| 1 | Clinical features and outcomes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma based on nodal or extranodal primary sites of origin:Analysis of 1,085 WHO classified cases in a single institution in China显示文摘Objective: To explore the clinicobiologic features and outcomes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)patients in China according to the primary site.Methods: A total of 1,085 patients diagnosed with DLBCL in National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College during a 6-year period were enrolled. Their clinical characteristics and outcomes were analyzed according to the primary site.Results: In the 1,085 patients, 679(62.6%) cases were nodal DLBCL(N-DLBCL) and 406 cases(37.4%) were extranodal DLBCL(EN-DLBCL). The most common sites of N-DLBCL were lymphonodus(64.8%), Waldeyer's ring(19.7%), mediastinum(12.8%) and spleen(2.7%), while in EN-DLBCL, stomach(22.4%), intestine(16.0%),nose and sinuses(8.9%), testis(8.4%), skin(7.9%), thyroid(6.9%), central nervous system(CNS)(6.4%), breast(5.7%), bone(3.4%), and salivary gland(2.7%) were most common. N-DLBCL patients tend to present B symptoms, bulky disease, and elevated LDH more often, while age >60 years, extranodal sites >1, Ann Arbor stage I or II, bone marrow involvement, and Ki-67 index >90% were usually seen in EN-DLBCL. The 5-year overall survival(OS) rate and progression-free survival(PFS) rate for all patients were 62.5% and 54.2%. The 5-year OS rate for patients with N-DLBCL and EN-DLBCL were 65.5% and 56.9%(P=0.008), and the 5-year PFS were57.0% and 49.0%(P=0.020). Waldeyer's ring originated DLBCL possessed the highest 5-year OS rate(83.6%) and PFS rate(76.9%) in N-DLBCL. The top five EN-DLBCL subtypes with favorable prognosis were stomach,breast, nose and sinuses, lung, salivary gland, with 5-year OS rate: 70.3%, 69.6%, 69.4%, 66.7% and 63.6%,respectively. While CNS, testis, oral cavity and kidney originated EN-DLBCL faced miserable prognosis, with 5-year OS rate of 26.9%, 38.2%, and 42.9%.Conclusions: In our study, primary sites were associated with clinical characteristics and outcomes. | 2 | Degradation of organic pollutants by a Co_3O_4 -graphite composite electrode in an electro-Fenton-like system显示文摘A novel composite electrode was constructed by pressing together Co3O4 and graphite and it was used as the cathode in an electro-Fenton-like (EFL) system. The poor electron transport characteristic of Co3O4 was overcome by incorporating graphite. In situ electro-catalytic generation of hydroxyl radicals (·OH) occurred at high current efficiencies from pH 2-10, extending the traditional Fenton reaction pH range. Cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance spectrometry were used to characterize the composite electrode. The ability of the EFL system to degrade organic compounds was investigated using sulforhodamine B (SRB) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) as probes. Decoloration of SRB (1.0×10-5 mol/L) was complete (100%) in 150 min and SRB was effectively degraded from pH 2-10. The decomposition of SRB was studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and total organic carbon (TOC) analysis and results indicated that the final degradation products were carbon dioxide, carboxylic acids and amines. The EFL system also decomposed 2,4-DCP and the degradation was 98.6% in 240 min. Electro-catalytic degradation of SRB occurs by a ·OH mechanism. After 5 times reused, the degradation rate of SRB did not significantly slow down. | 3 | Orthogonal linear polarized lasers (Ⅲ)——Applications in self-sensing显示文摘In this paper, the applications of orthogonal linear polarized lasers in self-sensing are reviewed. The properties for such a laser include the production of a new frequency in one longitudinal mode spacing, the tuning of frequency difference, the change of polarization states as cavity tuning, the control of mode competition intensity, the optical feedback, and so on. The orthogonal polarized lasers have been used as a laser nanometer ruler based on competition between two polarized lights in a HeNe laser and as a displacement measurement tool based on the optical feedback in the orthogonal polarized lasers. They are also used in the phase retardation measurement of a waveplate, the angle measurement, the vibration measurement, the pressure/force measurement, the weak magnetic field measurement,and so on. The structures of these new devices are simple and compact with the great advantages of high resolution and high accuracy.Some of these devices can trace to the source of the laser wavelength. The nanometer laser ruler is an example whose measurement range is 12 mm, resolution is 79 nm and linearity is less than 5×10- 5. | 4 | Orthogonal linear polarized lasers (II)——Study on the physical phenomena显示文摘The physical phenomena and corresponding theoretical analysis of orthogonal polarized laser are reviewed. Four lasers (or systems) with orthogonal polarized beams are involved. For the birefringence dual frequency laser, its physical phenomena discussed include the alternation between strong mode competition and medium mode competition in cavity tuning; the range of frequency difference of strong mode competition (about 0-40 MHz); four polarization statuses (o-light oscillating but e-light extinguishing, both o-light and elight oscillating, e-light oscillating but o-light extinguishing, both o-light and e-light extinguishing) in cavity tuning; the tuning curves of frequency difference; the influence of optical activity of quartz crystal on polarization direction; and the aberrance of frequency splitting.For the Birefringence-Zeeman dual frequency laser, we focus on its intensity tuning and frequency difference tuning. For the feedback system of orthogonally polarized laser, we discuss the mutual suppression between two orthogonal frequencies, intensity exchange between two orthogonal frequencies and double of intensity fringe frequency. | 6 | Acupuncture stimulation of Yamen(GV 15), Fengfu(GV 16), Baihui(GV 20), Shuigou(GV 26) and Hegu(LI 4) reduces brain microglia activation in a traumatic brain injury rat model显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of acupuncture on neuroinflammation in traumatic brain injury(TBI) rats by stimulating Yamen(GV 15), Fengfu(GV16), Baihui(GV 20), Shuigou(GV 26) and Hegu(LI 4)acupoints and to investigate the mechanism underpinning this effect.METHODS: A TBI model was induced in SpragueDawley rats using Feeney's freefall impact method.Acupuncture to stimulate the Yamen(GV 15), Fengfu(GV 16), Baihui(GV 20), Shuigou(GV 26) and Hegu(LI 4) acupoints was performed on the TBI rats. After 3 consecutive days of acupuncture treatment, we investigated signal molecules, receptors and microglia related to neuroinflammation in brain tissue of the TBI rats and analyzed the possi-ble mechanism underlying the effect of acupuncture on neuroinflammation.RESULTS: After the acupuncture treatment, ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule 1(Iba1), a protein specific to microglia, was investigated. In the cortical layer of damaged brain tissue in TBI rats,the Iba1-positive area was 3.3% ± 0.9% in the rats that received acupuncture compared with 5.2% ±1.4% in the TBI rats that did not receive acupuncture, and the microglia were smaller with more slender protrusions in the acupuncture-treated rats.This result indicates that acupuncture can significantly reduce microglia activation in TBI rats. A possible mechanism for this effect is that acupuncture reduces the expression of autotaxin and lysophosphatidic acid. Together, these constitute the autotaxin-lysophosphatidic acid axis, which induces microglial activation in the brains of TBI rats. Acupuncture treatment may downregulate the expression of Lysophosphatidic acid(LPA) receptor(LPAR) 1 and LPAR2 on the microglial cytomembrane, which affects the microglia activation process.CONCLUSION: Acupuncture stimulating the Yamen(GV 15), Fengfu(GV 16), Baihui(GV 20),Shuigou(GV 26) and Hegu(LI 4) acupoints can effectively inhibit the development of neuroinflammation after TBI.
