| 1 | Maize grain concentrations and above-ground shoot acquisition of micronutrients as affected by intercropping with turnip, faba bean, chickpea, and soybean显示文摘Most research on micronutrients in maize has focused on maize grown as a monocrop. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intercropping on the concentrations of micronutrients in maize grain and their acquisition via the shoot. We conducted field experiments to investigate the effects of intercropping with turnip (Brassica campestris L.), faba bean (Vicia faba L.), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), and soybean (Glycine max L.) on the iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in the grain and their acquisition via the above-ground shoots of maize (Zea mays L.). Compared with monocropped maize grain, the grain of maize intercropped with legumes showed lower concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn and lower values of their corresponding harvest indexes. The micronutrient concentrations and harvest indexes in grain of maize intercropped with turnip were the same as those in monocropped maize grain. Intercropping stimulated the above-ground maize shoot acquisition of Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn, when averaged over different phosphorus (P) application rates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the effects of intercropping on micronutrient concentrations in maize grain and on micronutrients acquisition via maize shoots (straw+grain). The maize grain Fe and Cu concentrations, but not Mn and Zn concentrations, were negatively correlated with maize grain yields. The concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in maize grain were positively correlated with their corresponding harvest indexes. The decreased Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn concentrations in grain of maize intercropped with legumes were attributed to reduced translocation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn from vegetative tissues to grains. This may also be related to the delayed senescence of maize plants intercropped with legumes. We conclude that turnip/maize intercropping is beneficial to obtain high maize grain yield without decreased concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in the grain. | 2 | Estrogen and insulin synergistically promote endometrial cancer progression via crosstalk between their receptor signaling pathways显示文摘Objective: Despite evidence that estrogens and insulin are involved in the development and progression of many cancers, their synergistic role in endometrial carcinoma(EC) has not been analyzed yet.Methods: Here, we investigated how estrogens act synergistically with insulin to promote EC progression. Cell growth in vitro and in vivo, effects of estradiol and insulin on apoptosis and cell cycle distribution, and expression and activation of estrogen receptor(ER), insulin receptor(InsR), and key proteins in the PI3K and MAPK pathways were examined after combined stimulation with estradiol and insulin.Results: Compared to EC cells treated with estradiol or insulin alone, those treated with both estradiol and insulin exhibited stronger stimulation. Estradiol significantly induced phosphorylation of InsR-β and IRS-1, whereas insulin significantly induced phosphorylation of ER-α. In addition, treatment with both insulin and estradiol together significantly increased the expression and phosphorylation of Akt, MAPK, and ERK. Notably, InsR-β inhibition had a limited effect on estradiol-dependent proliferation,cell cycle, and apoptosis, whereas ER-α inhibition had a limited insulin-dependent effect, in EC cell lines. | 3 | Biochar Combined with Vermicompost Increases Crop Production While Reducing Ammonia and Nitrous Oxide Emissions from a Paddy Soil显示文摘Organic amendments such as vermicompost and biochar have been reported to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity.However, whether the co-application of both amendments has synergistic effects or whether such benefits are accompanied by the risk of gaseous nitrogen(N) loss in an agroecosystem remains unknown. A soil column experiment with a fully factorial design was conducted using three levels of vermicompost(no dose, low dose(1%, weight:weight), and high dose(3%, weight:weight)) without or with biochar(1%, weight:weight) to investigate their effects on rice growth and gaseous N loss across the crop growing season. Our results demonstrated that synergistic interactions existed between vermicompost and biochar in promoting crop yield. Compared with biochar amendment alone, biochar combined with vermicompost significantly(P < 0.01) increased rice yield by 26.5%–35.3%. However,high dose of vermicompost significantly(P < 0.01) increased the cumulative ammonia(NH_3) and nitrous oxide(N_2O) emissions. In the presence of vermicompost, the incorporation of biochar amendment significantly(P < 0.01) decreased the cumulative N_2O emission by 14.1%–18.6%. The lowest emission factor value of NH_3 and N_2O was achieved using biochar in combination with low dose of vermicompost. | 6 | Expression of P-gp and miRNA-21 in Colorectal Cancer Tissues and the Clinical Significance显示文摘[Objectives]To study the expression of P-gp and miRNA-21 in colorectal cancer tissues and the relationship between the expression of P-gp and clinicopathological features,and to analyze the correlation between the expression of miRNA-21 and P-gp.[Methods]Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression level of P-gp in the tissues of 40 cases of colorectal cancer and the normal mucosal tissues 5 cm away from the corresponding cancer tissues,and the expression level of miRNA-21 in the paraffin tissues of the 40 cases was detected by RT-qPCR.[Results]The positive expression of P-gp was localized in the cell membrane,and the expression in colorectal cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in the corresponding adjacent tissues(P<0.05);the positive expression of P-gp was closely related to the degree of tumor differentiation and the depth of invasion(P<0.05),and the comparison results of P-gp expression in the differentiation groups of different cancer tissues showed that the expression level of P-gp in the moderately and poorly differentiated groups was significantly higher than that in the highly differentiated group(P<0.05),and the expression level of the moderately and poorly differentiated groups was similar(P>0.05).The expression of miRNA-21 in all cancer tissues was higher than that in the corresponding adjacent tissues(P<0.05),and the expression levels of miRNA-21 in differentiation groups of different cancer tissues were 1.286,1.445 and 1.992 times of those in the corresponding adjacent tissues,respectively;the comparison results of miRNA-21 between different differentiation groups showed that the expression level of miRNA-21 in the poorly differentiated group was significantly higher than that in the highly differentiated group and the moderately differentiated group(P<0.05),while the expression level of miRNA-21 in the highly differentiated group and the moderately differentiated group was similar(P>0.05).Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation on the expression between the two in colorectal cancer tissues(r=0.423,P<0.05).[Conclusions]The expression levels of miRNA-21 and P-gp are closely related to the differentiation degree of clinical colorectal cancer,the lower the differentiation degree,the higher the expression level of the two. | Xiaoli YAN Peng YAN Yanfang FAN Jing XUE Mingjuan WANG Jining ZHENG | 2020 | Medicinal Plant2020,11,6: | 1 |

| 13 | Efficient photocatalysis of tetracycline hydrochloride(TC-HCl) from pharmaceutical wastewater using AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4) composite under visible light: Process and mechanisms显示文摘AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4), a visible light activated ternary composite catalyst, was prepared by combining calcination, hydrothermal reaction and in-situ deposition processes to treat/photocatalyse tetracycline hydrochloride(TC-HCl) from pharmaceutical wastewater under visible light. The morphological, structural, electrical, and optical features of the novel photocatalyst were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), UV-visible light absorption spectrum(UV–Vis DRS), X-ray diffractometer(XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and transient photocurrent techniques. All analyses confirmed that the formation of heterojunctions between AgCl/ZnO and g-C_(3)N_(4)significantly increase electron-hole transfer and separation compared to pure ZnO and g-C_(3)N_(4). Thus, AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)could exhibit superior photocatalytic activity during TC-HCl assays(over 90% removal) under visible light irradiation. The composite could maintain its photocatalytic stability even after four consecutive reaction cycles. Hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)) and superoxide radical(·O_(2)) contributed more than holes(h+) and hydroxyl radicals(·OH) to the degradation process as showed by trapping experiments. Liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer(LC-MS) was used for the representation of the TC-HCl potential degradation pathway. The applicability and the treatment potential of AgCl/ZnO/gC_(3)N_(4)against actual pharmaceutical wastewater showed that the composite can achieve removal efficiencies of 81.7%, 71.4% and 69.0% for TC-HCl, chemical oxygen demand(COD) and total organic carbon(TOC) respectively. [Method] Plantlets of P. ternata were used as experimental materials. Total RNA concentration was determined with spectrophotometer, and the variation of total RNA was analyzed before and after formation of P. ternata microtubers treated with different concentrations of sucrose using DDRT-PCR technology. [Result] Total RNA concentration of P. ternata treated with different concentrations of sucrose varied greatly, which showed an upward trend in the first 15 d, declined from 15th d to 25th d, and slightly raised from 25th d to 30th d. Microtubers formed under various sucrose treatments showed an increase in RNA concentration after induction, and it was assumed that the treatment of high concentrations of sucrose might have activated the expression of development-related genes in P. ternata microtubers. | 19 | Unraveling natural aging-induced properties change of sludge-derived hydrochar and enhanced cadmium sorption site heterogeneity显示文摘Hydrochar has potential applications in soil improvement and heavy metal remediation.Hydrochar would undergo the process of aging when introduced into the soil,altering its properties.However,recent studies have focused mainly on the artificial aging of hydrochar,which could not reveal the cumulative effect of multiple environmental factors.Therefore,the periodical monitoring of the property and sorption behavior of hydrochar after amending soils is necessary to better understand the multifaceted mechanisms associated with the natural aging of hydrochar.This study selected the sludge-derived hydrochar(SLHC)as a typical hydrochar and applied a 16-month rice-wheat-rice rotation to mimic the natural aging of hydrochar,focusing on changing properties and cadmium(Cd)sorption and literature contrast between aging strategies and biochar types.The porosity,O abundance,and ash content of 16-month aged SLHC increased by 37%,47%,and 8.5%,respectively,facilitating Cd sorption due to surface complexation,pore sorption,and precipitation.The sorption percentage of Cd to SLHC was in the range of 11-14%for SLHC-A0 and increased to 17-31%for SLHC-A4 and 20-32%for SLHC-A16 after natural aging.The natural aging of SLHC induced by ash content played an essential role in Cd sorption site heterogeneity.Linear regression analysis showed that aging strategies on sorption behavior significantly differed between biochars.Thus,studies involving natural aging with multiple environmental factors are preferred over those involving chemical or biological aging.Future studies should continue to explore the mechanisms of natural aging-induced heavy metal sorption between hydrochar and pyrochar.These results improve insights to appraise the potential of SLHC as soil amendments to alleviate the adverse effects of heavy metal contamination and provide an essential basis for researchers and staff in soil management and environmental prevention. | Bingyu Wang Cenyao Shang Huifang Xie Haijun Sun Qiang Zhang Lihong Xue Filip M.G.Tack Deyi Hou Yanfang Feng Jörg Rinklebe | 2022 | Biochar2022,4,1: | 0 |
| 20 | FULL TIME-SPACE GOVERNANCE STRATEGY AND TECHNOLOGY FOR CROPLAND NON-POINT POLLUTION CONTROL IN CHINA显示文摘Ensuring food safety while reducing agricultural non-point source pollution is quite challenging,especially in developing and underdeveloped countries.Effective systematic strategies and comprehensive technologies need to be developed for agricultural non-point source pollution control at the watershed scale to improve surface water quality.In this review,a proposal is made for a full time-space governance strategy that prioritizes source management followed by endpoint water pollution control.The 4R chain technology system is specifically reviewed,including source reduction,process retention,nutrient reuse and water restoration.The 4R chain technology system with the full time-space governance strategy was applied at the scale of an administrative village and proved to be a feasible solution for reducing agricultural non-point source pollution in China.In the future,a monitoring system needs to be established to trace N and P transport.Additionally,new smart fertilizer and intelligent equipment need to be developed,and relevant governance standards and supportive policies need to be set to enhance the efficacy of agricultural non-point source pollution control. | Lihong XUE Jingjing DUAN Pengfu HOU Shiying HE Yingliang YU Yanfang FENG Fuxing LIU Linzhang YANG | 2023 | Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2023,10,4: | 0 |
