| 1 | Cancer statistics in China and United States,2022:profiles,trends,and determinants显示文摘Background:The cancer burden in the United States of America(USA)has decreased gradually.However,China is experiencing a transition in its cancer profiles,with greater incidence of cancers that were previously more common in the USA.This study compared the latest cancer profiles,trends,and determinants between China and USA.Methods:This was a comparative study using open-source data.Cancer cases and deaths in 2022 were calculated using cancer estimates from GLOBOCAN 2020 and population estimates from the United Nations.Trends in cancer incidence and mortality rates in the USA used data from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results program and National Center for Health Statistics.Chinese data were obtained from cancer registry reports.Data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 and a decomposition method were used to express cancer deaths as the product of four determinant factors.Results:In 2022,there will be approximately 4,820,000 and 2,370,000 new cancer cases,and 3,210,000 and 640,000 cancer deaths in China and the USA,respectively.The most common cancers are lung cancer in China and breast cancer in the USA,and lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both.Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates for lung cancer and colorectal cancer in the USA have decreased significantly recently,but rates of liver cancer have increased slightly.Rates of stomach,liver,and esophageal cancer decreased gradually in China,but rates have increased for colorectal cancer in the whole population,prostate cancer in men,and other seven cancer types in women.Increases in adult population size and population aging were major determinants for incremental cancer deaths,and case-fatality rates contributed to reduced cancer deaths in both countries.Conclusions:The decreasing cancer burden in liver,stomach,and esophagus,and increasing burden in lung,colorectum,breast,and prostate,mean that cancer profiles in China and the USA are converging.Population aging is a growing determinant of incremental cancer burden.Progress in cancer prevention and care in the USA,and measures to actively respond to population aging,may help China to reduce the cancer burden. | Changfa Xia Xuesi Dong He Li Maomao Cao Dianqin Sun Siyi He Fan Yang Xinxin Yan Shaoli Zhang Ni Li Wanqing Chen | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,5: | 827 |
| 2 | Defined tumor antigen-specific T cells potentiate personalized TCR-T cell therapy and prediction of immunotherapy response显示文摘Personalized immunotherapy targeting tumor-specific antigens(TSAs)could generate efficient and safe antitumor immune response without damaging normal tissues.Although neoantigen vaccines have shown therapeutic effect in clinic trials,precise prediction of neoantigens from tumor mutations is still challenging.The host antitumor immune response selects and activates T cells recognizing tumor antigens.Hence,T cells engineered with T-cell receptors(TCRs)from these naturally occurring tumor antigen-specific T(Tas)cells in a patient will target personal TSAs in his/her tumor.To establish such a personalized TCR-T cell therapy,we comprehensively characterized T cells in tumor and its adjacent tissues by single-cell mRNA sequencing(scRNA-seq),TCR sequencing(TCR-seq)and in vitro neoantigen stimulation.Compared to bystander T cells circulating among tissues,Tas cells were characterized by tumor enrichment,tumor-specific clonal expansion and neoantigen specificity.We found that CXCL13 is a unique marker for both CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)Tas cells.Importantly,TCR-T cells expressing TCRs from Tas cells showed significant therapeutic effects on autologous patient-derived xenograft(PDX)tumors.Intratumoral Tas cell levels measured by CXCL13 expression precisely predicted the response to immune checkpoint blockade,indicating a critical role of Tas cells in the antitumor immunity.We further identified CD200 and ENTPD1 as surface markers for CD4^(^(+))and CD8^(^(+))Tas cells respectively,which enabled the isolation of Tas cells from tumor by Fluorescence Activating Cell Sorter(FACS)sorting.Overall,our results suggest that TCR-T cells engineered with Tas TCRs are a promising agent for personalized immunotherapy,and intratumoral Tas cell levels determine the response to immunotherapy. | Jingjing He Xinxin Xiong Han Yang Dandan Li Xuefei Liu Shuo Li Shuangye Liao Siyu Chen Xizhi Wen Kuai Yu Lingyi Fu Xingjun Dong Kaiyu Zhu Xiaojun Xia Tiebang Kang Chaochao Bian Xiang Li Haiping Liu Peirong Ding Xiaoshi Zhang Zhenjiang Liu Wende Li Zhixiang Zuo Penghui Zhou | 2022 | Cell Research2022,32,6: | 10 |

| 5 | Prehistoric agriculture development in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, southwest China: Archaeobotanical evidence显示文摘The origin, development and expansion of prehistoric agriculture in East Asia have been widely investigated over the past two decades using archaeobotanical analysis from excavated Neolithic and Bronze Age sites. Research on prehistoric agriculture has predominantly focused in the valleys of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. Agricultural development during the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau of southwest China, an important passageway for human migration into Southeast Asia, still remains unclear. In this paper, based on macrofossil and microfossil analysis and radiocarbon dating at the Shilinggang site, we investigate plant subsistence strategies in the Nujiang River valley during the Bronze Age period. Combined with previous archaeobotanical studies in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, we explore agricultural development processes in this area during the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Our results indicate that rice and foxtail millet were cultivated in Shilinggang around 2500 cal a BP. Three phases of prehistoric agricultural development in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau can be identified: rice cultivation from 4800–3900 cal a BP, mixed rice and millet crop(foxtail millet and broomcorn millet) cultivation from 3900–3400 cal a BP, and mixed rice, millet crop and wheat cultivation from 3400–2300 cal a BP. | 8 | Monoamine alterations and rotational asymmetry in a rat model of Parkinson's disease following lateral ventricle transplantation of human amniotic epithelial cells显示文摘BACKGROUND: Human amniotic epithelial cells (HAECs) can differentiate into neurons, astrocytes,and oligodendrocytes. They biologically secrete many active neurotrophins and have the capacity tometabolize dopamine enzymes. These features underlie a theoretical basis for the treatment ofParkinson's disease (PD).OBJECTIVE: To investigate the survival and differentiation of transplanted HAECs in the lateralventricle of PD model rats, and to explore its effect on circling behavior, as well as levels ofdopamine (DA), the metabolite homovanillic acid, dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid,5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, and 5-hydroxytryptamine in the striatum.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled, animal study was performed at theInstitute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences, ChineseAcademy of Sciences, and Shanghai Celstar Institute of Biotechnology from May 2007 to December2008.MATERIALS: HAECs were derived from the placental chorion following caesarean delivery at theShanghai International Maternal and Child Health Hospital. 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), andmouse anti-human Vimentin monoclonal antibody were purchased from Sigma, USA; mouseanti-human nestin and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) monoclonal antibodies were purchased fromChemicon, USA.METHODS: A total of 114 healthy, adult, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to twogroups: PD model [n = 90, stereotactic microinjection of 2 μL 6-OHDA (3.5 μg/μL) into the striatum]and control (n = 24, no treatment). The 51 successful PD model rats were randomly divided into 3subgroups (n = 17): HAEC, PBS, and model. The HAEC and PBS groups were respectively injectedwith 10 μL PBS solution containing 1 x 105/mL HAECs or 10 μL PBS into the lateral ventricle. Themodel group was not treated.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: TH protein expression in the striatum was evaluated byimmunohistochemistry 5 weeks after HAEC transplantation. At 10 weeks, HAEC survival in thelateral ventricle was investigated by immunofluorescent staining; differentiation of HAECs in thelateral and third ventricles was examined by TH immunohistochemistry; concentrations of DA,homovanillic acid, dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, and 5-hydroxytryptaminein the striatum, as well as DA concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid, were measured withhigh-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical detection. Circling behavior of PD modelrats was consecutively observed for 10 weeks following intraperitoneal injection of amphetamine 1week after successful model establishment.RESULTS: In the HAEC group, the number of TH-positive cells significantly increased in thestriatum, and circling behavior significantly decreased, compared with the PBS and model groups(P < 0.01). In addition, monoamine concentrations in the striatum, as well as DA concentrations inthe cerebrospinal fluid, significantly increased, compared with the PBS group (P < 0.05-0.01 ).Moreover, a large number of nestin-, vimentin-, and TH-positive cells were observed in the lateraland third ventricles following HAEC injection. CONCLUSION: HAECs survived for 10 weeks with no overgrowth following transplantation into thelateral ventricle of PD model rats. Moreover, the cells differentiated into dopaminergic neurons,which increased DA secretion. | 13 | Synchronous drying and cooling in central Asia duringlate Oligocene显示文摘Aridification of central Asia during late Oligocene and Early Miocene has been documented by numerous eolian records from the North Pacific and central Asia. However, direct evidence of aridity from the interior of the arid zone is still rather scarce. To better reconstruct the climate history in central Asia during the late Oligocene, we have analyzed ostracod assemblages and gypsum content in the sediments from the lacustrine Jingou River section in the northern Tianshan Mountains. Our results show that the cold water species Candona cf. Neglecta and Pseudocandona albicans replaced the warm water species Ilyocypris bradyi and Ilyocypris sp. to become the dominant species at 23.8 Ma, indicating significant cooling in central Asia at that time. At the same time, a substantial increase in gypsum content indicates the intensification of central Asian drying. | 14 | Van der Waals epitaxy of ultrathin crystalline PbTe nanosheets with high near-infrared photoelectric response显示文摘Lead telluride(PbTe)is one of the reliable candidates for infrared(IR)optoelectronics with optimum band-gap as well as excellent photoelectric properties.Great interests had been paid on the growth and device applications with PbTe for the development of high-performance IR photodetectors especially those working in the near-infrared regime.Although a great deal of effort had been made to prepare PbTe nanostructures for miniaturized detectors,it is difficult to synthesize high-quality two-dimensional(2D)PbTe crystals due to its rock-salt non-layered structure.Herein,a facile strategy for controllable synthesis of ultrathin crystalline PbTe nanosheets by van der Waals epitaxy is reported.With an optimized growth temperature,which determines the morphology transit from triangular pyramid islands to regular square 2D planars,PbTe nanosheets in lateral size of tens of microns with thickness down to~7 nm are achieved.Meanwhile,ultrasensitive near-infrared detectors(NIRDs)based on the as-grown 2D PbTe nanosheets have been demonstrated with an ultrahigh responsivity exceeding 3,847 A/W at the wavelength of 1,550 nm under room temperature.Our approach demonstrates that 2D PbTe nanosheets have great latent capacity of developing high-performance miniaturized IR optoelectronic devices. | Xinxin Zhao Qing Yin Hao Huang Qiang Yu Bo Liu Jie Yang Zhuo Dong Zhenjiang Shen Benpeng Zhu Lei Liao Kai Zhang | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,6: | 3 |
| 15 | Research on the Relationship between Grain Composition and Repose Angle of Coal Gangue in Dongkuang Mine, Heshan City, Guangxi, China显示文摘Heshan, a city in Southwest China, has been built over an old coal mining area. Due to low level of reclamation, coal gangue had been stacked in large heaps and caused geological environmental problems. To facilitate designing management project of coal gangue, we made an investigation of the largest coal gangue heap in Dongkuang Mine of Heshan. Firstly, the grain composition of coal gangue was estimated through the sieving method, then the representative grading curve was drawn through the statistics method of coarse grain content, and lastly the relationship between the repose angle and grain grading was studied by piling up coal gangue with different mix proportion. The result indicates that there is a wider range of grain size in the upper part of coal gangue heap, and the representative grain grading is well graded and easy to be compacted as filling materials. Besides, the wavy relationship curve of repose angle and coarse grain content shows that the content of 70% is the inflection point of ascent stage and 85% the inflection point of descent stage of the repose angle. | 18 | The East Asian Monsoon since the Last Glacial Maximum:Evidence from geological records in northern China显示文摘The impact of global warming on the climate of northern China has been investigated intensively, and the behavior of the East Asian monsoon during previous intervals of climatic warming may provide insight into future changes. In this study, we use paleovegetation records from loess and lake sediments in the marginal zone of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) to reconstruct the EASM during the interval of warming from the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM) to the Holocene. The results show that during the LGM, desert steppe or dry steppe dominated much of northern China;in addition, the southeastern margin of the deserts east of the Helan Mountains had a distribution similar to that of the present-day, or was located slightly further south, due to the cold and dry climate caused by a strengthened East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) and weakened EASM. During the last deglaciation, with the strengthening of the EASM and concomitant weakening of the EAWM, northern China gradually became humid. However, this trend was interrupted by abrupt cooling during the Heinrich 1(H1) and Younger Dryas(YD) events. The EASM intensified substantially during the Holocene, and the monsoon rain belt migrated at least 300 km northwestwards, which led to the substantial shrinking of the desert area in the central and eastern part of northern China, and to the large expansion of plants favored by warm and humid conditions. Paleoclimatic records from the marginal zone of the EASM all show that the EASM reached its peak in the mid-Holocene, and past global climatic warming significantly strengthened the EASM, thereby greatly improving the ecological environment in northern China. Thus, northern China is expected to become wetter as global warming continues. | 20 | Quantification of groundwater recharge and evapotranspiration along a semi-arid wetland transect using diurnal water table fluctuations显示文摘Groundwater is a vital water resource in arid and semi-arid areas.Diurnal groundwater table fluctuations are widely used to quantify rainfall recharge and groundwater evapotranspiration(ET_(g)).To assess groundwater resources for sustainable use,we estimated groundwater recharge and ET_(g) using the diurnal water table fluctuations at three sites along a section with different depths to water table(DWT)within a wetland of the Mukai Lake in the Ordos Plateau,Northwest China.The water table level was monitored at an hourly resolution using a Keller DCX-22 A data logger that measured both the total pressure and barometric pressure,so that the effect of barometric pressure could be removed.At this study site,a rapid water table response to rainfall was observed in two shallow wells(i.e.,Obs1 and Obs2),at which diurnal water table fluctuations were also observed over the study period during rainless days,indicating that the main factors influencing water table variation are rainfall and ET_(g).However,at the deep-water table site(Obs3),the groundwater level only reacted to the heaviest rainfalls and showed no diurnal variations.Groundwater recharge and ET_(g) were quantified for the entire hydrological year(June 2017–June 2018)using the water table fluctuation method and the Loheide method,respectively,with depth-dependent specific yields.The results show that the total annual groundwater recharge was approximately 207 mm,accounting for 52%of rainfall at Obs1,while groundwater recharge was approximately 250 and 21 mm at Obs2 and Obs3,accounting for 63%and 5%of rainfall,respectively.In addition,the rates of groundwater recharge were mainly determined by rainfall intensity and DWT.The daily mean ET_(g) at Obs1 and Obs2 over the study period was 4.3 and 2.5 mm,respectively,and the main determining factors were DWT and net radiation. | JIA Wuhui YIN Lihe ZHANG Maosheng ZHANG Xinxin ZHANG Jun TANG Xiaoping DONG Jiaqiu | 2021 | Journal of Arid Land2021,13,5: | 1 |
