| 2 | Black carbon aerosols and their radiative properties in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘The climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosols are a hot topic in global science community, and radiative properties of the aerosols are one of the important parameters in assessing climatic change. Here we studied the black carbon concentration and absorption coefficient measured with aethalometers, scattering coefficient measured with nephelometers, and single scattering albedo derived at an atmospheric composition watch station in Guangzhou from 2004 to 2007. Our main results are as follows. The data of black carbon concentration and absorption coefficients measured with instruments cannot be directly used until they are measured in parallel with internationally accepted instruments for comparison, calibration, and reduction. After evaluation of the data, the result shows that the monthly mean of BC concentration varies 3.1―14.8 μg·m-3 and the concentration decreases by about 1 μg·m-3 in average over the four years; It is higher in the dry season with a multi-year mean of 8.9 μg/m3 and lower in the rainy season with a multi-year mean of 8.0 μg·m-3; The extreme maximum of monthly mean concentration occurred in December 2004 and extreme minimum in July 2007, and a 4-year mean is 8.4 μg·m-3. It is also shown that monthly mean scattering coefficient derived varies 129 -565 Mm-1, monthly mean absorption coefficient 32-139 Mm-1, and monthly mean single scattering albedo 0.71-0.91, with annual mean values of 0.80, 0.82, 0.79 and 0.84 for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Three instruments were used to take simultaneous measurements of BC in PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 and the results showed that PM2.5 took up about 90% of PM10 and PM1 accounted for about 68% of PM2.5, and BC aerosols are mainly present in fine particulates. The variability of BC concentrations is quite consistent between the Nancun station (141 m above sea level) and the Panyu station (13 m above sea level), which are 8 km apart from each other. | 6 | Increased pretreatment levels of serum LDH and ALP as poor prognostic factors for nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Serum enzymes that play potential roles in tumor growth have recently been reported to have prognostic relevance in a diverse array of tumors.However,prognosis-related serum enzymes are rarely reported for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).To clarify whether the level of serum enzymes is linked to the prognosis of NPC,we reviewed the pretreatment data of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),alkaline phosphatase (ALP),and glutamyl transferase (GGT) in 533 newly diagnosed NPC patients who underwent radical radiotherapy between May 2002 and October 2003 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.Patients were grouped according to the upper limit of normal values of LDH,ALP,and GGT.The Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test were used for selecting prognostic factors from clinical characteristics and serum enzymes,and the chi-square test was applied to analyze the relationships of clinical characteristics and serum enzymes.Finally,a Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify the independent prognostic factors.We found that increased levels of LDH had poor effects on both overall survival and distant metastasis-free survival(P=0.009 and 0.035,respectively),and increased pretreatment level of serum ALP had poor effects on both overall survival and local recurrence-free survival(P=0.037 and 0.039,respectively).In multivariate analysis,increased LDH level was identified as an independent prognostic factor for overall survival.Therefore,we conclude that increased pretreatment serum LDH and ALP levels are poor prognostic factors for NPC. | Guo Li Jin Gao Ya-Lan Tao Bing-Qing Xu Zi-Wei Tu Zhi-Gang Liu Mu-Sheng Zeng Yun-Fei Xia | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2012,31,4: | 21 |

| 8 | Clinicopathological Characteristics and Prognosis of Hepatoid Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach:Evaluation of a Pooled Case Series显示文摘Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (HAS)is an extremely rare and unique gastric malignancy.The present study aimed to examine the relevance of the clinicopathological characteristics of HAS with patient prognosis.We retrospectively reviewed clinical data of 34 HAS patients treated at our institution between January 2010 and December 2016,as well as 294 cases reported prior to 2017 in research databases.Among these patients,45.6%(115/252)had lesions in the gastric antrum and 77.0%(235/305)were male.Elevated levels of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)were detected in most patients(75/93,80.6%).Vascular invasion(199/286,69.6%),lymph node metastasis (222/283,78.4%),and preoperative distant metastasis (121/328,36.9%)were commonly observed.The 5-year disease-free survival (DFS)and disease-specific survival (DSS) were 20.7%and 29.2%,respectively.DFS and DSS of patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy were significantly higher than those of patients receiving postoperative adjuvant therapy [DFS:P<0.001, hazard ratio (HR)=-1.831,95%confidence interval (CI):0.060-0.429;DSS:P<0.001,HR=-2.185, 95%CI:0.032-0.401].In conclusion,HAS exhibits distinct clinicopathological characteristics and a strikingly worse prognosis when compared with common gastric cancer.Complete surgery,early pTNM stage,and adjuvant therapy may predict a more favorable prognosis.Neoadjuvant therapy is strongly recommended for patients with lymph node metastasis or/and preoperative distant metastasis. | Xiang-yu ZENG Yu-ping YIN Hua XIAO Peng ZHANG Jun HE Wei-zhen LIU Jin-bo GAO Xiao-ming SHUAI Guo-bin WANG Xiu-li WU Kai-xiong TAO | 2018 | Current Medical Science2018,38,6: | 17 |
| 9 | Simultaneous mineralization of CO_2 and recovery of soluble potassium using earth-abundant potassium feldspar显示文摘CO2 capture and storage(CCS) is an important strategy in combatting anthropogenic climate change.However,commercial application of the CCS technique is currently hampered by its high energy expenditure and costs.To overcome this issue,CO2 capture and utilization(CCU) is a promising CO2 disposal method.We,for the first time,developed a promising method to mineralize CO2 using earth-abundant potassium feldspar in order to effectively reduce CO2 emissions.Our experiments demonstrate that,after adding calcium chloride hexahydrate as an additive,the K-feldspar can be transformed to Ca-silicates at 800 C,which can easily mineralize CO2 to form stable calcium carbonate and recover soluble potassium.The conversion of this process reached 84.7%.With further study,the pretreatment temperature can be reduced to 250 C using hydrothermal method by adding the solution of triethanolamine(TEA).The highest conversion can be reached 40.1%.The process of simultaneous mineralization of CO2 and recovery of soluble potassium can be easily implemented in practice and may provide an economically feasible way to tackle global anthropogenic climate change. | XIE HePing WANG YuFei JU Yang LIANG Bin ZHU JiaHua ZHANG Ru XIE LingZhi LIU Tao ZHOU XiangGe ZENG HongMei LI Chun LU HouFang | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,1: | 16 |
| 10 | Effects of continuously regenerating diesel particulate filters on regulated emissions and number-size distribution of particles emitted from a diesel engine显示文摘The effects of continuously regenerating diesel particulate filter (CRDPF) systems on regulated gaseous emissions, and number-size distribution and mass of particles emanated from a diesel engine have been investigated in this study. Two CRDPF units (CRDPF-1 and CRDPF-2) with different specifications were separately retrofitted to the engine running with European steady-state cycle (ESC). An electrical low pressure impactor (ELPI) was used for particle number-size distribution measurement and mass estimation. The conversion/reduction rate (R CR ) of hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) across CRDPF-1 was 83% and 96.3%, respectively. Similarly, the R CR of HC and CO and across CRDPF-2 was 91.8% and 99.1%, respectively. The number concentration of particles and their concentration peaks; nuclei mode, accumulation mode and total particles; and particle mass were highly reduced with the CRDPF units. The nuclei mode particles at downstream of CRDPF-1 and CRDPF-2 decreased by 99.9% to 100% and 97.8% to 99.8% respectively; and the particle mass reduced by 73% to 92.2% and 35.3% to 72.4%, respectively, depending on the engine conditions. | 11 | Activated Drp1 regulates p62-mediated autophagic flux and aggravates inflammation in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion via the ROS-RIP1/RIP3-exosome axis显示文摘Background: Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury(CIRI) refers to a secondary brain injury that can occur when the blood supply to the ischemic brain tissue is restored. However, the mechanism underlying such injury remains elusive.Methods: The 150 male C57 mice underwent middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) for 1 h and reperfusion for 24 h,Among them, 50 MCAO mice were further treated with Mitochondrial division inhibitor 1(Mdivi-1) and 50 MCAO mice were further treated with N-acetylcysteine(NAC). SH-SY5Y cells were cultured in a low-glucose culture medium for 4 h under hypoxic conditions and then transferred to normal conditions for 12 h. Then, cerebral blood flow, mitochondrial structure, mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) copy number, intracellular and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(ROS),autophagic flux, aggresome and exosome expression profiles, cardiac tissue structure, mitochondrial length and cristae density, mtDNA and ROS content, as well as the expression of Drp1-Ser616/Drp1, RIP1/RIP3, LC3 II/I, TNF-α,IL-1β, etc., were detected under normal or Drp1 interference conditions.Results: The mtDNA content, ROS levels, and Drp1-Ser616/Drp1 were elevated by 2.2, 1.7 and 2.7 times after CIRI(P<0.05). However, the high cytoplasmic LC3 II/I ratio and increased aggregation of p62 could be reversed by 44%and 88% by Drp1 short hairpin RNA(shRNA)(P<0.05). The low fluorescence intensity of autophagic flux and the increased phosphorylation of RIP3 induced by CIRI could be attenuated by ROS scavenger, NAC(P<0.05). RIP1/RIP3inhibitor Necrostatin-1(Nec-1) restored 75% to a low LC3 II/I ratio and enhanced 2 times to a high RFP-LC3 after Drp1 activation(P<0.05). In addition, although CIRI-induced ROS production caused no considerable accumulation of autophagosomes(P>0.05), it increased the packaging and extracellular secretion of exosomes containing p62 by 4–5 times, which could be decreased by Mdivi-1, Drp1 shRNA, and Nec-1(P<0.05). Furthermore, TNF-α and IL-1βincreased in CIRI-derived exosomes could increase RIP3 phosphorylation in normal or oxygen–glucose deprivation/reoxygenation(OGD/R) conditions(P<0.05).Conclusions: CIRI activated Drp1 and accelerated the p62-mediated formation of autophagosomes while inhibiting the transition of autophagosomes to autolysosomes via the RIP1/RIP3 pathway activation. | 12 | The cloning of Dmc1 cDNAs and a comparative study of its expression in different ploidy cyprinid fishes显示文摘Dmc1 (disrupted meiotic cDNA) is a functionally specific gene, which was firstly discovered in yeast and then found to encode a protein required for homologous chromosome synapsis during the process of meiosis. In this investigation, we cloned the partial cDNAs of Dmc1 of diploid red crucian carp, Japanese crucian carp, common carp, triploid crucian carp and allotetraploid hybrids by using a pair of degenerate primers based on the conservative sequence of amino acids of the DMC1 protein in yeast, mouse and human. The full length cDNAs were then obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). Our data showed that the full length cDNAs of Dmc1 in the three diploid fishes are all 1375 bp long, while it is 1383 bp long in triploids and 1379 bp long in allotetraploids. And despite of the variation in length, all the cDNAs encode a protein of 342 amino acids. A high homology of 97.3% of the DMC1 protein can be drawn by comparing the amino acid sequences in the three diploids, which is also of 86%, 86% and 95% similarity to human, mouse and zebrafish, respectively. A comparative study of the expression pattern of Dmc1 was carried out by RT-PCR using specific primers against the same se-quences of coding regions in different ploidy cyprinid fishes, from which it was showed that Dmc1 was expressed only in gonads of these five kinds of fishes. The expression pattern of Dmc1 in both ovaries and testes from different ploidy fishes within breeding season was also studied by Real-time PCR, and the results showed that the expression of this gene was greatly different among the three different ploidy fishes, which was the highest of triploid and lowest of allotetraploids. The histological sections data showed matured gonads of both diploid red crucian carp and allotetraploids in breeding season, although the latter demonstrated a higher maturation, and no gonadal maturation could be observed in triploids. In conclusion, we suggest that Dmc1 is specifically expressed in the period of meiosis in all the ploidy cyprinid fishes and directly related with the development of gonad in a manner of ploidy-independent way. | 14 | Triptolide Inhibits Expression of Inflammatory Cytokines and Proliferation of Fibroblast-like Synoviocytes Induced by IL-6/sIL-6R-Mediated JAK2/STAT3 Signaling Pathway显示文摘Triptolide,a component of the Chinese herb Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F,has been proved to be effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA).However,its underlying mechanisms on RA have not yet been well established.We observed the inhibitory effect of triptolide on the expression of inflammatory cytokines and proliferation of fibroblast-like synoviocytes(FLS)induced by the complex of interleukin-6(IL-6)and the soluble form of the IL-6 receptor(sIL-6R).Furthermore,to clarify the underlying mechanisms,we treated FLS with the Janus-activated kinase 2(JAK2)inhibitor/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)activation blocker AZD1480.In this study,immunohistochemical staining was used to identify vimentin(+)and CD68(−)in FLS.The FLS proliferation was measured by cell proliferation assay,and the cell cycles were analyzed by flow cytometry.Furthermore,ELISA was used to detect the expression of the inflammatory factors in culture solution.The expression levels of p-JAK2,JAK2,p-STAT3 and STAT3 were investigated through Western blotting analysis.The results showed that IL-6/sIL-6R significantly increased the cell proliferation and expression of inflammatory cytokines,including IL-6,interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).Triptolide or AZD1480 inhibited the cell proliferation and inflammatory cytokine expression in IL-6/sIL-6R-stimulated FLS by suppressing JAK2/STAT3.The study suggested that the physiological effects of triptolide on RA were due to its contribution to the inhibition of the inflammatory cytokine expression and FLS proliferation by suppressing the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway.It may provide an innovative insight into the effect of triptolide in preventing RA pathogenesis. | Jian-jing LIN Ke TAO Nan GAO Hui ZENG De-li WANG Jun YANG Jian WENG | 2021 | Current Medical Science2021,41,1: | 13 |
