1Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula,has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases,including type 2 diabetes mellitus.However,the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula.Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action.Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids,proinflammatory cytokines,and ileum transcriptomics.Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels,modulating gut microbiota,inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation.As expected,both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria,including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover,concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes,including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment.Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota.The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases.Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6:29

4Metal chalcogenide complex-mediated fabrication of Cu_2S film as counter electrode in quantum dot sensitized solar cells显示文摘Cu2S film onto FTO glass substrate was obtained to function as counter electrode for polysulfide redox reactions in CdS/CdSe co-sensitized solar cells by sintering after spraying a metal chalcogenide complex, N4H9Cu7S4 solution. Relative to Pt counter electrode, the Cu2S counter electrode provides greater electrocatalytic activity and lower charge transfer resistance. The prepared Cu2S counter electrode represented nanoflower-like porous film which was composed of Cu2S nanosheets on FTO and had a higher surface area and lower sheet resistance than that of sulfided brass Cu2S counter electrode. 6Micelle or polymersome formation by PCL-PEG-PCL copolymers as drug delivery systems显示文摘Polye-caprolactone)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(e-caprolactone)(PCL-b-PEG-b-PCL,PCEC) triblock copolymers have been widely investigated in last several decades.Here,by altering the weight ratio of monomers in ring-opening polymerization,a series of PCEC triblock copolymers with varying hydrophobicity were synthesized,which were characterized by FTIR,1 H NMR,GPC and DSC.When PCEC copolymers with different weight ratios of PCL/PEG were dispersed in different aqueous solutions,they could self-assemble and form two distinctive nanoparticular structures:micelles or polymersomes.We then chose paclitaxel(PTX) as the model drug and encapsulate PTX into PCEC polymeric micelles and polymersomes.The physicochemical characterizations of the nanoparticles such as morphology,the size and distribution,zeta potential,drug loading content,and encapsulation efficiency were also performed.Our results showed that polymeric micelles or polymersomes from PCEC both displayed narrow size distributions and could achieve high drug loading efficiencies.In vitro cellular uptake results suggested that Nile Red loaded polymeric micelles or polymersomes displayed more internalization after 24 h incubation than those after 4 h incubation.These findings suggest that polymeric micelles and polymersomes based on PCL-b-PEG-b-PCL copolymers have great potential to effectively delivery hydrophobic drugs.Chunyan Hu Zhuo Chen Shengjie Wu Yanfeng Han Hai Wang Hongfan Sun Deling Kong Xigang Leng Chun Wang Linhua Zhang Dunwan Zhu 2017Chinese Chemical Letters2017,28,9:4

8Electroluminescence performances of 1,1-bis(4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl)-2,3,4,5-tetraphenylsilole based polymers in three cathode architectures显示文摘A new silole monomer with two 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl substitutions on silicon atom as designed and synthesized.Three copolymers PF-N-HPS1,PF-N-HPS10 and PF-N-HPS20 were then obtained by copolymerizations of 2,7-fluorene derivatives with the silole monomer at feed ratios of 1%,10%,and 20%.Their UV-vis absorption,electrochemical,photoluminescent,and electroluminescent (EL) properties were investigated.PF-N-HPS possessed HOMO levels of 5.25-5.58 eV,and showed green emissions.Using PF-N-HPS as the emissive layer,three different polymer light-emitting diodes were fabricated as device A with ITO/PEDOT/PF-N-HPS/Al,device B with ITO/PEDOT/PF-N-HPS/Ba/Al,and device C with ITO/PEDOT/PF-N-HPS/TPBI/Ba/Al.For the device A,PF-N-HPS only showed very low EL efficiency of 0.06-0.33 cd/A,indicating that the Al cathode could not inject electron efficiently to the emissive polymers containing the 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl groups.For the device B,low work function Ba supplied better electron injections,and the EL efficiency could be improved to 0.85-1.44 cd/A.TPBI with a deep HOMO level of 6.2 eV could enhance electron transport and hole blocking.Thus modified recombinations and largely elevated EL efficiency of 4.56-7.96 cd/A were achieved for the device C.The separation of the emissive layer and metal cathode with the TPBI layer may also suppress exciton quenching at the cathode interface.LIU ZhiTian HU SuJun ZHANG LinHua CHEN JunWu PENG JunBiao CAO Yong 2013Science China Chemistry2013,56,8:2

10A multistep attachment process:Transformation of titanate nanotubes into nanoribbons显示文摘The mechanism of the conversion of titanate nanotubes into nanoribbons is of considerable interest.The details of the transformation processes involved when nanoribbons are produced from a P25 TiO 2 powder precursor by alkaline hydrothermal treatment have been investigated systematically by transmission electron microscopy.A multistep attachment model is proposed for the growth at the early stage of coarsening.The treatment duration has a strong effect on the change in product morphology from hollow nanotubes into nanoribbons,since the nanotubes cannot retain their morphology in the strong alkaline solution for extended periods of time.Most of the nanotubes were etched and dissolved,providing the nutrients for subsequent nanoribbon growth.Some stable nanotubes grew spirally internally to form nanowires or became connected together to form rafts which acted as the grains for nanoribbon growth.With increasing hydrothermal time,a large number of nanotubes and other fragments became attached to the grains which began to grow larger and eventually formed the nanoribbons,in a process in which the stepped faces and kinked faces became fused and were eliminated while the flat faces were retained in the nanoribbon morphology.SHENG Jiang HU LinHua MO Li'E LI WenXin TIAN HuaJun DAI SongYuan 2012Science China Chemistry2012,55,3:2

12Pretreatment with probiotics Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 11181 attenuated Salmonella Typhimurium-induced gut injury through modulating intestinal microbiome and immune responses with barrier function in broiler chickens显示文摘Background:Preventing Salmonella infection and colonization in young birds is key to improving poultry gut health and reducing Salmonella contamination of poultry products and decreasing salmonellosis for human consumption(poultry meat and eggs).Probiotics can improve poultry health.The present study was conducted to investigate the impact of a probiotics,Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 11181(E.faecium NCIMB 11181)on the intestinal mucosal immune responses,microbiome and barrier function in the presence or absence of Salmonella Typhimurium(S.Typh-imurium,ST)infection.Methods:Two hundred and forty 1-day-old Salmonella-free male broiler chickens(Arbor Acres AA+)were randomly allocated to four groups with 6 replicate cages of 10 birds each.The four experimental groups were follows:(1)nega-tive control(NC),(2)S.Typhimurium,challenged positive control(PC),(3)the E.faecium NCIMB 11181-treated group(EF),(4)the E.faecium NCIMB 11181-treated and S.Typhimurium-challenged group(PEF).Results:Results indicated that,although continuous feeding E.faecium NCIMB 11181 did not obviously alleviate growth depression caused by S.Typhimurium challenge(P>0.05),E.faecium NCIMB 11181 addition significantly blocked Salmonella intestinal colonization and translocation(P<0.05).Moreover,supplemental E.faecium NCIMB 11181 to the infected chickens remarkably attenuated gut morphological structure damage and intestinal cell apoptosis induced by S.Typhimurium infection,as evidenced by increasing gut villous height and reducing intes-tinal TUNEL-positive cell numbers(P<0.05).Also,E.faecium NCIMB 11181 administration notably promoting the production of anti-Salmonella antibodies in intestinal mucosa and serum of the infected birds(P<0.05).Addition-ally,16S rRNA sequencing analysis revealed that E.faecium NCIMB 11181 supplementation ameliorated S.Typhimu-rium infection-induced gut microbial dysbiosis by enriching Lachnospiracease and Alistipes levels,and suppressing Barnesiella abundance.Predicted function analysis indicated that the functional genes of cecal microbiome involved in C5-branched dibasic acid metabolism;valine,leucine and isoleucine biosynthesis;glycerolipid metabolism and lysine biosynthesis were enriched in the infected chickens given E.faecium NCIMB 11181.While alanine,asparate and glutamate metabolism;MAPK signal pathway-yeast;ubiquine and other terpenoid-quinore biosynthesis,protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum;as well as glutathione metabolism were suppressed by E.faecium NCIMB 11181 addition.Conclusion:Collectively,our data suggested that dietary E.faecium NCIBM 11181 supplementation could ameliorate S.Typhimurium infection-induced gut injury in broiler chickens.Our findings also suggest that E.faecium NCIMB 11181 may serve as an effective non-antibiotic feed additive for improving gut health and controlling Salmonella infection in broiler chickens.Yujing Shao Wenrui Zhen Fangshen Guo Zeqiong Hu Kaichen Zhang Linhua Kong Yuming Guo Zhong Wang 2023Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023,14,2:1

18Improved crystallinity and self-healing effects in perovskite solar cells via functional incorporation of polyvinylpyrrolidone显示文摘Air moisture is the key issue for perovskites which invades the films and accelerates the damage of devices. Here, polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) is introduced to the methylammonium lead iodide(MAPbI_(3)) perovskite precursor to control crystal growth and endow the devices with self-healing ability in a moisture environment. The strong C=O...ΗAΝ hydrogen bonding interactions between PVP and MAPbI_(3) was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance measurements. By introducing hydrogen bonding in the MAPbI_(3)-based PSCs, we form a compact perovskite film of excellent electronic quality with a power conversion efficiency(PCE) of up to 20.32%. Furthermore, the O...ΗAΝ hydrogen bonding interactions at the grain boundaries suppress the decomposition of methylammonium cations and improve the recyclable dissolution–recrystallization of perovskite.
