1The discovery of annually laminated sediments (varves) from shallow Sugan Lake in inland arid China and their paleoclimatic significance显示文摘Detailed examination of sedimentary cores retrieved from Sugan Lake in the northern Qaidam Basin of northwest China’s Tibetan Plateau reveal that fine laminated beddings form in the sediments where water depth exceeds 3 m. Seasonal surface sediments trapped at the bottom of the lake suggest that sediments deposited during summer and autumn are mainly light colored monohydrocalcites, while those deposited in winter are dark organic matter, indicating that varve layers form under modern limnological conditions. Continuous varve sediments comprising four types have accumulated in the upper 5.5 m of Core SG03I from the center of the lake. All types exhibit clear seasonality indicative of annual deposition. Varve counts correspondence with 210Pb dates on recent sediments in the upper core suggest the continuous varves of the upper 5.5 m of the core formed in the late Holocene (2670 a BP). 3Emerging roles of activating transcription factor (ATF) family members in tumourigenesis and immunity: Implications in cancer immunotherapy显示文摘Activating transcription factors, ATFs, are a group of bZIP transcription factors that act as homodimers or heterodimers with a range of other bZIP factors. In general, ATFs respond to extracellular signals, indicating their important roles in maintaining homeostasis. The ATF family includes ATF1, ATF2, ATF3, ATF4, ATF5, ATF6, and ATF7. Consistent with the diversity of cellular processes reported to be regulated by ATFs, the functions of ATFs are also diverse. ATFs play an important role in cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation and inflammation-related pathological processes. The expression and phosphorylation status of ATFs are also related to neurodegenerative diseases and polycystic kidney disease. Various miRNAs target ATFs to regulate cancer proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy, sensitivity and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Moreover, ATFs are necessary to maintain cell redox homeostasis. Therefore, deepening our understanding of the regulation and function of ATFs will provide insights into the basic regulatory mechanisms that influence how cells integrate extracellular and intracellular signals into genomic responses through transcription factors. Under pathological conditions, especially in cancer biology and response to treatment, the characterization of ATF dysfunction is important for understanding how to therapeutically utilize ATF2 or other pathways controlled by transcription factors. 4Association oftransforming growth factor-β1 gene variants with risk of coal workers'pneumoconiosis显示文摘Objective:The aim of this case-control study was to explore whether five tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms(tSNPs)within the transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)gene were involved in manifestation of inflammatory and fibrotic processes associated with coal workers'pneumoconiosis(CWP).Methods:The study included 508 CWP patients and 526 controls who were underground coal miners from Xuzhou Mining Business Group.Five tSNPs were selected from the HapMap and detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP)method.Results:The single SNP analysis showed that the genotype frequencies of SNP2(rs1800470,+869T/C,extron 1)and SNP5(rs11466345,intron 5)in CWP cases were sig- nificantly different from those in controls.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that SNP2(rs1800470) CC genotype was associated with decreased risk of CWP(OR=0.50,95%CI=0.32-0.78),which was evident among subgroups of those never smoke(OR=0.40,95%CI=0.24-0.66),cases with stageⅡ(OR=0.41,95%CI =0.22-0.76)and exposure period(<28 y:OR=0.54,95%CI=0.31-0.95;≥28 y:OR=0.52,95%CI=0.32-0.96). 5Electron-transfer enhanced MoO2-Ni heterostructures as a highly efficient pH-universal catalyst for hydrogen evolution显示文摘Hydrogen is one of the most promising energy carriers to replace fossil fuels and electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen is a very effective method.However,designing highly active and stable non-precious metal hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts that can be used in universal pH is a huge challenge.Here,we have reported a simple strategy to develop a highly active and durable non-precious MoO2-Ni electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in a wide pH range.The MoO2-Ni catalyst exhibits a superior electrocatalytic performance with low overpotentials of 46,69,and 84 mV to reach-10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH,0.5 M H2SO4,and 1.0 M PBS electrolytes,respectively.At the same time,the catalyst also shows outstanding stability over a wide pH range.It is particularly noted that the catalytic performance of MoO2-Ni in alkaline solution is comparable to the highest performing catalysts reported.The outstanding HER performance is mainly attributed to the collective effect of the rational morphological design,electronic structure engineering,and strong interfacial coupling between MoO2 and Ni in heterojunctions.This work provides a viable method for the synthesis of inexpensive and efficient HER electrocatalysts for the use in wide pH ranges.Benzhi Wang Hexiu Huang Meilin Huang Puxuan Yan Tayirjan Taylor Isimjan Xiulin Yang 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,6:3

8Tree ring based drought variability in Northwest Tajikistan since 1895 AD显示文摘Determining the mechanisms controlling the changes of wet and dry conditions will improve our understanding of climate change over the past hundred years,which is of great significance to the study of climate and environmental changes in the arid regions of Central Asia.Forest trees are ecologically significant in the local environment,and therefore the tree ring analysis can provide a clear record of regional historical climate.This study analyzed the correlation between the tree ring width chronology of Juniperus turkestanica Komarov and the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI)in Northwest Tajikistan,based on 56 tree ring samples collected from Shahristan in the Pamir region.Climate data including precipitation,temperature and the SPEI were downloaded from the Climate Research Unit(CRU)TS 4.00.The COFECHA program was used for cross-dating,and the ARSTAN program was used to remove the growth trend of the tree itself and the influence of non-climatic factors on the growth of the trees.A significant correlation was found between the radial growth of J.turkestanica trees and the monthly mean SPEI of February–April.The monthly mean SPEI sequence of February–April during the period of 1895–2016 was reconstructed,and the reconstruction equation explained 42.5%of the variance.During the past 122 a(1895–2016),the study area has experienced three wetter periods(precipitation above average):1901–1919,1945–1983 and 1995–2010,and four drier periods(precipitation below average):1895–1900,1920–1944,1984–1994 and 2011–2016.The spatial correlation analysis revealed that the monthly mean SPEI reconstruction sequence of February–April could be used to characterize the large-scale dry-wet variations in Northwest Tajikistan during the period of 1895–2016.This study could provide comparative data for validating the projections of climate models and scientific basis for managing water resources in Tajikistan in the context of climate change.YANG Meilin YU Yang ZHANG Haiyan WANG Qian GAN Miao YU Ruide 2020Journal of Arid Land2020,12,3:2

10Factors Influencing Diurnal Variations of Cloud and Precipitation in the Yushu Area of the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Using the cloud radar,ground observations,and ECMWF Reanalysis v5(ERA5)data,we investigate the factors influencing nighttime precipitation during summer in the Yushu area of the Tibetan Plateau(TP).The cloud top height(CTH),cloud base height(CBH),and liquid water content(LWC)are compared between non-precipitation and precipitation days.The results show that the average CTH on precipitation days in Yushu is below 10 km above ground level(AGL)in the daytime,whereas it exceeds 10 km AGL at night,with the maximum at 2300 BT(Beijing Time).The CBH is in-phase with the dewpoint spread.The precipitation intensity and CTH are in-phase with the LWC.The hourly averaged precipitation intensity and convective available potential energy in ERA5 reach their maximums at2100 BT,which is 3 h ahead of their observed counterparts.There is descending motion in the mid day on non-precipitation days,whereas there is ascending motion at night on precipitation days.In addition,the horizontal wind direction in the lower level(below 5000 m)shows clockwise rotation from morning to night.Wind shear occurs in the mid level of the atmosphere,accompanied by a subtropical westerly jet in the upper level.The difference in horizontal wind speed between 200 and 500 hPa is positively related to the LWC,thereby contributing to the formation of upper-level cloud.Bangjun CAO Shihua LYU Yu ZHANG Xianyu YANG Boliang LI Liang YUAN Meilin LI 2022Journal of Meteorological Research2022,36,2:2

12Distribution of functional microorganisms and its significance for iron, sulphur, and nitrogen cycles in reservoir sediments显示文摘The biogeochemical cycles of sulphur(S),iron(Fe)and nitrogen(N)elements play a key role in the reservoir ecosystem.However,the spatial positioning and interrelationship of S,Fe and N cycles in the reservoir sediment profile have not been explored to a greater extent.Here,we measure the gradients of Fe^(2+),SO_(4)^(2-),NO_(3)^(-),NH_(4)^(+),DOC,TC and TN in the pore water of the sediment,and combining the vertical distribution of the functional microorganisms involved in S,Fe and N cyclings in the sediments to determine the redox stratification in the sediment.It is found that the geochemical gradient of S,Fe and N of the reservoir sedimentary column is mainly defined by the redox process involved in the related functional microorganisms.According to the type of electron acceptor,the sediment profile is divided into 3 redox intervals,namely aerobic respiration(0–10 cm),denitrification/iron reduction(10–28 cm)and sulfate reduction(28–32 cm).In the aerobic respiration zone,NH_(4)^(+)is oxidized by aerobic AOB to NO_(3)^(-)(0–5 cm),and Fe^(2+)is oxidized by microaerobic FeRB to Fe^(3+)(3–10 cm).In the denitrification/iron reduction zone,Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas,as the dominant NRB genera,may use nitrate as an electron acceptor to oxidize Fe^(2+)(11–16 cm).The dominant genera in SOB,such as Sulfururvum,Thiobacillus and Thioalkalispira,may use nitrate as an electron acceptor to oxidize sulfide,leading to SO_(4)^(2-)accumulation(14–24 cm).In the sulfate reduction zone,SO_(4)^(2-)is reduced by SRB.This study found that functional microorganisms forming comprehensive local ecological structures to adapt to changing geochemical conditions,and which would be potentially important for the degradation and preservation of C and the fate of many nutrients and contaminants in reservoirs.Shuang Bai Meilin Yang Zheng Chen Ming Yang Jing Ma Xue-Ping Chen Fushun Wang 2021Acta Geochimica2021,40,6:1
13LSM-infiltrated LSCF cathodes for solid oxide fuel cells显示文摘Mixed ionic-electronic conductors in the family of LaxSr1-x CoyFe1-yO3-δ have been widely studied as cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).However,the long-term stability was a concern.Here we report our findings on the effect of a thin film coating of La0.85Sr0.15 MnO3-δ (LSM) on the performance of a porous La0.6 Sr0.4 Co0.2 Fe0.8 O3-δ (LSCF) cathode.When the thicknesses of the LSM coatings are appropriate,an LSM-coated LSCF electrode showed better stability and lower polarization (or higher activity) than the blank LSCF cathode without LSM infiltration.An anode-supported cell with an LSM-infiltrated LSCF cathode demonstrated at 825℃ a peak power density of ~1.07 W/cm 2,about 24% higher than that of the same cell without LSM infiltration (~0.86 W/cm 2).Further,the LSM coating enhanced the stability of the electrode;there was little degradation in performance for the cell with an LSM-infiltrated LSCF cathode during 100 h operation.Ze Liu Mingfei Liu Lei Yang Meilin Liu 2013Journal of Energy Chemistry2013,22,4:1

15Oxygen defect-rich double-layer hierarchical porous Co3O4 arrays as high-efficient oxygen evolution catalyst for overall water splitting显示文摘Construction of oxygen evolution electrocatalysts with abundant oxygen defects and large specific surface areas can significantly improve the conversion efficiency of overall water splitting.Herein,we adopt a controlled method to prepare oxygen defect-rich double-layer hierarchical porous Co3O4 arrays on nickel foam(DL-Co3O4/NF)for water splitting.The unique array-like structure,crystallinity,porosity,and chemical states have been carefully investigated through SEM,TEM,XRD,BET,and XPS techniques.The designated DL-Co3O4/NF has oxygen defects of up to 67.7%and a large BET surface area(57.4 m2g-1).Electrochemical studies show that the catalyst only requires an overpotential of 256 mV to reach 20 mA cm-2,as well as a small Tafel slope of 60.8 mV dec-1,which is far better than all control catalysts.Besides,the catalyst also demonstrates excellent overall water splitting performance in a two-electrode system and good long-term stability,far superior to most previously reported catalysts.Electrocatalytic mechanisms indicate that abundant oxygen vacancies provide more active sites and good conductivity.At the same time,the unique porous arrays facilitate electrolyte transport and gas emissions,thereby synergistically improving OER catalytic performance.Puxuan Yan Meilin Huang Benzhi Wang Zixia Wan Mancai Qian Hu Yan Tayirjan Taylor Isimjan Jianniao Tian Xiulin Yang 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,8:1
