1Mitochondrial uncoupler BAM15 inhibits artery constriction and potently activates AMPK in vascular smooth muscle cells显示文摘Our previous studies found that mitochondrial uncouplers CCCP and niclosamide inhibited artery constriction and the mechanism involved AMPK activation in vascular smooth muscle cells. BAM15 is a novel type of mitochondrial uncoupler. The aim of the present study is to identify the vasoactivity of BAM15 and characterize the BAM15-induced AMPK activation in vascular smooth muscle cells(A10 cells). BAM15 relaxed phenylephrine(PE)-induced constricted rat mesenteric arteries with intact and denuded endothelium. Pretreatment with BAM15 inhibited PEinduced constriction of rat mesenteric arteries with intact and denuded endothelium. BAM15, CCCP,and niclosamide had the comparable IC50 value of vasorelaxation in PE-induced constriction of rat mesenteric arteries. BAM15 was less cytotoxic in A10 cells compared with CCCP and niclosamide.BAM15 depolarized mitochondrial membrane potential, induced mitochondrial fission, increased mitochondrial ROS production, and increased mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate in A10 cells.BAM15 potently activated AMPK in A10 cells and the efficacy of BAM15 was stronger than that of CCCP, niclosamide, and AMPK positive activators metformin and AICAR. In conclusion, BAM15 activates AMPK in vascular smooth muscle cells with higher potency than that of CCCP, niclosamide and the known AMPK activators metformin and AICAR. 2Feasibility analysis of SO_2 absorption using a hydrophilic ceramic membrane contactor显示文摘Hydrophilic ceramic membranes would be potential candidates for membrane gas absorption if they could be applied to appropriate separation processes.This study highlights a novel concept for the practical implementation of SO_2 absorption in hydrophilic ceramic membrane that exhibits outstanding thermal and mechanical stabilities.With this aim,we investigated experimentally the performance of SO_2 absorption into aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution in a hydrophilic alumina (Al_2O_3) membrane contactor in terms of SO_2 removal efficiency and SO_2 mass transfer flux,and compared the performance with that in a hydrophobic one.A series of experiments were performed at various conditions over a NaOH concentration range of 0–1.0 mol·L^(-1),a liquid flow rate range of 30–180 ml·min^(-1),a gas flow rate range of 120–1000 ml·min^(-1),an inlet SO_2 concentration range of 400–2000μl·L^(-1),and a temperature range of 10–35°C.It was found that the hydrophilic membrane was more competitive when using a NaOH concentration higher than 0.2 mol·L^(-1).Furthermore,it can be inferred that the hydrophilicα-Al_2O_3 membrane exhibited exceptional long-term stability under 480 h continuous operation.Xingyin Gao Minghui Qiu Kaiyun Fu Peng Xu Xiangli Kong Xianfu Chen Yiqun Fan 2018Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,10:4

4Toward an Ecological Civilization:China’s Progress as Documented by the Second National General Survey of Pollution Sources显示文摘The relationship between environmental quality and economic growth has been a hot topic for decades.After years of rapid industrialization and urbanization,China’s environmental challenges are approaching a turning point.Following the principles of ecological civilization construction,China is on its way to maintaining high-quality and green economic development.On 10 June 2020,the Chinese Government reported the key findings of the Second National General Survey of Pollution Sources(fiscal year 2017),which provides strong quantitative evidence of progress toward ecological civilization.In terms of our comparison between the two National General Surveys in 2007 and 2017,it was found that environmental pollution,measured in terms of many wastewater and air emission pollutant discharges,is decreasing despite the steady growth in economic activities—and at a noticeably fast pace.Other national and local governments can adopt some of China’s ecological civilization practices,within their own individual contexts.Minghui Xie Huabo Duan Peng Kang Qi Qiao Lu Bai 2021Engineering2021,7,9:2
5Feedback control can make data structure layout randomization more cost-effective under zero-day attacks显示文摘In the wake of the research community gaining deep understanding about control-hijacking attacks,data-oriented attacks have emerged.Among data-oriented attacks,data structure manipulation attack(DSMA)is a major category.Pioneering research was conducted and shows that DSMA is able to circumvent the most effective defenses against control-hijacking attacks-DEP,ASLR and CFI.Up to this day,only two defense techniques have demonstrated their effectiveness:Data Flow Integrity(DFI)and Data Structure Layout Randomization(DSLR).However,DFI has high performance overhead,and dynamic DSLR has two main limitations.L-1:Randomizing a large set of data structures will significantly affect the performance.L-2:To be practical,only a fixed sub-set of data structures are randomized.In the case that the data structures targeted by an attack are not covered,dynamic DSLR is essentially noneffective.To address these two limitations,we propose a novel technique,feedback-control-based adaptive DSLR and build a system named SALADSPlus.SALADSPlus seeks to optimize the trade-off between security and cost through feedback control.Using a novel feedback-control-based adaptive algorithm extended from the Upper Confidence Bound(UCB)algorithm,the defender(controller)uses the feedbacks(cost-effectiveness)from previous randomization cycles to adaptively choose the set of data structures to randomize(the next action).Different from dynamic DSLR,the set of randomized data structures are adaptively changed based on the feedbacks.To obtain the feedbacks,SALADSPlus inserts canary in each data structure at the time of compilation.We have implemented SALADSPlus based on gcc-4.5.0.Experimental results show that the runtime overheads are 1.8%,3.7%,and 5.3% when the randomization cycles are selected as 10s,5s,and 1s respectively.Ping Chen Zhisheng Hu Jun Xu Minghui Zhu Peng Liu 2018Cybersecurity2018,1,1:2
6Secure and Efficient Data Storage and Sharing Scheme Based on Double Blockchain显示文摘In the digital era,electronic medical record(EMR)has been a major way for hospitals to store patients’medical data.The traditional centralized medical system and semi-trusted cloud storage are difficult to achieve dynamic balance between privacy protection and data sharing.The storage capacity of blockchain is limited and single blockchain schemes have poor scalability and low throughput.To address these issues,we propose a secure and efficient medical data storage and sharing scheme based on double blockchain.In our scheme,we encrypt the original EMR and store it in the cloud.The storage blockchain stores the index of the complete EMR,and the shared blockchain stores the index of the shared part of the EMR.Users with different attributes can make requests to different blockchains to share different parts according to their own permissions.Through experiments,it was found that cloud storage combined with blockchain not only solved the problem of limited storage capacity of blockchain,but also greatly reduced the risk of leakage of the original EMR.Content Extraction Signature(CES)combined with the double blockchain technology realized the separation of the privacy part and the shared part of the original EMR.The symmetric encryption technology combined with Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption(CP–ABE)not only ensures the safe storage of data in the cloud,but also achieves the consistency and convenience of data update,avoiding redundant backup of data.Safety analysis and performance analysis verified the feasibility and effectiveness of our scheme.Lejun Zhang Minghui Peng Weizheng Wang Yansen Su Shuna Cui Seokhoon Kim 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,1:1

9The evolving concept of physiological ischemia training vs. ischemia preconditioning显示文摘Ischemic heart diseases are the leading cause of death with increasing numbers of patients worldwide.Despite advances in revascularization techniques,angiogenic therapies remain highly attractive.Physiological ischemia training,which is first proposed in our laboratory,refers to reversible ischemia training of normal skeletal muscles by using a tourniquet or isometric contraction to cause physiologic ischemia for about 4 weeks for the sake of triggering molecular and cellular mechanisms to promote angiogenesis and formation of collateral vessels and protect remote ischemia areas.Physiological ischemia training therapy augments angiogenesis in the ischemic myocardium by inducing differential expression of proteins involved in energy metabolism,cell migration,protein folding,and generation.It upregulates the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor,and induces angiogenesis,protects the myocardium when infarction occurs by increasing circulating endothelial progenitor cells and enhancing their migration,which is in accordance with physical training in heart disease rehabilitation.These findings may lead to a new approach of therapeutic angiogenesis for patients with ischemic heart diseases.On the basis of the promising results in animal studies,studies were also conducted in patients with coronary artery disease without any adverse effect in vivo,indicating that physiological ischemia training therapy is a safe,effective and non-invasive angiogenic approach for cardiovascular rehabilitation.Preconditioning is considered to be the most protective intervention against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury to date.Physiological ischemia training is different from preconditioning.This review summarizes the preclinical and clinical data of physiological ischemia training and its difference from preconditioning.Jun Ni Hongjian Lu Xiao Lu Minghui Jiang Qingyun Peng Caili Ren Jie Xiang Chengyao Mei Jianan Li 2015The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,6:1
10Laboratory Diagnosis and Monitoring the Viral Shedding of SARS-CoV-2 Infection显示文摘The worldwide epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is ongoing.Rapid and accurate detection of the causative virus SARSCoV-2 is vital for the treatment and control of COVID-19.In this study,the comparative sensitivity of different respiratory specimen types were retrospectively analyzed using 3,552 clinical samples from 410 COVID-19 patients confirmed by Guangdong CDC(Center for Disease Control and Prevention).Except for bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF),the sputum possessed the highest positive rate(73.4%–87.5%),followed by nasal swabs(53.1%–85.3%)for both severe and mild cases during the first 14 days after illness onset(d.a.o.).Viral RNA could be detected in all BALF samples collected from the severe group within 14 d.a.o.and lasted up to 46 d.a.o.Moreover,although viral RNA was negative in the upper respiratory samples,it was also positive in BALF samples in most cases from the severe group during treatment.Notably,no viral RNA was detected in BALF samples from the mild group.Despite typical ground-glass opacity observed via computed tomographic scans,no viral RNA was detected in the first three or all upper respiratory tract specimens from some COVID-19 patients.In conclusion,sputum is most sensitive for routine laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19,followed by nasal swabs.Detection of viral RNA in BALF improves diagnostic accuracy in severe COVID-19 patients.Yang Yang Minghui Yang Jing Yuan Fuxiang Wang Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Mingxia Zhang Jinli Wei Ling Peng Gary Wong Haixia Zheng Weibo Wu Chenguang Shen Mingfeng Liao Kai Feng Jianming Li Qianting Yang Juanjuan Zhao Lei Liu Yingxia Liu 2020The Innovation2020,1,3:1

12Solvothermal preparation of Mn-based catalysts for simultaneous removal of 1,2-dichlorobenzene and furan显示文摘In this study,Mn-based bimetallic oxide catalysts were synthesized via the solvothermal method.Different metals(Ce,Co and Fe)exhibited a great impact on the physicochemical properties of catalysts,resulting in different catalytic activities for the simultaneous removal of 1,2-dichlorobenzene(1,2-DCB)and furan,as a model of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzo-furans(PCDD/Fs).Fe–MnOx presented the best catalytic activity,with a removal efficiency of 62%for 1,2-DCB and 100%for furan at 240℃.Several analytical techniques were employed,namely,Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),H_(2)temperature-programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR),and ammonia temperature programmed desorption(NH_(3)-TPD).Compared with pure MnOx catalysts,Fe–MnOx shows a higher specific surface area of 117.9 m^(2)/g.SEM observations showed flower-like nanosheet structures for Fe–MnOx.XPS analysis indicated that Mn^(4+)/Mn^(3+)and active oxygen play the key roles in the catalytic oxidation of 1,2-DCB and furan.The catalytic activity,selectivity and stability of Mn-based bimetallic oxide catalysts for the oxidation of 1,2-DCB and furan were tested.Competition exists between 1,2-DCB and furan such that the adsorption of furan occurs prior to 1,2-DCB.Juan Qiu Yaqi Peng Minghui Tang Shengyong Lu Xiaodong Li Jianhua Yan 2022Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2022,4,2:1
13Improved performance and prolonged lifetime of titania-based materials: sequential use as adsorbent and photocatalyst显示文摘Lifetime is a key index in the evaluation of environmentally functional materials. Although it is well known that adsorption is the first step in photocatalysis, very little work has been done on the sequential use of materials as both adsorbents and photocatalysts. In this work, two titania-based materials, Ti O2 xerogel and Ti O2 photocatalyst nanoparticles, were fabricated and evaluated as adsorbent and photocatalyst for the remediation of contaminated water with an azo dye, Acid Orange 7(AO7), as the modeling pollutant. The Ti O2 xerogel showed a high adsorption capacity to AO7(769 mg/g) and could be regenerated easily with diluted Na OH solution(0.01 mol/L) for several cycles. The exhausted xerogel was calcined at 400 °C for 3 h and used as a photocatalyst for the degradation of AO7. Compared to the nanoparticles directly prepared from fresh Ti O2 xerogel, the Ti O2 nanoparticles from adsorption exhausted xerogel showed a much higher photocatalytic activity upon both UV and visible light irradiation. 14Perioperative risk factors for delayed gastric emptying after pancreaticoduodenectomy:a meta-analysis of the complications显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the correlation between the incidence of delayed gastric emptying(DGE)in pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)and the perioperative possible risk factors.Methods:We searched PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,and Medline for studies describing complications related to PD from 2018 to 2022.Statistical analysis was performed using Stata/SE16.0 software.Results:In 6 retrospective studies,1 systematic review,and 1 randomized controlled trial(RCT)experiment,12,419 patients(2174 and 10,245 patients,respectively,in DGE and no delayed gastric emptying[NDGE]groups).The preoperative American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)score between DGE and NDGE groups(log odds ratio[OR]=0.23,95%credible interval[CI]:0.11-0.35,P<.01),operation time(mean diff.=21.87,95%CI:15.96-27.78,P<.01),estimated intraoperative blood loss(EIBL;mean diff.=70.67,95%CI:17.75-123.58,P<.05),postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)(log OR=0.85,95%CI:0.24-1.46,P<.05)were statistically significant.No significant differences in preoperative body mass index(BMI),preoperative biliary drain-age,and pancreatic texture were observed(P>.05).Conclusion:The incidence of DGE is significantly correlated with the operation time,preoperative ASA score,POPF,and EIBL,which suggests that the surgeon should thoroughly evaluate the patient through adequate preoperative examination before the operation.Finally,standardized practice and perfect technology are undoubtedly necessary to reduce complications.Xiaowei Deng Ting Niu Zhaolong Han Xing Liang Zhiping Fu Liang Tang Guang Yang Judong Li An’an Liu Junfeng Peng Minghui Zheng Chenghao Shao 2023Journal of Pancreatology2023,6,2:0
15GATA2^(−/−) human ESCs undergo attenuatedendothelial to hematopoietic transition andthereafter granulocyte commitment显示文摘Background: Hematopoiesis is a progressive process collectively controlled by an elaborate network of transcriptionfactors (TFs). Among these TFs, GATA2 has been implicated to be critical for regulating multiple steps of hematopoiesisin mouse models. However, whether similar function of GATA2 is conserved in human hematopoiesis, especially duringearly embryonic development stage, is largely unknown.Results: To examine the role of GATA2 in human background, we generated homozygous GATA2 knockout humanembryonic stem cells (GATA2^(−/−) hESCs) and analyzed their blood differentiation potential. Our results demonstratedthat GATA2^(−/−) hESCs displayed attenuated generation of CD34^(+)CD43^(+) hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs), due tothe impairment of endothelial to hematopoietic transition (EHT). Interestingly, GATA2^(−/−) hESCs retained the potentialto generate erythroblasts and macrophages, but never granulocytes. 18Pancreatic head cancer with gastrointestinal bleeding as the initial manifestation:a case report and literature review显示文摘Gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB)as the initial symptom is rare in patients with pancreatic cancer,which is prone to misdiagnosis and should be paid attention to by clinicians.Here,we present a patient with pancreatic head cancer whose first symptom was only severe upper gastrointestinal bleeding,which initially led to misdiagnosis.However,subsequent imaging revealed a mass in the pancreatic head which was considered a malignant tumor.After surgical resection,the pathology confirmed that the mass in the pancreatic head was pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,and the duodenal bulb’s full thickness was infiltrated.A literature review found that pancreatic cancer can present gastrointestinal bleeding by invading the digestive tract and blood vessels,left-sided portal hypertension(LSPH),digestive tract metastasis,and canceration of ectopic pancreatic tissue in the digestive tract.For these cases,clinicians should utilize multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment based on digestive endoscopy,imaging,interventional therapy,and surgery to control bleeding,identify etiology,and remove tumors.Minghui Zheng Zhiping Fu Ting Niu Anan Liu Danlei Chen Junfeng Peng Judong Li Zhiyuan Hao Qingyang Yu Zechao Lyu Chenghao Shao 2023Journal of Pancreatology2023,6,3:0
19Insight of chemical environmental risk and its management from the vinyl chloride accident显示文摘The combustion of vinyl chloride(VC)after the train derailment accident in Ohio,USA in February,2023 has caused widespread concern around the world.This paper tried to analyze several issues concerning the accident,including the appropriateness of the VC combustion in the emergency response in this accident,the meanings of so-called“controlled combustion”,the potential environmental risks caused by VC and combustion by-products,and follow-up work.In our view,this accident had surely caused environmental and health risks to some extent.Hence,a comprehensive environmental risk assessment is necessary,and then the site with risk should be comprehensively remediated,hazardous waste should be harmlessly treated as soon as possible.Finally,this accident suggests that further efforts should be taken to bridge the gap between chemical safety management and their environmental risk management.Bin Wang Liping Heng Qian Sui Zheng Peng Xuezhi Xiao Minghui Zheng Jianxin Hu Heidelore Fiedler DamiàBarceló Gang Yu 2023Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2023,17,4:0
