1The CAMS Climate System Model and a Basic Evaluation of Its Climatology and Climate Variability Simulation显示文摘A new coupled climate system model(CSM) has been developed at the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences(CAMS) by employing several state-of-the-art component models. The coupled CAMS-CSM consists of the modified atmospheric model [ECmwf-HAMburg(ECHAM5)], ocean model [Modular Ocean Model(MOM4)], sea ice model [Sea Ice Simulator(SIS)], and land surface model [Common Land Model(CoLM)]. A detailed model description is presented and both the pre-industrial and 'historical' simulations are preliminarily evaluated in this study.The model can reproduce the climatological mean states and seasonal cycles of the major climate system quantities,including the sea surface temperature, precipitation, sea ice extent, and the equatorial thermocline. The major climate variability modes are also reasonably captured by the CAMS-CSM, such as the Madden–Julian Oscillation(MJO), El Ni?o–Southern Oscillation(ENSO), East Asian Summer Monsoon(EASM), and Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO).The model shows a promising ability to simulate the EASM variability and the ENSO–EASM relationship. 2Climate Sensitivity and Feedbacks of a New Coupled Model CAMS-CSM to Idealized CO_2 Forcing: A Comparison with CMIP5 Models显示文摘Climate sensitivity and feedbacks are basic and important metrics to a climate system. They determine how large surface air temperature will increase under CO_2 forcing ultimately, which is essential for carbon reduction policies to achieve a specific warming target. In this study, these metrics are analyzed in a climate system model newly developed by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences(CAMS-CSM) and compared with multi-model results from the Coupled Model Comparison Project phase 5(CMIP5). Based on two idealized CO_2 forcing scenarios, i.e.,abruptly quadrupled CO_2 and CO_2 increasing 1% per year, the equilibrium climate sensitivity(ECS) and transient climate response(TCR) in CAMS-CSM are estimated to be about 2.27 and 1.88 K, respectively. The ECS is near the lower bound of CMIP5 models whereas the TCR is closer to the multi-model ensemble mean(MME) of CMIP5 due to compensation of a relatively low ocean heat uptake(OHU) efficiency. The low ECS is caused by an unusually negative climate feedback in CAMS-CSM, which is attributed to cloud shortwave feedback(λSWCL) over the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean.The CMIP5 ensemble shows that more negative λSWCL is related to larger increase in low-level(925–700 hPa)cloud over the tropical Indo-Pacific under warming, which can explain about 90% of λSWCL in CAMS-CSM. Static stability of planetary boundary layer in the pre-industrial simulation is a critical factor controlling the low-cloud response and λSWCL across the CMIP5 models and CAMS-CSM. Evidently, weak stability in CAMS-CSM favors lowcloud formation under warming due to increased low-level convergence and relative humidity, with the help of enhanced evaporation from the warming tropical Pacific. Consequently, cloud liquid water increases, amplifying cloud albedo, and eventually contributing to the unusually negative λSWCL and low ECS in CAMS-CSM. 3Recent Progress in Numerical Atmospheric Modeling in China显示文摘This review summarizes the scientific and technical progress in atmospheric modeling in China since 2011,including the dynamical core,model physics,data assimilation,ensemble forecasting,and model evaluation strategies.In terms of the dynamical core,important efforts have been made in the improvement of the existing model formulations and in exploring new modeling approaches that can better adapt to massively parallel computers and global multiscale modeling.With regard to model physics,various achievements in physical representations have been made,especially a trend toward scale-aware parameterization for accommodating the increase of model resolution.In the field of data assimilation,a 4D-Var system has been developed and is operationally used by the National Meteorological Center of China,and its performance is promising.Furthermore,ensemble forecasting has played a more important role in operational forecast systems and progressed in many fundamental techniques.Model evaluation strategies,including key performance metrics and standardized experimental protocols,have been proposed and widely applied to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the systems,offering key routes for model improvement.The paper concludes with a concise summary of the status quo and a brief outlook in terms of future development.Rucong YU Yi ZHANG Jianjie WANG Jian LI Haoming CHEN Jiandong GONG Jing CHEN 2019Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2019,36,9:10

5Effect of Short-term Forest Bathing in Urban Parks on Perceived Anxiety of Young-adults: A Pilot Study in Guiyang, Southwest China显示文摘Forest can be taken as a natural therapy to alleviate perceived anxiety of visitors. Given the geographical difference between urban and rural forest environments, little is known about the urban forest therapy effect of anxiety alleviation with reference to the rural forest. In this study, forty-three university students(aged from 19 to 23) were recruited as participants to visit the forest parks at urban and rural areas of Guiyang City on 21 and 23 December 2016. The forest experience was separated by four sceneries. Participants were asked to complete questionnaires by self-evaluating specific anxiety change from 12 questions with scores from 1 to 10 at both entrance and exit of the parks. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test and paired t-test were used to compare the change of anti-anxiety scores during forest bathing and between urban and rural forests, respectively. Results revealed that forest bathing in the urban park can alleviate the anxiety from financial state(P = 0.0028), exam-pass pressure(P = 0.0040) and love-affair relationship(P = 0.0286). Although rural forest bathing can also alleviate the anxiety from financial state(P = 0.0222), meanwhile, it maintained the anxiety about campus life(P < 0.0001). Forest tree richness tended to be higher in the rural forest park than in the urban one, which in contrast decreased the anxiety alleviation from inter-communication in the rural forest park(P = 0.0487). Principle component analysis indicated that participants tended to perceive more decline of anxiety from social contact in the urban forest. In conclusion, university students were recommended to pay a short visit to the urban forest with partners if they felt anxious about personal affairs and felt necessary to talk with others. 6PCDH17 increases the sensitivity of colorectal cancer to 5-fluorouracil treatment by inducing apoptosis and autophagic cell death显示文摘5-Fluorouracil(5-FU)is known as a first-line chemotherapeutic agent against colorectal cancer(CRC),but drug resistance occurs frequently and significantly limits its clinical success.Our previous study showed that the protocadherin 17(PCDH17)gene was frequently methylated and functioned as a tumor suppressor in CRC.However,the relationship between PCDH17 and 5-FU resistance in CRC remains unclear.Here,we revealed that PCDH17 was more highly expressed in 5-FU-sensitive CRC tissues than in 5-FU-resistant CRC tissues,and high expression of PCDH17 was correlated with high BECN1 expression.Moreover,this expression profile contributed to superior prognosis and increased survival in CRC patients.Restoring PCDH17 expression augmented the 5-FU sensitivity of CRC in vitro and in vivo by promoting apoptosis and autophagic cell death.Furthermore,autophagy played a dominant role in PCDH17-induced cell death,as an autophagy inhibitor blocked cell death to a greater extent than the pancaspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK.PCDH17 inhibition by siRNA decreased the autophagy response and 5-FU sensitivity.Mechanistically,we showed that c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase(JNK)activation was a key determinant in PCDH17-induced autophagy.The compound SP600125,an inhibitor of JNK,suppressed autophagy and 5-FU-induced cell death in PCDH17-reexpressing CRC cells.Taken together,our findings suggest for the first time that PCDH17 increases the sensitivity of CRC to 5-FU treatment by inducing apoptosis and JNK-dependent autophagic cell death.PCDH17 may be a potential prognostic marker for predicting 5-FU sensitivity in CRC patients.Shuiping Liu Haoming Lin Da Wang Qiang Li Hong Luo Guoxiong Li Xiaohui Chen Yongqiang Li Peng Chen Bingtao Zhai Wengang Wang Ruonan Zhang Bi Chen Mingming Zhang Xuemeng Han Qiujie Li Liuxi Chen Ying Liu Xiaying Chen Guohua Li Yu Xiang Ting Duan Jiao Feng Jianshu Lou Xingxing Huang Qin Zhang Ting Pan Lili Yan Ting Jin Wenzheng Zhang Lvjia Zhuo Yitian Sun Tian Xie Xinbing Sui 2019Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2019,4,1:4
7Obtaining More Information about Precipitation Biases over East Asia from Hourly-Scale Evaluation of Model Simulation显示文摘The hourly summer precipitation simulations over East Asia by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Science Climate System Model(CAMS-CSM)high-resolution Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project(AMIP)runs(T255,~50 km)were evaluated based on the merged hourly precipitation product released by the China Meteorological Administration(CMA).The results show that the simulation biases are closely related to the topography,with the precipitation amount and frequency overestimated(underestimated),and duration of precipitation events being longer(shorter),over the western high-altitude(eastern plain)regions of China.Six regions with large discrepancies were further analyzed.In terms of the frequency-intensity structure,the overestimation of precipitation frequency is mainly due to the excessive simulated weak precipitation over the four regions with positive biases:the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau(STP),the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau(NETP),the eastern periphery of the Tibetan Plateau(EPTP),and the mountainous area of North China(NCM);while the underestimation of frequency is mainly due to the insufficient precipitation with moderate intensity over the two regions with negative biases:lower reaches of the Yangtze River(LYR)and the South China coast(SCC).Based on the duration-diurnal structure analysis,two kinds of precipitation events with different natures can be distinguished.The long-duration night to early morning precipitation events have a significant contribution to the precipitation amount biases for all the six key regions,and this kind of precipitation mainly affects the precipitation diurnal variation over the mountainous areas or steep terrain.Although the short-duration afternoon precipitation events only have a greater contribution to the precipitation amount biases over the SCC region,this kind of precipitation affects the diurnal variation over the NCM region and the two key regions with negative biases.Such a detailed hourly-scale evaluation is helpful for enriching the understanding of simulation biases and to further improve model performance.Nina LI Jian LI Xinyao RONG Haoming CHEN Yufei XIN Jingzhi SU 2020Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,3:3
8Diurnal Variations of Summer Precipitation over the Qilian Mountains in Northwest China显示文摘Based on the high-density hourly rain-gauge data from 265 stations over the Qilian Mountains in Northwest China,climatic mean diurnal variations of summer rainfall over different topographies of this area are investigated. Influences of the gauge elevations on the diurnal variation of rainfall are also revealed. Distinct regional features of diurnal variations in rainfall are observed over the Qilian Mountains. Rainfall over the Qinghai Lake areas shows a single nocturnal peak. A dominant, late-afternoon peak of rainfall occurs over the mountain tops. Over the northeastern and southeastern slopes, a dominant diurnal peak appears in the late afternoon, and an evident second peak is found in the early morning, respectively. The strengths of the early-morning peaks in the rainfall frequency are closely related to the rainfall events with different durations over the two slopes. The early-morning peak is dominant across plains with low elevations. From the mountain tops to the plains, the diurnal peaks of rainfall gradually vary from the dominant late-afternoon peak to the dominant early-morning peak with the enhanced early-morning peak in concurrent with the decreasing gauge elevation over the northeastern and southeastern slopes. Further examination indicates that the rainfall at higher elevations over the northeastern and southeastern slopes occurs more readily in the afternoon,compared to the lower elevations. 9Impacts of Topographic Complexity on Modeling Moisture Transport and Precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau in Summer显示文摘The non-hydrostatic global variable resolution model(MPAS-atmosphere)is used to conduct the simulations for the South Asian Summer monsoon season(June,July,and August)in 2015 with a refinement over the Tibetan Plateau(TP)at the convection-permitting scale(4 km).Two experiments with different topographical datasets,complex(4-km)and smooth(60-km)topography,are designed to investigate the impacts of topographical complexity on moisture transport and precipitation.Compared with the observations and reanalysis data,the simulation can successfully capture the general features of key meteorological fields over the TP despite slightly underestimating the inflow through the southern TP.The results indicate that the complex topography can decrease the inward and outward moisture transport,ultimately increasing the total net moisture transport into the TP by~11%.The impacts of complex topography on precipitation are negligible over the TP,but the spatial distributions of precipitation over the Himalayas are significantly modulated.With the inclusion of complex topography,the sharper southern slopes of the Himalayas shift the lifted airflow and hence precipitation northward compared to the smooth topography.In addition,more small-scale valleys are resolved by the inclusion of complex topography,which serve as channels for moisture transport across the Himalayas,further favoring a northward shift of precipitation.Overall,the difference between the two experiments with different topography datasets is mainly attributed to their differing representation of the degree of the southern slopes of the Himalayas and the extent to which the valleys are resolved.Gudongze LI Haoming CHEN Mingyue XU Chun ZHAO Lei ZHONG Rui LI Yunfei FU Yanhong GAO 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,7:3
10The CMIP6 Historical Simulation Datasets Produced by the Climate System Model CAMS-CSM显示文摘This paper describes the historical simulations produced by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences(CAMS)climate system model(CAMS-CSM),which are contributing to phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP6).The model description,experiment design and model outputs are presented.Three members’historical experiments are conducted by CAMS-CSM,with two members starting from different initial conditions,and one excluding the stratospheric aerosol to identify the effect of volcanic eruptions.The outputs of the historical experiments are also validated using observational data.It is found that the model can reproduce the climatological mean states and seasonal cycle of the major climate system quantities,including the surface air temperature,precipitation,and the equatorial thermocline.The long-term trend of air temperature and precipitation is also reasonably captured by CAMS-CSM.There are still some biases in the model that need further improvement.This paper can help the users to better understand the performance and the datasets of CAMS-CSM.Xinyao RONG Jian LI Haoming CHEN Jingzhi SU Lijuan HUA Zhengqiu ZHANG Yufei XIN 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,2:2
11Apoptosis in suspension culture of tobacco cells induced by heat shock显示文摘The induction of apoptosis in suspension culture of tobacco cells by heat shock is reported for the first time. Heat treatment (48℃ for 4 h) of tobacco cells led to the appearance of typical hallmarks of apoptosis. It was demonstrated by DNA laddering analysis that the cells treated with heat shock at 48℃ for 4 h had a serious degradation of nuclear DNA into multi-nu-cleosomal sizes, suggesting that heat shock activated endogenous nuclease which led to DNA cleavage at the linkage sites between the nucleosomes, but ladders were very faint for DNA from 2 and 9 h heat-treated cells. The terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) detection also showed that most of these treated cells (48℃ for 4 h) displayed positive reactions, indicating a serious DNA 3’-OH cleavage in their nuclei. 12Building of hFⅨ transgenic mice by spermatogenic cells显示文摘Human FⅨ expression vector pCMVⅨ was packaged by EffecteneTM reagent and injected into mice seminiferous tubules with glass pipettes. The expressional frame of pCMVⅨ was examined by PCR and Southern blotting among 41 progenies. There were 2 (4%) mice being integrated with hFⅨ gene into chromosomes. 4.6 ng/mL of hFⅨ protein was expressed in plasma of one mouse, which was tested by ELISA. We demonstrated that building of transgenic animals by spermatogonial stem cells is an efficient method. 13Large-size niobium disulfide nanoflakes down to bilayers grown by sulfurization显示文摘Atomically thin layers of group VB transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs)provide a unique platform for studying two-dimensional (2D) superconductivityand charge density waves. Thus far, the bottom-up synthesis of these 2D TMDshas often involved precursors that are corrosive or toxic, and their lateral sizesare typically only a few micrometers. In this paper, we report the growth ofNbS2 nanoflakes with a thickness down to bilayers and a lateral dimension upto tens of micrometers without using harsh chemical species. NbS2 nanoflakeseither standing or lying with respect to the sapphire substrate were obtained bysulfurization of niobium oxide films that were prepared via pulsed laser deposition.Standing nanoflakes are considered to grow epitaxiaUy on the sapphire substrateaccording to their ordered orientation, while lying nanoflakes with randomorientations were grown directly on top of the niobium oxide films. The Ramanspectra of the 3R-phase exhibit strong dependence on the layer thickness, wherethe A1 mode softens as the layer number decreases. In contrast to the stable bulkNbS2, the ultra-thin nanoflakes were oxidized on their top surfaces after prolongedexposure to air, as revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. 18Y_(2)O_(3) nanosheets as slurry abrasives for chemical-mechanical planarization of copper显示文摘Continued reduction in feature dimension in integrated circuits demands high degree of flatness after chemical mechanical polishing.Here we report using new yttrium oxide(Y_(2)O_(3))nanosheets as slurry abrasives for chemical-mechanical planarization(CMP)of copper.Results showed that the global planarization was improved by 30%using a slurry containing Y_(2)O_(3) nanosheets in comparison with a standard industrial slurry.During CMP,the two-dimensional square shaped Y_(2)O_(3) nanosheet is believed to induce the low friction,the better rheological performance,and the laminar flow leading to the decrease in the within-wafer-non-uniformity,surface roughness,as well as dishing.The application of the two-dimensional nanosheets as abrasive in CMP would increase the manufacturing yield of integrated circuits.Xingliang HE Yunyun CHEN Huijia ZHAO Haoming SUN Xinchun LU Hong LIANG 2013Friction2013,1,4:1
