Microbiologically influenced corrosion behavior of S32654 super austenitic stainless steel in the presence of marine Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm显示文摘S32654 super austenitic stainless steel(SASS) is widely used in highly corrosive environments. However, its microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) behavior has not been reported yet. In this study, the corrosion behavior of S32654 SASS caused by a corrosive marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated using electrochemical measurements and surface analysis techniques. It was found that P. aeruginosa biofilm accelerated the corrosion rate of S325654 SASS, which was demonstrated by a negative shift of the open circuit potential(EOCP), a decrease of polarization resistance and an increase of corrosion current density in the culture medium. The largest pit depth of the coupons exposed in the P.aeruginosa broth for 14 days was 2.83 m, much deeper than that of the control(1.33 m) in the abiotic culture medium. It was likely that the P. aeruginosa biofilm catalyzed the formation of CrO_3, which was detrimental to the passive film, resulting in MIC pitting corrosion.Huabing Li Chuntian Yang Enze Zhou Chunguang Yang Hao Feng Zhouhua Jiang Dake Xu Tingyue Gu Ke Yang 2017Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,12:10
Microbiologically influenced corrosion of titanium caused by aerobic marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa显示文摘Microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) is a big threat to the strength and safety of many metallic materials used in different environments throughout the world. The metabolites and bioactivity of the microorganisms cause severe deterioration on the metals. In this study, MIC of pure titanium(Ti) was studied in the presence of a highly corrosive aerobic marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results obtained from electrochemical test showed that Ti was corrosion resistant in the abiotic culture medium after 14 d, while the increased corrosion current density(i_(corr)) obtained from polarization curves and the decreased charge transfer resistance(R_(ct)) from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)indicated the accelerated corrosion of Ti caused by P. aeruginosa biofilm. For further confirmation of the above results, the surface of Ti was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). According to the XPS results, TiO_2 was formed in both abiotic and biotic conditions, while unstable oxide Ti_2O_3 was detected in the presence of P. aeruginosa, leading to the defects in the passive film and localized corrosion. Pitting corrosion was investigated with the help of CLSM, and the largest pit depth found on Ti surface immersed in P. aeruginosa was 1.2 μm. Ti was not immune to MIC caused by P. aeruginosa.M.Saleem Khan Zhong Li Ke Yang Dake Xu Chunguang Yang Dan Liu Yassir Lekbach Enze Zhou Phuri Kalnaowakul 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,1:8
A novel Cu-bearing high-entropy alloy with significant antibacterial behavior against corrosive marine biofilms显示文摘The design of novel high-entropy alloys(HEAs)provides a unique opportunity for the development of structure-function integrated materials with high mechanical and antimicrobial properties. In this study,by employing the antibacterial effect of copper,a novel Al0.4CoCrCuFeNi HEA with broad-spectrum antibacterial and strong mechanical properties was designed.High concentrations of copper ions released from the HEA prevented growth and biofilm formation by biocorrosive marine bacterial species. These findings serve as a proof-of-concept for further development of unique HEA materials with high antimicrobial efficiency and mechanical properties, compared to conventional antibacterial alloys.Enze Zhou Dongxu Qiao Yi Yang Dake Xu Yiping Lu Jianjun Wang Jessica A.Smith Huabing Li Hongliang Zhao Peter K.Liaw Fuhui Wang 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,42,11:6
Methanogenic archaea and sulfate reducing bacteria induce severe corrosion of steel pipelines after hydrostatic testing显示文摘Complex interactions within a microbial consortium can induce severe corrosion in oil pipelines. This study investigated the mechanism of microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)that led to failure of X52 steel pipelines after hydrostatic testing.Laboratory hydrostatic testing with untreated lake water and underground water were used to simulate and study the events that led to the actual corrosion.Biofilm analysis, weight loss, and several electrochemical measurements demonstrated rapid corrosion rates after hydrostatic testing.Analysis of microbial community structures revealed that methanogenic archaea and sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB),introduced by the hydrotest water, formed corrosive biofilms on X52 steel coupon surfaces that induced severe pitting.Enze Zhou Jianjun Wang Masoumeh Moradi Huabing Li Dake Xu Yuntian Lou Jinheng Luo Lifeng Li Yulei Wang Zhenguo Yang Fuhui Wang Jessica A.Smith 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,13:5
Enhanced resistance of 2205 Cu-bearing duplex stainless steel towards microbiologically influenced corrosion by marine aerobic Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms显示文摘An antibacterial 2205-Cu duplex stainless steel(DSS)was shown to inhibit the formation and growth of corrosive marine biofilms by direct contact with copper-rich phases and the release of Cu^(2+)ions from the2205-Cu DSS surface. In this work, the microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)resistance of 2205-Cu DSS in the presence of the corrosive marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated. The addition of copper improved the mechanical properties such as the yield strength, the tensile strength and the hardness of 2205 DSS.Electrochemical test results from linear polarization resistance(LPR),electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and critical pitting temperature(CPT)measurements showed that 2205-Cu DSS possessed a larger polarization resistance(R_p),charge transfer resistance(R_(ct))and CPT values, indicating the excellent MIC resistance of 2205-Cu DSS against the corrosive P.aeruginosa biofilm. The live/dead staining results and the SEM images of biofilm confirmed the strong antibacterial ability of 2205-Cu DSS.The largest pit depth of 2205-Cu DSS was considerably smaller than that of 2205 DSS after 14 d in the presence of P.aeruginosa(2.2μm vs 12.5μm).2205-Cu DSS possessed a superior MIC resistance to regular 2205 DSS in the presence of aerobic P.aeruginosa.Dake Xu Enze Zhou Ying Zhao Huabing Li Zhiyong Liu Dawei Zhang Chunguang Yang Hai Lin Xiaogang Li Ke Yang 2018Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,8:4
Review on observational studies of western tropical Pacific Ocean circulation and climate显示文摘The Western Tropical Pacific(WTP) Ocean holds the largest area of warm water(>28℃) in the world ocean referred to as the Western Pacific Warm Pool(WPWP),which modulates the regional and global climate through strong atmospheric convection and its variability. The WTP is unique in terms of its complex 3-D ocean circulation system and intensive multiscale variability, making it crucial in the water and energy cycle of the global ocean.Great advances have been made in understanding the complexity of the WTP ocean circulation and associated climate impact by the international scientific community since the 1960 s through field experiments. In this study,we review the evolving insight to the 3-D structure and multi-scale variability of the ocean circulation in the WTP and their climatic impacts based on in-situ ocean observations in the past decades, with emphasis on the achievements since 2000.The challenges and open que stions remaining are reviewed as well as future plan for international study of the WTP ocean circulation and climate.HU Dunxin WANG Fan SPRINTALL Janet WU Lixin RISER Stephen CRAVATTE Sophie GORDON Arnold ZHANG Linlin CHEN Dake ZHOU Hui ANDO Kentaro WANG Jianing LEE Jae-Hak HU Shijian WANG Jing ZHANG Dongxiao FENG Junqiao LIU Lingling VILLANOY Cesar KALUWIN Chalapan QU Tangdong MA Yixin 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,4:3
Bioactive extracellular matrix scaffolds engineered with proangiogenic proteoglycan mimetics and loaded with endothelial progenitor cells promote neovascularization and diabetic wound healing显示文摘Diabetic ischemic wound treatment remains a critical clinical challenge.Neovascularization plays a significant role in wound healing during all stages of the tissue repair process.Strategies that enhance angiogenesis and neovascularization and improve ischemic pathology may promote the healing of poor wounds, particularly diabetic wounds in highly ischemic conditions. We previously identified a cyclic peptide LXW7 that specifically binds to integrinαvβ3 on endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs)and endothelial cells(ECs),activates vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)receptors, and promotes EC growth and maturation. In this study,we designed and synthesized a multi-functional pro-angiogenic molecule by grafting LXW7 and collagen-binding peptides(SILY)to a dermatan sulfate(DS)glycosaminoglycan backbone, named LXW7-DS-SILY,and further employed this multi-functional molecule to functionalize collagen-based extracellular matrix(ECM)scaffolds. We confirmed that LXW7-DS-SILY modification significantly promoted EPC attachment and growth on the ECM scaffolds in vitro and supported EPC survival in vivo in the ischemic environment. When applied in an established Zucker Diabetic Fatty(ZDF)rat ischemic skin flap model,LXW7-DS-SILY-functionalized ECM scaffolds loaded with EPCs significantly improved wound healing, enhanced neovascularization and modulated collagen fibrillogenesis in the ischemic environment.Altogether, this study provides a promising novel treatment to accelerate diabetic ischemic wound healing, thereby reducing limb amputation and mortality of diabetic patients.Siqi He Tanaya Walimbe Hongyuan Chen Kewa Gao Priyadarsini Kumar Yifan Wei Dake Hao Ruiwu Liu Diana L.Farmer Kit S.Lam Jianda Zhou Alyssa Panitch Aijun Wang 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,4:2
Novel vertical channel double gate structures for high density and low power flash memory applications显示文摘The flash memory technology meets physical and technical obstacles in further scaling. New structures and new materials are implemented as possible solutions. This paper focuses on two kinds of new flash cells for high density and low power memory applications based on the vertical channel double gate structure. The proposed VD-NROM with dual-nitride-trapping-layer and vertical structure can achieve four-bit-per-cell storage capability. And the proposed VSAS-FG cell benefits the high programming efficiency, low power and high density capability, which can be realized without any additional mask and can achieve the self-alignment of the split-gate channel and the floating-gate. The two novel flash cell structures can be considered as potential candidates for different flash memory applications.HUANG Ru ZHOU FaLong CAI YiMao WU DaKe ZHANG Xing 2008Science in China(Series F)2008,51,6:2

Fast growth of large single-crystalline WS_(2) monolayers via chemical vapor deposition显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)tungsten disulfide(WS2)has emerged as a promising ultrathin semiconductor for building high-performance nanoelectronic devices. The controllable synthesis of WS2 monolayers(1L)with both large size and high quality remains as a challenge. Here,we developed a new approach for the chemical vapor deposition(CVD)growth of WS2 monolayers by using K2WS4 as the growth precursor. The simple chemistry involved in our approach allowed for improved controllability and a fast growth rate of~30μm·min−1.We achieved the reliable growth of 1L WS2 flakes with side lengths of up to~500μm and the obtained WS2 flakes were 2D single crystals with low density of defects over a large area as evidenced by various spectroscopic and microscopic characterizations. In addition, the large 1L WS2 single crystals we obtained showed higher electrical performance than their counterparts grown with previous approaches, demonstrating the potential of our approach in producing high quality and large 2D semiconductors for future nanoelectronics.Shengxue Zhou Lina Liu Shuang Cui Xiaofan Ping Dake Hu Liying Jiao 2021Nano Research2021,14,6:1
Gene2DGE: A Perl Package for Gene Model Renewal with Digital Gene Expression Data显示文摘For transcriptome analysis, it is critical to precisely define all the transcripts across the whole genome. More and more digital gene expression (DGE) scannings have indicated the presence of huge amount of novel transcripts in addition to the known gene models. However, almost all these studies still depend crucially on existing annotation. Here, we present Gene2DGE, a Perl software package for gene model renewal with DGE data. We applied Gene2DGE to the mouse blastomere transcriptome, and defined 98,532 read-enriched regions (RERs) by read clustering supported by more than four reads for each base pair. Taking advantage of this ab initio method, we refined 2,104 exonic regions (4% of a total of 48,501 annotated transcribed regions) with remarkable extension into un-annotated regions (>50 bp). For 5% of uniquely mapped reads falling within intron regions, we identified 13,291 additional possible exons. As a result, we renewed 4,788 gene models, which account for 39% of a total of 12,277 transcribed genes. Furthermore, we identified 12,613 intergenic RERs, suggesting the possible presence of novel genes outside the existing gene models. In this study, therefore, we have developed a suitable tool for re-newal of known gene models by ab initio prediction in transcriptome dissection. 16A new ensemble-based targeted observational method and its application in the TPOS 2020显示文摘Ensemble Kalman filter-based targeted observation is one of the best methods for determining the optimal observational array for oceanic buoy deployment. This study proposes a new algorithm suitable for a‘cross-region and cross-variable’approach by introducing a projection operator into the optimization process.A targeted observational analysis was conducted for El Niño–Southern Oscillation(ENSO)events in the tropical western Pacific for the Tropical Pacific Observation System(TPOS)2020.The prediction target was at the Niño 3.4 region and the first 10 optimal observational sites detected reduced initial uncertainties by 70%,with the best observational array located where the Rossby wave signal dominates. At the vertical level, the most significant contribution was derived from observations near the thermocline. This study provides insights into understanding ENSO-related variability and offers a practical approach to designing an optimal mooring array. It serves as a scientific guidance for designing a TPOS observation network.Weixun Rao Youmin Tang Yanling Wu Zheqi Shen Xiangzhou Song Xiaojing Li Tao Lian Dake Chen Feng Zhou 2023National Science Review2023,10,11:0
Oral microbiota accelerates corrosion of 316L stainless steel for orthodontic applications显示文摘In this work, microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)of 316 L stainless steel(SS)caused by oral microbiota was investigated with HOMINGS 16 S rRNA gene sequencing technology, and electrochemical and surface analysis techniques. The results showed that oral microbiota from different subjects developed multi-species biofilms with significant differences in structure and composition of bacteria strains on the316 L SS coupons. In the presence of oral microbiota, more severe pitting corrosion and faster dissolution of metallic ions including Ni and Cr were observed. The biofilm considerably decreased the pitting potential of 316 L SS from 1268.0±29.1 mV vs.SCE(abiotic control)to less than 500 mV vs.SCE.The corrosion current density in the presence of oral microbiota from subject 1(115.3±83.3 nA cm^(-2))and subject 2(184.4±162.0 nA cm^(-2))was at least 4 times more than that in the abiotic medium(28.0±2.3 nA cm^(-2)).The electroactive microorganisms with the potential to facilitate corrosion via extracellular electron transfer found in oral microbiota may be mainly responsible for the accelerated corrosion.Qingfu Wang Mingxing Zhang Chuntian Yang Yi Yang Enze Zhou Pan Liu Daiqiang Jin Dake Xu Lin Wu Fuhui Wang 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,33:0
Common Postzygotic Mutational Signatures in Healthy Adult Tissues Related to Embryonic Hypoxia显示文摘Postzygotic mutations are acquired in normal tissues throughout an individual’s lifetime and hold clues for identifying mutagenic factors. Here,we investigated postzygotic mutation spectra of healthy individuals using optimized ultra-deep exome sequencing of the time-series samples from the same volunteer as well as the samples from different individuals. In blood, sperm, and muscle cells,we resolved three common types of mutational signatures.Signatures A and B represent clocklike mutational processes, and the polymorphisms of epigenetic regulation genes influence the proportion of signature B in mutation profiles.Notably, signature C,characterized by C>T transitions at GpCpN sites, tends to be a feature of diverse normal tissues.Mutations of this type are likely to occur early during embryonic development, supported by their relatively high allelic frequencies, presence in multiple tissues, and decrease in occurrence with age.Almost none of the public datasets for tumors feature this signature, except for 19.6%of samples of clear cell renal cell carcinoma with increased activation of the hypoxia-inducible factor 1(HIF-1)signaling pathway. Moreover, the accumulation of signature C in the mutation profile was accelerated in a human embryonic stem cell line with drug-induced activation of HIF-1α.Thus,embryonic hypoxia may explain this novel signature across multiple normal tissues. Our study suggests that hypoxic condition in an early stage of embryonic development is a crucial factor inducing C>T transitions at GpCpN sites;and individuals’genetic background may also influence their postzygotic mutation profiles.Yaqiang Hong Dake Zhang Xiangtian Zhou Aili Chen Amir Abliz Jian Bai Liang Wang Qingtao Hu Kenan Gong Xiaonan Guan Mengfei Liu Xinchang Zheng Shujuan Lai Hongzhu Qu Fuxin Zhao Shuang Hao Zhen Wu Hong Cai Shaoyan Hu Yue Ma Junting Zhang Yang Ke Qian-Fei Wang Wei Chen Changqing Zeng 2022Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2022,20,1:0
Enhanced Corrosion Resistance and Biofilm Inhibition of Functionally Graded TC4/TC4-5Cu Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting against Streptococcus mutans显示文摘Ti-6Al-4V(TC4)used in dentistry and orthopedics as implant biomaterial faces the risk of microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)owing to the residence of diverse oral microorganisms.Hereinto,Streptococcus mutans is a critical pathogenic microorganism that causes dental caries. This work investigated the corrosive effects of S.mutans on TC4 and functional gradient TC4/TC4-5Cu coupons fabricated by selective laser melting(SLM)through various electrochemical measurements, surface examination, observation of biofilm and corrosion analysis. The results indicated that the Cu-bearing alloy showed an inhibitory effect on the biofilms due to the release of Cu element, thereby reducing the corrosion rate of MIC.The corrosion current density(icorr)of TC4(11.7±0.8)nA cm−2 is higher than that of TC4/TC4-5Cu(7.4±0.4)nA cm−2 in the presence of S.mutans, while the maximum pit depth of TC4 is 1.6 times that of TC4/TC4-5Cu.Therefore,metal modification through Cu alloying is an effective strategy to improve the MIC resistance.Xing Zhou Qiyue Zhang Jiarui Lu Ying Zheng Lin Wu Dake Xu Xue Zhang Qiang Wang 2023Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2023,36,12:0
