1Clinical manifestations and pathogen characteristics in children admitted for suspected COVID-19显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2),has spread around the world.However,approaches to distinguish COVID-19 from pneumonia caused by other pathogens have not yet been reported.We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 97 children with probable COVID-19.A total of 13(13.4%)patients were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection by nucleic acid RT-PCR testing,and 41(42.3%)patients were found to be infected with other pathogens.Notably,no pathogen was detected in 43(44.3%)patients.Among all patients,25(25.8%)had familial cluster exposure history,and 52(53.6%)had one or more coexisting conditions.Fifteen(15.5%)patients were admitted or transferred to the PICU.In the 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases,5(45.5%)and 7(63.6%)were positive for IgM and IgG against SARS-CoV-2,respectively.In 22 patients with suspected COVID-19,1(4.5%)was positive for IgG but negative for IgM.The most frequently detected pathogen was Mycoplasma pneumonia(29,29.9%).One patient with confirmed COVID-19 died.Our results strongly indicated that the detection of asymptomatic COVID-19 or coexisting conditions must be strengthened in pediatric patients.These cases may be difficult to diagnose as COVID-19 unless etiologic analysis is conducted.A serologic test can be a useful adjunctive diagnostic tool in cases where SARS-CoV-2 infection is highly suspected but the nucleic acid test is negative.Xiaofang Cai Hanlan Jiang Simin Zhang Shengying Xia Wenhui Du Yaoling Ma Tao Yu Wenbin Li 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6:2
2Chromatin-associated SUMOylation controls the transcriptional switch between plant development and heat stress responses显示文摘The post-translational protein modification known as SUMOylation has conserved roles in the heat stress responses of various species.The functional connection between the global regulation of gene expression and chromatin-associatedSUMOylation in plant cells isunknown.Here,weuncovereda genome-wide relationship between chromatin-associated SUMOylation and transcriptional switches in Arabidopsis thaliana grown at room temperature,exposed to heat stress,and exposed to heat stress followed by recovery.The small ubiquitin-like modifier(SUMO)-associated chromatin sites,characterized by whole-genome ChIP-seq,were generally associated with active chromatin markers.In response to heat stress,chromatin-associated SUMO signals increased at promoter-transcriptional start site regions and decreased in gene bodies.RNAseq analysis supported the role of chromatin-associatedSUMOylation in transcriptional activation during rapid responses to high temperature.Changes inSUMOsignals on chromatinwere associated with the upregulation of heat-responsivegenesandthedownregulation ofgrowth-relatedgenes.Disruption of theSUMOligasegene SIZ1 abolished SUMOsignals on chromatin and attenuated rapid transcriptional responses to heat stress.The SUMO signal peaks were enriched in DNA elements recognized by distinct groups of transcription factors under different temperature conditions.These observations provide evidence that chromatin-associated SUMOylation regulates the transcriptional switch between development and heat stress response in plant cells.Danlu Han Chen Chen Simin Xia Jun Liu Jie Shu Vi Nguyen Jianbin Lai Yuhai Cui Chengwei Yang 2021Plant Communications2021,2,1:1
3Stable epidermal electronic device with strain isolation induced by in situ Joule heating显示文摘Epidermal electronics play increasingly important roles in human-machine intetfaces.However,their efficient fabrication while maintaining device stability and reliability remains an unresolved challenge.Here,a facile in situ Joule heating method is proposed for fabricating stable epidermal electronics on a polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)substrate.Benefiting from the precise control of heating locations,the crystallization and enhanced rigidity of PVA are restricted to desired areas,leading to strain isolation of the active regions.As a result,the electronic device can be conformably attached to skin while showing negligible degradation in device performance during deformation.Based on this method,a flexible surface electromyography(sEMG)sensor with outstanding stability and highly comfortable wearability is demonstrated,showing high accuracy(91.83%)for human hand gesture recognition.These results imply that the fabrication method proposed in this research is a facile and reliable approach for the fabrication of epidermal electronics.Zihao Wang Qifeng Lu Yizhang Xia Simin Feng Yixiang Shi Shuqi Wang Xianqing Yang Yangyong Zhao Fuqin Sun Tie Li Ting Zhang 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,4:0
4Prenatal metal mixture exposure and birth weight: A two-stage analysis in two prospective cohort studies显示文摘The understanding of the impact of prenatal exposure to metal mixtures on birth weight is limited.We aimed to identify metal mixture components associated with birth weight and to determine additional pairwise interactions between metals showing such associations.Concentrations of 18 metals were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in urine samples collected in the 3rd trimester from a prenatal cohort(discovery;n=1849)and the Healthy Baby Cohort(replication;n=7255)in Wuhan,China.In the discovery set,we used two penalized regression models,i.e.,elastic net regression for main effects and a lasso for hierarchical interactions,to identify important mixture components associated with birth weight,which were then replicated.We observed that 8 of the 18 measured metals were retained by elastic net regression,with five metals(vanadium,manganese,iron,cesium,and barium)showing negative associations with Z-scores for birth weight and three metals(cobalt,zinc,and strontium)showing positive associations.In replication set,associations remained significant for vanadium(β=-0.035;95%confidence interval[CI],-0.059 to0.010),cobalt(β=-0.073;95%CI,0.049 to 0.097),and zinc(β=-0.040;95%CI,0.016 to 0.065)after Bonferroni correction.We additionally identified and replicated a single pairwise interaction between iron and copper exposure on birth weight(P<0.001).Using a two-stage analysis,we identified and replicated individual metals and additional pairwise interactions-associated birth weight.The approach could be used in other studies estimating the effect of complex mixtures on human health.Jie Hu George D.Papandonatos Tongzhang Zheng Joseph M.Braun Bin Zhang Wenyu Liu Chuansha Wu Aifen Zhou Simin Liu Stephen L.Buka Kunchong Shi Wei Xia Shunqing Xu Yuanyuan Li 2022Eco-Environment & Health2022,1,3:0
5Dense matter with eXTP显示文摘In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry(eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. 6China-CIMMYT collaboration enhances wheat improvement in China显示文摘China and CIMMYT have collaborated on wheat improvement for over 40 years and significant progress has been achieved in five aspects in China.A standardized protocol for testing Chinese noodle quality has been established with three selection criteria, i.e.,gluten quality, starch viscosity and flour color are identified as being responsible for noodle quality.Genomic approaches have been used to develop and validate genespecific markers, leading to the establishment of a KASP platform, and seven cultivars have been released through application of molecular marker technology.Methodology for breeding adult-plant resistance to yellow rust, leaf rust and powdery mildew, based on the pleiotropic effect of minor genes has been established, resulting in release of six cultivars.More than 330 cultivars derived from CIMMYT germplasm have been released and are now grown over 9% of the Chinese wheat production area.Additionally, physiological approaches have been used to characterize yield potential and develop high-efficiency phenotyping platforms.CIMMYT has also provided valuable training for Chinese scientists.Development of climate-resilient cultivars with application of new technology will be the priority for future collaboration.Zhonghu HE Xianchun XIA Yong ZHANG Yan ZHANG Yonggui XIAO Xinmin CHEN Simin LI Yuanfeng HAO Awais RASHEED Zhiyong XIN Qiaosheng ZHUANG Ennian YANG Zheru FAN Jun YAN Ravi SINGH Hans-Joachim BRAUN 2019Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2019,6,3:0
