1Progress in ENSO prediction and predictability study显示文摘ENSO is the strongest interannual signal in the global climate system with worldwide climatic, ecological and societal impacts. Over the past decades, the research about ENSO prediction and predictability has attracted broad attention. With the development of coupled models, the improvement in initialization schemes and the progress in theoretical studies, ENSO has become the most predictable climate mode at the time scales from months to seasons. This paper reviews in detail the progress in ENSO predictions and predictability studies achieved in recent years. An emphasis is placed on two fundamental issues: the improvement in practical prediction skills and progress in the theoretical study of the intrinsic predictability limit. 2Microbiologically influenced corrosion of titanium caused by aerobic marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa显示文摘Microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) is a big threat to the strength and safety of many metallic materials used in different environments throughout the world. The metabolites and bioactivity of the microorganisms cause severe deterioration on the metals. In this study, MIC of pure titanium(Ti) was studied in the presence of a highly corrosive aerobic marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results obtained from electrochemical test showed that Ti was corrosion resistant in the abiotic culture medium after 14 d, while the increased corrosion current density(i_(corr)) obtained from polarization curves and the decreased charge transfer resistance(R_(ct)) from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)indicated the accelerated corrosion of Ti caused by P. aeruginosa biofilm. For further confirmation of the above results, the surface of Ti was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). According to the XPS results, TiO_2 was formed in both abiotic and biotic conditions, while unstable oxide Ti_2O_3 was detected in the presence of P. aeruginosa, leading to the defects in the passive film and localized corrosion. Pitting corrosion was investigated with the help of CLSM, and the largest pit depth found on Ti surface immersed in P. aeruginosa was 1.2 μm. 4Variation of the Kuroshio intrusion pathways northeast of Taiwan using the Lagrangian method显示文摘The seasonal variations of the Kuroshio intrusion pathways northeast of Taiwan were investigated using observational data from satellite-tracked sea surface drifters and a numerical particle-tracking experiment based on a high-resolution numerical ocean model. The results of sea surface drifter data observed from 1989 to 2013 indicate that the Kuroshio surface intrusion follows two distinct pathways: one is a northwestward intrusion along the northern coast of Taiwan Island, and the other is a direct intrusion near the turn of the shelf break. The former occurs primarily in the winter, while the latter exists year round. A particle-tracking experiment in the high-resolution numerical model reproduces the two observed intrusion paths by the sea surface drifters. The three-dimensional structure of the Kuroshio intrusion is revealed by the model results. 5Effect of Cu Addition to 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel on the Resistance against Pitting Corrosion by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm显示文摘The effect of copper addition to 2205 duplex stainless steel(DSS) on its resistance against pitting corrosion by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm was investigated using electrochemical and surface analysis techniques. Cu addition decreased the general corrosion resistance, resulting in a higher general corrosion rate in the sterile medium. Because DSS usually has a very small general corrosion rate, its pitting corrosion resistance is far more important. In this work, it was shown that 2205-3%Cu DSS exhibited a much higher pitting corrosion resistance against the P. aeruginosa biofilm compared with the 2205 DSS control, characterized by no significant change in the pitting potential and critical pitting temperature(CPT) values. 6Enhanced resistance of 2205 Cu-bearing duplex stainless steel towards microbiologically influenced corrosion by marine aerobic Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms显示文摘An antibacterial 2205-Cu duplex stainless steel(DSS)was shown to inhibit the formation and growth of corrosive marine biofilms by direct contact with copper-rich phases and the release of Cu^(2+)ions from the2205-Cu DSS surface.In this work,the microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)resistance of 2205-Cu DSS in the presence of the corrosive marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated.The addition of copper improved the mechanical properties such as the yield strength,the tensile strength and the hardness of 2205 DSS.Electrochemical test results from linear polarization resistance(LPR),electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and critical pitting temperature(CPT)measurements showed that 2205-Cu DSS possessed a larger polarization resistance(R_p),charge transfer resistance(R_(ct))and CPT values,indicating the excellent MIC resistance of 2205-Cu DSS against the corrosive P.aeruginosa biofilm.The live/dead staining results and the SEM images of biofilm confirmed the strong antibacterial ability of 2205-Cu DSS.The largest pit depth of 2205-Cu DSS was considerably smaller than that of 2205 DSS after 14 d in the presence of P.aeruginosa(2.2μm vs 12.5μm).2205-Cu DSS possessed a superior MIC resistance to regular 2205 DSS in the presence of aerobic P.aeruginosa.Dake Xu Enze Zhou Ying Zhao Huabing Li Zhiyong Liu Dawei Zhang Chunguang Yang Hai Lin Xiaogang Li Ke Yang 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,8:4

8Bioactive extracellular matrix scaffolds engineered with proangiogenic proteoglycan mimetics and loaded with endothelial progenitor cells promote neovascularization and diabetic wound healing显示文摘Diabetic ischemic wound treatment remains a critical clinical challenge.Neovascularization plays a significant role in wound healing during all stages of the tissue repair process.Strategies that enhance angiogenesis and neovascularization and improve ischemic pathology may promote the healing of poor wounds,particularly diabetic wounds in highly ischemic conditions.We previously identified a cyclic peptide LXW7 that specifically binds to integrinαvβ3 on endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs)and endothelial cells(ECs),activates vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)receptors,and promotes EC growth and maturation.In this study,we designed and synthesized a multi-functional pro-angiogenic molecule by grafting LXW7 and collagen-binding peptides(SILY)to a dermatan sulfate(DS)glycosaminoglycan backbone,named LXW7-DS-SILY,and further employed this multi-functional molecule to functionalize collagen-based extracellular matrix(ECM)scaffolds.We confirmed that LXW7-DS-SILY modification significantly promoted EPC attachment and growth on the ECM scaffolds in vitro and supported EPC survival in vivo in the ischemic environment.When applied in an established Zucker Diabetic Fatty(ZDF)rat ischemic skin flap model,LXW7-DS-SILY-functionalized ECM scaffolds loaded with EPCs significantly improved wound healing,enhanced neovascularization and modulated collagen fibrillogenesis in the ischemic environment.Altogether,this study provides a promising novel treatment to accelerate diabetic ischemic wound healing,thereby reducing limb amputation and mortality of diabetic patients.Siqi He Tanaya Walimbe Hongyuan Chen Kewa Gao Priyadarsini Kumar Yifan Wei Dake Hao Ruiwu Liu Diana L.Farmer Kit S.Lam Jianda Zhou Alyssa Panitch Aijun Wang 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,4:2

10Review on the corrosion-promotion activity of graphene and its inhibition显示文摘Graphene films(GFs) and graphene-reinforced nanocomposite coatings(GNCs) have received unprecedented attention for corrosion protection because graphene possesses a remarkable chemical inertness and is completely impermeable to aggressive chemicals. However, the high electric conductivity and positive potential of graphene make graphene-based metal protectors tend to exhibit an undesirable high corrosion-promotion activity(CPA), which is widely known as the phenomenon that graphene connecting with metal accelerates the corrosion of metal substrate by inducing micro-galvanic corrosion at the defect sites of GFs or GNCs in aggressive environments. Therefore, inhibiting the CPA of graphene is currently a key focus for the application of graphene in the field of corrosion protection. 11Corrosion Inhibition of X80 Steel in Simulated Marine Environment with Marinobacter aquaeolei显示文摘In the present study, a novel bacterium( Marinobacter aquaeolei) was examined for its corrosion inhibiting behaviour against X80 pipeline steel. Electrochemical results showed that X80 steel immersed in the solution inoculated with M. aquaeolei possessed very high corrosion resistance compared to that of abiotic control. Besides, scanning electron microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were employed to analyse the corrosion product and the biofi lm formed on the metal surface. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was also applied to determine the composition of extracellular polymeric substances(EPS). Above results indicated that the corrosion inhibition effciency observed in biotic medium was very high(91%), proving that M. aquaeolei was an effective inhibitive agent for the corrosion of carbon steel. The inhibition was credited to the formation of bacterial biofi lm and the compact protective layer of the secreted EPS. 12Baseband Design for 5G UDN Base Stations:Methods and Implementation显示文摘Baseband design and implementation for micro/pico base stations(m BS)in 5G ultra-dense network(UDN)is studied. Low cost is an essential requirement for m BS baseband in UDN. Digital baseband cost of ASIC/ASIP(Application Specific Integrated Circuit/Instruction-set processor)is of the most uncertainty in m BS system. However,the actual costs and hardware feasibility of the baseband are yet unknown to network deployers and researchers. In this paper,we studied the baseband hardware system design and implementation for low-cost m BS. We analyzed popular baseband algorithms and architectures for both full-digital and hybrid beamforming(BF)for UDN. We then proposed feasible chip-level solutions for the baseband with up to 128-antenna BS system,and estimated their implementation cost. Results show that among full-digital BF algorithms,zero-forcing is a choice of high performance and low cost; for hybrid BF,4×32 architecture(32 RF chains)provides good reduction in baseband cost with acceptable performance loss,thus it can be a preferable solution under low cost consideration. 13Electron transfer mediator PCN secreted by aerobic marine Pseudomonas aeruginosa accelerates microbiologically influenced corrosion of TC4 titanium alloy显示文摘Titanium alloys possess excellent corrosion resistance in marine environments,thus the possibility of their corrosion caused by marine microorganisms is neglected.In this work,microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)of TC4 titanium alloy caused by marine Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated through electrochemical and surface characterizations during a 14-day immersion test.Results revealed that the unstable surface caused by P.aeruginosa resulted in exposure of Ti_(2)O_(3) and severe pitting corrosion with maximum pit depth of 5.7μm after 14 days of incubation.Phenazine-1-carboxylate(PCN),secreted by P.aeruginosa,promoted extracellular electron transfer(EET)and accelerated corrosion.Deletion of the phzH gene,which codes for the enzyme that catalyzes PCN production,from the P.aeruginosa genome,resulted in significantly decreased rates of corrosion.These results demonstrate that TC4 titanium alloy is not immune to marine MIC,and EET contributes to the corrosion of TC4 titanium alloy caused by P.aeruginosa.Dan Liu Hongying Yang Jianhui Li Jiaqi Li Yizhe Dong Chuntian Yang Yuting Jin Lekbach Yassir Zhong Li David Hernandez Dake Xu Fuhui Wang Jessica A.Smith 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,20:1
14An intermediate coupled model for the tropical ocean-atmosphere system显示文摘An intermediate ocean-atmosphere coupled model is developed to simulate and predict the tropical interannual variability. Originating from the basic physical framework of the Zebiak-Cane(ZC) model, this tropical intermediate couple model(TICM) extends to the entire global tropics, with a surface heat flux parameterization and a surface wind bias correction added to improve model performance and inter-basin connections. The model well reproduces the variabilities in the tropical Pacific and Indian basins. The simulated El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) shows a period of 3–4 years and an amplitude of about 2°C, similar to those observed. The variabilities in the Indian Ocean, including the Indian Ocean basin mode(IOBM) and the Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD), are also reasonably captured with a realistic relationship to the Pacific. However, the tropical Atlantic variability in the TICM has a westward bias and is overly influenced by the tropical Pacific. A 47-year hindcast experiment using the TICM for the period of 1970–2016 indicates that ENSO is the most predictable mode in the tropics. Skillful predictions of ENSO can be made one year ahead, similar to the skill of the latest version of the ZC model, while a 'spring predictability barrier' still exists as in other models. In the tropical Indian Ocean, the predictability seems much higher in the west than in the east. The correlation skill of IOD prediction reaches 0.5 at a 5-month lead, which is comparable to that of the state-of-the-art coupled general circulation models. The prediction of IOD shows a significant 'winter-spring predictability barrier', implying combined influences from the tropical Pacific and the local sea-air interaction in the eastern Indian Ocean. 15Multilevel Power Modeling of Base Station and Its ICs显示文摘A new power estimation method is proposed for base station(BS) in this paper.Based on this method,a software platform for power estimation is developed.The proposed method models power consumption on different abstraction levels by splitting a typical base station into several basic components at different levels in the view of embedded system design.In particular,our focus is on baseband IC(Integrate Circuit) due to it's the dominant power consumer in small cells.Baseband power model is based on arithmetic computing costs of selected algorithms.All computing and storage costs are calibrated using algorithm complexity,hardware architecture,activity ratio,silicon technology,and overheads on all hierarchies.Micro architecture and IC technology are considered.The model enables power comparison of different types of base stations configured with different baseband algorithms,micro architectures,and ICs.The model also supports cellular operators in power estimation of different deployment strategies and transmission schemes.The model is verified by comparing power consumption with a real LTE base station.By exposing more configuration freedoms,the platform can be used for power estimation of current and future base stations.WANG Wei LI Xiaoyang LIU Dake CAI Zhaoyun GONG Chen 2015China Communications2015,12,5:1
