2A Review of Seasonal Climate Prediction Research in China显示文摘The ultimate goal of climate research is to produce climate predictions on various time scales. In China, efforts to predict the climate started in the 1930 s. Experimental operational climate forecasts have been performed since the late 1950 s,based on historical analog circulation patterns. However, due to the inherent complexity of climate variability, the forecasts produced at that time were fairly inaccurate. Only from the late 1980 s has seasonal climate prediction experienced substantial progress, when the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere project of the World Climate Research program(WCRP) was launched. This paper, following a brief description of the history of seasonal climate prediction research, provides an overview of these studies in China. Processes and factors associated with the climate variability and predictability are discussed based on the literature published by Chinese scientists. These studies in China mirror aspects of the climate research effort made in other parts of the world over the past several decades, and are particularly associated with monsoon research in East Asia. As the climate warms, climate extremes, their frequency, and intensity are projected to change, with a large possibility that they will increase. 3Time-sensitivity of the Kaiser effect of acoustic emission in limestone and its application to measurements of in-situ stress显示文摘Measuring in-situ stress by using the Kaiser effect in rocks has such advantages as time- effi ciency, low cost and little limitation, but the precision of the method is dependent on rock properties and delay time of the measurement. In this paper, experiments on the Kaiser effect in limestones were performed, and it was found that the limestones had good ability to retain a memory of their recent stress history and high time-sensitivity. The longer the experiment was delayed from the extraction of the stone, the larger the Felicity ratio was. As the Felicity ratio approached 1, signifi cant Kaiser effect was observed. In-situ stress should be determined by the limestone measurements when the delay time was 40-120 days. 4The impact of cleats on hydraulic fracture initiation and propagation in coal seams显示文摘Cleats are systematic, natural fractures in coal seams. They account for most of the permeability and much of the porosity of coalbed methane reservoirs and can have a significant effect on the success of hydraulic fracturing stimulation. Laboratory hydraulic fracturing experiments were conducted on coal blocks under true tri-axial stress to simulate fracturing stimulation of coal seams. Fractures were initiated by injecting a water gel with luminous yellow fluorescent dye into an open hole section of a wellbore. The impact of cleats on initiation and propagation of hydraulic fractures in coal seams is discussed. Three types of hydraulic fracture initiation and propagation pattern were observed in this study: 1) The hydraulic fracture initiated and then grew along the cleat. 2) The hydraulic fracture initiated along a butt cleat or a fracture(natural or induced by drilling) oriented roughly in the minimum horizontal stress direction, then turned to propagate along the first face cleat that it encountered or gradually turned towards the maximum horizontal stress direction. 3) The hydraulic fracture initiated perpendicular to the minimum stress and, when it encountered a face cleat, tended to propagate along the cleats if the extension direction does not deviate greatly(<20° as determined in this paper) from the maximum horizontal stress direction. When a coal seam is hydraulically fractured, the resulting fracture network is controlled by the combined effect of several factors: cleats determine the initiation and extension path of the fracture, the in-situ stress state dominates the main direction of the fracture zone and bedding planes impede fracture height growth.Fan Tiegang Zhang Guangqing Cui Jinbang 2014Petroleum Science2014,11,4:14
5Boron neutron capture therapy for malignant melanoma: first clinical case report in China显示文摘A phase Ⅰ/Ⅱ clinical trial for treating malignant melanoma by boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT) was designed to evaluate whether the world's first in-hospital neutron irradiator(IHNI) was qualified for BNCT. In this clinical trial planning to enroll 30 patients, the first case was treated on August 19, 2014. We present the protocol of this clinical trial, the treating procedure, and the clinical outcome of this first case. Only grade 2 acute radiation injury was observed during the first four weeks after BNCT and the injury healed after treatment. No late radiation injury was found during the 24-month follow-up. 6Preliminary results of a regional air-sea coupled model over East Asia显示文摘We have established a regional air-sea coupled model over East Asia and conducted a 20-year integration to evaluate its performance in reproducing the present climate.The coupled model consists of RegCM3 and HYCOM controlled by the OASIS3 coupler with resuolution of 60 km for the atmosphere and 33 km for the ocean,respectively.Unlike some other regional air-sea coupled models,a one-way nesting method is employed in the oceanic component and a heat flux adjustment for solar radiation is used to remove an about 2°C cold bias in SST.The primary analysis for this 20-year integration shows that the coupled model successfully reproduces the main features of the circulations over East Asia,both in the atmosphere and the ocean,including climatology,seasonal and interannual variations.Improvements are seen in the coupled model compared to the uncoupled one,especially in the simulation of precipitation,the most important element of the East Asian monsoon,although there are still obvious discrepancies that come mainly from the model components themselves.Further analyses show that the rainfall simulation benefits from the enhancements of the Northwest Pacific Subtropical High in summer,which leads to the improvement of the moisture flux simula-tion at the middle-lower atmospheric circulation.The results indicate that the regional air-sea coupled model is more suitable for the East Asia monsoon simulation.LI Tao ZHOU GuangQing 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,21:10
7Characterization and evaluation of rice blast resistance of Chinese indica hybrid rice parental lines显示文摘The development of resistant varieties and hybrid combinations has been the most effective and economical strategy to control blast disease caused by Magnaporthe oryzae.However, the distribution of major R genes and blast resistance characterization in hybrid rice parents has not been well investigated, resulting in their limited use in hybrid rice blast-resistance breeding. In the present study, 88 elite indica hybrid rice parental lines were evaluated with 30 isolates of M. oryzae collected from the main planting area of indica hybrid rice in China and were characterized for the presence of 11 major resistance genes using molecular markers. The pathogenicity assays showed that four types of hybrid rice parent line showed some resistance to M. oryzae. However, the proportions of highly resistant lines and the mean resistance frequency(RF) varied among the four types, with resistance in decreasing order shown by three-line restorer lines, three-line maintainer lines, two-line sterile lines, and two-line restorer lines. All 88 hybrid rice parental lines carried more than one R gene, but none carried the R genes Pi1 and Pi2. Although Pid3 and Pi9 were present only in three-line restorer lines and Pigm only in three-line maintainer lines, the remaining six R genes(Pib, Pid2, Pi5, Pia, Pi54, and Pita) were present in the four types of hybrid rice parent with significantly different distribution frequencies. The correlation between R genes and resistance reactions was investigated. 8A distributed measurement method for in-situ soil moisture content by using carbon-fiber heated cable显示文摘Moisture content is a fundamental physical index that quantifies soil property and is closely associated with the hydrological,ecological and engineering behaviors of soil.To measure in-situ soil moisture contents,a distributed measurement system for in-situ soil moisture content(SM-DTS) is introduced.The system is based on carbon-fiber heated cable(CKHC) technology that has been developed to enhance the measuring accuracy of in-situ soil moisture content.Using CFHC technique,a temperature characteristic value(T_t) can be defined from temperature-time curves.A relationship among T_t,soil thermal impedance coefficient and soil moisture content is then established in laboratory.The feasibility of the SM-DTS technology to provide distributed measurements of in-situ soil moisture content is verified through field tests.The research reported herein indicates that the proposed SM-DTS is capable of measuring in-situ soil moisture content over long distances and large areas.Dingfeng Cao Bin Shi Honghu Zhu Guangqing Wei Shen-En Chen Junfan Yan 2015Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2015,7,6:10
9Fault plane parameters of Sanhe-Pinggu M8 earthquake in 1679 determined using present-day small earthquakes显示文摘The great Sanhe-Pinggu M8 earthquake occurred in 1679 was the largest surface rupture event recorded in history in the northern part of North China plain. This study determines the fault geometry of this earthquake by inverting seismological data of present-day moderate-small earthquakes in the focal area. We relocated those earthquakes with the double-difference method.Based on the assumption that clustered small earthquakes often occur in the vicinity of fault plane of large earthquake, and referring to the morphology of the long axis of the isoseismal line obtained by the predecessors, we selected a strip-shaped zone from the relocated earthquake catalog in the period from 1980 to 2009 to invert fault plane parameters of this earthquake. The inversion results are as follows: the strike is 38.23°, the dip angle is 82.54°,the slip angle is-156.08°, the fault length is about 80 km,the lower-boundary depth is about 23 km and the buried depth of upper boundary is about 3 km. This shows that the seismogenic fault is a NNE-trending normal dip-slip fault,southeast wall downward and northwest wall uplift, with the right-lateral strike-slip component. 10Rescued virus from infectious cDNA clone of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus is adapted to RK13 cells line显示文摘Based on the infectious full-length cDNA clone of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), the in vitro transcripts are introduced into RK13 cells. 12 h later, CPE could be observed clearly, and virual antigen could also be detected by IFA. The titre of the recovered virus is 104.6/mL. Immune electron micro-scopic observation of the virus particles revealed that the particles were rotund with a diameter of about 30 nm. Besides, virus titre quantification obtained by qRT-PCR showed a correlation between time from infection and virus titre. 11Study on preparation and properties of CeO_2/epoxy resin composite coating on sintered NdFeB magnet显示文摘The CeO_2/epoxy resin composite coating was deposited on NdFeB substrate by cathode electrophoresis method for enhancing the anticorrosion and anti-wear performances. The morphologies and structures were characterized by a scanning electron microscope and an X-ray diffractometer. The micro hardness of the composite coating was evaluated by a microhardness tester. The corrosive behaviors of the coatings were studied by potentiodynamic polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and neutral salt spray tests. The concentration of CeO_2 nanoparticles(NPs) in the electrophoresis bath was optimized according to the coating structures and anticorrosion performances. The results show that CeO_2 NPs can enhance the microhardness of the composite coatings. Moreover, the nanoparticles disperse uniformly in the matrix when the concentration is lower than 30 g/L. The microhardness of CeO_2/epoxy resin(30 g/L) composite coating is about 63% higher than that of the blank epoxy resin coating. And the NSS time of the CeO_2/epoxy resin(30 g/L) composite coated sample can reach 1248 h.Meanwhile, the composite coatings possess no deteriorate influence on the magnetic properties of NdFeB substrates. 12SST data assimilation experiments using an adaptive variational method显示文摘An adaptive variational data assimilation method is proposed by Zhu and Kamachi[1]. This method can adaptively adjust the model state without knowing explicitly the model error covariance matrix. The method enables very flexible ways to form some reduced order problems. A proper reduced order problem not only reduces computational burden but also leads to corrections that are more consistent with the model dynamics that trends to produce better forecast. These features make the adaptive variational method a good candidate for SST data assimilation because the model error of an ocean model is usually difficult to estimate. We applied this method to an SST data assimilation problem using the LOTUS data sets and an ocean mixed layer model (Mellor-Yamada level 2.5). 13Melatonin promotes ripening of grape berry via increasing the levels of ABA, H2O2, and particularly ethylene显示文摘The role of melatonin in the regulation of fruit ripening and the mechanism involved remain largely unknown.In“Moldova”grape berries,melatonin accumulated rapidly from onset of veraison,reached the maximum at 94 days after bloom(DAB)and then exhibited low levels at late stages of berry ripening.By contrast,abscisic acid(ABA)and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)exhibited different accumulation patterns,and ethylene was primarily produced immediately before veraison.Further experiments demonstrated that 10 and particularly 100µM melatonin treatments increased the levels of ABA,H2O2,and ethylene production and promoted berry ripening compared with the control treatment,whereas 0.1 and 1.0µM melatonin did not lead to clear effects.Additionally,the application of inhibitors indicated that ABA,H2O2,and ethylene participated in the regulation of berry ripening induced by melatonin,and the suppression of ethylene biosynthesis produced the greatest inhibitory effects on melatonin-induced berry ripening compared with those of ABA and H2O2.Melatonin also promoted ethylene production via ABA.In summary,10 and particularly 100µM melatonin treatments promoted berry ripening,which was accomplished,at least partially,via the other signaling molecules of ABA,H2O2,and particularly ethylene.This research provides insight into melatonin signaling during berry ripening and may advance the application of melatonin to accelerate berry ripening.Lili Xu Qianyu Yue Guangqing Xiang Feng’e Bian Yuxin Yao 2018Horticulture Research2018,5,1:7
14Melatonin enhances salt tolerance by promoting MYB108A-mediated ethylene biosynthesis in grapevines显示文摘The signal molecules melatonin and ethylene play key roles in abiotic stress tolerance.The interplay between melatonin and ethylene in regulating salt tolerance and the underlying molecular mechanism of this interplay remain unclear.Here,we found that both melatonin and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid(ACC,a precursor of ethylene)enhanced the tolerance of grapevine to NaCl;additionally,ethylene participated in melatonin-induced salt tolerance.Further experiments indicated that exogenous treatment and endogenous induction of melatonin increased the ACC content and ethylene production in grapevine and tobacco plants,respectively.The expression of MYB108A and ACS1,which function as a transcription factor and a key gene involved in ethylene production,respectively,was strongly induced by melatonin treatment.Additionally,MYB108A directly bound to the promoter of ACS1 and activated its transcription.MYB108A expression promoted ACC synthesis and ethylene production by activating ACS1 expression in response to melatonin treatment.The suppression of MYB108A expression partially limited the effect of melatonin on the induction of ethylene production and reduced melatonin-induced salt tolerance.Collectively,melatonin promotes ethylene biosynthesis and salt tolerance through the regulation of ACS1 by MYB108A.Lili Xu Guangqing Xiang Qinghua Sun Yong Ni Zhongxin Jin Shiwei Gao Yuxin Yao 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:7
15The El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation cycle simulated by the climate system model of Chinese Academy of Sciences显示文摘On the basis of more than 200-year control run, the performance of the climate system model of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS-ESM-C) in simulating the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) cycle is evaluated, including the onset, development and decay of the ENSO. It is shown that, the model can reasonably simulate the annual cycle and interannual variability of sea surface temperature(SST) in the tropical Pacific, as well as the seasonal phase-locking of the ENSO. The model also captures two prerequisites for the El Ni?o onset, i.e., a westerly anomaly and a warm SST anomaly in the equatorial western Pacific. Owing to too strong forcing from an extratropical meridional wind, however, the westerly anomaly in this region is largely overestimated. Moreover, the simulated thermocline is much shallower with a weaker slope. As a result, the warm SST anomaly from the western Pacific propagates eastward more quickly, leading to a faster development of an El Ni?o. During the decay stage, owing to a stronger El Ni?o in the model, the secondary Gill-type response of the tropical atmosphere to the eastern Pacific warming is much stronger, thereby resulting in a persistent easterly anomaly in the western Pacific. Meanwhile, a cold anomaly in the warm pool appears as a result of a lifted thermocline via Ekman pumping. Finally, an El Ni?o decays into a La Ni?a through their interactions. 16Performance evaluation of two types of heated cables for distributedtemperature sensing-based measurement of soil moisture content显示文摘Distributed temperature sensing(DTS)using heated cables has been recently developed for distributed monitoring of in-situ soil moisture content.In this method,the thermal and electrical properties of heated cables have a significant influence on the measurement accuracy of soil moisture content.In this paper,the performances of two heated cables,i.e.the carbon-fiber heated cable(CFHC)and the metalnet heated cable(MNHC),are studied in the laboratory.Their structures,uniformity in the axial direction,measurement accuracy and suitability are evaluated.The test results indicate that the MNHC has a better uniformity in the axial direction than CFHC.Both CFHC and MNHC have high measurement accuracy.The CFHC is more suitable for short-distance measurement(500 m),while the MNHC can be used for longdistance measurement(>500 m).Dingfeng Cao Bin Shi Honghu Zhu Kun Zhu Guangqing Wei Kai Gu 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,2:5

18New method for determining central axial orientation of flux rope embedded within current sheet using multipoint measurements显示文摘A new method for determining the central axial orientation of a two-dimensional coherent magnetic flux rope(MFR)via multipoint analysis of the magnetic-field structure is developed. The method is devised under the following geometrical assumptions:(1) on its cross section, the structure is left-right symmetric;(2) the projected structure velocity is vertical to the line of symmetry. The two conditions can be naturally satisfied for cylindrical MFRs and are expected to be satisfied for MFRs that are flattened within current sheets. The model test demonstrates that, for determining the axial orientation of such structures, the new method is more efficient and reliable than traditional techniques such as minimum-variance analysis of the magnetic field,Grad-Shafranov(GS) reconstruction, and the more recent method based on the cylindrically symmetric assumption. A total of five flux transfer events observed by Cluster are studied using the proposed approach, and the application results indicate that the observed structures, regardless of their actual physical properties, fit the assumed geometrical model well. 19The effects of modulation period,modulation ratio,and deposition temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of ZrB_2/W multilayers显示文摘Monolithic ZrB2,W coatings and ZrB2/W multilayers with different modulation periods and modulation ratios were synthesized by ion beam assisted deposition at room temperature and 400°C.X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),surface profiler,and nanoindention were employed to investigate the influences of the deposition temperature and the modulation period on the growth,textures,interface structure,and mechanical properties of the multilayers.The results indicated that the multilayer with modulation period of 13 nm synthesized at room temperature possessed a higher hardness of 23.8 GPa.Deposition temperature gave a significant contribution to mechanical property enhancement.The 400°C-deposition temperature led to a maximum hardness and elastic modulus value of 32.1 and 399.1 GPa for ZrB2/W multilayer with a modulation period of 6.7 nm.Its critical load increased to 42.8 mN and residual stress decreased to -0.7 GPa.A higher deposition temperature can cause an increase in interfacial atomic mixture and mobility of surface species,which induceds an increase in areal atomic density and dislocation pinning.These results as well as small nanoscale grain sizes should be related to hardness increase.LIU MengYin,TAN Ming,LIU GuangQing,WANG HaiYuan,XUE FengYing,DENG XiangYun & LI DeJun College of Physics and Electronic Information Science,Tianjin Normal University,Tianjin 300387,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,9:4
20Break Down of Vertical-Bloch-Line Chains in the First Kind of Dumbbell Domain Walls Subjected to an in-Plane Field显示文摘Experiments were statistically carried out on the behavior of the vertical-Bloch-line(VBL)chains of the first kind of dumbbell domains(IDs)in garnet bubble films subjected to an in-plane field,Hip.It was found that for IDs the critical in-plane field,(Hip)ID,above which their VBL chains disappear,is the same as that of ordinary hard bubbles(OHBs),H'ip.However,for IDS,the critical range of Hip for VBL chain softening is larger than that of OHBs.Besides,we also found some details of the softening process,e.g.,the collapse field range of the remaining IDs shrinks rapidly towards H_(0,mas),and this very narrow range can maintain until all IDs are softened.GUO Gexin LU Wei SUN Huiyuan NIE Xiangfu MENG Guangqing HAN Baoshan 1995Chinese Physics Letters1995,12,8:4
