1Use of donor-specific red blood cell transfusions for patients undergoing liver transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘Background:Increased risks have been found for patients undergoing liver transplantation due to the blood supply shortage following the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Hence,exploring a method to alleviate this dilemma is urgent.This phase I,nonrandomized,prospective trial aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of using donor-specific red blood cell transfusion(DRBCT)as an urgent measurement to alleviate the blood supply shortage in deceased donor liver transplantation(DDLT).Methods:The outcomes of 26 patients who received DRBCT and 37 patients in the control group who only received 3rd party packed red blood cells(pRBCs)transfusion between May 2020 and January 2021 were compared.Results:Patients receiving DRBCT did not develop transfusion-related complications,and the incidence of postoperative infection was similar to that in the control group(23.1%vs.18.9%,P=0.688).Because the patients received the red blood cells from organ donors,the median volume of intraoperative allogeneic red blood cell transfusion from blood bank was 4.0 U(IQR 1.1-8.0 U)in the DRBCT group,which is significantly lower than that(7.5 U,IQR 4.0-10.0 U)in the control group(P=0.018).The peak aspartate aminotransferase(AST)level was significantly lower in the DRBCT group than in the control group(P=0.008)and so were the AST levels in the first two days after the operation(P=0.006 and P=0.033).Conclusions:DRBCT is a safe and effective procedure to lower the need for blood supply and is associated with a reduction in AST levels after transplantation.DRBCT is beneficial to patients receiving life-saving transplantation without sufficient blood supply during the COVID-19 pandemic.Tao Lv Xi Xu Jiulin Song Yifei Tan Li Jiang Jian Yang Diao He Lingxiang Kong Weiyi Zhang Panyu Chen Qiwen Xiang Tao Zhu Hong Wu Tianfu Wen Jiayin Yang 2021Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2021,10,4:2
2Genomic Variations in the Tea Leafhopper Reveal the Basis of Its Adaptive Evolution显示文摘Tea green leafhopper(TGL),Empoasca onukii,is of biological and economic interest.Despite numerous studies,the mechanisms underlying its adaptation and evolution remain enigmatic.Here,we use previously untapped genome and population genetics approaches to examine how the pest adapted to different environmental variables and thus has expanded geographically.We complete a chromosome-level assembly and annotation of the E.onukii genome,showing notable expansions of gene families associated with adaptation to chemoreception and detoxification.Genomic signals indicating balancing selection highlight metabolic pathways involved in adaptation to a wide range of tea varieties grown across ecologically diverse regions.Patterns of genetic variations among 54 E.onukii samples unveil the population structure and evolutionary history across different tea-growing regions in China.Our results demonstrate that the genomic changes in key pathways,including those linked to metabolism,circadian rhythms,and immune system functions,may underlie the successful spread and adaptation of E.onukii.This work highlights the genetic and molecular basis underlying the evolutionary success of a species with broad economic impacts,and provides insights into insect adaptation to host plants,which will ultimately facilitate more sustainable pest management.Qian Zhao Longqing Shi Weiyi He Jinyu Li Shijun You Shuai Chen Jing Lin Yibin Wang Liwen Zhang Guang Yang Liette Vasseur Minsheng You 2022Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2022,20,6:1

8Isotope effect of the phonons mean free path in graphene by micro-Raman measurement显示文摘The isotope labeled graphene was synthesized in the concentration of 13 C carbon atom in 1%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 99%. The isotope effect on the phonon behavior in graphene was investigated based on the micro-Raman analysis of 13 C isotope labeled graphene samples. We found that the phonon scattering is affected by the isotopic carbon atom as a point defect. Based on the experiment results, the Klemens-Callaway model and uncertainty principle were used to obtain the mean free path of the G and D phonons. 9Biomechanical evaluation of two fusion techniques based on finite element analysis:Percutaneous endoscopic and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion显示文摘As a novel minimally invasive technique,percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(PETLIF)has been widely used in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases.The purpose of this study was to analyze these two operation types’biomechanical performances of PE-TLIF and traditional minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(MIS-TLIF)using the finite element(FE)method.The intact FE models of L4-L5 were established and validated based on the CT images.On this basis,the FE models of MIS-TLIF and PETLIF were established and analyzed.It is demonstrated that for lumbar interbody fusion with the oblique asymmetrically implanted cage under bilateral pedicle screws and rods fixation,such as MIS-TLIF and PE-TLIF,different degrees of articular process resection have no significant effect on the cage subsidence,and the surgical segment can achieve similar stability.In addition,the maximum stress of the L4 inferior endplate of MIS-TLIF and PE-TLIF is greater than that of the L5 superior endplate,which indicates that MIS-TLIF and PE-TLIF can cause cage subsidence in the L4 inferior endplate.Yang Yan Jiarui Li Jianhao Yu Yan Wang Hao Dong Yuqin Sun Xiaogang Wu Liming He Weiyi Chen Haoyu Feng 2022Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2022,,4:1
10Fast-chargingand dendrite-free lithiummetal anodeeenabledby partial lithiation ofgraphene aerogel显示文摘The development of deeply cyclable lithium metal batteries with fast-charging capability offers a promising solution to relieve the“range anxiety”in driving electric vehicles.Conventional lithium metal anodes suffered from low operating current densities and shallow charge/discharge depths,owing to the intrinsic dendrite growth governed by Sand’s law.Herein,we come up with a novel design of heavy-duty lithium metal anode fabricated by partially infusing the three-dimensional(3D)porous graphene aerogel with molten Li.Both electroanalytical measurements and simulations show that the unique electrode architecture brings notable advantages in mediating smooth Li plating/stripping,including reduced local current density,inhibited dendrite growth,buffered volume fluctuation,as well as more efficient Li utilization.Consequently,a remarkable cycling performance in symmetric cells for over 400 cycles(800 h)with an ultrahigh cycling capacity of 15 mAh·cm^(−2) at 15 mA·cm^(−2) is achieved,which,to our best knowledge,has been never seen in literature.LiFePO4 full cells demonstrate a superb rate capability up to 10 C and a prolonged cycling of 1,600 cycles at 2 C with the per-cycle capacity decay of only 0.023%.This study paves the way for the ultimate deployment of lithium metal batteries in real-world applications that require fast charging and deep cycling.Yong Ma Yuting Gu Ying He Le Wei Yuebin Lian Weiyi Pan Xinjian Li Yanhui Su Yang Peng Zhao Deng Zhongfan Liu 2022Nano Research2022,15,11:1

13Cyclic Stretch Induces Inflammatory Cytokines via the Oxidative Stress and NF-ΚB Pathways Activation in Human Keratoconic Fibroblasts显示文摘The cornea is a load-bearing tissue.Lower biomechanical properties in the local tissue of keratoconic cornea evoke mechanical stress increase.Inflammatory cytokines have been shown to be over-expressed in patients with keratoconus.However,how mechanical stimuli are involved in the production of inflammatory cytokines in keratoconus remains unclear.The objective of the study is to determine the role of mechanical stretch in the regulation of inflammatory cytokines and the underlying mechanisms in keratoconus.Human keratoconic fibroblasts(hKCFs)were subjected to 12%cyclic mechanical stretch at 0.1 Hz or in static conditions as controls.N-acetyl cysteine(NAC)and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(PDTC)were used to inhibit reactive oxygen species(ROS)production and NF-κB pathway respectively.ROS production was measured using 2’,7’-dichlorodihydrofluorescindiacetate probe.Conditioned media and cell lysates were collected for protein assessment.Cyclic stretch-induced a higher production of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1),tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),interleukin(IL)-6,and IL-8 in hKCFs than static controls.ROS was also elevated in response to cyclic stretch.Inhibition of ROS or NF-κB attenuated stretch-induced ICAM-1,TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-8.Inhibition of stretch-induced ROS production by NAC also attenuated NF-κB activation.Our findings suggest that mechanical stretch may induce the release of inflammatory cytokines by activating oxidative stress and NF-kB pathway,and ROS may positively control NF-κB signaling.Over-expression of inflammatory cytokines induced by mechanical stretch may play a role in progression of keratoconus.Xiaona Li Sijia Wang Jie Song Yixian Qin Jizhong Yang Rui He Weiyi Chen 2021Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics2021,18,1:0
14Automatic quantification of morphology on magnetic resonance images of the proximal tibia显示文摘The morphological quantification of the proximal tibia of the knee joint is important in knee replacement.Accurate knowledge of these parameters provides the basis for design of the tibial prosthesis and its fixation.Ideally,a prosthesis that is suitable for the morphological characteristics of Chinese knees is needed.In this paper,a deep learning automatic network framework is designed to achieve automatic segmentation and automatic quantitative analysis of magnetic resonance images of the tibia.An enhanced feature fusion network structure is designed,including high and low-level feature fusion path modules to create accurate segmentation of the tibia.A new method of extracting feature points and lines from outline contours of the proximal tibia is designed to automatically calculate six clinical morphological linear parameters of the tibia in real-time.The final result is an automatic visualisation of the tibial contour and automated extraction of tibial morphometric parameters.Validation of the results from our system against a gold standard obtained by manual processing by expert clinicians showed the Dice coefficient to be 0.97,the accuracy to be 0.98,and the correlation coefficients for all six morphological parameters of the automatic quantification of the tibia are above 0.96.The gender-specific study found that the values of the proximal tibial linear parameters of internal and external tibial diameter,anterior and posterior diameter,lateral plateau length,lateral plateau width,medial plateau length,and medial plateau width in male patients are significantly greater than in female patients(all P values<0.01).The results enrich the use of deep learning in medicine,providing orthopaedic specialists with a valuable and intelligent quantitative tool that can assess the progression and changes in osteoarthritis of the knee joint.Dongdong He Yuan Guo Xushu Zhang Changjiang Wang Zihui Zhao Weiyi Chen Kai Zhang Binping Ji 2023Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2023,,1:0

17A deep learning model for generating fundus autofluorescence images from color fundus photography显示文摘Background:Fundus Autofluorescence(FAF)is a valuable imaging technique used to assess metabolic alterations in the retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)associated with various age-related and disease-related changes.The practical uses of FAF are ever-growing.This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a generative deep learning(DL)model in translating color fundus(CF)images into synthetic FAF images and explore its potential for enhancing screening of age-related macular degeneration(AMD).Methods:A generative adversarial network(GAN)model was trained on pairs of CF and FAF images to generate synthetic FAF images.The quality of synthesized FAF images was assessed objectively by common generation metrics.Additionally,the clinical effectiveness of the generated FAF images in AMD classification was evaluated by measuring the area under the curve(AUC),using the LabelMe dataset.Results:A total of 8410 FAF images from 2586 patients were analyzed.The synthesized FAF images exhibited an impressive objectively assessed quality,achieving a multi-scale structural similarity index(MS-SSIM)of 0.67.When evaluated on the LabelMe dataset,the combination of generated FAF images and CF images resulted in a noteworthy improvement in AMD classification accuracy,with the AUC increasing from 0.931 to 0.968.Conclusions:This study presents the first attempt to use a generative deep learning model to create authentic and high-quality FAF images from CF images.The incorporation of the translated FAF images on top of CF images improved the accuracy of AMD classification.Overall,this study presents a promising approach to enhance largescale AMD screening.Fan Song Weiyi Zhang Yingfeng Zheng Danli Shi Mingguang He 2023Advances in Ophthalmology Practice and Research2023,3,4:0

19Study of Myelin Basic Protein Associated with Pediatric Systematic Epilepsy显示文摘Objective: To investigate the quantitative myelin basic protein (MBP) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum in pediatric systematic epilepsy (SEP), study the relation between SEP and MBP, and the possibility predicating'the injury of myelin and blood-brain barrier (BBB) from pediatric SEP. Background: While tactors induced destroy of cerebral and Myelin, MBP was released out into CSF to increase its concentration. On the other hand, the BBB was involved to make serum MBP increased. The related studies had confirmed these viewpoints above. The test for quantitative MBP was recognized as the specific biochemical index, which diagnose if there is or not organic injury of cerebral and myelin. There was few reports about the studies of quantitative MBP in CSF and serum of EP, not mention to those published in domestic pediatric academia. Methods: 47 cases were studied during one month after the SEP attack, whose MBP in serum were quantitatively and 31 inside in CSF were also tested by easy MBP-ELISA method; the quantitative MBP in serum of 30 control cases and 10 in CSF were tested, too. Results: MBP values in CSF and serum of SEP pediatric patients were 2.95±0.61 ng/ml and 3.17±0.53 ng/ml; whereas 1.41 ±0.19 ng/ml and 1.30±0.04 ng/ml in control group. Both mean valves of MBP in CSF and serum in study group were significantly higher than control group (either P< 0.01). Discussion: In general, electrophysiological evidences supported the issue that epileptic episode was originated from abnormal electrical activities of nervous cells. Pathological studies revealed degeneration and necrosis of nerve existed in temporal epileptic focus, where there was morphological change of myelin. This study showed MBP values in CSF and serum of SEEP, during one month after attack, increased significantly; suggested there was changed component of MBP, while SEP could not be controled. Those above indicated the destroy of myelin, increasing of BBB permeability that induced its injured function. Conclusion: There were increasing values of MBP in CSF and serum in pediatric SEP, indicating a demyelinatting pathological course and injury of blood-brain barrier.
