| 2 | Histopathology of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is currently the sixth most common type of cancer with a high mortality rate and an increasing incidence worldwide.Its etiology is usually linked to environmental,dietary or lifestyle factors.HCC most commonly arises in a cirrhotic liver but interestingly an increasing proportion of HCCs develop in the non-fibrotic or minimal fibrotic liver and a shift in the underlying etiology can be observed.Although this process is yet to be completely understood,this changing scenario also has impact on the material seen by pathologists,presenting them with new diagnostic dilemmas.Histopathologic criteria for diagnosing classical,progressed HCC are well established and known,but with an increase in detection of small and early HCCs due to routine screening programs,the diagnosis of these small lesions in core needle biopsies poses a difficult challenge.These lesions can be far more difficult to distinguish from one another than progressed HCC,which is usually a clear cut hematoxylin and eosin diagnosis.Furthermore lesions thought to derive from progenitor cells have recently been reclassified in the WHO.This review summarizes recent developments and tries to put new HCC biomarkers in context with the WHOs reclassification.Furthermore it also addresses the group of tumors known as combined hepatocellular-cholangiocellular carcinomas. | Manuel Schlageter Luigi Maria Terracciano Salvatore D'Angelo Paolo Sorrentino | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，43： | 20 |
| 3 | Effect of phosphate releasing in activated sludge on phosphorus removal from municipal wastewater显示文摘Aluminum and ferric salts are commonly used in municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWPTs) for phosphorus(P) removal. In this study, on-site jar tests were conducted to determine the removal of different P species from the fresh samples in the presence and absence of activated sludge(AS) with different doses of alum, poly-aluminum chloride,and ferric chloride at different p H. The soluble P(SP) concentration in the samples was about 0.63 mg/L. When the mixed liquor containing AS was treated with 8 mg/L of Al, SP could be reduced to 0.13 mg/L, while it was reduced to 0.16 mg/L with only 1 mg/L of Al after sedimentation removal of AS from sample. Chemical analysis determined that AS contained 59.8 mg-P/g-TSS and 43.8 mg-Al/g-TSS and most of the P was associated with the aluminum hydroxide. We discovered that the phosphate in the AS could readily be released from it, which was mainly responsible for ineffective removal of P to low levels in mixed liquor even with very high alum dose. | 4 | Clinical and histopathological correlations of fecal calprotectin release in colorectal carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To determine calprotectin release before and after colorectal cancer operation and compare it to tumor and histopathological parameters.METHODS:The study was performed on patients with diagnosed colorectal cancer admitted for operation.Calprotectin was measured in a single stool sample before and three months after the operation using an enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Calprotectin levels greater than or equal to 50μg/g were considered positive.The compliance for collecting stool samples was assessed and the value of calprotectin was correlated to tumor and histopathological parameters of intra-and peri-tumoral inflammation.Surgical specimens were fixed in neutral buffered formalin and stained with hematoxylin and eosin.Staging was performed according to the Dukes classification system and the 7th edition tumor node metastasis classification system.Intra-and peri-tumoral inflammation was graded according to the Klintrup criteria.Immunohistochemical quantification was performed for MPO,CD45R0,TIA-1,CD3,CD4,CD8,CD57,and granzyme B.Statistical significance was measured using Wilcoxon signed rank test,Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient as appropriate.RESULTS:Between March 2009 and May 2011,80 patients with colorectal cancer(46 men and 34 women,with mean age of 71±11.7 years old)were enrolled in the study.Twenty-six patients had rectal carcinoma,29 had left-side tumors,23 had right-side tumors,and2 had bilateral carcinoma.In total,71.2%of the patients had increased levels of calprotectin before the operation(median 205μg/g,range 50-2405μg/g)and experienced a significant decrease three months after the operation(46μg/g,range 10-384μg/g,P<0001).The compliance for collecting stool samples was 89.5%.Patients with T3 and T4 tumors had significantly higher values than those with T1 and T2 cancers(P=0.022).For all other tumor parameters(N,M,G,L,V,Pn)and location,no significant difference in calprotectin concentration was found.Furthermore,the calprotectin levels and histological grading of both peri-and intra-tumoral inflammation was not correlated.Additional testing with specific markers for lymphocytes and neutrophils also revealed no statistically significant correlation.CONCLUSION:Fecal calprotectin decreases significantly after colorectal cancer operation.Its value depends exclusively on the individual T-stage,but not on other tumor or histopathological parameters. | Frank Serge Lehmann Francesca Trapani Ida Fueglistaler Luigi Maria Terracciano Markus von Flüe Gieri Cathomas Andreas Zettl Pascal Benkert Daniel Oertli Christoph Beglinger | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，17： | 6 |

| 6 | Adsorption of Ca2+on single layer graphene oxide显示文摘Graphene oxide(GO) holds great promise for a broad array of applications in many fields,but also poses serious potential risks to human health and the environment.In this study,the adsorptive properties of GO toward Ca^(2+) and Na+were investigated using batch adsorption experiments,zeta potential measurements,and spectroscopic analysis.When pH increased from 4 to 9,Ca^(2+)adsorption by GO and the zeta potential of GO increased significantly.Raman spectra suggest that Ca^(2+)was strongly adsorbed on the GO via –COO Ca^+ formation.On the other hand,Na+was adsorbed into the electrical diffuse layer as an inert counterion to increase the diffuse layer zeta potential.While the GO suspension became unstable with increasing pH from 4 to 10 in the presence of Ca^(2+),it was more stable at higher pH in the NaC l solution.The findings of this research provide insights in the adsorption of Ca^(2+)on GO and fundamental basis for prediction of its effect on the colloidal stability of GO in the environment. | Amalia Terracciano Jianfeng Zhang Christos Christodoulatos Fengchang Wu Xiaoguang Meng | 2017 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2017，29，7： | 2 |

| 11 | ABCG5-positivity in tumor buds is an indicator of poor prognosis in node-negative colorectal cancer patients显示文摘AIM:To analyze the expression of 8 putative cancer stem cell(CSC) markers within colorectal cancer tumor buds and to determine their prognostic impact in patients with this disease. METHODS:Immunohistochemistry was performed on 101 colorectal cancer resections for CK22(to identify tumor buds) as well as CD133,CD166,CD24,CD44s,CD90,EpCAM,ALDH1,and ABCG5,and their expression within tumor buds was evaluated. RESULTS:CD90,CD44s,and CD133 expression in tumor buds was found in less than 5%of all cases. ALDH1,CD24,CD166 were expressed in 16.5%,16.2%,and 34%cases,respectively,while ABCG5 and EpCAM expression was more frequent and found in 35%and 69%of cases,respectively.Of the 8 markers studied,EpCAM and ABCG5 positivity in tumor buds were significantly associated with poor prognosis(P=0.023,P=0.038,respectively) in multivariable analysis with pT and pN classificationP=0.048;hazard ratio(HR) :2.64;95%CI:1.0-6.9,for EpCAM and P=0.029;HR:2.22;95%CI:1.0-4.5,for ABCG5.Poor survival time was particularly striking for lymph node-negative patients with ABCG5-positive buds(P<0.001) .
