1Long-term follow up of endoscopic resection for type 3 gastric NET显示文摘AIM:To clarify the short and long-term results and to prove the usefulness of endoscopic resection in type 3gastric neuroendocrine tumors(NETs).METHODS:Of the 119 type 3 gastric NETs diagnosed from January 1996 to September 2011,50 patients treated with endoscopic resection were enrolled in this study.For endoscopic resection,endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)or endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)was used.Therapeutic efficacy,complications,and follow-up results were evaluated retrospectively.RESULTS:EMR was performed in 41 cases and ESD in 9 cases.Pathologically complete resection was performed in 40 cases(80.0%)and incomplete resection specimens were observed in 10 cases(7 vs 3 patients in the EMR vs ESD group,P=0.249).Upon analysis of the incomplete resection group,lateral or vertical margin invasion was found in six cases(14.6%)in the EMR group and in one case in the ESD group(11.1%).Lymphovascular invasions were observed in two cases(22.2%)in the ESD group and in one case(2.4%)in the EMR group(P=0.080).During the follow-up period(43.73;13-60 mo),there was no evidence of tumor recurrence in either the pathologically complete resection group or the incomplete resection group.No recurrence was reported during follow-up.In addition,no mortality was reported in either the complete resection group or the incomplete resection group for the duration of the follow-up period.CONCLUSION:Less than 2 cm sized confined submucosal layer type 3 gastric NET with no evidence of lymphovascular invasion,endoscopic treatment could be considered at initial treatment.Yong Hwan Kwon Seong Woo Jeon Gwang Ha Kim Jin Il Kim Il-Kwun Chung Sam Ryong Jee Heung Up Kim Geom Seog Seo Gwang Ho Baik Kee Don Choi Jeong Seop Moon 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46:14
2Ethanolic extract of dandelion(Taraxacum mongolicum) induces estrogenic activity in MCF-7 cells and immature rats显示文摘Plants of the genus Taraxacum, commonly known as dandelions, are used to treat breast cancer in traditional folk medicine. However, their use has mainly been based on empirical findings without sufficient scientific evidence. Therefore, we hypothesized that dandelions would behave as a Selective estrogen receptor modulator(SERM) and be effective as hormone replacement therapy(HRT) in the postmenopausal women. In the present study, in vitro assay systems, including cell proliferation assay, reporter gene assay, and RT-PCR to evaluate the m RNA expression of estrogen-related genes(p S2 and progesterone receptor, PR), were performed in human breast cancer cells. Dandelion ethanol extract(DEE) significantly increased cell proliferation and estrogen response element(ERE)-driven luciferase activity. DEE significantly induced the expression of estrogen related genes such as p S2 and PR, which was inhibited by tamoxifen at 1 μmol·L-1. These results indicated that DEE could induce estrogenic activities mediated by a classical estrogen receptor pathway. In addition, immature rat uterotrophic assay was carried out to identify estrogenic activity of DEE in vivo. The lowest concentration of DEE slightly increased the uterine wet weight, but there was no significant effect with the highest concentration of DEE. 4Totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy using the modified overlap method and conventional open total gastrectomy:A comparative study显示文摘BACKGROUND Although several methods of totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy(TLTG)have been reported.The best anastomosis technique for LTG has not been established.AIM To investigate the effectiveness and surgical outcomes of TLTG using the modified overlap method compared with open total gastrectomy(OTG)using the circular stapled method.METHODS We performed 151 and 131 surgeries using TLTG with the modified overlap method and OTG for gastric cancer between March 2012 and December 2018.Surgical and oncological outcomes were compared between groups using propensity score matching.In addition,we analyzed the risk factors associated with postoperative complications.RESULTS Patients who underwent TLTG were discharged earlier than those who underwent OTG[TLTG(9.62±5.32)vs OTG(13.51±10.67),P<0.05].Time to first flatus and soft diet were significantly shorter in TLTG group.The pain scores at all postoperative periods and administration of opioids were significantly lower in the TLTG group than in the OTG group.No significant difference in early,late and esophagojejunostomy(EJ)-related complications or 5-year recurrence free and overall survival between groups.Multivariate analysis demonstrated that body mass index[odds ratio(OR),1.824;95%confidence interval(CI):1.029-3.234,P=0.040]and American Society of Anaesthesiologists(ASA)score(OR,3.154;95%CI:1.084-9.174,P=0.035)were independent risk factors of early complications.Additionally,age was associated with≥3 Clavien-Dindo classification and EJrelated complications.CONCLUSION Although TLTG with the modified overlap method showed similar complication rate and oncological outcome with OTG,it yields lower pain score,earlier bowel recovery,and discharge.Surgeons should perform total gastrectomy cautiously and delicately in patients with obesity,high ASA scores,and older ages.Chang Seok Ko Nam Ryong Choi Byung Sik Kim Jeong Hwan Yook Min-Ju Kim Beom Su Kim 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,18:8

7Effect of a seasonal diffuse pollution migration on natural organic matter behavior in a stratified dam reservoir显示文摘This article aims to describe the influence of diffuse pollution on the temporal and spatial characteristics of natural organic matter (NOM) in a stratified dam reservoir,the Daecheong Dam,on the basis of intensive observation results and the dynamic water quality simulation using CE-QUAL-W2.Turbidity is regarded as a comprehensive representation of allochothonous organic matter from diffuse sources in storm season because the turbidity concentration showed reasonable significance in a statistical correlation with the UV absorbance at 254 nm and total phosphorus.CE-QUAL-W2 simulation results showed good consistency with the observed data in terms of dissolved organic matter (DOM) including refractory dissolved organic carbon (RDOC) and labile DOC and also well explained the internal movement of constituents and stratification phenomenon in the reservoir.Instead turbidity and NOM were related well in the upper region of the reservoir according to flow distance,gradually as changing to dissolved form of organic matter,RDOM affected organic matter concentration of reservoir water quality compared to turbidity.To control the increase of soluble organic matters in the dam reservoir,appropriate dam water discharge gate operation provided effective measurement.Because of the gate operation let avoid the accumulation of organic matter within a dam reservoir by shorten of turbid regime retention time.Soon Ju Yu Jae Yil Lee Sung Ryong Ha 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,6:5
8Are human dental papilla-derived stem cell and human brain-derived neural stem cell transplantations suitable for treatment of Parkinson’s disease?显示文摘Transplantation of neural stem cells has been reported as a possible approach for replacing impaired dopaminergic neurons. In this study, we tested the efficacy of early-stage human dental papilla-derived stem cells and human brain-derived neural stem cells in rat models of 6-hydroxydopamine-induced Parkinson's disease. Rats received a unilateral injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into right medial forebrain bundle, followed 3 weeks later by injections of PBS, early-stage human dental papilla-derived stem cells, or human brain-derived neural stem cells into the ipsilateral striatum. All of the rats in the human dental papilla-derived stem cell group died from tumor formation at around 2 weeks following cell transplantation. Postmortem examinations revealed homogeneous malignant tumors in the striatum of the human dental papilla-derived stem cell group. Stepping tests revealed that human brain-derived neural stem cell transplantation did not improve motor dysfunction. In apomorphine-induced rotation tests, neither the human brain-derived neural stem cell group nor the control groups (PBS injection) demonstrated significant changes. Glucose metabolism in the lesioned side of striatum was reduced by human brain-derived neural stem cell transplantation. [18 F]-FP-CIT PET scans in the striatum did not demonstrate a significant increase in the human brain-derived neural stem cell group. Tyrosine hydroxylase (dopaminergic neuronal marker) staining and G protein-activated inward rectifier potassium channel 2 (A9 dopaminergic neuronal marker) were positive in the lesioned side of striatum in the human brain-derived neural stem cell group. The use of early-stage human dental papilla-derived stem cells confirmed its tendency to form tumors. 9Significant risk and associated factors of active tuberculosis infection in Korean patients with inflammatory bowel disease using anti-TNF agents显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the incidence and risk factors of Korean tuberculosis(TB) infection in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) undergoing anti-TNF treatment.METHODS:The data of IBD patients treated with anti-TNFs in 13 tertiary referral hospitals located in the southeastern region of Korea were collected retrospectively.They failed to show response or were intolerant to conventional treatments,including steroids or immunomodulators.Screening measures for latent TB infection(LTBI)and the incidence and risk factors ofactive TB infection after treatment with anti-TNFs were identified.RESULTS:Overall,376 IBD patients treated with antiTNF agents were recruited(male 255,mean age of anti-TNF therapy 32.5±13.0 years);277 had Crohn’s disease,99 had ulcerative colitis,294 used infliximab,and 82 used adalimumab.Before anti-TNF treatment,screening tests for LTBI including an interferon gamma release assay or a tuberculin skin test were performed in 82.2%of patients.Thirty patients(8%)had LTBI.Sixteen cases of active TB infection including one TB-related mortality occurred during 801 personyears(PY)follow-up(1997.4 cases per 100000 PY)after anti-TNF treatment.LTBI(OR=5.76,95%CI:1.57-21.20,P=0.008)and WBC count<5000 mm3(OR=4.5,95%CI:1.51-13.44,P=0.007)during follow-up were identified as independently associated risk factors.CONCLUSION:Anti-TNFs significantly increase the risk of TB infection in Korean patients with IBD.The considerable burden of TB and marked immunosuppression might be attributed to this risk.Eun Soo Kim Geun Am Song Kwang Bum Cho Kyung Sik Park Kyeong Ok Kim Byung Ik Jang Eun Young Kim Seong Woo Jeon Hyun Seok Lee Chang Heon Yang Yong Kook Lee Dong Wook Lee Sung Kook Kim Tae Oh Kim Jonghun Lee Hyung Wook Kim Sam Ryong Jee Seun Ja Park Hyun Jin Kim 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,11:5

11A comparison of desensitization methods: Rituximab with/without plasmapheresis in ABO-incompatible living donor liver transplantation显示文摘Background: Plasmapheresis is a desensitization method used prior to ABO-incompatible(ABO-I) living donor liver transplantation. However, studies on its usefulness in the rituximab era are lacking.Methods: Fifty-six adult patients underwent ABO-I living donor liver transplantation between January2012 and October 2015. A single dose of rituximab(300 mg/m^2) was administered 2 weeks before surgery with plasmapheresis in all patients until February 2014(RP group, n = 26). Patients were administered rituximab only, without plasmapheresis between March 2014 and October 2015(RO group, n = 30).Results: The 6-, 12-and 18-month overall survival rates were 92.3%, 80.8% and 76.9% in the RP group and 96.6%, 85.4% and 85.4% in the RO group, respectively(P = 0.574). When the initial isoagglutinin titers < 16, neither group showed a rebound rise of isoagglutinin titers. For patients with initial isoagglutinin titers ≥ 16, the rebound rise of isoagglutinin titers was more prominent in the RP group. There was no difference in time-dependent changes in B cell subpopulations and ABO-I-related complications.Conclusions: Sufficient desensitization for ABO-I living donor liver transplantation can be achieved using rituximab alone. 12Characterization and validation of somatic mutation spectrum to reveal heterogeneity in gastric cancer by single cell sequencing显示文摘Gastric cancer(GC) is a highly heterogeneous disease with multiple cellular types and poor prognosis.However, the cellular evolution and molecular basis of GC at the individual intra-tumor level has not been well demonstrated. We performed single-cell whole exome sequencing to detect somatic singlenucleotide variants(SNVs) and significantly mutated genes(SMGs) among 34 tumor cells and 9 normal cells from a patient with GC. The Complete Prediction for Protein Conformation(CPPC) approach directly predicting the folding conformation of the protein 3D structure with Protein Folding Shape Code, combined with functional experiments were used to confirm the characterization of mutated SMGs in GC cells. We identified 201 somatic SNVs, including 117 non-synonymous mutations in GC cells. Further analysis identified 24 significant mutated genes(SMGs) in single cells, for which a single amino acid change might affect protein conformation. Among them, two genes(CDC27 and FLG) that were mutated only in single cells but not in the corresponding tumor tissue, were recurrently present in another GC tissue cohort, and may play a potential role to promote carcinogenesis, as confirmed by functional characterization. 13Garcinia Cambogia attenuates diet-induced adiposity but exacerbates hepatic collagen accumulation and inflammation显示文摘AIM: To investigate long-term effects of Garcinia Cambogia (GC), weight-loss supplement, on adiposity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in obese mice. METHODS: Obesity-prone C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD, 45 kcal% fat) with or without GC (1%, w/w) for 16 wk. The HFD contained 45 kcal% fat, 20 kcal% protein and 35 kcal% carbohydrate. They were given free access to food and distilled water, and food consumption and body weight were measured daily and weekly, respectively. Data were expressed as the mean ± SE. Statistical analyses were performed using the statistical package for the social science software program. Student's t test was used to assess the differences between the groups. Statistical significance was considered at P < 0.05. RESULTS: There were no significant changes in body weight and food intake between the groups. However, the supplementation of GC significantly lowered visceral fat accumulation and adipocyte size via inhibition of fatty acid synthase activity and its mRNA expression in visceral adipose tissue, along with enhanced enzymatic activity and gene expression involved in adipose fatty acid β-oxidation. Moreover, GC supplementation resulted in significant reductions in glucose intolerance and the plasma resistin level in the HFD-fed mice. However, we first demonstrated that it increased hepatic collagen accumulation, lipid peroxidation and mRNA levels of genes related to oxidative stress (superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase) and inflammatory responses (tumor necrosis factor-α and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1) as well as plasma alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase levels, although HFD-induced hepatic steatosis was not altered. 14Potentiating activity of luteolin on membrane permeabilizing agent and ATPase inhibitor against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus显示文摘Objective:To investigate the mechanism of antibacterial activity of luteoiin(LUT) against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).Methods:The mechanism of anti-MRSA activity of LUT was analyzed by the viability assay in membrane permeabilizing agent ATPase inhibitors,and peptidoglycan(PGN) derived from Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus).Also,transmission electron microscopy was used to monitor survival characteristics and changes in S.aureus morphology.Results:Compared to the LUT alone,the optical density of suspensions treated with the combination of 125 μg/mL Tris and 230 μg/mL DCCD were reduced to 60%and 46%,respectively.PGN(15.6 μg/mL) gradually impeded the activity of LUT,and PGN(62.5 μg/mL) completely blocked the activity of LUT on S.aureus.Conclusions:Increased susceptibility to LUT with me Tris and DCCD combinations is evident in all tested MRSA isolates.The results indicate LUT synergy in increasing cytoplasmic membrane permeability and inhibiting ATPase.S.aureus PGN directly blocks the antibacterial activity of LUT,suggesting the direct binding of LUT with PGN.These findings may be validated for the development of antibacterial agent for low MRSA resistance.Dae-Ki Joung Young-Seob Lee Sin-Hee Han Sang-Won Lee Seon-Woo Cha Su-Hyun Mun Ryong Kong Ok-Hwa Kang Ho-Jun Song Dong-Won Shin Dong-Yeul Kwon 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,1:3

16Potentiating activity of rhein in targeting of resistance genes in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus显示文摘Objective: To investigate the synergistic effect between rhein(RHE) and oxacillin against Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) at the gene level. Method: A minimum inhibitory concentration and checkerboard dilution test were conducted to evaluate antibacterial activity. Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction was conducted to investigate the gene expressions. Results: RHE exhibited a minimum inhibitory concentration of 62.5-250.0 μg/mL against various MRSA strains and the reference strain, respectively. As revealed by the checkerboard assay, a combination of RHE and oxacillin exhibited synergistic or partially synergistic effects against MRSA strains. RHE decreased the expressions of mecA/blaZ in a dose-dependent manner. RHE also decreased the expressions of the regulator genes mecI/blaI and mecR1/blaR1. 18Effect of cytokinins on in vitro multiplication of Sophora tonkinensis显示文摘Objective:To determine the effects of different cytokinins at various concentrations onin vitro shoot multiplication of an important medicinal plant.Methods:Nodal explants(1.5-2.0 cm)of Sophora tonkinensiswere used.Multiple shoots were induced from nodal explants cultured onthe Murashige and Skoog(MS)medium supplemented with 0.0,0.5,1.0,2.0,4.0,8.0,or 16.0μmol2-isopentyladenine(2iP),N6 benzyladenine,kinetin or thiadiazuron.Results:Among the fourinvestigated cytokinins,2iP showed the best response for shoot multiplication.Maximum shootinduction(75%)was achieved on the MS medium supplemented with 2.0μmol 2iP,with a meannumber of 5.0 shoots per explant.In comparison to other cytokinins tried,2iP showed the highestshoot elongation with a mean shoot length of 4.8 cm.Root initiation was observed within 15 dwithin the transfer of shoots onto the MS basal medium,and the rooting percentage was 100%with a mean number of 5.4 roots per shoot and root length of 6.2 cm over a period of 4 weeks.Thehealthy plants,hardened and transferred to a greenhouse for proper acclimatization,exhibited100%survival.Conclusions:It can be summarized that 2iP is the optimal plant growth regulatorforSophoramultiplication.Sonali Jana Iyyakkannu Sivanesan Byoung Ryong Jeong 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,7:2
19Precambrian crustal evolution in Rangrim Massif,Korean Peninsula显示文摘Petrological,chronological and geotectonic geological analysis of Precambrian metamorphic rock in Korean Peninsula shows that the remnants(>3.4 Ga) of continental nuclei crust were formed in the Paleoarchean in the Rangrim Massif.In the massif,the main formation ages of continental crust range from 3.2 Ga to 2.5 Ga,its important growing period was 2.8-2.5 Ga.The subsequent expansion period of the Rangrim Massif was 2.4-2.2 Ga.The division events occurred in 1.85 Ga and in the Late Paleoproterozoic--Early Mesopro-terozoic,respectively.Since then the massif was relatively stable.However,the last division of the Rangrim Massif occurred at 793 Ma.LYANG To Jun LIU Yongjiang YANG Jong Hyok KIM Hon HAN Ryong Yon KIM Jong Nam 2009Global Geology2009,12,2:2
