| 1 | Antioxidative mechanism of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides promotes repair and regeneration following cavernous nerve injury显示文摘Polysaccharides extracted from Lycium barbarum exhibit antioxidant properties.We hypothesized that these polysaccharides resist oxidative stress-induced neuronal damage following cavernous nerve injury.In this study,rat models were intragastrically administered Lycium barbarum polysaccharides for 2 weeks at 1,7,and 14 days after cavernous nerve injury.Serum superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities significantly increased at 1 and 2 weeks post-injury.Serum malondialdehyde levels decreased at 2 and 4 weeks.At 12 weeks,peak intracavernous pressure,the number of myelinated axons and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-diaphorase-positive nerve fibers,levels of phospho-endothelial nitric oxide synthase protein and 3-nitrotyrosine were higher in rats administered at 1 day post-injury compared with rats administered at 7 and 14 days post-injury.These findings suggest that application of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides following cavernous nerve crush injury effectively promotes nerve regeneration and erectile functional recovery.This neuroregenerative effect was most effective in rats orally administered Lycium barbarum polysaccharides at 1 day after cavernous nerve crush injury. | Zhan-kui Zhao Hong-lian Yu Bo Liu Hui Wang Qiong Luo Xie-gang Ding | 2016 | Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,8: | 25 |

| 8 | Pyrroloquinoline quinone promotes mitochondrial biogenesis in rotenone-induced Parkinson’s disease model via AMPK activation显示文摘Mitochondrial dysfunction is considered to be one of the important pathogenesis in Parkinson’s disease (PD). We previously showed that pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) could protect SH-SY5Y cells and dopaminergic neurons from cytotoxicity and prevent mitochondrial dysfunction in rotenone-induced PD models. In the present study we investigated the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of PQQ in a mouse PD model, which was established by intraperitoneal injection of rotenone (3 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1), ip) for 3 weeks. Meanwhile the mice were treated with PQQ (0.8, 4, 20 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1), ip) right after rotenone injection for 3 weeks. We showed that PQQ treatment dose-dependently alleviated the locomotor deficits and nigral dopaminergic neuron loss in PD mice. Furthermore, PQQ treatment significantly diminished the reduction of mitochondria number and their pathological change in the midbrain. PQQ dose-dependently blocked rotenone-caused reduction in the expression of PGC-1α and TFAM, two key activators of mitochondrial gene transcription, in the midbrain. In rotenone-injured human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, PTMScan Direct analysis revealed that treatment with PQQ (100 μM) differentially regulated protein phosphorylation;the differentially expressed phosphorylated proteins included the signaling pathways related with adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway. We conducted Western blot analysis and confirmed that AMPK was activated by PQQ both in PD mice and in rotenone-injured SH-SY5Y cells. Pretreatment with AMPK inhibitor dorsomorphin (4 μM) significantly attenuated the protective effect and mitochondrial biogenesis by PQQ treatment in rotenone-injured SH-SY5Y cells. | 10 | The Achyranthes bidentata polypeptide k fraction enhances neuronal growth in vitro and promotes peripheral nerve regeneration after crush injury in vivo显示文摘We have previously shown that Achyranthes bidentata polypeptides(ABPP), isolated from Achyranthes bidentata Blume(a medicinal herb), exhibit neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects on the nervous system. To identify the major active component of ABPP, and thus optimize the use of ABPP, we used reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography to separate ABPP. We obtained 12 fractions, among which the fraction of ABPPk demonstrated the strongest neuroactivity. Immunocytochemistry and western blot analysis showed that ABPPk promoted neurite growth in cultured dorsal root ganglion explant and dorsal root ganglion neurons, which might be associated with activation of Erk1/2. A combination of behavioral tests, electrophysiological assessment, and histomorphometric analysis indicated that ABPPk enhanced nerve regeneration and function restoration in a mouse model of crushed sciatic nerve. | 11 | Mitochondrial localization of ORF346 causes pollen abortion in alloplasmic male sterility显示文摘The Nsa cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS) system confers stable male sterility and offers great potential for production of hybrid seeds in oilseed rape. However, genes responsible for male sterility in Nsa CMS have not been identified. By mitochondrial genome sequencing of Nsa CMS and its maintainer line,we identified in an Nsa CMS line several chimeric genes encoding hypothetical proteins harboring transmembrane domains. One novel chimeric gene orf346 showed high identity with cox1 at the 50 terminal region and was co-transcribed with nad3 and rps12 genes. Transgenic plants of orf346 fused with or without mitochondrial targeting peptide conferred complete male sterility in Arabidopsis. ORF346 was mitochondrion-localized. Expression of orf346 in Escherichia coli inhibited bacterial growth, with excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species and decreased ATP content. These results reveal a link between the newly identified mitochondrial gene orf346 and the abortion of Nsa CMS. | 14 | Clinical features of dementia with lewy bodies in 35 Chinese patients显示文摘Objective:To investigate the clinical features of dementia with Lewy bodies(DLB)in a Chinese population.Methods:Computer-based online searches through China Biology Medicine disc and China National Knowledge Infrastructure were performed to collect case reports of DLB published between 1980 and 2012.Clinical characteristics were analyzed.Results:A total of 18 studies comprising 35 patients(26 males and 9 females)were included.The mean age at onset was 67.2±9.8 years.Onset was characterized by memory impairment and accounted for 58.8%of all cases,followed by parkinsonism(11.8%),visual hallucinations(8.8%),and compulsive personality disorder(2.9%).The other patients(17.6%)presented two of the three core features of DLB at onset.With disease progression,parkinsonism was reported in 100%of cases,followed by visual hallucinations(97.1%),psychiatric symptoms(85.7%),severe neuroleptic sensitivity(81.8%),fluctuating cognition(68.6%),repeated falls(40.0%),sleep disorders(22.9%),and transient loss of consciousness(17.1%).26 patients who were subjected to Mini-Mental State Examination scored≤24.10 patients presented relative preservation of hippocampus and medial temporal lobe structures on CT/MRI scan.Occipital hypometabolism occurred in 2 of 3 patients who underwent SPECT/PET perfusion scan.12 patients showed an increasing of slow frequency activity on EEG,prominently in frontal and temporal lobes.Conclusions:DLB often strikes elderly individuals.Its clinical core features are dementia,fluctuating cognition,recurrent visual hallucinations and spontaneous features of parkinsonism.Neuropsychological,neuroimaging and EEG examinations may improve the diagnostic accuracy and discriminate DLB from other dementias. | Ding Han Qiong Wang Zhongbao Gao Tong Chen Zhenfu Wang | 2014 | Translational Neurodegeneration2014,3,1: | 2 |
| 15 | Two novel terpyridine-based chromophores with donor-acceptor structural model containing modified triphenylamine moiety: Synthesis, crystal structures and two-photon absorption properties显示文摘Two novel terpyridine-based chromophores with D-A (D = donor, A = acceptor) structural model containing modified triphenylamine moiety (L1 and L2 ) have been conveniently synthesized via formylation and reduction in satisfactory yields, and fully characterized. The single crystals of them were obtained and determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The relationships between structure and photophysical properties of the two chromophores were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The measured maximum TPA cross-sections per molecular weight (δmax /MW) of the chromophores are 0.63 GM/(g mol) (L1) and 0.72 GM/(g mol) (L2), respectively, in DMF as a high polar solvent. | 16 | Highly aligned lithiophilic electrospun nanofiber membrane for the multiscale suppression of Li dendrite growth显示文摘Using inorganic fibrous membranes as protective layers has yielded success in suppressing dendrite growth.However,conventional fibrous membranes usually have large voids and low affinity for Li,promoting inhomogeneous charge distribution and allowing some dendrites to grow.Herein,we introduce a highly aligned TiO_(2)/SiO_(2)(A-TS)electrospun nanofiber membrane as a protective layer for the Li metal anode.The A-TS membrane is fabricated by a custom-made electrospinning system with an automatic fiber alignment collector that allows control of the fibers’orientation.At the scale of the individual fibers,their high binding energies with Li can attract more“dead”Li by reacting with the SiO_(2) component of the composite,avoiding uncontrollable deposition on the metal anode.At the membrane scale,these highly ordered structures achieve homogeneous contact and charge distribution on the Li metal surface,leaving no vulnerable areas to nucleate dendrite formation.Additionally,the excellent mechanical and thermal stability properties of the A-TS membrane prevent any potential puncturing by dendrites or thermal runaway in a battery.Hence,an A-TS@Li anode exhibits stable cycling performance when used in both Li-S and Li-NCM811 batteries,highlighting significant reference values for the future design and development of high-energy-density metal-based battery systems. | Jianan Wang Qianyue Ma Shiyi Sun Kai Yang Qiong Cai Emilia Olsson Xin Chen Ze Wang Amr MAbdelkader Yinshi Li Wei Yan Shujiang Ding Kai Xi | 2022 | eScience2022,2,6: | 2 |
