1Influence of Heat Input on Martensite Formation and Impact Property of Ferritic-Austenitic Dissimilar Weld Metals显示文摘The effect of heat input on martensite formation and impact properties of gas metal arc welded modified ferritic stainless steel (409M) sheets (as received) with thickness of 4 mm was described in detail in this work. The welded joints were prepared under three heat input conditions, i.e. 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 kJ/mm using two different austenitic filler wires (308L and 316L) and shielding gas composition of Ar + 5% CO2. The welded joints were evaluated by microstructure and charpy impact toughness. The dependence of weld metal microstructure on heat input and filler wires were determined by dilution calculation, Creq/Nieq ratio, stacking fault energy (SFE), optical microscopy (OM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was observed that the microstructure as well as impact property of weld metal was significantly affected by the heat input and filler wire. Weld metals prepared by high heat input exhibited higher amount of martensite laths and toughness compared with those prepared by medium and low heat inputs, which was true for both the filler wires. 2OPTIMAL MODE OF SEDIMENT TRANSPORT BY SHALLOW FLOWS IN UPLAND AREAS显示文摘Soil erosion and sediment movement are serious problems of upland areas of a watershed. In these areas,most of the eroded sediment is transported in overland flows; either in shallow or in concentrated flowsituations. These flows are usually associated with nonlinear waves, generally known as 'roll waves' inthe hydraulic engineering literature. Under suitable hydraulic conditions, these waves contain a significantfraction of the total kinetic energy of the flow regime. Hence, the waves act as the primary energy sourcein transporting eroded sediment in shallow flows on steep slopes. Our laborat0ry experiments undercontrolled condition suggest that modulation of the roll waves is effected by the addition of increasingamouflts of sediment in the flow. The optimal condition in the sediment transport rate is reached whenmost of the available wave energy is consumed in carrying the sediment. A related set of experiments ongravitational flows of dry granular material show that the evolving scales of sediment waves are intrinsicto the transport mechanism of the solid phase.D. PAL S. N. 3Behavior of fluxed lime iron oxide pellets in hot metal bath during melting and refining显示文摘Lump lime as a flux material in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) often creates problems in operation due to its high melting point, poor dissolution property, hygroscopic nature, and fines generation tendency. To alleviate these problems, fluxed lime iron oxide pellets (FLIP) containing 30% CaO were developed in this study using waste iron oxide fines and lime. The suitable handling strengths of the pellet (crushing strength: 300N; drop strength: 130 times) of FLIP were developed by treating with CO2 or industrial waste gas at room temperature, while no separate binders were used. When the pellet was added into hot metal bath (carbon-containing molten iron), it was decomposed, melted, and transformed to produce low melting oxidizing slag, because it is a combination of main CaO and Fe2O3 . This slag is suitable for facilitating P and C removal in refining. Furthermore, the pellet enhances waste utilization and use of CO2 in waste gas. In this article, emphasis is given on studying the behavior of these pellets in hot metal bath during melting and refining along with thermodynamics and kinetics analysis.
