Autophagy and inflammation in ischemic stroke显示文摘Appropriate autophagy has protective effects on ischemic nerve tissue, while excessive autophagy may cause cell death. The inflammatory response plays an important role in the survival of nerve cells and the recovery of neural tissue after ischemia. Many studies have found an interaction between autophagy and inflammation in the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. This study outlines recent advances regarding the role of autophagy in the post-stroke inflammatory response as follows.(1)Autophagy inhibits inflammatory responses caused by ischemic stimulation through mTOR,the AMPK pathway, and inhibition of inflammasome activation.(2)Activation of inflammation triggers the formation of autophagosomes, and the upregulation of autophagy levels is marked by a significant increase in the autophagy-forming markers LC3-II and Beclin-1.Lipopolysaccharide stimulates microglia and inhibits ULK1 activity by direct phosphorylation of p38 MAPK,reducing the flux and autophagy level, thereby inducing inflammatory activity.(3)By blocking the activation of autophagy, the activation of inflammasomes can alleviate cerebral ischemic injury.Autophagy can also regulate the phenotypic alternation of microglia through the nuclear factor-κB pathway, which is beneficial to the recovery of neural tissue after ischemia.Studies have shown that some drugs such as resveratrol can exert neuroprotective effects by regulating the autophagy-inflammatory pathway. These studies suggest that the autophagy-inflammatory pathway may provide a new direction for the treatment of ischemic stroke.Yun Mo Yin-Yi Sun Kang-Yong Liu 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,8:90
Light-absorbing Particles in Snow and Ice: Measurement and Modeling of Climatic and Hydrological impact显示文摘Light absorbing particles(LAP, e.g., black carbon, brown carbon, and dust) influence water and energy budgets of the atmosphere and snowpack in multiple ways. In addition to their effects associated with atmospheric heating by absorption of solar radiation and interactions with clouds, LAP in snow on land and ice can reduce the surface reflectance(a.k.a., surface darkening), which is likely to accelerate the snow aging process and further reduces snow albedo and increases the speed of snowpack melt. LAP in snow and ice(LAPSI) has been identified as one of major forcings affecting climate change, e.g.in the fourth and fifth assessment reports of IPCC. However, the uncertainty level in quantifying this effect remains very high. In this review paper, we document various technical methods of measuring LAPSI and review the progress made in measuring the LAPSI in Arctic, Tibetan Plateau and other mid-latitude regions. We also report the progress in modeling the mass concentrations, albedo reduction, radiative forcing, and climatic and hydrological impact of LAPSI at global and regional scales. Finally we identify some research needs for reducing the uncertainties in the impact of LAPSI on global and regional climate and the hydrological cycle.Yun QIAN Teppei J.YASUNARI Sarah J.DOHERTY Mark G.FLANNER William K.M.LAU MING Jing Hailong WANG Mo WANG Stephen G.WARREN Rudong ZHANG 2015Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,1:16

uPAR promotes tumor-like biologic behaviors of fibroblast-like synoviocytes through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in patients with rheumatoid arthritis显示文摘Urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor(uPAR),is a multifunctional receptor on cell surface, widely present in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and a variety of malignant cells.Current studies have suggested that uPAR overexpressed on synovial tissues or in synovial fluid or plasma in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA).However, there are limited researches regarding the role of uPAR on fibroblast-like synoviocytes of rheumatoid arthritis(RA-FLSs)and its underlying mechanisms. Here, our studies show that the expression of uPAR protein was significantly higher in fibroblast-like synoviocytes(FLSs)from RA than those from osteoarthritis or traumatic injury patients.uPAR gene silencing significantly inhibited RA-FLSs cell proliferation, restrained cell transformation from the G0/G1 phase to S phase, aggravated cell apoptosis, interfered with RA-FLSs cell migration and invasion, and reduced activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which may be associated withβ1-integrin.Cell supernatants from uPAR gene-silenced RA-FLSs markedly inhibited the migration and tubule formation ability of the HUVECs(a human endothelial cell line). Therefore,we demonstrate that uPAR changes the biological characteristics of RA-FLSs,and affects neoangiogenesis of synovial tissues in patients with RA.All of these may be associated with theβ1-integrin/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. These results imply that targeting uPAR and its downstream signal pathway may provide therapeutic effects in RA.Yan Liu Yun Feng Pan You-qiu Xue Lin-kai Fang Xing-hua Guo Xin Guo Meng Liu Bi-yao Mo Meng-ru Yang Fang Liu Yun-ting Wu Nancy Olsen Song Guo Zheng 2018Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,2:9
Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear. Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks. Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease, while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes.MA Yan ZHU Dong Shan CHEN Ren Bo SHI Nan Nan LIU Si Hong FAN Yi Pin WU Gui Hui YANG Pu Ye BAI Jiang Feng CHEN Hong CHEN Li Ying FENG Qiao GUO Tuan Mao HOU Yong HU Gui Fen HU Xiao Mei HU Yun Hong HUANG Jin HUANG Qiu Hua HUANG Shao Zhen JI Liang JIN Hai Hao LEI Xiao LI Chun Yan LI Min Qing LI Qun Tang LI Xian Yong LIU Hong De LIU Jin Ping LIU Zhang MA Yu Ting MAO Ya MO Liu Fen NA Hui WANG Jing Wei SONG Fang Li SUN Sheng WANG Dong Ting WANG Ming Xuan WANG Xiao Yan WANG Yin Zhen WANG Yu Dong WU Wei WU Lan Ping XIAO Yan Hua XIE Hai Jun XU Hong Ming XU Shou Fang XUE Rui Xia YANG Chun YANG Kai Jun YUAN Sheng Li ZHANG Gong Qi ZHANG Jin Bo ZHANG Lin Song ZHAO Shu Sen ZHAO Wan Ying ZHENG Kai ZHOU Ying Chun ZHU Jun Teng ZHU Tian Qing ZHANG Hua Min WANG Yan Ping WANG Yong Yan 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12:8
Relationship between Ambient Fine Particles and Ventricular Repolarization Changes and Heart Rate Variability of Elderly People with Heart Disease in Beijing, China显示文摘Objective To explore the effects of particulate matters less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM 2.5) on heart repolarization/depolarization and heart rate variability (HRV). Methods We conducted a panel study for elderly subjects with heart disease in Beijing from 2007 to 2008. PM 2.5 was measured at a fixed station for 20 h continuously each day while electrocardiogram (ECG) indexes of 42 subjects were also recorded repeatedly. Meteorological data was obtained from the China Meteorological Data Sharing Service System. A mixed linear regression model was used to estimate the associations between PM 2.5 and the ECG indexes. The model was adjusted for age, body mass index, sex, day of the week andmeteorology. Results Significant adverse effects of PM 2.5 on ECG indexes reflecting HRV were observed statistically and the strongest effect of PM 2.5 on HRV was on lag 1 day in our study. However, there were no associations between PM 2.5 and ECG indexes reflecting heart repolarization/depolarization. Additionally, the effects of PM 2.5 on subjects with hypertension were larger than on the subjects without hypertension. Conclusion This study showed ambient PM 2.5 could affect cardiac autonomic function of the elderly people with heart disease, and subjects with hypertension appeared to be more susceptive to the autonomic dysfunction induced by PM 2.5.XU Mei Mei JIA Yu Ping LI Guo Xing LIU Li Qun MO Yun Zheng JIN Xiao Bin PAN Xiao Chuan 2013Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,8:6
Seroprevalence of Neutralizing Antibodies against Six Human Adenovirus Types Indicates the Low Level of Herd Immunity in Young Children from Guangzhou, China显示文摘Human adenoviruses(HAdVs) commonly cause many diseases such as respiratory diseases, gastroenteritis, cystitis worldwide. HAdV-3,-7,-4 and emergent HAdV-55 and HAdV-14 are the most important types causing severe respiratory diseases. There is no effective drug available for clinical treatment, and no vaccine available for the general population. Therefore, it is important to investigate the seroprevalence against HAdV for developing novel vaccines and vectors. In this study, we investigated the seroprevalence and titer levels of neutralizing antibodies(NAb) against HAdV-3,-4,-7,-14,-55,and-11 in total 278 healthy populations between 0 months and 49 years of age(228 children and 50 adults) from Guangzhou. In children under the age of 18 years, the seropositive rates were significantly increased against HAdV-3 at12.07%, 33.96%, and 64.29% and against HAdV-7 at 0%, 18.87%, and 19.05% in age groups of 1–2, 3–5, and 6–17 years, respectively. The seroprevalence was very low(0% - 8.1%) for all other four types. In adults aged between 18 and49 years, HAdV-3,-4, and-7(> 50.00%) were the most common types, followed by HAdV-14(38.00%),-55(34.00%),and-11(24.00%). Adults tended to have high NAb titers against HAdV-4 and-55. HAdV-55-seropositive donors tended to be HAdV-11-and HAdV-14-seropositive. These results indicated the low level of herd immunity against all six HAdV types in young children, and HAdV-14,-55,-11 in adults from Guangzhou City. Our findings demonstrate the importance of monitoring HAdV types and developing vaccines against HAdV for children and adults.Xingui Tian Ye Fan Changbing Wang Zhenwei Liu Wenkuan Liu Yun Xu Chuncong Mo Aiping You Xiao Li Xia Rong Rong Zhou 2021Virologica Sinica2021,36,3:5
Effect of Jianpi Bushen Sequential Formula on Adjuvant Chemotherapy of Colon Cancer:Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Background The side effects of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting(CINV)and myelosuppression reduce the cancer patients’adherence to chemotherapy. Many Chinese patients choose Chinese medicine(CM)during chemotherapy to reduce side effects;however, the evidence is lacking. The efficacy of a CM herbal treatment protocol,Jianpi Bushen Sequential Formula(健脾补肾续贯方,JBSF)will be evaluated on chemotherapy completion rate among patients with colon cancer. Methods A multi-center double-blind randomized controlled trial(RCT)will be conducted on 400 patients with colon cancer who will receive 8 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy with oxaliplatin and capecitabine(CAPEOX).Patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive the JBSF or placebo formula. The primary outcome is the overall chemotherapy completion rate. The secondary outcomes include individual chemotherapy completion rate,4-cycle completion rate of chemotherapy, time to treatment failure, relative dose intensity and treatment toxicity.Follow-up visits will be scheduled before every and after last chemotherapy.Discussion This study will provide evidence on whether JBSF can improve the chemotherapy completion rate and reduce side effects among patients with colon cancer.(Trial registration:Clinical Trials.gov,No.NCT03716518)。ZHANG Tong FEI Yu-tong XU Yun SUN Ling-yun HE Bin YAN Shao-hua TANG Mo YAN Yun-zi MAO Jun YANG Yu-fei 2021Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,12:4
Multistep evolution from a metal–organic framework to ultrathin nanosheets显示文摘Two-dimensional (2D) materials and ultrathin nanosheets have attracted tremendous research interests [1-4]. Exfoliation of porous coordination polymers (PCPs) or metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with 2D coordination structures is emerging as a viable strategy for preparation of new types of 2D materials [5-8]. The relatively weak bonding within and strong interactions between 2D coordination networks are the main problems for successful exfoliation [9]. Pretreatments of the layered MOFs to expand the interlayer distances can be helpful [10-12]. Capturing the exfoliation intermediates and visualizing their structures are valuable for understanding the exfoliation mechanism and confirming the structures of the final 2D materials [11,12].Yun Li Jin Huang Zong-Wen Mo Xue-Wen Zhang Xiao-Ning Cheng Li Gong Dong-Dong Zhou Jie-Peng Zhang 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,14:3
Rare earth elements and yttrium in ferromanganese deposits from the South China Sea:distribution, composition and resource considerations显示文摘Ferromanganese nodules and crusts contain relatively high concentration of rare earth elements(REE) and yttrium(REY),with a growing interest in exploitation as an alternative to land-based REY resources. On the basis of comprehensive geochemical approach, the abundance and distribution of REY in the ferromanganese nodules from the South China Sea are analyzed. The results indicate that the REY contents in ferromanganese deposits show a clear geographic regularity.Total REY contents range from 69.1×10^(–6) to 2 919.4×10^(–6),with an average value of 1 459.5×10^(–6).Especially,the enrichment rate of Ce content is high, accounting for almost 60% of the total REY.This REE enrichment is controlled mainly by the sorption of ferromanganese oxides and clay minerals in the nodules and crusts. Moreover, the total REY are higher in ferromanganese deposits of hydrogenous origin than of diagenetic origin. Finally,Light REE(LREE) and heavy REE(HREE) oxides of the ferromanganese deposits in the study area can be classified into four grades: non-enriched type, weakly enriched type, enriched type, and extremely enriched type.According to the classification criteria of rare earth resources, the Xisha and Zhongsha platform-central deep basin areas show a great potential for these rare earth metals.ZHONG Yi CHEN Zhong GONZALEZ Francisco Javier ZHENG Xufeng LI Gang LUO Yun MO Aibin XU Antao WANG Shuhong 2018Acta Oceanologica Sinica2018,37,7:3
A New Amperometric Detector Cell for Capillary Zone Electrophoresis显示文摘A simple and convenient electrochenical detection cell for capillary electrophoresis is described in this paper. In this cell, alignment of the capillary working electrode with the separation capillary outlet can be achieved precisely and easily without the aid of the ndcropositioner or ndcroscope. With end-column detection, the applicability of the cell as an amperometric detector for capillary electrophoresis is demonstrated by running several phenolic compounds in 50 μm i.d. capillary with a capillary Pt electrode as the working electrode. Results obtained are satisfactory.Xiao Yun YANG JinYuan MO TianYao XIE Bing Yi YANG Wen Feng LIU Pei Xiang CAI(Department of Chemistry, Zhongshan University, Guang Zhou 510275) 1998Chinese Chemical Letters1998,9,8:3
