| 1 | Review of surfactant-assisted chemical enhanced oil recovery for carbonate reservoirs: challenges and future perspectives显示文摘A significant fraction of the conventional oil reserves globally is in carbonate formations which contain a substantial amount of residual oil. Since primary and secondary recovery methods fail to yield above 20%–40%of original oil in place from these reserves, the need for enhanced oil recovery(EOR) techniques for incremental oil recovery has become imperative. With the challenges presented by the highly heterogeneous carbonate rocks,evaluation of tertiary-stage recovery techniques including chemical EOR(c EOR) has been a high priority for researchers and oil producers. In this review, the latest developments in the surfactant-based c EOR techniques applied in carbonate formations are discussed, contemplating the future direction of existing methodologies. In connection with this, the characteristics of heterogeneous carbonate reservoirs are outlined. Detailed discussion on surfactant-led oil recovery mechanisms and related processes, such as wettability alteration, interfacial tension reduction, microemulsion phase behavior, surfactant adsorption and mitigation, and foams and their applications is presented. | 10 | Effectiveness of in-office blood pressure measurement by eye care practitioners in early detection and management of hypertension显示文摘AIM: To investigate the number of hypertensive patients, the optometrist is able to identify by routinely taking blood pressure(BP) measurements for patients in 'at-risk' groups, and to sample patients' opinions regarding in-office BP measurement. Many of the optometrists in Saudi Arabia practice in optical stores.These stores are wide spread, easily accessible and seldom need appointments. The expanding role of the optometrist as a primary health care provider(PHCP) and the increasing global prevalence of hypertension,highlight the need for an integrated approach towards detecting and monitoring hypertension.METHODS: Automated BP measurements were made twice(during the same session) at five selected optometry practices using a validated BP monitor(Omron M6) to assess the number of patients with high BP(HBP)- in at-risk groups-visiting the eye clinic routinely. Prior to data collection, practitioners underwent a two-day training workshop by a cardiologist on hypertension and how to obtain accurate BP readings. A protocol for BP measurement was distributed and retained in all participating clinics. The general,,.,attitude towards cardiovascular health of 480 patients aged 37.2(±12.4)y and their opinion towards in-office BP measurement was assessed using a self-administered questionnaire.RESULTS: A response rate of 83.6% was obtained for the survey. Ninety-three of the 443 patients(21.0%)tested for BP in this study had HBP. Of these,(62subjects) 67.7% were unaware of their HBP status. Thirty of the 105 subjects(28.6%) who had previously been diagnosed with HBP, still had HBP at the time of this study, and only 22(73.3%) of these patients were on medication. Also, only 25% of the diagnosed hypertensive patients owned a BP monitor.CONCLUSION: Taking BP measurements in optometry practices, we were able to identify one previously undiagnosed patient with HBP for every 8 adults tested.We also identified 30 of 105 previously diagnosed patients whose BP was poorly controlled, twenty-two of whom were on medication. | 12 | “Don’t Mention It!”:A Pragmatic Perspective of Thanking Responses by Native Speakers of Jordanian Arabic显示文摘It is widely common to express thanking responses to thanks you receive for doing someone a favor.This study aims at studying thanking responses used by native speakers of Jordanian Arabic from a pragmatic perspective.The data of this study was collected through natural observation of the participants in real-life situations by the researcher and two other volunteers.A total number of 436 expressions were identified as thanking responses in the data,which were classified based on Chung’s classification of thanking responses.The study reveals that acceptance is the most frequent type of thanking responses,followed by denial.On the other hand,non-verbal gestures and no response were the least common types among the participants.Reciprocity was the fourth most frequent type preceded by comments,which occupied the third place.As far as the length of the thanking response is concerned,the study shows that the participants used simple and combined types of responses.The study provides some recommendations for future research. | Rafat M.Al Rousan | 2018 | US-China Foreign Language2018,16,5: | 0 |

| 17 | Oxidative degradation of sunflower oil blended with roasted sesame oil during heating at frying temperature显示文摘The efficacy of roasted sesame oil(SO)on the oxidation deterioration of sunflower oil(SFO)during heating was investigated.The concentrations of SO in the SFO were 0,10%,20%,and 30%by volume.The oxidation profile of oil samples was monitored by evaluating the generation of oxidation products and chemical alterations in the oils'composition during heating at frying temperature(180℃).The results showed that the oxidation parameters(free fatty acid,peroxide value,p-anisidine value,total oxidation status,thiobarbituric acid value,and color index)increased significantly in SFO compared to blends or SO during thermal treatment.During heating,the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA)was reduced with increased level of saturated fatty acids;these results were observed more in SFO than those of SO or blend oils.However,the presence of SO in SFO reduced the decomposition of PUFA.In Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,the peak intensities were significantly altered in SFO compared to the blend oils during heating.Based on the most analytical data,it may be agreed that the heating at frying temperature led to the generation of relatively higher contents of oxidative products in SFO compared to blend oils,showing a lower degree of oxidation occurred in blends.The best frying performance for the SFO was achieved by using 30%SO extracted from the roasted sesame seed.This study showed the proper blending of high polyunsaturated oil with SO can produce oil blends with high nutritional values and enhanced stability for daily cooking and deep-frying applications. | M.Al Amin M.Abbas Ali M.Shamsul Alam Aktarun Nahar Sook Chin Chew | 2023 | Grain & Oil Science and Technology2023,6,1: | 0 |
