) extensional type,(3) strike-slip extensional type and (4) extensional strike-slip type.The spatial structures of different faults have obvious differences because of the fault properties and activity intensity.The fault system at different stages shows tremendous differences because of the transition of the Tanlu Fault from sinistral strike-slip to dextral strike-slip,the transition between extension and strike-slip,and the transition from mantle upwelling to thermal subsidence.According to the controlling effect of faults on basin structure,the Cenozoic basin experienced four evolutionary stages,(a) transition stage from sinistral strike-slip to dextral strike-slip,(b) strike-slip extensional faulted stage,(c) extensional strike-slip faulted stage and (d) strike-slip depression stage.The identification of temporal and spatial differences of faults could be used as a significant guideline for oil and gas exploration in the Bodong area. | Wu Zhiping Cheng Yanjun Yan Shiyong Su Wen Wang Xin Xu Changgui Zhou Xinhuai | 2013 | Petroleum Science2013,10,4: | 4 |
| 13 | Skeletochronological Study of Age,Longevity and Growth in a Population of Rana nigromaculata(Amphibia:Anura) in Sichuan,China显示文摘A skeletochronological study was conducted for the age, longevity and growth of a Rana nigromaculata population in northeastern Sichuan, China. Of 139 specimens, 119(68 males and 51 females) exhibited distinct arrested growth lines in phalanges. Age at first reproduction was found to be two years of age for males and three for females. Maximum longevity was estimated to be at least six years in males and seven years in females. Average age did not differ between males and females. Breeding females were significantly older than breeding males. Females were larger in body size and heavier in body mass than males. Age was not correlated with body size and body mass in males, but a significant correlation was found among age, body size and body mass in females. The growth curve appeared significantly different between the sexes, with a higher growth rate throughout life and a larger asymptotic size in females. | 15 | Exceptional co-catalyst free photocatalytic activities of B and Fe co-doped SrTiO3 for CO2 conversion and H2 evolution显示文摘CO2 should be converted into chemical-fuels,and to reduce H2O to H2 over SrTiO3 (STO) owing to its negative conduction band position vs.NHE.Herein a novel B and Fe co-doped SrTiO3 (B,F-STO) photocatalyst was successfully fabricated via a single-step sol-hydrothermal process.Various experiments confirmed that B and Fe are effectively doped into the STO matrix.Boron substituted oxygen anions,while Fe substituted Ti cations.UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS) and valence-band X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra confirmed that the band gap of STO significantly reduced from 3.4 to 1.9 eV upon co-doping with B and Fe.Hence,the B,F-STO photocatalyst exhibits more absorption (λ ≤ 650 nm) compared to pure STO (λ ≤ 360 nm).Further,from photoluminescence spectra,fluorescence spectra,and photoelectrochemical measurements,charge separation in STO is considerably enhanced by co-doping B and Fe.This resulted in the improved UV-vis light catalytic activities for CO2 conversion to CH4 and CO and H2O splitting to evolve H2.The amounts of CH4 and CO produced over B,F-STO are ~ 17.2 and 21 μmol,respectively,about 5-fold enhanced compared to that of STO (~ 3.4 μmol CH4 and 5.2 μmol CO),and the calculated quantum efficiency at λ =420 run is ~ 2.16%.Similarly,the amount of H2 produced over B,F-STO is ~ 61 μmol,about 6.7-fold enhanced compared to that over STO (9 μmol),and the calculated quantum efficiency at λ =420 nm is ~ 2.12%.This work provides feasible routes to fabricate highly efficient SrTiO3-based nanophotocatalysts for solar-fuel production. | Muhammad Humayun Lei Xu Ling Zhou Zhiping Zheng Qiuyun Fu Wei Luo | 2018 | Nano Research2018,11,12: | 3 |

| 18 | On-chip light sources for silicon photonics显示文摘Serving as the electrical to optical converter,the on-chip silicon light source is an indispensable component of silicon photonic technologies and has long been pursued.Here,we briefly review the history and recent progress of a few promising contenders for on-chip light sources in terms of operating wavelength,pump condition,power consumption,and fabrication process.Additionally,the performance of each contender is also assessed with respect to thermal stability,which is a crucial parameter to consider in complex optoelectronic integrated circuits(OEICs)and optical interconnections.Currently,III-V-based silicon(Si)lasers formed via bonding techniques demonstrate the best performance and display the best opportunity for commercial usage in the near future.However,in the long term,direct hetero-epitaxial growth of III–V materials on Si seems more promising for low-cost,high-yield fabrication.The demonstration of high-performance quantum dot(QD)lasers monolithically grown on Si strongly forecasts its feasibility and enormous potential for on-chip lasers.The superior temperature-insensitive characteristics of the QD laser promote this design in large-scale high-density OEICs.The Germanium(Ge)-on-Si laser is also competitive for large-scale monolithic integration in the future.Compared with a III-V-based Si laser,the biggest potential advantage of a Ge-on-Si laser lies in its material and processing compatibility with Si technology.Additionally,the versatility of Ge facilitates photon emission,modulation,and detection simultaneously with a simple process complexity and low cost. | Zhiping Zhou Bing Yin Jurgen Michel | 2015 | Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1: | 3 |

| 20 | Innovation on Distant Hybridization of Saline-tolerant Mud Flat Spartina and Rice Germplasm显示文摘To explore saline-tolerant high yield Spartina and rice germplasm resources,innovate upon distant hybridization technology,and develop new saline-tolerant mud flat Spartina germplasm,autonomous patent for invention was used to study distant hybridization of Spartina and rice in 2005- 2016. The study adopted tidal flat planting screening,phenotypic screening,molecular marker assisted selection,to find biological evidences of new germplasm,and also applied crossbreeding,conventional breeding,and molecular breeding,to select new saline-tolerant Spartina and rice varieties. With 12 years of efforts,the team developed 1498 crossbreeding combinations and established pedigree file and seed bank,tested 307 crossbreeding materials(57 hybrid seeds showed parental genetic components of Spartina and Rice); obtained Spartina/ Rice distant hybridization and seed setting,transplanting,hybridization material economic traits,and molecular biological experimental evidences; Rice♀× Spartina ♂ hybridization success rate of 1. 04- 1. 39%; obtained authorization of patent for invention of Distant Hybridization Methods for Spartina and Rice; formulated procedures for high yield cultivation of Spartina-Rice,planted 33. 33 hm2Spartina-Rice in coastal saline and alkaline land,cultivated 10 new saline-tolerant Spartina-Rice varieties,and the rice yield up to 5. 925- 8. 28 t / hm2. Results indicate that Spartina-Rice is saline-tolerant high yield rice germplasm,developed through sexual hybridization,conventional breeding,and molecular breeding technologies,and is optimal crop for saline and alkaline land. Success of Spartina-Rice solves the problem of saline-tolerant crop badly for transformation of saline and alkaline land,the problem of feeds for herbivores,as well as problem of environmental pollution resulted from straw burning.
