| 1 | Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder in China:A Nationwide Multi-center Population-based Study Among Children Aged 6 to 12 Years显示文摘This study aimed to obtain the first national estimate of the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder(ASD) in Chinese children.We targeted the population of 6 to 12-year-old children for this prevalence study by multistage convenient cluster sampling.The Modified Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scale was used for the screening process.Of the target population of 142,086 children,88.5%(n=125,806) participated in the study.A total of 363 children were confirmed as having ASD.The observed ASD prevalence rate was 0.29%(95% CI:0.26%-0.32%) for the overall population.After adjustment for response rates,the estimated number of ASD cases was867 in the target population sample,thereby achieving an estimated prevalence of 0.70%(95% CI:0.64%-0.74%).The prevalence was significantly higher in boys than in girls(0.95%;95% CI:0.87%-1.02% versus 0.30%;95%CI:0.26%-0.34%;P <0.001).Of the 363 confirmed ASD cases,43.3% were newly diagnosed,and most of those(90.4%) were attending regular schools,and 68.8% of the children with ASD had at least one neuropsychiatric comorbidity.Our findings provide reliable data on the estimated ASD prevalence and comorbidities in Chinese children. | Hao Zhou Xiu Xu Weili Yan Xiaobing Zou Lijie Wu Xuerong Luo Tingyu Li Yi Huang Hongyan Guan Xiang Chen Meng Mao Kun Xia Lan Zhang Erzhen Li Xiaoling Ge Lili Zhang Chunpei Li Xudong Zhang Yuanfeng Zhou Ding Ding Andy Shih Eric Fombonne Yi Zheng Jisheng Han Zhongsheng Sun Yong-hui Jiang Yi Wang LATENT-NHC Study Team | 2020 | Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,9: | 158 |

| 4 | The fate of medications evaluated for ischemic stroke pharmacotherapy over the period 1995–2015显示文摘Stroke is a brain damage caused by a loss of blood supply to a portion of the brain, which requires prompt and effective treatment. The current pharmacotherapy for ischemic stroke primarily relies on thrombolysis using recombinant tissue plasminogen activators(rt-PAs) to breakdown blood clots. Neuroprotective agents that inhibit excitatory neurotransmitters are also used to treat ischemic stroke but have failed to translate into clinical benefits. This poses a major challenge in biomedical research to understand what causes the progressive brain cell death after stroke and how to develop an effective pharmacotherapy for stroke. This brief review analyzes the fate of about 430 potentially useful stroke medications over the period 1995–2015and describes in detail those that successfully reached the market. | 5 | Combined use of phospholipid complexes and self-emulsifying microemulsions for improving the oral absorption of a BCS class IV compound, baicalin显示文摘The aim of this study was to develop a formulation to improve the oral absorption of baicalin(BA)by combining a phospholipid complex(PC)and self-emulsifying microemulsion drug delivery system(SMEDDS),termed BA–PC–SMEDDS.BA–PC was prepared by a solvent evaporation method and evaluated by complexation percentage(CP).The physicochemical properties of BA–PC were determined.The synergistic effect of PC and SMEDDS on permeation of BA was studied in vitro with Caco-2 cells and in situ with a single pass intestinal perfusion model.The improved bioavailability of BA in BA–PC–SMEDDS was confirmed in an in vivo rat model.The CP of BA–PC reached 100%when the molar ratio of drug to phospholipid(PP)was Z1:1.The solubility of BA–PC increased in both water and octanol,and the log P o/w of BA–PC was increased significantly.BA–PC–SMEDDS could be dispersed more evenly in water,compared to BA and BA–PC.Both the Caco-2 cell uptake and single-pass intestinal perfusion models illustrated that transport of BA in BA–PC was lower than that of free BA,while improved significantly in BA–PC–SMEDDS.The relative bioavailability of BA–PC(1:2)–SMEDDS was 220.37%.The combination system of PC and SMEDDS had a synergistic effect on improving the oral absorption of BA. | Huiyi Wu Xiaoying Long Fei Yuan Li Chen Sujing Pan Yunjun Liu Yoshiko Stowell Xiaoling Li | 2014 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2014,4,3: | 14 |

| 7 | Arginine, N-carbamylglutamate,and glutamine exert protective effects against oxidative stress in rat intestine显示文摘The objective of the current study is to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with arginine(ARG), N-carbamylglutamate(NCG), and glutamine(GLN) on rat intestinal morphology and antioxidant status under oxidative stress. Rats were fed for 30 d with one of the following iso-nitrogenous diets:basal diet(BD), BD plus 1% ARG, BD plus 0.1% NCG, and BD plus 1% GLN. On day 28, half of the rats fed BD were intraperitoneally injected with 12 mg/kg body weight of diquat(DT; i.e., the DT group) and the other half was intraperitoneally injected with sterile solution(i,e., the control group). The other diet groups were intraperitoneally injected with 12 mg/kg body weight of DT(i,e., DT + 1% GLN [DT + GLN],DT + 1% ARG [DT + ARG], and DT + 0.1% NCG [DT + NCG]). Rat jejunum samples obtained at 48 h after DT injection were analyzed. Results showed that DT significantly decreased catalase(CAT) activity and glutathione(GSH) content by 58.25% and 56.57%, respectively, and elevated malondialdehyde(MDA)content and crypt depth(CD) by 19.39% and 22.13%, respectively, in the jejunum(P < 0.05, relative to the control group). Compared with the DT group, the DT + GLN group exhibited significantly improved villus height(VH), villus width(VW), villus surface area(VSA), CD and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC) activity(P < 0.05); the DT + ARG group exhibited significantly increased the ratio of VH to CD(H:D) and TAOC activity(P < 0.05); the DT + GLN, DT + ARG and DT + NCG groups exhibited significantly enhanced CAT activity and GSH content as well as decreased MDA content(P < 0.05). Moreover, VH, VW, VSA, CD and GSH content in the DT + GLN group were higher whereas MDA content was lower compared with the corresponding values observed in both the DT + ARG and the DT + NCG groups(P < 0.05). The H:D ratio in the DT + ARG group significantly increased compared with that in the DT + NCG and DT + GLN groups(P < 0.05). | 9 | Waste oyster shell as a kind of active filler to treat the combined wastewater at an estuary显示文摘Estuaries have been described as one of the most difcult environments on Earth. It is difcult to know how to treat the combined wastewater in tidal rivers at the estuary, where the situation is very diferent from ordinary fresh water rivers. Waste oyster shell was used as the active filler in this study in a bio-contact oxidation tank to treat the combined wastewater at the Fengtang Tidal River. With a middle-experimental scale of 360 m3/day, the average removal efciency of COD, BOD, NH3-N, TP and TSS was 80.05%, 85.02%,86.59%, 50.58% and 85.32%, respectively, in this bio-contact oxidation process. The living microbes in the biofilms on the waste oyster shell in this bio-contact oxidation tank, which were mainly composed of zoogloea, protozoa and micro-metazoa species, revealed that waste oyster shell as the filler was suitable material for combined wastewater degradation. This treatment method using waste oyster shell as active filler was then applied in a mangrove demonstration area for water quality improvement near the experiment area, with a treatment volume of 5 × 103m3/day. Another project was also successfully applied in a constructed wetland, with a wastewater treatment volume of 1 × 103m3/day. Despite progress in the field of nanotherapeutics, the use of artificially synthesized nanocarriers still faces several challenges, including rapid clearance from blood circulation and limited capability of overcoming multiple physiological barriers, which hamper the clinical application of nanoparticle-based therapies. Since leukocytes(including monocytes/macrophages,neutrophils, dendritic cells and lymphocytes) target tumors and can migrate across physiological barriers,leukocytes are increasing utilized as carriers to transfer nanoparticles to tumors. In this review we specifically focus on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of leukocytes that can be exploited as a vehicle to deliver nanoparticles to tumors and summarize the latest research on how leukocytes can be harnessed to improve therapeutic end-points. | 11 | OsSIDP366,a DUF1644 gene,positively regulates responses to drought and salt stresses in rice显示文摘Domain of unknown function 1644(DUF1644) is a Rhighly conserved amino acid sequence motif present only in plants. Analysis of expression data of the family of DUF1644-containing genes indicated that they may regulate responses to abiotic stress in rice. Here we present our discovery of the role of Os SIDP366, a member of the DUF1644 gene family, in response to drought and salinity stresses in rice. Transgenic rice plants overexpressing Os SIDP366 showed enhanced drought and salinity tolerance and reduced water loss as compared to that in the control, whereas plants with downregulated Os SIDP366 expression levels using RNA interference(RNAi) were more sensitive to salinity and drought treatments. The sensitivity to abscisic acid(ABA)treatment was not changed in Os SIDP366-overexpressing plants, and Os SIDP366 expression was not affected in ABAdeficient mutants. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that Os SIDP366 is presented in the cytoplasmic foci that colocalized with protein markers for both processing bodies(PBs) and stress granules(SGs) in rice protoplasts. Digital gene expression(DGE) profile analysis indicated that stress-related genes such as SNAC1, Os HAK5 and PRs were upregulated in Os SIDP366-overexpressing plants. | 12 | Roles of dietary supplementation with arginine or N-carbamylglutamate in modulating the inflammation, antioxidant property, and m RNA expression of antioxidant-relative signaling molecules in the spleen of rats under oxidative stress显示文摘This study evaluated the effects of arginine(Arg) or N-carbamylglutamate(NCG) on inflammation, antioxidant property, and antioxidant-related gene expression in rat spleen under oxidative stress. A total of 52 rats were randomly distributed into 4 treatment groups with 13 replicates per group. Rats were fed a basal diet(BD) or BD supplemented with Arg or NCG for 30 days. On day 28, half of the BD-fed rats were intraperitoneally injected with sterile saline(control group), and the other half with 12 mg/kg body weight of diquat(DT; DT group). The other 2 diet groups were intraperitoneally injected with 12 mg/kg body weight of DT with either Arg(1%)(DT t Arg) or NCG(0.1%)(DT t NCG). Rat spleen samples were collected for analysis at 48 h after DT injection. Results showed that DT damaged the antioxidant defense in rats compared with the control group(P < 0.05). Compared with the DT group, the DT t Arg and DT t NCG groups manifested improved anti-hydroxyl radical, catalase, and total superoxide dismutase(T-SOD) activities, increased glutathione content(P < 0.05), and decreased malondialdehyde content(P < 0.05).Moreover, compared with the DT group, the DT t Arg and DT t NCG groups enhanced mRNA expression of superoxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase 1(GPx1), glutathione reductase(GR), nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2), Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1(Keap-1), and mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR)(P < 0.05). Both NCG and Arg significantly increased anti-inflammatory cytokine mRNA level but suppressed the pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA expression under oxidative stress(P < 0.05). In summary, NCG and Arg effectively alleviated oxidative stress, improved the antioxidant capacity and regulated the antioxidant-related signaling molecular expression in rat spleen. | 13 | Xa7, a new executor R gene that confers durable and broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial blight disease in rice显示文摘Bacterial blight(BB)is a globally devastating rice disease caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo).The use of disease resistance(R)genes in rice breeding is an effective and economical strategy for the control of this disease.Nevertheless,a majority of R genes lack durable resistance for long-term use under global warming conditions.Here,we report the isolation of a novel executor R gene,Xa7,that confers extremely durable,broad-spectrum,and heat-tolerant resistance to Xoo.The expression of Xa7 was induced by incompatible Xoo strains that secreted the transcription activator-like effector(TALE)AvrXa7 or PthXo3,which recognized effector binding elements(EBEs)in the Xa7 promoter.Furthermore,Xa7 induction was faster and stronger under high temperatures.Overexpression of Xa7 or co-transformation of Xa7 with avrXa7 triggered a hypersensitive response in plants.Constitutive expression of Xa7 activated a defense response in the absence of Xoo but inhibited the growth of transgenic rice plants.In addition,analysis of over 3000 rice varieties showed that the Xa7 locuswas found primarily in the indica and aus subgroups.A variation consisting of an 11-bp insertion and a base substitution(G to T)was found in EBEAvrXa7 in the tested varieties,resulting in a loss of Xa7 BB resistance.Through a decade of effort,we have identified an important BB resistance gene and characterized its distinctive interaction with Xoo strains;these findings will greatly facilitate research on the molecular mechanism of Xa7-mediated resistance and promote the use of this valuable gene in breeding. | Xifeng Chen Pengcheng Liu Le Mei Xiaoling He Long Chen Hui Liu Shurong Shen Zhandong Ji Xixi Zheng Yuchen Zhang Zhenyu Gao Dali Zeng Qian Qian Bojun Ma | 2021 | Plant Communications2021,2,3: | 9 |

| 16 | Dietary lycopene supplementation improves meat quality,antioxidant capacity and skeletal muscle fiber type transformation in finishing pigs显示文摘This study aimed to investigate effects of dietary lycopene supplementation on meat quality,antioxidant ability and muscle fiber type transformation in finishing pigs.In a 70-day experiment,18 DurocLandraceYorkshire barrows were randomly allocated to 3 dietary treatments including a basal diet supplemented with 0,100 and 200 mg/kg lycopene,respectively.Each dietary treatment had 6 replicates with one pig each.Results showed that dietary 200 mg/kg lycopene supplementation increased muscle redness a^(*)value,intramuscular fat and crude protein contents,and decreased muscle lightness L^(*)and yellowness b^(*)values(P<0.05),suggesting that addition of 200 mg/kg lycopene to the diet of finishing pigs improved color,nutritional value and juiciness of pork after slaughter.Results also showed that dietary lycopene supplementation enhanced antioxidant capacity of finishing pigs(P<0.05).Moreover,dietary supplementation of 200 mg/kg lycopene significantly increased slow myosin heavy chain(MyHC)protein level and slow-twitch fiber percentage,and decreased fast MyHC protein level and fast-twitch fiber percentage(P<0.05),suggesting that the addition of 200 mg/kg lycopene to the diet of finishing pigs promoted muscle fiber type conversion from fast-twitch to slow-twitch.Together,we provide the first evidence that dietary 200 mg/kg lycopene supplementation improves meat quality,enhances antioxidant capacity and promotes muscle fiber type transformation from fast-twitch to slow-twitch in finishing pigs. | Wanxue Wen Xiaoling Chen Zhiqing Huang Daiwen Chen Bing Yu Jun He Yuheng Luo Hui Yan Hong Chen Ping Zheng Jie Yu | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,1: | 8 |
| 17 | Acupuncture and moxibustion reduces neuronal edema in Alzheimer's disease rats显示文摘To examine the possible correlation of aberrant Wnt signaling and pathological changes in Alzheimer's disease, we established a rat model of Alzheimer's disease and measured axin and β-catenin expression in the hippocampus. Rats were pretreated with moxibustion or electroacu-puncture, or both, at Baihui(GV20) and Shenshu(BL23). Axin expression was lower, β-catenin expression was greater, and neuronal cytoplasmic edema was visibly prevented in the rats that had received the pretreatments. | 18 | Actively priming autophagic cell death with novel transferrin receptor-targeted nanomedicine for synergistic chemotherapy against breast cancer显示文摘Recently, considerable attention in the field of cancer therapy has been focused on the mammalian rapamycin target(m TOR), inhibition of which could result in autophagic cell death(ACD). Though novel combination chemotherapy of autophagy inducers with chemotherapeutic agents is extensively investigated, nanomedicine-based combination therapy for ACD remains in infancy. In attempt to actively trigger ACD for synergistic chemotherapy, here we incorporated autophagy inducer rapamycin(RAP) into 7 pep-modified PEG-DSPE polymer micelles(7 pep-M-RAP) to specifically target and efficiently priming ACD of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells with high expression of transferrin receptor(Tf R). Cytotoxic paclitaxel(PTX)-loaded micelle(7 pep-M-PTX) was regarded as chemotherapeutic drug model. We discovered that with superior intracellular uptake in vitro and more tumor accumulation of micelles in vivo, 7 pep-M-RAP exhibited excellent autophagy induction and synergistic antitumor efficacy with 7 pep-M-PTX. Mechanism study further revealed that 7 pep-M-RAP and 7 pep-MPTX used in combination provided enhanced efficacy through induction of both apoptosis-and mitochondria-associated autophagic cell death. | 20 | Transition from Metastablity to Instability in Dynamics for the Precipitation of δ'(Al_3Li)显示文摘A computer simulation study on dynamics for the precipitation of δ’(Al3Li) ordered particles from a disor- dered matrix (α) in binary Al-Li alloys is performed using the microscopic Langevin equation. A unique precipitation mechanism is found near the ordering spinodal line. Different from the classical nucleation mechanism in the me- tastable region and the congruent ordering followed by spinodal decomposition in the instable region, a nonstoichi- ometric single ordered phase with composition fluctuations is formed by non-classical nucleation, and this ordered phase decomposes spinodally.
