1YAP promotes osteogenesis and suppresses adipogenic differentiation by regulatingβ-catenin signaling显示文摘YAP(yes-associated protein) is a transcriptional factor that is negatively regulated by Hippo pathway, a conserved pathway for the development and size control of multiple organs. The exact function of YAP in bone homeostasis remains controversial. Here we provide evidence for YAP's function in promoting osteogenesis, suppressing adipogenesis, and thus maintaining bone homeostasis.YAP is selectively expressed in osteoblast(OB)-lineage cells. Conditionally knocking out Yap in the OB lineage in mice reduces cell proliferation and OB differentiation and increases adipocyte formation, resulting in a trabecular bone loss. Mechanistically, YAP interacts with β-catenin and is necessary for maintenance of nuclear β-catenin level and Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Expression of β-catenin in YAP-deficient BMSCs(bone marrow stromal cells) diminishes the osteogenesis deficit. 3Microstructure and properties of Al_2O_3 dispersion-strengthened copper fabricated by reactive synthesis process显示文摘Al2O3 dispersion-strengthened copper alloy was prepared by reactive synthesis and spark plasma sintering(SPS) process. Studies show that nano-sized c-Al2O3 particles with 27.4 nm mean size and 50-nm interval are homogeneously distributed in copper matrix. 4Association of Optic Radiation Integrity with Cortical Thickness in Children with Anisometropic Amblyopia显示文摘Previous studies have indicated regional abnormalities of both gray and white matter in amblyopia.However, alterations of cortical thickness associated with changes in white matter integrity have rarely been reported.In this study, structural magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) data were obtained from 15 children with anisometropic amblyopia and 15 age- and gender-matched children with normal sight. Combining DTI and surface-based morphometry, we examined a potential linkage between disrupted white matter integrity and altered cortical thickness. The fractional anisotropy(FA) values in the optic radiations(ORs) of children with anisometropic amblyopia were lower than in controls(P \ 0.05). The cortical thickness in amblyopic children was lower than controls in the following subregions: lingual cortex, lateral occipitotemporal gyrus, cuneus, occipital lobe, inferior parietal lobe, and temporal lobe(P \ 0.05, corrected), but was higher in the calcarine gyrus(P \ 0.05, corrected). Node-by-node correlation analysis of changes in cortical thickness revealed a significant association between a lower FA value in the OR and diminished cortical thickness in the following subregions:medial lingual cortex, lateral occipitotemporal gyrus, lateral, superior, and medial occipital cortex, and lunate cortex. We also found a relationship between changes of cortical thickness and white matter OR integrity in amblyopia. These findings indicate that developmental changes occur simultaneously in the OR and visual cortex in amblyopia, and provide key information on complex damage of brain networks in anisometropic amblyopia. 5Efficient Conditional Privacy-Preserving and Authentication Scheme for Secure Service Provision in VANET显示文摘Vehicle Ad hoc NETworks(VANET) can enhance traffic safety and improve traffic efficiency through cooperative communication among vehicles, roadside infrastructure, and traffic management centers. To guarantee secure service provision in VANET, message authentication is important. Moreover, a vehicle user's private information can also be leaked during service provision. A protection mechanism is needed to prevent such leakage. Therefore, we propose a conditional privacy-preserving and authentication scheme for secure service provision in VANETs. The proposed scheme not only satisfies the security requirements of VANETs, but also optimizes the calculation process of signature generation and verification. We carry out a detailed comparative analysis. The result shows that the proposed scheme is more efficient than existing schemes in terms of communication overhead and computational cost. 6Tuning Superhydrophobic Materials with Negative Surface Energy Domains显示文摘Hydrophobic/superhydrophobic materials with intrinsic water repellence are highly desirable in engineering fields including antiicing in aerocrafts,antidrag and anticorrosion in ships,and antifog and self-cleaning in optical lenses,screen,mirrors,and windows.However,superhydrophobic material should have small surface energy(SE)and a micro/nanosurface structure which can reduce solid-liquid contact significantly.The low SE is generally found in organic materials with inferior mechanical properties that is undesirable in engineering.Intriguingly,previous theoretical calculations have predicted a negative SE forθ-alumina(θ-Al_(2)O_(3)),which inspires us to use it as a superhydrophobic material.Here,we report the experimental evidence of the small/negative SE ofθ-Al_(2)O_(3) and aθ-Al_(2)O_(3)-based superhydrophobic coating prepared by one-step scalable plasma arcing oxidation.The superhydrophobic coating has complete ceramic and desired micro/nanostructure and therefore exhibits excellent aging resistance,wear resistance,corrosion resistance,high-temperature tolerance,and burning resistance.Owing to the rarity of the small/negative SE in inorganic materials,the concept to reduce SE byθ-Al_(2)O_(3) may foster a blowout to develop robust superhydrophobicity by complete inorganic materials.Zhongzhen Wu Liangliang Liu Shunning Li Shunping Ji Pinghu Chen Suihan Cui Zhengyong Ma Yuchang Weng Qian Huang Zhongcan Wu Hao Wu Yuan Lin Ricky KYFu Hai Lin Xiubo Tian Paul KChu Feng Pan 2019Research2019,,1:6
7Sedimentary filling and sequence structure dominated by T-R cycles of the Nenjiang Formation in the Songliao Basin显示文摘The Nenjiang Formation in the Songliao Basin is a symmetrical sequence of progradation-retrogradation,and is formed in the transgression cycle and regression cycle(T-R cycles)of the base level of deposition.We analyzed the drilling,well logging,core data,and seismic profiles of basin level,and by using the sequence stratigraphy,identified one secondary sequence boundary,two third-order sequence boundaries,and eight fourth-order sequence boundaries in the Nenjiang Formation.These eleven sequence boundaries can be divided into structural unconformity,depositional unconformity,flooding surface,and forced regression surface.Therefore the Nenjiang Formation can be subdivided into one secondary sequence,three third-order sequences,and ten fourth-order sequences.We have restored the sedimentary filling evolution within the stratigraphic framework of fourth-order sequences in the Nenjiang Formation.The sedimentary period of the first member of the Nenjiang Formation was corresponded to the global transgression period,which is also the development period of transgression cycle(T cycle),when the lake basin had the largest scope and deepest sedimentary water,the SB07(the maximum flooding surface)was formed on the top of strata during this period;covering above the SB07,there developed a set of condensation layer-oil shale,which is distributed in the whole basin and is the important source bed and regional cover.Therefore,a retrogradation sequence was formed in the T cycle of the first member of the Nenjiang Formation,characterized by the retrograding delta at a low angle.The delta has a giant front,a small plain,and many underwater distributary channels.Meanwhile,large gravity flow channels and sublacustrine fans are developed in the front of the delta.During the depositional period of the second member of the Nenjiang Formation,the R cycle began to develop due to the compression of the pacific tectonic domain;the source direction rotated 90°along with the eastern uplifting of the basin,and formed a series of east-west prograded and forced retrogradations.The prograding delta at high angel was developed in the interior of the sequence;the delta had a small front,a giant plain,and fewer underwater distributary channels,with the collapse at the foreslope,forming a series of slump fans.The slump fans can be divided into three types:discrete type,superimposed type,and fluid type.We built a whole'triad model'of the slump fan.Pointed out that the sequence of forced retrogradation formed by R cycle is a good structural mark of basin optimization,and rejected the viewpoint of'transgression'in the Nenjiang Formation of the Songliao Basin.ZHANG ChenChen ZHANG Shun WEI Wei WU ChaoDong LIANG JiangPing NIU Wen DU JinXia FU XiuLi CUI KunNing WANG Chao WANG Hui 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,2:5
8Biomedical polymers: synthesis, properties, and applications显示文摘Biomedical polymers have been extensively developed for promising applications in a lot of biomedical fields, such as therapeutic medicine delivery, disease detection and diagnosis, biosensing, regenerative medicine, and disease treatment. In this review, we summarize the most recent advances in the synthesis and application of biomedical polymers, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their property-function relationship for corresponding biomedical applications. In particular, a few burgeoning bioactive polymers, such as peptide/biomembrane/microorganism/cell-based biomedical polymers, are also introduced and highlighted as the emerging biomaterials for cancer precision therapy. Furthermore, the foreseeable challenges and outlook of the development of more efficient, healthier and safer biomedical polymers are discussed. 10Hepcidin contributes to Swedish mutant APP-induced osteoclastogenesis and trabecular bone loss显示文摘Patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD)often have lower bone mass than healthy individuals.However,the mechanisms underlying this change remain elusive.Previously,we found that Tg2576 mice,an AD animal model that ubiquitously expresses Swedish mutant amyloid precursor protein(APPswe),shows osteoporotic changes,reduced bone formation,and increased bone resorption.To understand how bone deficits develop in Tg2576 mice,we used a multiplex antibody array to screen for serum proteins that are altered in Tg2576 mice and identified hepcidin,a master regulator of iron homeostasis.We further investigated hepcidin’s function in bone homeostasis and found that hepcidin levels were increased not only in the serum but also in the liver,muscle,and osteoblast(OB)lineage cells in Tg2576 mice at both the mRNA and protein levels.We then generated mice selectively expressing hepcidin in hepatocytes or OB lineage cells,which showed trabecular bone loss and increased osteoclast(OC)-mediated bone resorption.Further cell studies suggested that hepcidin increased OC precursor proliferation and differentiation by downregulating ferroportin(FPN)expression and increasing intracellular iron levels.In OB lineage cells,APPswe enhanced hepcidin expression by inducing ER stress and increasing OC formation,in part through hepcidin.Together,these results suggest that increased hepcidin expression in hepatocytes and OB lineage cells in Tg2576 mice contributes to enhanced osteoclastogenesis and trabecular bone loss,identifying the hepcidin-FPN-iron axis as a potential therapeutic target to prevent AD-associated bone loss.Hao-Han Guo Lei Xiong Jin-Xiu Pan Daehoon Lee Kevin Liu Xiao Ren Bo Wang Xiao Yang Shun Cui Lin Mei Wen-Cheng Xiong 2021Bone Research2021,9,3:2
11Immunogenicity and protective efficacy of DHBV DNA vaccines expressing envelope and capsid fusion proteins in ducks delivered by attenuated Salmonella typhimurium显示文摘Duck hepatitis B virus(DHBV) shares many basic characteristics with hepatitis B virus(HBV) and is an attractive model for vaccine development. In this study, DHBV DNA vaccines were designed to express envelope and capsid fusion proteins to enhance the breadth of immune response in ducks. Attenuated Salmonella typhimurium(SL7207) was used as a carrier and adjuvant to boost the magnitude of immune response. Based on this strategy, novel DNA vaccines(SL7207-p VAX1-LC and SL7207-p VAX1-SC) were generated. Growth kinetics, genetic stabilities and relative transcription levels of the L, S and C genes introduced by these vaccine strains were measured before inoculation to guarantee safety and efficacy. The relative transcript levels of the CD4 and CD8 T genes and the antibody levels(Ig Y) in ducks receiving the vaccines were higher than those in single gene delivered groups. 15Real-time measurements of PM_(2.5),PM_(10-2.5),and BC in an urban street canyon显示文摘A continuous dichotomous beta gauge monitor was used to characterize the hourly content of PM_(2.5).PM_(10-2.5).and Black Carbon(BC)over a 12-month period in an urban street canyon of Hong Kong.Hourly vehicle counts for nine vehicle classes and meteorological data were also recorded.The average weekly cycles of PM_(2.5),PM_(10-2.5).and BC suggested that all species are related to traffic,with high concentrations on workdays and low concentrations over the weekends.PM_(2.5) exhibited two comparable concentrations at 10:00-11:00(63.4 μg/m^3) and 17:00-18:00(65.0 μg/m^3) local time(LT) during workdays,corresponding to the hours when the numbers of diesel-fueled and gasoline-fueled vehicles were at their maximum levels:3179 and 2907 h^(-1),respectively.BC is emitted mainly by diesel-fueled vehicles and this showed the highest concentration(31.2 μg/m^3) during the midday period(10:00-11:00 LT) on workdays.A poor correlation was found between PM_(2.5) concentration and wind speed(R = 0.51,P-value> 0.001).In contrast,the concentration of PM_(10-2.5) was found to depend upon wind speed and it increased with obvious statistical significance as wind speed increased(R = 0.98,P-value< 0.0001).Yan Cheng Shun Cheng Lee Yuan Gao Long Cui Wenjing Deng Junji Cao Zhenxing Shen Jian Sun 2015Particuology2015,13,3:1
16The codon-optimized capsid gene of duck circovirus can be highly expressed in yeast and self-assemble into virus-like particles显示文摘The capsid(Cap) protein, which is the only structural protein of duck circovirus(DuCV), is the most important antigen for the development of vaccines against DuCV and the virus' s serological diagnostic methods. In order to use yeast expression system to produce a large quantities of DuCV Cap protein which is close to its natural form to display the antigen peptides perfectly, the Cap gene was optimized into the codon-optimized capsid(Opt-Cap) gene towards the preference of yeast firstly. Then, the genes of Cap and Opt-Cap were separately cloned into pPIC9K plasmid and transformed into Picha pastoris GS115. The strains that displayed the phenotype of Mut^+ and contained multiple inserts of expression cassette were selected from those colonies. After the induction expression, the secretory type of Cap protein, which was about 43 kDa, was best expressed under 0.5%(v/v) methanol and sorbitol induction. Compared with the Cap gene, the expression level of Opt-Cap gene was much higher. What's more, the purified Cap protein had a good reactivity to its specific polyclone antibody and DuCV-positive serum, and it was able to self-assemble into virus-like particles(VLPs). These VLPs, with a diameter of 15–20 nm and without a nucleic acid structure, showed a high level of similarity to DuCV particles in size and shape. All of the results demonstrated that, based on the codon-optimization, it is suitable to use the P. pastoris expression system to produce DuCV VLPs on a large scale. 18Systematic classification and phylogenetic relationships of the brown‑rot fungi within the Polyporales显示文摘The brown-rot fungi play an important role in forest ecosystems;they can degrade celluloses and hemicelluloses of wood and maintain nutrient cycling.Some of the brown-rot fungi also have important economic value as medicinal or edible mushrooms.Recent studies showed that the ability to produce brown rot has evolved independently at least five times.Nevertheless,the Polyporales contains the vast majority of the species of the brown-rot fungi.In this study,the classification system of the brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales is revised.Furthermore,the phylogenetic relationships of brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales are analysed based on DNA sequences of multiple loci including the internal transcribed spacer(ITS)regions,the large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene(nLSU),the small subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene(nSSU),the small subunit mitochondrial rRNA gene sequences(mtSSU),the translation elongation factor 1-αgene(TEF1),the RNA polymerase II largest subunit(RPB1)and the second subunit of RNA polymerase II(RPB2).The study showed that the brownrot fungi within the Polyporales formed fourteen lineages,which are assigned at family level,including four new families:Auriporiaceae,Piptoporellaceae,Postiaceae,Taiwanofungaceae,and ten existing families:Adustoporiaceae,Dacryobolaceae,Fibroporiaceae,Fomitopsidaceae,Laetiporaceae,Laricifomitaceae,Phaeolaceae,Pycnoporellaceae,Sarcoporiaceae,and Sparassidaceae.Meanwhile,eleven new genera,viz.,Austroporia,Aurantipostia,Austropostia,Daedalella,Nothofagiporus,Pseudoantrodia,Pseudofomitopsis,Rhodoantrodia,Tenuipostia,Wolfiporiella and Wolfiporiopsis are proposed;eighteen new species,viz.,Amyloporia nivea,Antrodia subheteromorpha,Aurantipostia macrospora,Austropostia hirsuta,A.plumbea,A.subpunctata,Cystidiopostia subhibernica,Daedalella micropora,Fuscopostia subfragilis,Lentoporia subcarbonica,Melanoporia tropica,Neolentiporus tropicus,Phaeolus fragilis,Postia crassicontexta,Pseudoantrodia monomitica,Pseudofomitopsis microcarpa,Resinoporia luteola and Rhodonia subrancida are described;and twelve new combinations,viz.,Austroporia stratosa,Austropostia brunnea,A.pelliculosa,A.punctata,Nothofagiporus venatus,Rhodoantrodia tropica,R.yunnanensis,Tenuipostia dissecta,Wolfiporiella cartilaginea,W.curvispora,W.dilatohypha and Wolfiporiopsis castanopsidis,are proposed.Illustrated descriptions of the new species are provided.Notes on the genera of brown-rot fungi within the Polyporales are provided.Shun Liu Yuan‑Yuan Chen Yi‑Fei Sun Xiao‑Lan He Chang‑Ge Song Jing Si Dong‑Mei Liu Genevieve Gates Bao‑Kai Cui 2023Fungal Diversity2023,,1:1
19A New Dual Polarized Aperture-Coupled Printed Array for SAR Applications显示文摘This paper presents a new design of dual polarized aperture coupled printed antenna array. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) analysis of an aperture coupled microstrip element is performed, and the effects of antenna parameters on its characteristics are obtained to guide the design of the printed array. Then an 8×2 dual polarized array design in X band is introduced with configuration plots. In order to improve its isolation and cross polarization, an outphase displacement feeding technique is adopted in the feed network. Also, the round bends are used instead of conventional right angle bends so as to achieve better VSWR performance. Experimental results are presented, indicating the validity of the design. 20Controllable optical multistability in hybrid optomechanical system assisted by parametric interactions显示文摘We theoretically investigate the multistable behavior of a hybrid optomechanical system,in which a charged mechanical resonator is coupled via Coulomb interaction to an optomechanical cavity containing an optical parametric amplifier(OPA).It is shown that the multistable behavior of the mean intracavity photon number can be controlled flexibly by adjusting the nonlinear gain parameter of the OPA,the phase of the field pumping the OPA,the power and frequency of the field driving the cavity,and the Coulomb coupling strength between the two charged mechanical resonators.In particular,the increase of the nonlinear gain parameter can result in a transition from testability to Instability.Moreover,the effect of the Coulomb coupling strength on the bistable behavior of the steady-state positions of the two mechanical resonators is discussed.Cheng Jiang Zhang Yin Zhai Yuan Shun Cui GuiBin Chen 2017Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2017,60,1:0
