1Impact of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium on Brown Planthopper and Tolerance of Its Host Rice Plants显示文摘The brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens(St?l),appeared as a devastating pest of rice in Asia. Experiments were conducted to study the effects of three nutrients,nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P) and potassium(K),on BPH and its host rice plants. Biochemical constituents of BPH and rice plants with varying nutrient levels at different growth stages,and changes in relative water content(RWC) of rice plants were determined in the laboratory. Feeding of BPH and the tolerance of rice plants to BPH with different nutrient levels were determined in the nethouse. Concentrations of N and P were found much higher in the BPH body than in its host rice plants,and this elemental mismatch is an inherent constraint on meeting nutritional requirements of BPH. Nitrogen was found as a more limiting element for BPH than other nutrients in rice plants. Application of N fertilizers to the rice plants increased the N concentrations both in rice plants and BPH while application of P and K fertilizers increased their concentrations in plant tissues only but not in BPH. Nitrogen application also increased the level of soluble proteins and decreased silicon content in rice plants,which resulted in increased feeding of BPH with sharp reduction of RWC in rice plants ultimately caused susceptible to the pest. P fertilization increased the concentration of P in rice plant tissues but not changed N,K,Si,free sugar and soluble protein contents,which indicated little importance of P to the feeding of BPH and tolerance of plant against BPH. K fertilization increased K content but reduced N,Si,free sugar and soluble protein contents in the plant tissues which resulted in the minimum reduction of RWC in rice plants after BPH feeding,thereby contributed to higher tolerance of rice plants to brown planthopper.Md Mamunur RASHID Mahbuba JAHAN Khandakar Shariful ISLAM 2016Rice science2016,23,3:12
2Continuous suture of the pancreatic stump and Braun enteroenterostomy in pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM:To investigate a new modification of pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)-a mesh-like running suturing of the pancreatic remnant and Braun's enteroenterostomy.METHODS:Two hundred and three patients underwent PD from 2009 to 2014 and were classified into two groups:Group A(98 patients),who received PD with a mesh-like running suturing for the pancreatic remnant,and Braun's enteroenterostomy; and Group B(105 patients),who received standard PD.Demographic data,intraoperative findings,postoperative morbidity and perioperative mortality between the two groups were compared by univariate and multivariate analysis.RESULTS:Demographic characteristics between Group A and Group B were comparable.There were no significant differences between the two groups concerning perioperative mortality,and operative blood loss,as well as the incidence of the postoperative morbidity,including reoperation,bile leakage,intraabdominal fluid collection or infection,and postoperative bleeding.Clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF) and delayed gastric emptying(DGE) were identified more frequently in Group B than in Group A.Technique A(PD with a mesh-like running suturing of the pancreatic remnant and Braun's enteroenterostomy) was independently associated with decreased clinicallyrelevant POPF and DGE,with an odds ratio of 0.266(95%CI:0.109-0.654,P =0.004) for clinically relevant POPF and 0.073(95%CI:0.010-0.578,P =0.013) for clinically relevant DGE.CONCLUSION:An additional mesh-like running suturing of the pancreatic remnant and Braun's enteroenterostomy during PD decreases the incidence of postoperative complications and is beneficial for patients.Hong-Bo Meng Bo Zhou Fan Wu Jie Xu Zhen-Shun Song Jian Gong Mahbuba Khondaker Bin Xu 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,9:6

19Ecological fitness of brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), to rice nutrient management显示文摘Introduction:The brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens(Stål)(Hemiptera:Delphacidae),is a notorious insect pest of rice.Nutrient supplementation can alter plant biochemical compositions which may indirectly affect on ecological fitness parameters of its insect pest.However,few findings are available on nutrient-induced ecological fitness of BPH and relationship of BPH fitness parameters with its host rice plant biochemical contents.Methods:We studied the main and interaction effects of nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P),and potassium(K)inputs on BPH fitness,as measured by the following variables:nymph survival,nymphal duration,adult body weight,and its survival.Brown planthopper fitness parameters were regressed as function of rice plant(Oryza sativa)biochemical composition.A completely randomized design with four replications in a factorial scheme was used considering N,P,and K levels as factors.Results:Nitrogen application to the host rice plants provided greater survival and enhanced body weight of BPH.The nymphal duration was found to decrease with N subsidy that caused shorter generation time of BPH.Nitrogenous compounds N and soluble protein(SP),total free sugar(TFS),and silicon(Si)content in rice plant tissue correlated strongly with all fitness traits of BPH.Nitrogen,SP,and TFS associated positively with BPH survival and body weight,while negatively with nymphal duration.In contrast,Si had negative correlation with BPH survival and body weight,but positive with nymphal duration.Phosphorus supplementation to host plant contributed to increase BPH body weight.Relationships of P with all parameters of BPH were weak except body weight which was highly significant and positive.Interaction between N and P inputs demonstrated significant effect on BPH body weight.Application of K had no significant effect on BPH survival and development.Regression analysis did not detect significant relationship of BPH fitness parameters with plant tissue content of K.Conclusions:The results suggest that BPH ecological fitness characters were improved after N and P fertilization to rice plants which are associated with biochemical content of rice plant.Therefore,N and P inputs should be used judiciously in rice cultivation to keep BPH ecological fitness potential at minimum level.Md.Mamunur Rashid Mahbuba Jahan Khandakar S.Islam Md.Abdul Latif 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:0
20Protective Roles of Some Leafy and Non-leafy Vegetables against the Severity of Arsenic-induced Skin Lesions among Women Living in Rural Bangladesh:A Case Control Study显示文摘Arsenicosis is common among villagers as they drink more contaminated-water since the arsenic-crisis in Bangladesh.Supplementation of vitamins and micronutrients in counteracting arsenic toxicity has been proved for arsenic treatment.This study was intended to assess protective and beneficial roles of some commonly eaten vegetables on the development and severity of arsenic-induced skin lesions.A case-control study among(N=122)adult rural-women(62 cases had various forms of arsenical skin-lesions e.g.melanosis/keratosis/mixed-lesions and 60 sex-age-matched healthy-controls)was conducted in Shaharstee Upazilla of Chandpur district,Bangladesh.Socio-demographic data recorded in a pre-tested-questionnaire,‘per-day vegetables ingestion’of cases and controls were measured qualitative and quantitatively(24-hour recall-methods,food-frequency/week and food history-record/week).Multiple logistic regression/MLR analyses were performed to find out protective roles of some dietary leafy-vegetables/LVs and non-leafy vegetables/NLVs on arsenicosis and their influences on the degree of severity of arsenicosis also determined.Abstinence from taking some LVs/NLVs among cases than controls is associated with increased risk for arsenicosis(P<0.05).Amongst all most-frequently eaten vegetables(n=17)per day Momordica diocia has the highest skin protective role on arsenicosis[Adjusted odds ratio/AOR 8.2,95%CI(2.11-31.9),P=<0.01],followed by Ipomoea acquatica(AOR:7.3),Basella alba(AOR:6.2),Solanum tuberosum(AOR:4.0),Vigna unguiculata sesquipedalis(AOR:3.2),Trichosanthes anguina(AOR:1.2)and Abelmoschus esculentus(AOR:1.2).Moreover,severe skin lesion was observed as compared to non-severe cases(mild/moderate)for less intake frequencies of vegetables.This study outlined that commonly eaten vegetables have protective and beneficial roles on arsenic-induced skin lesions.Large samples longitudinal study of this important field of therapeutic-intervention is warranted.Shayla Nasrin Mahbuba Kawser Selim Ahmed Anup Kumar Saha Anamul Haque Rufaida Rahman Akhi Akter Sheikh Nazrul Islam 2022Journal of Botanical Research2022,4,1:0
