1New eolian red clay sequence on the western Chinese Loess Plateau linked to onset of Asian desertification about 25 Ma ago显示文摘The expansion of inland Asia deserts has considerably influenced the environmental, social and economic activities in Asia. Aridification of inland Asia, especially timing of the initiation of Asian desertification, is a contentious topic in paleoclimatology. Late Cenozoic eolian loess-red clay sequences on the Chinese Loess Plateau, which possess abundant paleoclimatic and paleo-environmental information, can be regarded as an indicator of inland Asia desertification. Here we present a detailed magnetostratigraphic investigation of a new red clay sequence about 654 m in Zhuanglang located at the western Chinese Loess Plateau. Sedimentological, geochemical, mineralogical, and quartz morphological lines of evidence show that the red clay is of eolian origin. Magnetostratigraphic correlations indicate that this core sequence spans from 25.6 to 4.8 Ma, and typical eolian red clay appears as early as 25 Ma. This extends the lower limit of the red clay on the Chinese Loess Plateau from the previously thought early Miocene back into the late Oligocene. This new red clay record further implies that the inland Asia desertification was initiated at least by the late Oligocene. 4Distribution patterns of tree species in an evergreen broadleaved forest in eastern China显示文摘Ecological assembly rules in evergreen broad-leaved forest are far from clear understanding.Spatial dispersion of individuals in a species is central in ecological theory.We analyzed the spatial patterns as well as associations between adult and juvenile of each tree species in a 5-ha subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest plot in eastern China.Out of the 74 species occurring with more than 10 individuals,88.4%of these species are aggregated.Most of them are aggregated from small to large scales.Spatial distributions of some species corre-spond with topography.Many bad dispersed species in the Baishanzu exhibit a highly aggregated distribution at small scales.These suggest that environmental heterogeneity and/or dispersal limitation may be the most important mechanisms that control the distribution patterns of these species.Our observations of the aggregations of abundant species basically support the hypothesis that dispersal limitation decreases as the number of reproductive trees increases.The rest species are randomly distributed,with less than 10 individuals.For most common species,spatial aggregation is weaker in larger diameter classes,and the distance between adults is larger than that between juveniles and adults,suggesting that density-dependence works on loosing aggregation and excluding conspecific juveniles away from adult trees.However,the density-dependent effect is not strong enough to eliminate all seedlings near adult trees and to result in a regular distribution of trees;thus the density dependence is usually masked by the refuge effect.Zhengrong LUO Bingyang DING Xiangcheng MI Jiuhua YU Yougui WU 2009Frontiers in Biology2009,4,4:1

6Late Miocene–early Pleistocene paleoproductivity variations of the Lop Nor in the Tarim Basin and its implications on aridification in Asian Interior显示文摘Extensive lacustrine deposits in the eastern Tarim Basin provide records of climate change influenced by the westerly winds and the Asian monsoon. To characterize the evolution of climate change in this region, we analyze elemental concentrations of barium(Ba) from the Ls2 drill core of Lop Nor, a paleo-lakebed located in the eastern Tarim Basin. Biogenic Ba concentrations from this drill core display a large-amplitude oscillation that generally follows a pattern similar to that of Artemisia content and ostracod assemblages, suggesting that is may serve as an index for climate change experienced in the basin. Our results indicate that biogenic Ba is especially sensitive to precipitation. All climatic proxies served in this study vary significantly over late Miocene to early Pleistocene time period. Strong aridification of eastern Tarim in the late Miocene to the early Pliocene may be attributed to a latitudinal shift in the westerly winds, which would have resulted in more moisture transported to southern and eastern Tibet. The growth of the Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau may have acted as an orographic barrier that blocked moisture sourced in the south from the northern margins of the plateau. 7Identifi cation and characterization of a novel tetrapeptide from enzymatic hydrolysates of Baijiu byproduct显示文摘In order to prepare angiotensin I-converting enzyme(ACE)inhibitory peptides,distilled spent grains of Chinese strong-flavor Baijiu were hydrolyzed by alcalase followed by papain under optimized conditions.A superior ACE inhibitory peptide was separated and purifi ed by ultrafi ltration and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),and its amino acid sequence was further identified as Gln-Gly-Val-Pro(QGVP)by electrospray mass spectrometry(ESI-MS).QGVP formed 6 hydrogen bonds with the active site of ACE,which is responsible for reducingα-helix structure content of ACE causing subsequent inactivation.M oreover,it showed no significant cytotoxicity toward human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs),a nd signifi cantly i nduced phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase(p-e NOS)and decreased endothelin 1(END1)expression in angiotensin I(Ang I)-treated HUVECs,demonstrating the potential antihypertensive effect.The peptide QGVP hydrolyzed from distilled spent grain proteins of Chinese strong-fl avor Baijiu was expected to be used as a food ingredient to prevent or co-treat hypertension with other chemical drugs.Qiang Wu Changqing Zhong Guirong Zeng Xu Zhang Liping Xiang Chang Wan Yougui Yu 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,6:0
8Successive magnetic ordering in two Co^(Ⅱ)-ladder metal-organic frameworks显示文摘Metal-organic frameworks showing successive magnetic ordering are far less common than inorganic compounds.Here,we report two metal-organic frameworks[Co^Ⅱ(ox)(bphy)·0.1(DMF)·0.1(Me OH)]n(1)and[Co3^Ⅱ(ox)3(bphy)2(DMF)2]n(2)comprised of zigzag and necklace Co^Ⅱ-ladders,respectively.Together with a previously reported compound[Co^Ⅱ(ox)(bphy)·0.2(DMF)]n(3)consisting of spiraling zigzag Co^Ⅱ-ladders,these three compounds provide a good system for comparative structural and magnetic studies.Comprehensive magnetic analysis reveals that the three compounds undergo long-range magnetic ordering at^2.6 K but exhibit vastly different short-range magnetic correlations:compound 1 shows short-range spin-canted antiferromagnetism ordering at^14.0 K;compound 2 demonstrates successive short-range antiferromagnetism ordering at^15.5and^12.6 K;compound 3 shows slow magnetic relaxation with Tb≈4.6 K.These results demonstrate long-range magnetic ordering is readily accessible in the frameworks of ox^2-bridging Co^Ⅱ-ladders linked by bphy,where short-range magnetic correlations can be systematicly tuned by the Co^Ⅱ-ladder structures.Zhu Zhuo Guoling Li Chenglin Shu Wei Wang Caiping Liu Mingyan Wu Yougui Huang Maochun Hong 2021Science China Chemistry2021,64,1:0
9Effect of an integrated mangrove-aquaculture system on aquacultural health显示文摘Mangroves are unique intertidal halophyte formations growing in sheltered tropical and subtropical coastal areas.Due to the increasing population and economic development,mangroves have faced degrada-tion and loss,which has been mainly caused by land conversion into aquaculture ponds in Asia.In the past several decades,the rapid growth of aquaculture has induced water pollution.Using mangroves for effluent treatment from coastal aquaculture ponds could be a suitable approach for wastewater treatment and healthy aquaculture development.An Integrated Mangrove-Aquaculture System(IMAS)was established to test whether the idea of a mangrove in situ treatment for aquaculture wastewater is feasible.The monocultures of three mangroves,Sonneratia caseolaris,Kandelia obo-vata,and Aegiceras corniculatum were established with area proportions of 45%,30%,or 15%,respectively.One control pond without mangroves was also set up.The results indicated that the mangroves had different toler-abilities to long-term inundation.The aquaculture ponds had different fishery yields,considering the mangrove species and area proportions.The water quality of most of the experimental ponds was better than the control pond,except for the planted Sonneratia.It is concluded that mangroves can reduce the concentration of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate,buffer the pH value and increase the concertration of dissolved oxygen in aqua-culture water bodies effectively.It is suggested to use 15%of the Aegiceras corniculatum area to conduct in situ purification of aquaculture wastewater and to enhance aquaculture production.Yisheng PENG Xulin LI Kalan WU Yougui PENG Guizhu CHEN 2009Frontiers in Biology2009,4,4:0
10Cyclic-acyclic monomers metathesis polymerization to access photodegradable polydicyclopentadiene and polyethylene-like materials显示文摘The development of degradable and recyclable polymers is an attractive strategy to tackle the post-consumption pollution issue of commercial plastics.Cyclic-acyclic monomers metathesis polymerization(CAMMP)has been recently reported to produce degradable thermoset,thermoplastic and elastomeric polymers,and their degradability is enabled with addition of various chemicals.In this contribution,we demonstrate that the utilization of diene comonomers containing photodegradable moiety can give access to thermoset and thermoplastic materials bearing photo-degradation capabilities.The copolymerization of a series easily accessible diene comonomers bearing photodegradable ortho-nitrobenzyl moieties with dicyclopentadiene(DCPD)or cyclooctene(COE)leads to the formation of photodegradable p DCPD thermosets and p COE thermoplastic polymers with mechanical properties comparable to their non-degradable counterparts.Most importantly,their photo-degradation properties can be efficiently tuned with the addition of ultraviolet absorber during in-situ polymerization.Wu Li Daohong Liao Yougui Li Guifu Si Changle Chen 2024Science China Chemistry2024,67,4:0
