2Function of note strings in Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo:a playback experiment显示文摘Background: Birds produce alarm calls to convey information about threats. Some Passerine alarm calls consist of several note strings, but few studies have examined their function. Previous studies have shown that Japanese Tits(Parus minor) can alter the calling rate and number and combination of notes in response to predators. We previously found the combinations of note types in Japanese Tit alarm calls to be significantly different in response to the Sparrowhawk(Accipiter nisus) and Common Cuckoo(Cuculus canorus).Methods: Through playback experiments, we tested whether the note strings in Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo have different functions in conveying information. The note strings of selected alarm calls were divided into the categories of C and D, and different calls were then constructed separately based on the two note string categories. Original alarm calls(C–D), C calls and D calls were played back to male Japanese Tits during the incubation period.Results: Male Japanese Tits had a significantly stronger response to C calls than to C–D calls, and they showed a significantly stronger response to both C and C–D calls than to D calls, suggesting that Japanese Tits discriminated between the C and D calls.Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that the C-and D-category note strings of Japanese Tit alarm calls to the Common Cuckoo have different functions, which supports the previous finding that different note strings in an alarm call can provide different information to receivers. 4Exosomal LINC00355 derived from cancer-associated fibroblasts promotes bladder cancer cell resistance to cisplatin by regulating miR-34b-5p/ABCB1 axis显示文摘Cisplatin resistance is a major challenge for bladder cancer(BC).Evidence indicates that exosome derived from cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAF-Exo)can promote chemotherapy resistance in various human tumors by delivering bioactive molecules.We have previously demonstrated that CAF-derived exosomal LINC00355 promotes BC cell proliferation and invasion.However,the underlying mechanisms are still unclear.In this study,we aimed to investigate the role and mechanisms of CAF-derived exosomal LINC00355 in BC cell resistance to cisplatin.Exosomes were isolated from normal fibroblasts(NFs)and BC tumor-derived CAFs,namely,NF-Exo and CAF-Exo.CAFs were transfected with si-Ctrl or si-LINC00355 and then different exosomes were isolated,namely,CAF^(si-Ctrl)-Exo and CAF^(si-LINC00355)-Exo.The human BC cell lines(T24 and 5367)were incubated with NF-Exo,CAF-Exo,CAF^(si-Ctrl)-Exo,and CAF^(si-LINC00355)-Exo in the presence of cisplatin.MTT proliferation assay and flow cytometric analysis showed that CAF-Exo promoted BC cell resistance to cisplatin and upregulated ABCB1 expression in BC cells by transferring LINC00355 to BC cells.Luciferase activity assay confirmed the interaction between miR-34b-5p and LINC00355 or ABCB1.qRT-PCR and western blot analysis further showed that LINC00355 sponged miR-34b-5p to upregulate ABCB1 expression.However,the promoting effects of CAF-Exo on BC cell resistance to cisplatin were abolished by miR-34b-5p overexpression and ABCB1 silencing.In conclusion,exosomal LINC00355 derived from CAFs promotes BC cell resistance to cisplatin by regulating the miR-34b-5p/ABCB1 axis.Guangyue Luo Yangyang Zhang Zhonghui Wu Ligang Zhang Chaozhao Liang Xianguo Chen 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,5:6
5Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting by g-C_3N_4/TiO_2 Nanotube Array Heterostructures显示文摘Well-ordered TiO_2 nanotube arrays(TNTAs)decorated with graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_3N_4) were fabricated by anodic oxidization and calcination process.First, TNTAs were prepared via the anodic oxidation of Ti foil in glycerol solution containing fluorinion and 20%deionized water. Subsequently, g-C_3N_4 film was hydrothermally grown on TNTAs via the hydrogen-bonded cyanuric acid melamine supramolecular complex. The results showed that g-C_3N_4 was successfully decorated on the TNTAs and the g-C_3N_4/TNTAs served as an efficient and stable photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting. 6Typhoon events recorded in coastal lagoon deposits,southeastern Hainan Island显示文摘Coastal lagoon deposits provide evidence for the magnitude and frequency of past tropical cyclones prior to instrumental records and historical documentation.In the present study,we attempt to analyze the sedimentary records containing typhoon information for the northern South China Sea region.For this purpose,sediment cores were collected from two coastal lagoons in the southeastern Hainan Island,and were analyzed in laboratory to derive the data sets about grain size,organic and inorganic carbon contents,and deposition rates.The grain size and organic-inorganic carbon data were used to formulate the proxies of typhoon events.The deposition rates,as calculated using the CRS 210 Pb method,are around 0.5 mm/a for both lagoons,on the basis of which an age model is established.Within the cores,sedimentary layers associated with 35 typhoon events have been identified.On such a basis,a 350 year history of local typhoon activities is reconstructed by incorporating the 210 Pb dating results,typhoon-induced sedimentation patterns and the historical documents.A comparison of the frequency of typhoon occurrence with the regional climate records indicates that the observed changes in tropical cyclone activity patterns,as revealed by the lagoon sedimentary records,may be related to El Ni?o,Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO),North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO),sunspot,and other potential climate drivers that affect the tropical cyclone variability.This study demonstrates that the sedimentary record of storms can be analyzed in combination with historical documents,to provide meaningful information on past storm activities and their long-term variability.ZHOU Liang GAO Shu YANG Yang ZHAO Yangyang HAN Zhuochen LI Gaocong JIA Peihong YIN Yong 2017Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,4:6
7Exosomal LINC00355 derived from cancer-associated fibroblasts promotes bladder cancer cell proliferation and invasion by regulating miR-15a-5p/HMGA2 axis显示文摘We have previously demonstrated that exosomes derived from cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)promote bladder cancer(BC)cell proliferation and invasion by transferring LINC00355.In this study,the molecular mechanisms underlying the pro-bladder cancer action of exosomal LINC00355 were explored.CAFs were obtained from BC tumor tissues,and normal fibroblasts(NFs)were obtained from adjacent normal tissues.Human BC cell lines(T24 and 5367)were incubated with NF-Exo(exosomes from NFs),CAF-Exo(exosomes from CAFs),CAFsi-Ctrl-Exo(exosomes from si-Ctrl-transfected CAFs),and CAFsi-LINC00355-Exo(exosomes from si-LINC00355-transfected CAFs).BC cell proliferation and invasion were evaluated by MTT and Transwell assays,respectively.The interaction between miR-15a-5p and LINC00355 or HMGA2 was examined by online bioinformatics analysis and luciferase activity assay.Results showed that HMGA2 is a direct target of miR-15a-5p,and LINC00355 functions as a sponge of miR-15a-5p to upregulate HMGA2 expression.The promoting effects of CAF-Exo on HMGA2 expression,cell proliferation,and cell invasion were hindered when LINC00355 expression was inhibited in BC cells.These promoting effects were also hindered when miR-15a-5p was overexpressed or HMGA2 was silenced in BC cells.In conclusion,exosomal LINC00355 derived from CAFs promotes BC cell proliferation and invasion by regulating miR-15a-5p/HMGA2 axis.Yangyang Zhang Guangyue Luo Shinian You Ligang Zhang Chaozhao Liang Xianguo Chen 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,6:4
8RNAi-mediated suppression of the abscisic acid catabolism gene Os ABA8ox1 increases abscisic acid content and tolerance to saline–alkaline stress in rice(Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘Saline–alkaline(SA) stress is characterized by high salinity and high alkalinity(high p H), which severely inhibit plant growth and cause huge losses in crop yields worldwide. Here we show that a moderate elevation of endogenous abscisic acid(ABA) levels by RNAi-mediated suppression of Os ABA8 ox1(Os ABA8 ox1-kd), a key ABA catabolic gene, significantly increased tolerance to SA stress in rice plants. We produced Os ABA8 ox1-kd lines in two different japonica cultivars, Dongdao 4 and Nipponbare. Compared with nontransgenic control plants(WT), the Os ABA8 ox1-kd seedlings accumulated 25.9%–55.7% higher levels of endogenous ABA and exhibited reduced plasmalemma injury, ROS accumulation and Na;/K;ratio, and higher survival rates, under hydroponic alkaline conditions simulated by 10, 15, and 20 mmol L-1 of Na;CO;. In pot trials using SA field soils of different alkali levels(p H 7.59, 8.86, and 9.29), Os ABA8 ox1–kd plants showed markedly higher seedling survival rates and more vigorous plant growth, resulting in significantly higher yield components including panicle number(85.7%–128.6%), spikelets per panicle(36.9%–61.9%), branches(153.9%–236.7%), 1000–kernel weight(20.0%–28.6%), and percentage of filled spikelets(96.6%–1340.8%) at harvest time. 9Current status and perspectives of regulatory T cell-based therapy显示文摘The CD4FOXP3regulatory T(Treg)cells are essential for maintaining immune homeostasis in healthy individuals.Results from clinical trials of Treg cell-based therapies in patients with graft versus host disease(GVHD),type 1 diabetes(T1D),liver transplantation,and kidney transplantation have demonstrated that adoptive transfer of Treg cells is emerging as a promising strategy to promote immune tolerance.Here we provide an overview of recent progresses and current challenges of Treg cell-based therapies.We summarize the completed and ongoing clinical trials with human Treg cells.Notably,a few of the chimeric antigen receptor(CAR)-Treg cell therapies are currently undergoing clinical trials.Meanwhile,we describe the new strategies for engineering Treg cells used in preclinical studies.Finally,we envision that the use of novel synthetic receptors,metabolic regulators,combined therapies,and in vivo generated antigen-specific or engineered Treg cells through the delivery of modified mRNA and CRISPR-based gene editing will further promote the advances of next-generation Treg cell therapies.Guojun Qu Jieqiong Chen Yangyang Li Yaqin Yuan Rui Liang Bin Li 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,7:3
10Chaos-enhanced moth-flame optimization algorithm for global optimization显示文摘Moth-flame optimization(MFO)is a novel metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the characteristics of a moth’s navigation method in nature called transverse orientation.Like other metaheuristic algorithms,it is easy to fall into local optimum and leads to slow convergence speed.The chaotic map is one of the best methods to improve exploration and exploitation of the metaheuristic algorithms.In the present study,we propose a chaos-enhanced MFO(CMFO)by incorporating chaos maps into the MFO algorithm to enhance its performance.The chaotic map is utilized to initialize the moths’population,handle the boundary overstepping,and tune the distance parameter.The CMFO is benchmarked on three groups of benchmark functions to find out the most efficient one.The performance of the CMFO is also verified by using two real engineering problems.The statistical results clearly demonstrate that the appropriate chaotic map(singer map)embedded in the appropriate component of MFO can significantly improve the performance of MFO.LI Hongwei LIU Jianyong CHEN Liang BAI Jingbo SUN Yangyang LU Kai 2019Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2019,30,6:3
11Low-temperature sintered(Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2))TiO_(3)-based incipient piezoceramics for co-fired multilayer actuator application显示文摘Low-temperature sintered(Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2))_(0.935)Ba_(0.065)Ti_(0.975)(Fe_(1/2)Nb_(1/2))_(0.025)O_(3)(NBT-BT-0.025FN)lead-free incipient piezoceramics were investigated using high-purity Li_(2)CO_(3) as sintering aids.With the ≤0.5 wt%Li_(2)CO_(3) addition,the introduced Li^(+) cations precede to enter the A-sites of the perovskite lattice to compensate for the A-site deficiencies.Once the addition exceeds 0.5 wt%,the excess Lit cations will occupy B-sites and give rise to the generation of oxygen vacancies,which accelerate the mass transport and thus lower the sintering temperature effectively from 1100℃ down to 925℃.It was also found that a small amount of Lit addition has little effect on the phase structure and electromechanical properties of the system,but overweight seriously disturbs these characteristics because of the large lattice distortion.The sintered NBT-BT-0.025FN incipient piezoceramics with 1.25 wt%Li_(2)CO_(3) addition at 925℃ provides a large strain of 0.33% and a corresponding large signal piezoelectric coefficient d_(33)^(*) of 550 pm/V at 60 kV/cm,indicating this system is a very promising candidate for lead-free co-fired multilayer actuator application.Pengyuan Fan Yangyang Zhang Shan-Tao Zhang Bing Xie Yiwei Zhu Mohsin Ali Marwat Weigang Ma Kai Liu Liang Shu Haibo Zhang 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,3:3
12Abundance and diversity of ammonia-oxidizing archaea in response to various habitats in Pearl River Delta of China, a subtropical maritime zone显示文摘Ammonia-oxidizing archaea(AOA) are widely considered key to ammonia oxidation in various environments.However,little work has been conducted to simultaneously investigate the abundance and diversity of AOA as well as correlations between archaeal amoA genotypes and environmental parameters of different ecosystems at one district.To understand the abundance,diversity,and distribution of AOA in Pearl River Delta of China in response to various habitats,the archaeal amoA genes in soil,marine,river,lake,hot spring and wastewater treatment plant(WWTP) samples were investigated using real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR and clone libraries.Our analyses indicated that the diversity of AOA in various habitats was different and could be clustered into five major clades,i.e.,estuary sediment,marine water/sediment,soil,hot spring and Cluster 1.Phylogenetic analyses revealed that the structure of AOA communities in similar ecological habitats exhibited strong relation.The canonical correspondence method indicated that the AOA community structure was strongly correlated to temperature,pH,total organic carbon,total nitrogen and dissolved oxygen variables.Assessing AOA amoA gene copy numbers,ranging from 6.84 × 106 to 9.45 × 107 copies/g in dry soil/sediment,and 6.06 × 106 to 2.41 × 107 copies/L in water samples,were higher than ammonia-oxidizing bacteria(AOB) by 1-2 orders of magnitude.However,AOA amoA copy numbers were much lower than AOB in WWTP activated sludge samples.Overall,these studies suggested that AOA may be a major contributor to ammonia oxidation in natural habitats but play a minor role in highly aerated activated sludge.The result also showed the ratio of AOA to AOB amoA gene abundance was positively correlated with temperature and less correlated with other environmental parameters.New data from our study provide increasing evidence for the relative abundance and diversity of ammonia-oxidizing archaea in the global nitrogen cycle.Zhixin Li Wenbiao Jin Zhaoyun Liang Yangyang Yue Junhong Lv 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:3
13CHD3 chromatin-remodeling factor PICKLE regulates floral transition partially via modulating LEAFY expression at the chromatin level in Arabidopsis显示文摘PICKLE(PKL), a putative CHD3 chromatin remodeling factor, has been suggested to be involved in multiple processes in Arabidopsis. Here, we confirmed the late-flowering phenotype caused by pkl mutation with pkl mutants in two different ecotypes, and investigated the possible mechanisms that account for PKL regulation of flowering time. Quantitative RT-PCR and RNA-seq assays showed that expression of the LEAFY gene(LFY) and a number of LFY-regulated floral homeotic genes were down-regulated in seedlings of the pkl mutants. As predicted, overexpression of LFY restored normal flowering time of pkl mutants. Our results suggest that PKL may be involved in regulating flowering time via LFY expression. To uncover the underlying mechanism, Ch IP-PCR using anti-PKL was performed on materials from three developmental stages of seedlings. Our results showed that PKL associated with the genomic sequences of LFY, particularly at 10-day and 25-day after germination. We also showed that loss of PKL affected H3K27me3 level at the promoter of LFY. 14Reconstructing Environmental Changes of a Coastal Lagoon with Coral Reefs in Southeastern Hainan Island显示文摘Coastal lagoons with small catchment basins are highly sensitive to natural processes and anthropogenic activities. To figure out the environmental changes of a coastal lagoon and its contribution to carbon burial, two sediment cores were collected in Xincun Lagoon, southeastern Hainan Island and (210) ~Pb activities, grain size parameters, total organic carbon(TOC), total nitrogen(TN), total inorganic carbon(TIC) and stable carbon isotopes(δ^(13)C) were measured. The results show that in 1770–1815, the decreasing water exchange capacity with outer open water, probably caused by the shifting and narrowing of the tidal inlet, not only diminished the currents and fined the sediments in the lagoon, but also reduced the organic matter of marine sources. From 1815 to 1950, the sedimentary environment of Xincun Lagoon was frequently influenced by storm events. These extreme events resulted in the high fluctuation of sediment grain size and sorting, as well as the great variation in contributions of terrestrial(higher plants, soils) and marine sources(phytoplankton, algae, seagrass). The extremely high content of TIC, compared to TOC before 1950 could be attributed to the large-scale coverage of coral reefs. However, with the boost of seawater aquaculture activities after 1970, the health growth of coral species was severely threatened, and corresponding production and inorganic carbon burial flux reduced. The apparent enhanced inorganic carbon burial rate after 1990 might result from the concomitant carbonate debris produced by seawater aquaculture. 15Study on the optimization of the combined blown converter process in Chongqing Iron and Steel Company显示文摘The effects of lance height and bottom blown flowrate on the mixed time,the splashing amount,the penetrating depth,and the level fluctuation of an 85 t combined blown converter have been studied using a water model.The results show that the maximal stirring energy is provided to the bath at the top lance height of about 50-100 mm.When the top lance height is in the range of 90- 110 mm,the splashing amount caused by the top jet can reach the maximal value.The appropriate operational parameters of Chongqing Iron and Steel Company(CISC)converter have been established that the top lance height is 1600-1760 mm and the bot- tom blowing flowrate is 240-480 Nm^3/h in the primary phase of a heat,1100-1300 mm and 160-200 Nm^3/h in the second phase,and 1040-1120 mm and 200-350 Nm^3/h in the end phase.Also,the trial shows that the metallurgical result of the studied blow pattern is better than that of the former pattern.At the starting 3-4 min of a heat,the strong splashing is eliminated.Ping Tang Yangyang Yu Guanghua Wen Mingmei Zhu Liang Zhou Yiju Long Qing Liang 2008Journal of University of Science and Technology Beijing2008,15,1:2

17Repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic on solid waste generation and management strategies显示文摘It has been over ten months since the beginning of the 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-2019),and its impact on solid waste management,especially medical waste,is becoming clearer.This study systematically reviews the potential influences of the COVID-19 pandemic on medical waste,personal protection equipment waste and municipal solid waste(MSW),and discusses the corresponding measures and policies of solid waste management in typical countries.The results show that the generation of medical waste from the pandemic increased significantly,with 18%‒425%growth.It is estimated that the daily output of COVID-19 medical waste increased from 200 t/d on Feb.22 to over 29000 t/d at the end of September 2020 throughout the world.The use of personal protective equipment will continue to grow in the long-term,while the blockade and isolation measures greatly reduced the volume of commercial waste,especially for tourist cities,and part of this waste was transferred to household waste.Residents’attitudes and behavior toward food waste have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.In response to the pandemic,international organizations and several countries have issued new policies and guidelines and adjusted their management strategies for medical waste and MSW treatment.The pandemic has brought specific challenges to the disposal capacity of medical waste worldwide.It has also brought about the stagnation of policies related to the reduction of plastic products and waste recycling.This study will provide some useful information for managers and governmental officials on effective solid waste management during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.Yangyang Liang Qingbin Song Naiqi Wu Jinhui Li Yuan Zhong Wenlei Zeng 2021Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2021,15,6:1
18Engineering immune-responsive biomaterials for skin regeneration显示文摘The progress of biomaterials and tissue engineering has led to significant advances in wound healing,but the clinical therapy to regenerate perfect skin remains a great challenge.The implantation of biomaterial scaffolds to heal wounds inevitably leads to a host immune response.Many recent studies revealed that the immune system plays a significant role in both the healing process and the outcome.Immunomodulation or immuno-engineering has thus become a promising approach to develop pro-regenerative scaffolds for perfect skin regeneration.In this paper,we will review recent advancements in immunomodulating biomaterials in the field of skin repair and regeneration,and discuss strategies to modulate the immune response by tailoring the chemical,physical and biological properties of the biomaterials.Understanding the important role of immune responses and manipulating the inherent properties of biomaterials to regulate the immune reaction are approaches to overcome the current bottleneck of skin repair and regeneration.Pingli Wu Yangyang Liang Guoming Sun 2021Biomaterials Translational2021,2,1:1
