GPGPU-parallelised hybrid finite-discrete element modelling of rock chipping and fragmentation process in mechanical cutting显示文摘Mechanical cutting provides one of the most flexible and environmentally friendly excavation methods. It has attracted numerous efforts to model the rock chipping and fragmentation process, especially using the explicit finite element method(FEM) and bonded particle model(BPM),in order to improve cutting efficiency. This study investigates the application of a general-purpose graphic-processing-unit parallelised hybrid finite-discrete element method(FDEM) which enjoys the advantages of both explicit FEM and BPM,in modelling the rock chipping and fragmentation process in the rock scratch test of mechanical rock cutting. The input parameters of FDEM are determined through a calibration procedure of modelling conventional Brazilian tensile and uniaxial compressive tests of limestone,A series of scratch tests with various cutting velocities, cutter rake angles and cutting depths is then modelled using FDEM with calibrated input parameters.A few cycles of cutter/rock interactions, including their engagement and detachment process, are modelled for each case, which is conducted for the first time to the best knowledge of the authors, thanks to the general purpose graphic processing units(GPGPU) parallelisation. The failure mechanism, cutting force, chipping morphology and effect of various factors on them are discussed on the basis of the modelled results. Finally,it is concluded that GPGPU-parallelised FDEM provides a powerful tool to further study rock cutting and improve cutting efficiencies since it can explicitly capture different fracture mechanisms contributing to the rock chipping as well as chip formation and the separation process in mechanical cutting. Moreover,it is concluded that chipping is mostly owed to the mix-mode Ⅰ-Ⅱ fracture in all cases although mode Ⅱ cracks and mode Ⅰ cracks are the dominant failures in rock cutting with shallow and deep cutting depths, respectively. The chip morphology is found to be a function of cutter velocdty, cutting depth and cutter rake angle.Mojtaba Mohammadnejad Sevda Dehkhoda Daisuke Fukuda Hongyuan Liu Andrew Chan 2020Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,2:5
Surgery for gastric cancer patients of age 85 and older: Multicenter survey显示文摘AIM To investigate the surgical therapies for gastric cancer(GC) patients of age 85 or older in a multicenter survey.METHODS Therapeutic opportunities for elderly GC patients have expanded in conjunction with extended life expectancy. However, the number of cases encountered in a single institution is usually very small and surgical therapies for elderly GC patients have not yet been standardized completely. In the present study, a total of 134 GC patients of age 85 or older who underwent surgery in 9 related facilities were retrospectively investigated. The relationships between surgical therapies and clinicopathological or prognostic features were analyzed.RESULTS Eighty-nine of the patients(66%) presented with a comorbidity, and 26(19% overall) presented with more than two comorbidities. Radical lymphadenectomy was performed in 59 patients(44%), and no patient received pre- or post-operative chemotherapy. Forty of the patients(30%) experienced perioperative complications, but no surgical or perioperative mortality occurred. Laparoscopic surgery was performed in only 12 of the patients(9.0%). Univariate and multivariate analyses of the 113 patients who underwent R0 or R1 resection identified the factors of p T3/4 and limited lymphadenectomy as predictive of worse prognosis(HR = 4.68, P = 0.02 and HR =2.19, P = 0.05, respectively). Non-cancer-specific death was more common in c Stage Ⅰ patients than in c Stage Ⅱ or Ⅲ patients. Limited lymphadenectomy correlated with worse cancer-specific survival(P = 0.01), particularly in c Stage Ⅱ patients(P < 0.01). There were no relationships between limited lymphadenectomy and any comorbidities, except for cerebrovascular disease(P = 0.07). CONCLUSION N o n- c a n c e r- s p e c i f i c d e a t h w a s n o t n e g l i g i b l e, particularly in c Stage Ⅰ, and gastrectomy with radical lymphadenectomy appears to be an effective treatment for cS tage Ⅱ elderly GC patients.Hirotaka Konishi Daisuke Ichikawa Hiroshi Itoh Kenichiro Fukuda Naoki Kakihara Manabu Takemura Kaori Okugawa Kiyoshi Uchiyama Masashi Nakata Hiroshi Nishi Toshiyuki Kosuga Shuhei Komatsu Kazuma Okamoto Eigo Otsuji 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,7:4
Catalyst-free growth of ZnO nanowires on various-oriented sapphire substrates by pulsed-laser deposition显示文摘Catalyst-free growth of one-dimensional zinc oxide(ZnO) nanowires is reported. ZnO nanowires were synthesized on ZnO buffer layers deposited on various-oriented sapphire substrates. Syntheses of ZnO buffer layers and nanowires were performed by ultraviolet pulsed-laser deposition. ZnO nanowire's number density was the lowest in the case of using m-cut sapphire substrates. ZnO nanowires grown on a-cut sapphire substrates had vertical alignment with distances of tens to hundreds of nanometers. On the other hand, ZnO nanowires grown on c-cut sapphire substrates had the biggest nucleation rate. The dependence of crystalline orientation of ZnO buffer layers on the orientation of sapphire substrates were investigated by electron back scatter diffraction measurement. From their results, the growth models of ZnO buffer layers were suggested and the variations in morphological properties of ZnO nanowires were discussed.Tetsuya Shimogaki Masahiro Takahashi Masaaki Yamasaki Taichi Fukuda Mitsuhiro Higashihata Hiroshi Ikenoue Daisuke Nakamura Tatsuo Okada 2016Journal of Semiconductors2016,37,2:2

Fungal pyrrolidine-containing metabolites inhibit alkaline phosphatase activity in bone morphogenetic protein-stimulated myoblastoma cells显示文摘Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva(FOP)is a rare autosomal dominant congenital disorder characterized by progressive heterotopic ossification in muscle tissues.A constitutively activated mutation of a bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)receptor,ALK2,has been identified in patients with FOP.We report here that four structurally related compounds,lucilactaene,hydroxylucilactaene,NG-391 and NG-393,produced by fungal strain Fusarium sp.B88,inhibit BMP signaling in vitro.Alkaline phosphatase activity,a marker enzyme of osteoblastic differentiation, was decreased in C2C12 myoblasts stably expressing mutant ALK2 by treatment with those compounds with IC_(50) values of 5.7,6.8,6.9 and 6.1 mM,respectively.Furthermore,NG-391 and NG-393 inhibited BMP-specific luciferase reporter activity, which is directly regulated by transcription factor Smads, with IC50 values of 1.4 and 2.1 mM,respectively. These findings suggest that these fungal metabolites may provide a new direction in the development of FOP therapeutics.Takashi Fukuda Ryuji Uchida Hiroyo Inoue Satoshi Ohte Hiroyuki Yamazaki Daisuke Matsuda Takenobu Katagiri Hiroshi Tomoda 2012Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,1:0
Decline in subarachnoid haemorrhage volumes associated with the first wave of the COVID- 19 pandemic显示文摘Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, decreased volumes of stroke admissions and mechanical thrombectomy were reported. The study’s objective was to examine whether subarachnoid haemorrhage(SAH)hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions demonstrated similar declines. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional,retrospective,observational study across 6 continents,37 countries and 140 comprehensive stroke centres.Patients with the diagnosis of SAH,aneurysmal SAH,ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions and COVID-19 were identified by prospective aneurysm databases or by International Classification of Diseases,10th Revision, codes. The 3-month cumulative volume, monthly volumes for SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling procedures were compared for the period before(1 year and immediately before)and during the pandemic, defined as 1 March-31 May 2020.The prior 1-year control period(1 March-31 May 2019)was obtained to account for seasonal variation.Findings There was a significant decline in SAH hospitalisations, with 2044 admissions in the 3 months immediately before and 1585 admissions during the pandemic, representing a relative decline of 22.5%(95%CI−24.3%to−20.7%,p<0.0001).Embolisation of ruptured aneurysms declined with 1170-1035 procedures, respectively, representing an 11.5%(95%CI−13.5%to−9.8%,p=0.002)relative drop.Subgroup analysis was noted for aneurysmal SAH hospitalisation decline from 834 to 626 hospitalisations,a 24.9%relative decline(95%CI−28.0%to−22.1%,p<0.0001).A relative increase in ruptured aneurysm coiling was noted in low coiling volume hospitals of 41.1%(95%CI 32.3%to 50.6%,p=0.008)despite a decrease in SAH admissions in this tertile.Interpretation There was a relative decrease in the volume of SAH hospitalisations, aneurysmal SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm embolisations during the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings in SAH are consistent with a decrease in other emergencies, such as stroke and myocardial infarction.Thanh N Nguyen Diogo C Haussen Muhammad M Qureshi Hiroshi Yamagami 12Review of novel therapeutic medicines targeting androgen signaling in castration-resistant prostate cancer显示文摘Prostate cancer is the most common male malignant neoplasm.Androgens and the androgen receptor(AR)play a key role in the onset and progression of prostate cancer. The expression of the AR is still preserved in the majority of patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC).CRPC is considered to be induced by the following mechanisms:(1)sustained AR activation by enhancing intracellular conversion of adrenal androgens to dehydrotestosterone via a de novo route;(2)AR hypersensitivity;(3)promiscuous activation of AR signaling;and(4)outlaw pathways.Recent advances in the treatment of CRPC include novel medicinestargeting AR signaling pathways. In addition, functional molecular studies have shown that some of the ARregulated genes and AR coregulators are prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets for prostate cancer, particularly in the castration-resistant state. Therefore, identification of the AR signaling pathways responsible for establishment of CRPC is critical for developing new strategies for the treatment of CRPC.Daisuke Obinata Kyoko Fujiwara Kenya Yamaguchi Ken-ichi Takayama Tomohiko Urano Hiroki Nagase Satoshi Inoue Satoru Takahashi Noboru Fukuda 2014World Journal of Clinical Urology2014,3,3:0
