| 1 | New radiocarbon and archaeobotanical evidence reveal the timing and route of southward dispersal of rice farming in south China显示文摘The origins and spreads of rice agriculture have been enduring topics, yet the timing and southward dispersal from the Yangtze River Basin have been difficult to trace, due to the scarcity of archaeobotanical data, especially systematic macro-plant remains examination, combined with the poor preservation in the humid climate and acidic soils of China's southern provinces.Here, we report new radiocarbon dating and preserved rice phytolith evidence, derived from three Late Neolithic archaeological sites in south China, dated about 5,000–4,100 cal a BP.Our results demonstrate that rice farming had spread southward through the mountainous regions of Wuyi and Nanling, then entered the areas of Western Fujian and North Guangdong by 5,000 cal a BP, followed by continued expansion into coastal areas of East China Sea and South China Sea, also crossing the Taiwan Strait, around 4,500–4,000 cal a BP.The North River,East River, Min River, and possibly other river systems likely were influential as pathways or conduits. | Xiaoyan Yang Qiuhe Chen Yongchao Ma Zhao Li Hsiao-chun Hung Qianglu Zhang Zhiwei Jin Suoqiang Liu Zhenyu Zhou Xianguo Fu | 2018 | Science Bulletin2018,63,22: | 9 |
| 2 | Aging and the peripheral vestibular system显示文摘Whereas much has been learned about age-related auditory changes in the inner ear, relatively little is known about the aging effects on the vestibular part of the inner ear-the peripheral vestibular system. Here we review relevant literature with regard to the prevalence of vestibular dysfunction, vestibular functional and structural changes in the elderly. The prevalence of vestibular dysfunction increases with age. Functionally, as age increases, VEMP amplitudes decrease, VEMP thresholds increase, VOR gain of HIT decreases. Due to the complexity of the vestibular system, variations in subject age and measurement techniques, findings in VEMP latency and caloric tests are conflicting. To address this, a direct measure of the peripheral vestibular system should be applied. Structurally, age-related loss in vestibular ganglion and otoconia have been noted; hair cell changes are not well defined; while subcellular changes remain to be explored. | 3 | Auditory characteristics of noise-exposed memberscrossing age-related groups显示文摘Objective: To report audiological characteristics in a group of noise-exposed crew members on board ships.Methods and materials: Clinical and audiological measurements including pure-tone thresholds, acoustic immittance results and tinnitus questionnaires were collected from both the ship crew members(study subjects) and their land based colleagues(controls).Results: 1) Noise exposed crew members showed not only high frequency, but also low frequency hearing loss; 2) Hearing impairment increased with age, with 65.5% of crew members younger than 50 years showing normal hearing while only 14.9% of those older than 50 years had normal hearing; 3)hearing loss gradually increased with the extension of on board career time; and 4) Most study subjects reported high pitch tinnitus, significantly more than the control group although not significantly different among different age groups.Conclusion: Noise induced hearing impairment from working on board ships shows specific frequency and age characteristics. | 12 | ISOLATION AND INDUCTION OF DIFFERENTIATION OF SEINE ADIPOSE-DERIVED MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS显示文摘Objectives To establish a method for high yield mesenchymal stem cells collection,as well as a culture method for identifying mesenchymal stem cells from the swine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell(ADMSC).Methods Swine ADMSCs were isolated from fat tissue with collagenase,followed by induction of differentiation to osteogenic,adipogenic and chondrogrnic cells.The survival curve of the ADMSC at the 37oC and 38oC were measured using WST-1Cell Proliferation Assay Reagent.Result ADMSCs isolated with collagenase from swine neck fat tissue generated a stable uniform appearance after the second generation.The passage period was five days.ADMSC could differentiate into osteogenic,adipogenic or chondrogrnic cells under different culture conditions.The highest growth rate was achieved at 38oC in this study.Conclusion Swine ADMSCs have the potential to differentiate into osteogenic,adipogenic or chondrogrnic cells,and they may be appropriate for transplantation for both research and clinical purpose. | MA Yueying YUAN Shuolong ZHANG yue XU liangwei GUO Weiwei ZHAO Lidong ZHAI suoqiang YANG Shiming | 2014 | Journal of Otology2014,9,2: | 0 |
