1Platinum drugs:from Pt(Ⅱ)compounds,Pt(Ⅳ)prodrugs,to Pt nanocrystals/nanoclusters显示文摘Platinum(Pt) based drugs, such as cisplatin, are widely used as anti-cancer agents, but their severe adverse reactions and resistance of cancer patients have limited their board clinical use. For the last few decades, Pt(Ⅱ) compounds, Pt(Ⅳ) prodrugs as well as smart drug delivery systems have been developed to overcome these problems. However, most conventional strategies rely on the similar anti-cancer mechanism with cisplatin and consequently only achieve limited success. Recently, Pt nanocrystals/nanoclusters(Pt NCs), with a brand new anti-cancer mechanism, have shown a promising potential in targeted cancer therapy, especially in Pt resistance circumvention. 2Degradation of direct azo dye by Cucurbita pepo free and immobilized peroxidase显示文摘Enzymatic decolourization of the azo dye,Direct Yellow(DY106) by Cucurbita pepo(courgette) peroxidase(CP) is a complex process,which is greatly affected by pH,temperature,enzyme activity and the concentrations of H2O2 and dye.Courgette peroxidase was extracted and its performance was evaluated by using the free-CP(FCP) and immobilized-CP(ICP) forms in the decolourization of DY106.Immobilization of peroxidase in calcium alginate beads was performed according to a strategy aiming to minimize enzyme leakage and keep its activity at a maximum value by optimizing sodium alginate content,enzyme loading and calcium chloride concentration.The initial conditions at which the highest DY106 decolourization yield was obtained were found at pH 2,temperature 20℃,H2O2 dose 1 mmol/L(FCP) and 100 mmol/L(ICP).The highest decolourization rates were obtained for dye concentrations 50 mg/L(FCP) and 80 mg/L(ICP).Under optimal conditions,the FCP was able to decolorize more than 87% of the dye within 2 min.While with ICP,the decolourization yield was 75% within 15 min.The decolourization and removal of DY106 was proved by UV-Vis analysis.Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy analysis was also performed on DY106 and enzymatic treatment precipitated byproduct.Nabila Boucherit Mahmoud Abouseoud Lydia Adour 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:3
3Phytochemical screening and free radical scavenging activity of Citrullus colocynthis seeds extracts显示文摘Objective:To study the phytochemical screening of different extracts from Citrullus colocynthis(C.colocynthis)seeds extracts and to assess their antioxidant activity on the DPPH free radical scavenging.Methods:Phytochemical screening,total content of polyphenols and flavonoids of C.colocynthis seeds extracts,including a crude aqueous extract(E1),a defatted aqueous extract(E2),a hydromethanolic extract(HM),an ethyl acetate extract(EA)and a n-butanol extract(n-B)was carried out according to the standard methods and to assess their corresponding effect on the antioxidant activity of this plant.Results:None of these extracts contained detectable amount of alkaloid,quinone,antraquinone,or reducing sugar.Catechic tannins and flavonoids were abundant in E1,MM and EA,whilst terpenoids were abundantly present in E1 and n-B but only weekly in HM.Coumarins were found in E2,EA and n-B.Polyphenols,expressed as gallic acid equivalent,amounted,per 100 g plant matter,to 329,1002 and 150 mg in EA,HM an E1 respectively.Flavonoids,expressed as catechin equivalent,amounted.per 100 g plant matter to 620,241 and 94 mg in EA,HM and E1 respectively.Comparable values were found in n-B and E1,with lower values in E2.Quercetin,myricetin and gallic acid were found in the EA and HM extracts by thin layer chromatography,The antioxidative effect of these extracts yielded,when tested at a concentration of 2000μg/mL in a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay,a reducing percentage of 88.8%with EA,74.5%with HM and 66.2%with E1,and corresponding IC_(50)of 350,580and 500μg/mL as compared to 1.1μg/mL for ascorbic acid.Conclusions:These qualitative and quantitative analytical data document the presence in C.colocynthis extracts of such chemical compounds as flavonoids responsible for the antioxidant activity,as well as other biological activities of this plant.Nabila Benariba Rabeh Djaziri Wafaa Bellakhdar Nacera Belkacem Marcel Kadiata Willy J.Malaisse Abdullah Sener 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,1:3
4Predictors of thirty-day readmission in nonagenarians presenting with acute heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: a nationwide analysis显示文摘BACKGROUD Acute heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF)is a common but poorly studied cause of hospital admissions among nonagenarians.This study aimed to evaluate predictors of thirty-day readmission,in-hospital mortality,length of stay,and hospital charges in nonagenarians hospitalized with acute HFpEF.METHODS Patients hospitalized between January 2016 and December 2018 with a primary diagnosis of diastolic heart failure were identified using ICD-10 within the Nationwide Readmission Database.We excluded patients who died in index admission,and discharged in December each year to allow thirty-day follow-up.Univariate regression was performed on each variable.Vari-ables with P-value<0.2 were included in the multivariate regression model.RESULTS From a total of 45,393 index admissions,43,646 patients(96.2%)survived to discharge.A total of 7,437 patients(15.6%)had a thirty-day readmission.Mean cost of readmission was 43,265 United States dollars(USD)per patient.Significant predictors of thirty-day readmission were chronic kidney disease stage III or higher[adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=1.20,95%CI:1.07−1.34,P=0.002]and diabetes mellitus(aOR=1.18,95%CI:1.07−1.29,P=0.001).Meanwhile,female(aOR=0.90,95%CI:0.82−0.99,P=0.028)and palliative care encounter(aOR=0.27,95%CI:0.21−0.34,P<0.001)were associated with lower odds of readmission.Cardiac arrhythmia(aOR=1.46,95%CI:1.11−1.93,P=0.007)and aortic stenosis(aOR=1.36,95%CI:1.05−1.76,P=0.020)were amongst predictors of in-hospital mortality.CONCLUSIONS In nonagenarians hospitalized with acute HFpEF,thirty-day readmission is common and costly.Chronic co-morbidities predict poor outcomes.Further strategies need to be developed to improve the quality of care and prevent the poor outcome in nonagenarians.Ahmed Maraey Mahmoud Salem Nabila Dawoud Mahmoud Khalil Ahmed Elzanaty Hadeer Elsharnoby Ahmed Younes Ahmed Hashim Amit Alam 2021Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2021,18,12:3
5Photoresponsive Supramolecular Hydrogel Co-assembled from Fmoc-Phe-OH and 4,4′-Azopyridine for Controllable Dye Release显示文摘Photoresponsive hydrogels have been attractive because they can provide precise spatial and temporal control for molecule release, whereas the conventional preparation of photoresponsive hydrogels generally involves complex chemical synthesis steps or specific conditions which limits their practical applications. Herein, a new photoresponsive hydrogel is facilely prepared via co-assembly of two simple molecules, Fmoc-Phe-OH and Azp, without chemical synthesis. The co-assembly mechanism, morphology, and photoresponsiveness of(Fmoc-Phe-OH)-Azp hydrogel are investigated by circular dichroism(CD), ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis), fluorescence, ~1 H nuclear magnetic resonance(~1 H-NMR), attenuated total internal reflection Fourier transform Infrared(ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Furthermore, the enhanced release of encapsulated sulforhodamine B(SRB) dye molecules can be achieved via UV light irradiation. The enhanced dye release amount can be controlled by manipulating photoirradiation time. 6Cytoprotective Effect of Silymarin against Diabetes-Induced Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis in Diabetic Rats显示文摘Objective The beneficial effects of silymarin have been extensively studied in the context of inflammation and cancer treatment, yet much less is known about its therapeutic effect on diabetes. The present study was aimed to investigate the cytoprotective activity of silymarin against diabetes-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Methods Rats were randomly divided into: control group, untreated diabetes group and diabetes group treated with silymarin(120 mg/kg·d) for 10 d. Rats were sacrificed, and the cardiac muscle specimens and blood samples were collected. The immunoreactivity of caspase-3 and Bcl-2 in the cardiomyocytes was measured. Total proteins, glucose, insulin, creatinine, AST, ALT, cholesterol, and triglycerides levels were estimated. Results Unlike the treated diabetes group, cardiomyocyte apoptosis increased in the untreated rats, as evidenced by enhanced caspase-3 and declined Bcl-2 activities. The levels of glucose, creatinine, AST, ALT, cholesterol, and triglycerides declined in the treated rats. The declined levels of insulin were enhanced again after treatment of diabetic rats with silymarin, reflecting a restoration of the pancreatic β-cells activity.
