| 1 | From Golden Rice to aSTARice:Bioengineering Astaxanthin Biosynthesis in Rice Endosperm显示文摘Carotenoids are important phytonutrients with antioxidant properties,and are widely used in foods and feedstuffs as Supplements.Astaxanthin,a red-colored ketocarotenoid,has strong antioxidant activity and thus can benefit human health.However,astaxanthin is not produced in most higher plants.Here we report the bioengineering of astaxanthin biosynthesis in rice endosperm by introducing four synthetic genes,sZmPSY1,sPaCrtl,sCrBKT,and sHpBHY,which encode the enzymes phytoene synthase,phytoene desaturase,β-carotene ketolase,and β-carotene hydroxylase,respectively.Transgneic overexpression of two (sZmPSY1 and sPaCrtl),three (sZmPSY1,sPaCrtl and sCrBKT),and all these four genes driven by rice endosperm-specific promoters established the Carotenoid/ketocarotenoid/astaxanthin biosynthetic pathways in the endosperm and thus resulted in various types of germplasm,from the yellow-grained β-caro- tene-enriched Golden Rice to orange-red-grained Canthaxanthin Rice and Astaxanthin Rice,respectively. | 5 | Synthesis of graphene materials by electrochemical exfoliation: Recent progress and future potential显示文摘Synthesis of structurally controlled graphene materials is critical for realizing their practical applications.The electrochemical exfoliation of graphite has emerged as a simple method to produce graphene materials.This review examines research progress in the last 5 years,from 2015 to 2019.Graphene material synthesis methods generally have a trade‐off between increasing production yield and achieving better material property control.The synthesis conditions for synthesizing pristine graphene,graphene oxide(GO),and graphene composites are significantly different.Thus,in this review,we first discuss synthesis methods for graphene materials with high C/O ratios from four aspects:graphite electrodes,equipment engineering,electrolytes,and additional reduction methods.Next,we survey synthesis methods for GO and examine how the pretreatment of the graphite electrodes,electrolytes,and operation parameters,such as applied voltages,electrolyte temperatures,and mechanical forces,affect the quality of GO.Further,we summarize electrochemical exfoliation methods used to dope graphene materials,introduce covalent functional groups,incorporate various nanoparticles,and assembly of graphene architectures.For all synthesis methods,we compare the properties of resulting graphene materials such as C/O ratios,lateral size,layer numbers,and quality characterized by Raman spectroscopy.Lastly,we propose our perspectives on further research.We hope this review stimulates more studies to realize the on‐demand production of graphene materials with desired properties using electrochemical exfoliation methods. | Fei Liu Chaojun Wang Xiao Sui Muhammad Adil Riaz Meiying Xu Li Wei Yuan Chen | 2019 | Carbon Energy2019,1,2: | 6 |

| 7 | Coupled Model of Two-phase Debris Flow,Sediment Transport and Morphological Evolution显示文摘The volume fraction of the solid and liquid phase of debris flows,which evolves simultaneously across terrains,largely determines the dynamic property of debris flows. The entrainment process significantly influences the amplitude of the volume fraction. In this paper,we present a depth-averaged two-phase debris-flow model describing the simultaneous evolution of the phase velocity and depth,the solid and fluid volume fractions and the bed morphological evolution. The model employs the Mohr–Coulomb plasticity for the solid stress,and the fluid stress is modeled as a Newtonian viscous stress. The interfacial momentum transfer includes viscous drag and buoyancy. A new extended entrainment rate formula that satisfies the boundary momentum jump condition(Iverson and Ouyang,2015) is presented. In this formula,the basal traction stress is a function of the solid volume fraction and can take advantage of both the Coulomb and velocity-dependent friction models. A finite volume method using Roe's Riemann approximation is suggested to solve the equations. Three computational cases are conducted and compared with experiments or previous results. | 10 | Two-dimensional Dynamics Simulation of Two-phase Debris Flow显示文摘To investigate the movement mechanism of debris flow, a two-dimensional, two-phase, depthintegrated model is introduced. The model uses Mohr-Coulomb plasticity for the solid rheology, and the fluid stress is modeled as a Newtonian fluid. The interaction between solid and liquid phases, which plays a major role in debris flow movement, is assumed to consist of drag and buoyancy forces. The applicability of drag force formulas is discussed. Considering the complex interaction between debris flow and the bed surface, a combined friction boundary condition is imposed on the bottom, and this is also discussed. To solve the complex model equations, a numerical method with second-order accuracy based on the finite volume method is proposed. Several numerical experiments are performed to verify the feasibilities of model and numerical schemes. | 15 | Human activity and climate change triggered the expansion of rocky desertification in the karst areas of Southwestern China显示文摘It is conducive to the sustainable development of human beings in karst regions to research the mechanism of karst rocky desertification(KRD)expansion.Whether the large-scale KRD in southwestern China is caused by climate change or human activities is still controversial.In this study,the evolution of the KRD in southwestern China over the past 2000 years was reconstructed through the high-precisionδ^(13)C record of stalagmites from Shijiangjun(SJJ)Cave,Guizhou Province,China.Theδ^(13)C of the stalagmites from SJJ Cave exhibited heavy values from the Medieval Warm Period(MWP)to the Little Ice Age(LIA).Furthermore,theδ^(13)C records of other stalagmites and tufa from southwestern China also showed the same significant heavy trend.Because the stalagmiteδ^(13)C could record the change of ecological environment,it indicated that the consistent change of the stalagmitesδ^(13)C may record the process of KRD expansion in the karst regions of southwestern China.During the MWP,the stronger Asian summer monsoon and the northward movement of the rain belt led to a dry period in southwestern China and a wet period in northern China.In contrast,it was wet in southwestern China and dry in northern China during the LIA.In addition,after the Jing-Kang event(JK event,AD1127)occurred at the end of the Northern Song dynasty,the political and economic center of China migrated to southern China for the first time,which changed the population distribution pattern of larger population in the north and smaller population in the south.Therefore,the expansion of KRD in southwestern China was exacerbated in the MWP due to the change of climate in southwestern China,the migration of a large number of people,wars,the large-scale reclamation of arable land,and the cultivation of large areas of crops. | Chaojun CHEN Daoxian YUAN Hai CHENG Tsailuen YU Chuanchou SHEN RLawrence EDWARDS Yao WU Siya XIAO Jian ZHANG Tao WANG Ran HUANG Ziqi LIU Tingyong LI Junyun LI | 2021 | Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,10: | 1 |

| 17 | Co_(1-x)S embedded in porous carbon derived from metal organic framework as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘Developing active, robust, and cost-efficient electrocatalysts is critical for oxygen evolution reaction(OER). Here, a novel composite catalyst of Co_(1-x)S embedded in porous dodecahedron carbon hybrid was synthesized by a two-step conversion protocol of a cobalt-based metal-organic framework(ZIF-67). The porous dodecahedron Co_(1-x)S@C composite catalyst was prepared by direct oxidation of ZIF-67 followed by sulfurization reaction. The Co_(1-x)S@C composite exhibit superior OER performance, including a low overpotential of 260 mV for 10 mA/cm2, a small Tafel slope of ~85 mV/dec, outstanding stability over 80 h and almost 100% Faradaic efficiency. The various material characterizations indicate that the excellent activity and strong stability of Co_(1-x)S@C might be attributed to good conductivity of Co_(1-x)S, mesoporous nanostructure, and synergistic effect of Co_(1-x)S encapsulated within porous carbon. | 20 | A Serum Biomarker Model to Diagnose Pancreatic Cancer Using Proteomic Fingerprint Technology显示文摘OBJECTIVE To establish a serum protein pattern model for screening pancreatic cancer. METHODS Twenty-nine serum samples from patients with pancreatic cancer were collected before surgery,and an additional 57 serum samples from age and sex-matched individuals without cancer were used as controls.WCX magnetic beans and a PBS Ⅱ-C protein chip reader (Ciphergen Biosystems Inc) were employed to detect the protein fingerprint expression of all serum samples. The resulting profiles comparing serum from cancer and normal patients were analyzed with the Biomarker Wizard system,to establish a model using the Biomarker Pattern system software. A double-blind test was used to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the model. RESULTS A group of 4 biomarkers(relative molecular weights were 5,705 Da,4,935 Da,5,318 Da,3,243 Da) were selected to set up a decision tree to produce the classification model to effectively screen pancreatic cancer patients.The results yielded a sensitivity of 100%(20/20),specificity of 97.4% (37/38).The ROC curve was 99.7%.A double-blind test used to challenge the model resulted in a sensitivity of 88.9% and a specificity of 89.5%.
