| 4 | Spin-decoupled metasurface for simultaneous detection of spin and orbital angular momenta via momentum transformation显示文摘With inherent orthogonality,both the spin angular momentum(SAM)and orbital angular momentum(OAM)of photons have been utilized to expand the dimensions of quantum information,optical communications,and information processing,wherein simultaneous detection of SAMs and OAMs with a single element and a single-shot measurement is highly anticipated.Here,a single azimuthal-quadratic phase metasurface-based photonic momentum transformation(PMT)is illustrated and utilized for vortex recognition.Since different vortices are converted into focusing patterns with distinct azimuthal coordinates on a transverse plane through PMT,OAMs within a large mode space can be determined through a single-shot measurement.Moreover,spin-controlled dual-functional PMTs are proposed for simultaneous SAM and OAM sorting,which is implemented by a single spin-decoupled metasurface that merges both the geometric phase and dynamic phase.Interestingly,our proposed method can detect vectorial vortices with both phase and polarization singularities,as well as superimposed vortices with a certain interval step.Experimental results obtained at several wavelengths in the visible band exhibit good agreement with the numerical modeling.With the merits of ultracompact device size,simple optical configuration,and prominent vortex recognition ability,our approach may underpin the development of integrated and high-dimensional optical and quantum systems. | Yinghui Guo Shicong Zhang Mingbo Pu Qiong He Jinjin Jin Mingfeng Xu Yaxin Zhang Ping Gao Xiangang Luo | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4: | 14 |
| 5 | Comorbidity Burden of Dementia:A Hospital-Based Retrospective Study from 2003 to 2012 in Seven Cities in China显示文摘Dementia is increasing dramatically and imposes a huge burden on society. To date, there is a lack of data on the health status of patients with dementia in China. In an attempt to investigate the comorbidity burden of dementia patients in China at the national level, we enrolled 2,938 patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD), vascular dementia(Va D), or other types of dementia, who were admitted to tertiary hospitals in seven regions of China from January2003 to December 2012. The Charlson Comorbidity Index(CCI) was used to evaluate the comorbidity burden of the patients with dementia. Among these patients, 53.4% had AD, 26.3% had Va D, and 20.3% had other types of dementia. The CCI was 3.0 ± 1.9 for all patients,3.4 ± 1.8 for those with Va D, and 3.0 ± 2.1 for those with AD. The CCI increased with age in all patients, andthe length of hospital stay and daily expenses rose with age and CCI. Males had a higher CCI and a longer stay than females. Moreover, patients admitted in the last 5 years of the study had a higher CCI than those admitted in the first 5 years. We found that the comorbidity burden of patients with dementia is heavy. | 7 | Fisetin mitigates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury by regulating GSK3β/AMPK/NLRP3 inflammasome pathway显示文摘Background: Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) injury(IRI) represents a crucial challenge in liver transplantation. Fisetin has anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and anti-oxidative properties. This study aimed to examine whether fisetin mitigates hepatic IRI and examine its underlying mechanisms. Methods: Sham or warm hepatic I/R operated mice were pretreated with fisetin(5, 10 or 20 mg/kg). Hepatic histological assessments, TUNEL assays and serum aminotransferase measurements were performed. An in vitro hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R) model using RAW264.7 macrophages pretreated with fisetin(2.5, 5 or 10 μmol/L) was also used. Serum and cell supernatant concentrations of interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β), IL-18 and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Protein levels of p-GSK3 β, p-AMPK and NLR family pyrin domain-containing 3(NLRP3)-associated proteins were detected by Western blotting. Results: Compared with the I/R group, fisetin pretreatment reduced pathological liver damage, serum aminotransferase levels, serum concentrations of IL-1 β, IL-18 and TNF-α in the murine IRI model. Fisetin also reduced the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome-associated proteins(NLRP3, cleaved caspase-1, IL-1 β and IL-18) in I/R-operated liver. The experiments in vitro showed that fisetin decreased the release of IL-1 β, IL-18 and TNF-α, and reduced the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome-associated proteins in H/R-treated RAW264.7 cells. Moreover, fisetin increased the expressions of p-GSK3 β and p-AMPK in both models, indicating that its anti-inflammatory effects were dependent on GSK3 β/AMPK signaling. The antiinflammatory effects of fisetin were partially inhibited by the AMPK specific inhibitor compound C. | 10 | Spatial Pattern Evolution and Casual Analysis of County Level Economy in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration, China显示文摘In order to evaluate whether or not the county units′ economy in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan(Chang-Zhu-Tan) Urban Agglomeration was growing as expected, this study analyzed the spatial economy pattern at county-level by using the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA) method. In this process, the global Moran′s I and local Getis-Ord G*i indexes were employed to analyze indicators including per capita GDP and three industrials(i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary industry) from 2000 to 2010. The results show that: 1) the county units′ economy in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration has exhibited a strong spatial autocorrelation and an accelerated integration trend since 2008(Moran′ s I increased from 0.26 to 0.56); 2) there is a significant difference in economy development between the northern and southern county units in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration: the hotspot zone with high economic level was formed among the northern county units whereas the coldspot zone with low economic level was located in the southern areas. | 13 | Protonation induced high-T_c phases in iron-based superconductors evidenced by NMR and magnetization measurements显示文摘Chemical substitution during growth is a well-established method to manipulate electronic states of quantum materials, and leads to rich spectra of phase diagrams in cuprate and iron-based superconductors. Here we report a novel and generic strategy to achieve nonvolatile electron doping in series of(i.e.11 and 122 structures) Fe-based superconductors by ionic liquid gating induced protonation at room temperature. Accumulation of protons in bulk compounds induces superconductivity in the parent compounds, and enhances the Tclargely in some superconducting ones. Furthermore, the existence of proton in the lattice enables the first proton nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) study to probe directly superconductivity. Using Fe S as a model system, our NMR study reveals an emergent high-Tcphase with no coherence peak which is hard to measure by NMR with other isotopes. | 17 | Effects of clonal integration and nitrogen supply on responses of a clonal plant to short-term herbivory显示文摘Aims Clonal integration,i.e.resource sharing between interconnected ramets,can help clonal plants tolerate abiotic stress.However,few studies have directly examined the ecological significance of clonal integration in the ability of clonal plants to tolerate biotic stress such as herbivory.Methods We grew clonal fragments of an invasive clonal plant Alternanthera philoxeroides,each consisting of an apical part(relatively young)and a basal part(relatively old),at two levels(low and high)of soil nitrogen(N).For each fragment,the apical part was subjected to either no herbivory or herbivory for 2 weeks by a specialist insect,Agasicles hygrophila,and was either connected with or discon-nected from the basal part not subjected to herbivory.Important Findings Herbivory in the apical part severely reduced leaf growth(leaf mass,leaf number or leaf area)and ramet production of both apical and basal parts,and increased root to shoot ratio of the apical part.Irrespective of herbivory and soil N,stem connection between the apical and the basal part decreased root to shoot ratio of the ap-ical part,but did not change its growth measures.Meanwhile,con-nection increased stem N concentration of the apical part growing under high-N supply and decreased stem carbon(C)concentration of the apical part under low-N supply.By contrast,connection in-creased root to shoot ratio of the basal part,but reduced its leaf and ramet production.Connection also increased leaf and stem C concentrations of the basal part under low-N supply.Thus,clonal integration can be beneficial for the early development of young A.philoxeroides ramets,but not for their local adaptation to herbivory damage by A.hygrophila. | Bi-Cheng Dong Li-Min Zhang Kai-Yu Li Xiao-Ting Hu Pu Wang Yong-Jian Wang Fang-Li Luo Hong-Li Li Fei-Hai Yu | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,4: | 6 |
| 18 | All‐metallic wide‐angle metasurfaces for multifunctional polarization manipulation显示文摘Optical camouflage is a magical capability of animals as first noticed in 1794 by Erasmus Darwin in Zoonomia,but current biomimetic camouflage strategies cannot be readily applied in complex environments involving multispectral and in particular multi-polarization detection.Here we develop a plasmonic approach toward broadband infrared polarimetric crypsis,where the polarized thermal emission near the pseudo-Brewster angle is the main signal source and no existing polarizing camouflage technique has been discovered in nature.Based on all-metallic subwavelength structures,an electrodynamic resistance-reduction mechanism is proposed to avoid the significant polarization-dependent infrared absorption/radiation.It is also found that the structured metal surface presents giant extrinsic anisotropy regarding the phase shift between orthogonal polarization states,which helps to realize ultrahigh-efficiency and tunable polarization conversion in an unprecedented manner.Finally,we note that the catenary optical theory may provide a useful means to explain and predict these unusual performances. | Xiaoliang Ma Mingbo Pu Xiong Li Yinghui Guo Xiangang Luo | 2019 | Opto-Electronic Advances2019,2,3: | 6 |
| 19 | Boosting proso millet yield by altering canopy light distribution in proso millet/mung bean intercropping systems显示文摘To elucidate the mechanism by which intercropping proso millet(Panicum miliaceum L.)with mung bean(Vigna radiata L.)increases proso millet yield and to determine how this higher yield results from maximization of resources use efficiency,we designed and conducted four strip intercropping row arrangements,including two rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(2P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(4P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(4P4M),two rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(2P4M),sole proso millet(SP,control)and sole mung bean(SM,control)in Yulin,Shaanxi,China.Photosynthetically active radiation(PAR)in the canopy,radiation use efficiency(RUE),leaf photosynthetic characteristics,dry matter accumulation and allocation,and yield of proso millet were investigated.The results showed that the intercropping systems had higher PAR than the monoculture.Mean PAR intensities were increased by respectively 2.2%–23.4%,19.8%–59.7%,and 61.2%–133.3%in the proso millet upper,middle and lower canopies compared with SP.The increase in PAR directly increased RUE,a result attributed mainly to the increase in photosynthetic capacity,including net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content.These responses resulted in increased dry matter allocation to plant organs.Yield of intercropped proso millet was 6.8%–37.3%higher than that under monoculture and the land equivalent ratios for the different intercropping patterns were all greater than unity(>1).In general,yield followed a positive linear function of PAR in the intercropping system.The results indicated that intercropping can boost proso millet yield,evidently by altering light distribution within its canopy and consequently increasing RUE,thereby increasing leaf photosynthetic capacity,dry matter accumulation,and allocation to the grain.The optimum combination for improving the growth and yield of proso millet on the Loess Plateau of China was 2P4M. | Xiangwei Gong Uzizerimana Ferdinand Ke Dang Jing Li Guanghua Chen Yan Luo Pu Yang Baili Feng | 2020 | The Crop Journal2020,8,2: | 6 |
| 20 | Progress and Strategies in Cross Breeding of Poplars in China显示文摘The advance in intrasection and intersection cross breeding of poplars in China over the past 50 years is reviewed. Great progress has been made in Sections Leuce and Aigeiros, and satisfactory results of intersection hybridization have been achieved in the crossing between Sections Tacamahaca and Aigeiros. The modes of hybridization include single cross, double cross, triple cross, backcross, etc. It is known that using hybrids as parents to cross with other species or hybrids is an effective and easy way to obtain heterosis. Fast growth, cold and drought tolerance, pest and disease resistance, narrow crowns and rootage, etc. are breeding goals. The conventional artificial crossing is still a major breeding method, and a combination of the conventional artificial crossing with physical radiation and chemical induction can create new triploid individuals that possess higher yield potential. The super clones cultivated have already displayed enormous socioeconomic and ecological benefits in practice.
