| 2 | Functional self-assembling peptide nanofiber hydrogel for peripheral nerve regeneration显示文摘Peripheral nerves are fragile and easily damaged,usually resulting in nervous tissue loss,motor and sensory function loss.Advances in neuroscience and engineering have been significantly contributing to bridge the damage nerve and create permissive environment for axonal regrowth across lesions.We have successfully designed two self-assembling peptides by modifying RADA 16-I with two functional motifs IKVAV and RGD.Nanofiber hydrogel formed when combing the two neutral solutions together,defined as RADA 16-Mix that overcomes the main drawback of RADA16-I associated with low pH.In the present study,we transplanted the RADA 16-Mix hydrogel into the transected rat sciatic nerve gap and effect on axonal regeneration was examined and compared with the traditional RADA16-I hydrogel.The regenerated nerves were found to grow along the walls of the large cavities formed in the graft of RADA16-I hydrogel,while the nerves grew into the RADA 16-Mix hydrogel toward distal position.RADA 16-Mix hydrogel induced more axons regeneration and Schwann cells immigration than RADA16-I hydrogel,resulting in better functional recovery as determined by the gait-stance duration percentage and the formation of new neuromuscular junction structures.Therefore,our results indicated that the functional SAP RADA16-Mix nanofibrous hydrogel provided a better environment for peripheral nerve regeneration than RADA16-I hydrogel and could be potentially used in peripheral nerve injury repair. | Xiaoli Wu Liumin He Wen Li Heng Li Wai-Man Wong Seeram Ramakrishna Wutian Wu | 2017 | Regenerative Biomaterials2017,4,1: | 6 |
| 3 | Conversion regular patterns of acetic acid,propionic acid and butyric acid in UASB reactor显示文摘On the basis of continuous tests and batch tests, conversion regular patterns of acetate, propionate and butyrate in activated sludge at different heights of the UASB reactor were conducted. Results indicated that the conversion capacity of the microbe is decided by the substrate characteristic when sole VFA is used as the only substrate. But when mixed substrates are used,the conversion regulations would have changed accordingly. Relationships of different substrates vary according to their locations. In the whole reactor, propionate’s conversion is restrained by acetate and butyrate of high concentration. On the top and at the bottom of the reactor, conversion of acetate, but butyrate, is restrained by propionate. And in the midst, acetate’s conversion is accelerated by propionate while that of butyrate is restrained. It is proved, based on the analysis of specific conversion rate, that the space distribution of the microbe is the main factor that affects substrates’ conversion. | 4 | Effects of space environment on biological characters of tissue cultured rose seedlings显示文摘Tissue cultured rose seedlings were carried into space by SHENZHOU-4 spacecraft and then used as the experimental material to investigate effects of the space environmental conditions on morphology, cytology, physiology and molecular biology of the seedlings. After loaded on the space flight, the plant’s height, number of leaves, and fresh weight per seedling were all increased significantly compared to the ground controls. The content of chlorophyll was basically unchanged. In some cells, the ultrastructural changes involved twist, contraction and deformation of cell wall, curvature and loose arrangement of lamellae of some chloroplasts, and a significant increase in number of starch grains per chloroplast. In addition, the number of mitochondria increased, but some mitochondrial outer membrane broke, and some mitochondrial cristae disappeared. The activities of the defense enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and catalyse, in rose leaves increased and the content of malondialdehyde decreased. In the RAPD analysis with 40 10-mer primers, 36 primers generated 148 DNA bands from both of the space flight treated seedlings and the ground controls, and five primers amplified polymorphic products. | 5 | An injectable and self-healing hydrogel with controlled release of curcumin to repair spinal cord injury显示文摘The harsh local micro-environment following spinal cord injury(SCI)remains a great challenge for neural regeneration.Local reconstitution of a favorable micro-environment by biocompatible scaffolds with desirable functions has thus been an area of concern.Herein,a hybrid hydrogel was developed using Fmoc-grafted chitosan(FC)and Fmoc peptide(FI).Dynamic reversibleπ-πstacking interactions of the fluorenyl rings enabled the FC/FI hybrid hydrogel to exhibit excellent injectable and self-healing properties,as characterized by visual appearances and rheological tests.Furthermore,the FC/FI hybrid hydrogel showed a slow and persistent release of curcumin(Cur),which was named as FC/FI-Cur hydrogel.In vitro studies confirmed that with the support of FC/FI-Cur hydrogel,neurite outgrowth was promoted,and Schwann cell(SC)migration away from dorsal root ganglia(DRG)spheres with enhanced myelination was substantiated.The FC/FI-Cur hydrogel well reassembled extracellular matrix at the lesion site of rat spinal cord and exerted outstanding effects in modulating local inflammatory reaction by regulating the phenotypes of infiltrated inflammatory cells.In addition,endogenous SCs were recruited in the FC/FI-Cur graft and participated in the remyelination process of the regenerated nerves.These outcomes favored functional recovery,as evidenced by improved hind limbs movement and enhanced electrophysiological properties.Thus,our study not only advanced the development of multifunctional hydrogels but also provided insights into comprehensive approaches for SCI repair. | Jinghua Luo Xueshuang Shi Liming Li Zan Tan Feng Feng Jun Li Mao Pang Xiaoying Wang Liumin He | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,12: | 4 |
| 6 | Reversible Al^(3+) storage mechanism in anatase TiO_(2) cathode material for ionic liquid electrolyte-based aluminum-ion batteries显示文摘Rechargeable aluminum ion battery(AIB) with high theoretical specific capacity, abundant elements and low cost engages considerable attention as a promising next generation energy storage and conversion system. Nevertheless, to date, one of the major barriers to pursuit better AIB is the limited applicable cathode materials with the ability to store aluminum highly reversibly. Herein, a highly reversible AIB is proposed using mesoporous TiO2 microparticles(M-TiO2) as the cathode material. The improved performance of Ti O2/Al battery is ascribed to the high ionic conductivity and material stability, which is caused by the stable architecture with a mesoporous microstructure and no random aggregation of secondary particles. In addition, we conducted detailed characterization to gain deeper understanding of the Al^(3+) storage mechanism in anatase Ti O2 for AIB. Our findings demonstrate clearly that Al^(3+)can be reversibly stored in anatase TiO2 by intercalation reactions based on ionic liquid electrolyte. Especially, DFT calculations were used to investigate the accurate insertion sites of aluminum ions in M-Ti O2 and the volume changes of M-TiO2 cells during discharging. As for the controversial side reactions in AIBs, in this work, by normalized calculation, we confirm that M-Ti O2 alone participate in the redox reaction. | 7 | Scheduling Algorithm for Complex Product Development显示文摘This paper describes the Complex product development project scheduling problem (CPDPSP) with a great number of activities, complicated resource, precedence and calendar constraints. By the conversion of precedence constraint relations, the CPDPSP is simplified. Then, according to the predictive control principle, we propose a new scheduling algorithm Based on prediction (BoP-procedure). In order to get the problem characteristics coming from resource status and precedence constraints of the scheduling problem at the scheduling time, a sub-project is constructed on the basis of a sub-AoN (Activity on node) graph of the project. Then, we use the modified GDH-procedure to solve the sub-project scheduling problem and to obtain the maximum feasible active subset for determining the activity group which satisfies resource, precedence and calendar constraints and has the highest scheduling priority at the scheduling time. Additionaily, we make a great number of numerical computations and compare the performance of BoP-procedure algorithm with those of other scheduling algorithms. Computation results show that the BoP-procedure algorithm is more suitable for the CPDPSP. | 8 | Natural variation of H3K27me3 modification in two Arabidopsis accessions and their hybrid显示文摘Histone modifications affect gene expression, but hthe mechanism and biological consequence of natural variation igin histone modifications remain unclear. Here, we generated Hgenome-wide integrated maps of H3K27me3 modification and transcriptome for Col, C24 and their F1 hybrid. A total of 1,828 genomic regions showing variation in H3K27me3 modification between Col and C24 were identified, most of which were associated with genic regions. Natural variation of H3K27me3 modification between parents could result in allelic bias of H3K27me3 in hybrids. Furthermore, we found that H3K27me3 variation between Col and C24 was negatively correlated with gene expression differences between two accessions, especially with those arising from the cis-effect. | 13 | An Iterative Layered Tabu Search Algorithm for Complex Job Shop Scheduling Problem显示文摘In this paper, aiming at the complex characteristics that there exist two interrelated decision processes: job-assignment decision and job-sequencing decision in the complex job shop scheduling problem with parallel machines and technical constraints, we propose an Iterative layered tabu search algorithm (ILTSA), which combines the iterative and layered mechanism with tabu search algorithm. In ILTSA, we define the notation of the optimization layer including the job-assignment optimization layer and the job-sequencing optimization layer which correspond to the above two interrelated decision processes respectively. On the basis, we use the corresponding tabu search algorithms in different optimization layers and switch iteratively the above two tabu search algorithms between the two optimization layers to improve the performance of the scheduling algorithm effectively. In the above two TS algorithms, the measuring functions are the objective of the whole scheduling problem. At last, we make numerical computations for different scale scheduling problems of minimizing the makespan and minimizing the total number of tardy jobs respectively, and numerical computational results show that ILTSA is very efficient and suitable for solving larger scale job shop scheduling problem with parallel machines and technical constraints.
