| 5 | Biological productivity and carbon cycling in the Arctic Ocean显示文摘Primary production, bacterial production, par-ticulate organic carbon fluxes and organic carbon burial rates were quantified during the summer period of 1999 in the Arctic Ocean via 14C uptake, 3H uptake, 234Th/238U disequilibrium and 210Pbex dating, respectively. The integrated primary production in the water column was as high as 197 mmolC/(m2·d) in the Chukchi shelf and was 3.8 mmolC/(m2·d) in the Canada Basin. These rates are higher than those reported previously. The ratios of bacterial production to primary production in the study region were higher than 0.5, indicating that microbial activity is not depressed but important in cold Arctic waters. 234Th/238U dis-equilibria were evident at the station in the Canada Basin. The presence of significant 234Th deficiency suggested that scavenging and removal processes are also important to bio-geochemical cycles of trace elements in the Arctic Ocean. | 6 | Occupant evacuation model based on cellular automata in fire显示文摘By applying the rules set in traffic flow and pedestrian flow models, a basic cellular automata model is presented to simulate occupant evacuation in fire. Some extended models are introduced to study the special phenomena of evacuation from the fire room. The key of the models is the introduction of the danger grade which makes the route choice convenient and reasonable. Fire not only influences the emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual but also affects his physical constitution, which reduces his maximal possible velocity. The models consider these influence factors by applying a set of simple but effective rules. It is needed to emphasize that all rules are established according to the essential phenomenon in fire evacuation, that is, all the occupants would try to move to the safest place as fast as possible. | 8 | Drug nanoclusters formed in confined nano-cages of CD-MOF: dramatic enhancement of solubility and bioavailability of azilsartan显示文摘Tremendous efforts have been devoted to the enhancement of drug solubility using nanotechnologies, but few of them are capable to produce drug particles with sizes less than a few nanometers. This challenge has been addressed here by using biocompatible versatile γ-cyclodextrin(γ-CD) metal-organic framework(CD-MOF) large molecular cages in which azilsartan(AZL) was successfully confined producing clusters in the nanometer range. This strategy allowed to improve the bioavailability of AZL in Sprague–Dawley rats by 9.7-fold after loading into CD-MOF. The apparent solubility of AZL/CD-MOF was enhanced by 340-fold when compared to the pure drug. Based on molecular modeling, a dual molecular mechanism of nanoclusterization and complexation of AZL inside the CD-MOF cages was proposed, which was confirmed by small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS) and synchrotron radiation-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(SR-FTIR) techniques. In a typical cage-like unit of CD-MOF, three molecules of AZL were included by the γ-CD pairs, whilst other three AZL molecules formed a nanocluster inside the 1.7 nm sized cavity surrounded by six γ-CDs. | 10 | Platelet-rich plasma accelerates skin wound healing by promoting re-epithelialization显示文摘Background:Autologous platelet-rich plasma(PRP)has been suggested to be effective for wound healing.However,evidence for its use in patients with acute and chronic wounds remains insufficient.The aims of this study were to comprehensively examine the effectiveness,synergy and possible mechanism of PRP-mediated improvement of acute skin wound repair.Methods:Full-thickness wounds were made on the back of C57/BL6 mice.PRP or saline solution as a control was administered to the wound area.Wound healing rate,local inflammation,angiogenesis,re-epithelialization and collagen deposition were measured at days 3,5,7 and 14 after skin injury.The biological character of epidermal stem cells(ESCs),which reflect the potential for re-epithelialization,was further evaluated in vitro and in vivo.Results:PRP strongly improved skin wound healing,which was associated with regulation of local inflammation,enhancement of angiogenesis and re-epithelialization.PRP treatment significantly reduced the production of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-17A and interleukin-1β.An increase in the local vessel intensity and enhancement of re-epithelialization were also observed in animals with PRP administration and were associated with enhanced secretion of growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor and insulin-like growth factor-1.Moreover,PRP treatment ameliorated the survival and activated the migration and proliferation of primary cultured ESCs,and these effects were accompanied by the differentiation of ESCs into adult cells following the changes of CD49f and keratin 10 and keratin 14.Conclusion:PRP improved skin wound healing by modulating inflammation and increasing angiogenesis and re-epithelialization.However,the underlying regulatory mechanism needs to be investigated in the future.Our data provide a preliminary theoretical foundation for the clinical administration of PRP in wound healing and skin regeneration. | Pengcheng Xu Yaguang Wu Lina Zhou Zengjun Yang Xiaorong Zhang Xiaohong Hu Jiacai Yang Mingying Wang Binjie Wang Gaoxing Luo Weifeng He Biao Cheng | 2020 | Burns & Trauma2020,8,1: | 8 |
| 11 | Velvet antler polypeptide is able to induce differentiation of neural stem cells towards neurons in vitro显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the neural differentiation capacity of water extraction of velvet antler.METHODS: Velvet antler(Cervus Nippon Temminck) polypeptide(VAP) was used to differentiate neural stem cells(NSCs) towards neurons in the study. Firstly, we obtain the polypeptides of VAP by water extraction. Secondly, we observed the morphology, assayed the factors in the media by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and detected the special neural molecules by immuno fl uorescence staining. NSCs were cultured on the cell climbing film. | 12 | The input/removal rates of size-fractionated ^210Po in the Jiulongjiang estuary and its implications显示文摘The geochemical behaviors of dissolved (<0.4 mm), low molecular weight (<10 kDa) and colloidal (10 kDa- 0.4 mm) 210Po in surface waters from the Jiulongjiang estuary were examined and the input/removal rates of different 210Po species were estimated. Both dissolved and low molecular weight 210Po were considerably removed during estuarine mixing. However, colloidal 210Po was removed only at low salinity regions (S <15) but had input behavior at high salin-ity surface waters (S >15). The input/removal rates of three species indicate that 210Po was removed rapidly in the Jiu-longjiang estuary. The discrepancy of input/removal rates between 210Po species suggests different geochemical be-havior and a dynamic transformation between 210Po species. | 15 | “Wrapping the gastroduodenal artery stump” during pancreatoduodenectomy reduced the stump hemorrhage incidence after operation显示文摘Objective: After pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD), the postoperative gastroduodenal artery stump(GDAS) hemorrhage is one of the most serious complications. The purpose of this study is to determine whether wrapping the GDAS during PD could decrease the postoperative GDAS hemorrhage incidence.Methods: A retrospective review involving 280 patients who underwent PD from 2005 to 2012 was performed. Wrapping the GDAS during PD was defined as 'Wrapping the GDAS using the teres hepatis ligamentum during PD'. A total of 140 patients accepted the 'wrapping' procedure(wrapping group). The other 140 patients didn't apply the procedure(non-wrapping group). Age, sex, preoperative data, estimated intraoperative blood loss, postoperative complications, pathologic parameters and hospitalization time were compared between two groups.Results: There were no significant differences in patient characteristics between two groups. After wrapping, the incidence of postoperative GDAS bleeding decreased significantly(1/140 vs. 9/140, P=0.01). The rates of the other complications(such as intra-abdominal infection pancreatic fistula, billiary fistula, gastrointestinal bleeding, et al.) showed no significant differences. Conclusions: Wrapping the GDAS during PD significantly reduced the postoperative GDAS hemorrhage incidence. | 16 | Overburden failure and the prevention of water and sand inrush during coal mining under thin bedrock显示文摘Coal mining under thin bedrock or thick unconsolidated soil layers brings mining problems related to these special geological conditions. The meaning of the term ''thin bedrock'' is defined through the thick- ness statistics of the coal seam and the bedrock layer. The coal-bearing strata having thick, unconsoli- dated aquifers and thin bedrock located at the Taiping Coal Mine in Shandong province were taken as a geological prototype for subsequent study. The geological, hydro-geological and engineering character- istics of the thin bedrock were analyzed. An engineering geological model was than established. Overbur- den failure and the development of ''Three Zones'' were studied by physical model tests. The rupture pattern and rock failure were analyzed for mining conditions under thin bedrock. The height of the caving zone and the freely flowing water fractured zone of different mining thicknesses were separately calcu- lated. The results show that a mining thickness greater than 3.5 m causes the height of the freely flowing water fractured zone to be sufficient to touch the weathered zone and the bottom of the Quaternary sys- tem aquifer, to various degrees. This, then, would lead to water and sand inrush into the working face. Measures to prevent water and sand flow inrush disasters by eliminating the power source are put fore- word. A field dewatering scheme was designed and observational data were obtained. The dewatering project had an obvious effect and the water level at working face number 8309 dropped to a safe level. The average draw down of the groundwater was observed to be 7.86 m. | 17 | Export and remineralization of POM in the Southern Ocean and the South China Sea estimated from ^(210)Po/^(210)Pb disequilibria显示文摘Disequilibria between 210Po and 210Pb in the upper water and their potential applications as a proxy of particle export and remineralization were examined in the Southern Ocean (station IV3) and the South China Sea (NS44). 210Po was deficit in surface waters but excessive relative to 210Pb in subsurface waters. Good positive correlation between 210Po and particulate organic carbon (POC) indicated deficits and excess of 210Po resulted from particulate organic matter (POM) export and remineralization respectively, which was also supported by the decreased δ 13C and increased δ 15N downwards as a result of particle remineralization. On the basis of 210Po/210Pb box-model, POC export flux out of the surface waters were 1.2 mmol C·m-2·d-1 and 2.3 mmol C·m-2·d-1 for station NS44 and IV3, respectively. In the subsurface waters, remineralization fluxes of 210Po were 0.062 Bq·m-2·d-1 and 0.566 Bq·m-2·d-1 for station NS44 and IV3 along with the recycle efficiency of 52±26% and 119±52%, respectively. Remineralized fluxes of POM derived from 210Po and exported POC were 0.6 mmol C·m-2·d-1 and 2.7 mmol C·m-2·d-1 for NS44 and IV3. The purpose of this paper is to provide a broad overview of the recent development of key aspects in the ED process involving conceptual design, solvent selection, and separation strategies. To obtain the minimum entrainer feed flow rate and reflux ratio for the ED process, the conceptual design of azeotropic mixture separation based on a topological analysis via thermodynamic feasibility insights involving residue curve maps, univolatility lines, and unidistribution curves is presented. The method is applicable to arbitrary multicomponent mixtures and allows direct screening of design alternatives. The determination of a suitable solvent is one of the key steps to ensure an effective and economical ED process. Candidate entrainers can be obtained from heuristics or literature studies while computer aided molecular design(CAMD) has superiority in efficiency and reliability. To achieve optimized extractive distillation systems, a brief review of evaluation method for both entrainer design and selection through CAMD is presented. Extractive distillation can be operated either in continuous extractive distillation(CED) or batch extractive distillation(BED), and both modes have been well-studied depending on the advantages in flexibility and low capital costs. To improve the energy efficiency, several configurations and technological alternatives can be used for both CED and BED depending on strategies and main azeotropic feeds. | 19 | Disequilibria between ^(210)Po and ^(210)Pb in surface waters of the southern South China Sea and their implications显示文摘Activities of the naturally occurring radionuclides, 210Pb and 210Po, were measured in both dissolved (<0.45 μm) and particulate (>0.45 μm) phases from surface waters of the southern South China Sea. The average activity of particulate 210Pb, 0.23 Bq/m3 (n=23), accounted for about 12% of the total 210Pb, which corresponds with values of open oceans. Particulate 210Po, with an av-erage activity of 0.43 Bq/m3, accounted for about 40% of the total 210Po, which was much higher than those of open and eutrophic oceans. The residence times of total 210Po and 210Pb in surface waters estimated from an irreversible steady-state model were 0.82 a and 1.16 a, respectively. The consis-tently high fractionation factor calculated either by scavenging rate constants (5.42) or Kd values (6.69) suggested that a significant fractionation occurred between 210Po and 210Pb during their removal from solution to particles and that the two radionuclides had different biogeochemical cycling pathways in the oligotrophic South China Sea. Furthermore, our results indicated that there exist different frac-tionation mechanisms between 210Po and 210Pb in different marine environments: in eutrophic ocean, plankton detritus and fecal pellets are the main carrier of 210Po and 210Pb, by which 210Po and 210Pb have been scavenged and removed; while in oligotrophic ocean, microbes could become the main carrier of 210Po and fractionate 210Po and 210Pb significantly as a result of scarce plankton detritus and fecal pellets.
