| 2 | Relocation of the 10 March 2011 Yingjiang,China,earthquake sequence and its tectonic implications显示文摘An earthquake with MS5.8 occurred on 10 March 2011 in Yingjiang county,western Yunnan,China.This earthquake caused 25 deaths and over 250 injuries.In order to better understand the seismotectonics in the region,we collected the arrival time data from the Yunnan seismic observational bulletins during 1 January to 25 March 2011,and precisely hand-picked the arrival times from high-quality seismograms that were recorded by the temporary seismic stations deployed by our Institute of Crustal Dynamics,China Earthquake Administration.Using these arrival times,we relocated all the earthquakes including the Yingjiang mainshock and its aftershocks using the double-difference relocation algorithm.Our results show that the relocated earthquakes dominantly occurred along the ENE direction and formed an upside-down bow-shaped structure in depth.It is also observed that after the Yingjiang mainshock,some aftershocks extended toward the SSE over about 10 km.These results may indicate that the Yingjiang mainshock ruptured a conjugate fault system consisting of the ENE trending Da Yingjiang fault and a SSE trending blind fault.Such structural features could contribute to severely seismic hazards during the moderate-size Yingjiang earthquake. | Jianshe Lei Guangwei Zhang Furen Xie Yuan Li Youjin Su Lifang Liu Honghu Ma Junwei Zhang | 2012 | Earthquake Science2012,25,1: | 35 |
| 3 | Labile Organic Matter Content and Distribution as Affected by Six-year Soil Amendments to Eroded Chinese Mollisols显示文摘Labile organic carbon(LOC)is a fraction of soil organic carbon(SOC)with rapid turnover time and is affected by soil fertilization.This investigation characterized the SOC content,LOC content and LOC distribution in the treatment plots of surface soil erosion at five levels(0-,5-,10-,20-and 30-cm erosion).The soil had received contrasting fertilizer treatments(i.e.,chemical fertilizer or chemical fertilizer+manure)for 6 years.This study demonstrated that both SOC and various LOC fractions contents were higher in the plots with fertilizer+manure than in those with fertilizer alone under the same erosion conditions.The SOC and LOC contents decreased as the erosion depth increased.Light fraction organic carbon,particulate organic carbon,easily oxidizable organic carbon(KMnO4-oxydizable organic carbon),and microbial biomass carbon were 27%–57%,37%–47%,20%–25%,and 29%–33%higher respectively in the fertilizer+manure plots,than in the fertilizer alone plots.Positive correlations(p<0.05)between SOC content and different fractions contents were observed in all plots except the correlation between total SOC content and water-soluble organic carbon content in the different fertilization treatments.Obviously,fertilizer+manure treatments would be conducive to the accumulation of LOC and SOC in the Black soil of Northeast China. | SUI Yueyu JIAO Xiaoguang CHEN Wenting LIU Xiaobing ZHANG Xingyi DING Guangwei | 2013 | Chinese Geographical Science2013,23,6: | 7 |

| 6 | IL-17A-dependent gut microbiota is essential for regulating diet-induced disorders in mice显示文摘The gut microbiota plays a key role in obesity and related metabolic disorders, and multiple factors including diet, host genotype, and age regulate it. Many studies have examined the contribution of extrinsic factors to the regulation of the gut microbiota, but the importance of the host genetic constitution cannot be ignored. Interleukin 17A(IL-17A), a pro-inflammatory cytokine, is important in the defense against infection and diseases. Here, we investigated the association among IL-17, a high-fat diet(HFD), and the gut microbiota. Mice deficient in IL-17A were resistant to diet-induced obesity and related diseases. Compared with the Ⅱ-17^(-/-)mice, wild-type(WT) mice challenged with HFD showed obvious weight fluctuations, such as those seen in type 2 diabetes, and hematological changes similar to those associated with metabolic syndrome. However, housing WT mice and Ⅱ-17a^(-/-)mice together significantly alleviated these symptoms in the WT mice. A metagenomic analysis of the mouse feces indicated that the microbial community compositions of these two groups differed before HFD feeding. The HFD mediated shifts in the gut microbial compositions, which were associated with the mouse phenotypes.We also identified potentially beneficial and harmful species present during this period, and drew networks of the most abundant species. A functional analysis indicated pathway changes in the WT and Ⅱ-17a^(-/-)mice when fed the HFD. | 11 | Extraction and characterization of bound extracellular polymeric substances from cultured pure cyanobacterium(Microcystis wesenbergii)显示文摘Preliminary characterization of bound extracellular polymeric substances(bEPS) of cyanobacteria is crucial to obtain a better understanding of the formation mechanism of cyanobacterial bloom. However,the characterization of bEPS can be affected by extraction methods. Five sets(including the control) of bEPS from Microcystis extracted by different methods were characterized using three-dimensional excitation and emission matrix(3DEEM) fluorescence spectroscopy combined chemical spectrophotometry; and the characterization results of bEPS samples were further compared. The agents used for extraction were NaOH,pure water and phosphate buffered saline(PBS) containing cationic exchange resins,and hot water. Extraction methods affected the fluorescence signals and intensities in the bEPS. Five fluorescence peaks were observed in the excitation and emission matrix fluorescence spectra of bEPS samples. Two peaks(peaks T1 and T2) present in all extractions were identified as protein-like fluorophores,two(peaks A and C) as humic-like fluorophores,and one(peak E) as a fulvic-like substance.Among these substances,the humic-like and fulvic-like fluorescences were only seen in the bEPS extracted with hot water. Also,NaOH solution extraction could result in strong fluorescence intensities compared to the other extraction methods. It was suggested that NaOH at pH 10.0 was the most appropriate method to extract bEPS from Microcystis. In addition,dialysis could affect the yields and characteristics of extracted bEPS during the determination process. We proposed two image transmission schemes driven by reliability and real time considerations in order to transfer JPEG images over Zigbee-based sensor networks. By adding two bytes counter in the header of data packet, we can easily solve the repeated data reception problem caused by retransmission mechanism in traditional Zigbees network layer. We proposed an efficient retransmission and acknowledgment mechanism in Zigbees application layer. By classifying different data reception response events, we can provide data packets with differential responses and ensure that image packets can be transferred quickly even with large maximum number of retransmission. | 15 | Molecular characterization of bacterial community in aerobic granular sludge stressed by pentachlorophenol显示文摘To characterize the effects of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on the performance and microbial community of aerobic granular sludge in sequencing batch reactor (SBR), the web-based terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and real-time PCR (RT- PCR) techniques were used to explore the bacterial community structure. When PCP increased from 0 to 50 mg/L, the COD removal rate changed little, while the ammonia removal rate dropped from 100% to 64.9%. The results of molecular characterization showed that the quantity of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) kept constantly, although the number of bacteria species decreased with the increase of PCP concentration. Significant shift in bacterial community structure at different PCP stresses was observed within aerobic granular sludge. When the PCP was absent, there are 69 strains in aerobic granular sludge detected by T-RFLP method. With the increase of PCP, most of bacteria disappeared and only 19 bacteria existed at all five PCP concentrations. | 17 | An alternative tectonic model for the Yarlung Zangbo suture zone显示文摘The new field investigations along the Yarlung Zangbo ophiolites zone show that these series underwent low green-schist metamorphism and were then fractured and occurred as slabs in tectonic melanges,without regional tectonic polarity.No large shear zone in north-south direction has been identified between ophiolite bodies and flysch layers on both side and a conformable contact relationship can be observed locally between them.A great mass of tectonic mélange has been substantiated as submarine olistolith bodies.The Mesozoic sedimentary facies and its evolution in both north and south of the ophiolite zone are corresponding in time.The ophiolite zone has often been divided into parallel branches,separated by narrow flysch slats.There is also a similarity of the Paleozoic and the basement of the High Himalaya,Lhasa and Qiangtang Terranes,and they are distinctly different from those of the Indian continent.The geologic information does not warrant a postulate that the Himalaya and Tibet were once separated by a great ocean;it is therefore consistent with an alternative tectonic model by back-arc basin collapse with its juvenile narrow oceanic crust.The real plate tectonic suture,the Neotethys might be covered under the Miocene Siwalik molasse in the southern slope of the High Himalaya range.Based on the new model,the Neotethyan ocean floor was subducted beneath the Asia since the Late Triassic.The outer continental margin of Eurasia was split from the Lhasa Terrane so that a back-arc basin came into existence.Hemi-pelagic and deep sea sediments were deposited before the Late Cretaceous flysch sedimentation,with the linear juvenile oceanic crust when back-arc volcanism occurred in the Gandese region.The Yarlung Zangbo back-arc basin was eventually eliminated when the High Himalayas were sutured onto Eurasia.The ocean floor lightly underthrusted to north and south sides,sediments of the basin were deformed as fold-thrusting.The Neotethys was eliminated during the Tertiary when India collided with Himalaya arc from the Oligocene.The crust of southern Tibet suffered penetrative shortening,the ophiolite zone became exposed during regional uplifting,and the South Tibet Detachment System,doming in southern Tibet and rifting in a north-south direction since the Middle Miocene Epoch. | LIU XiaoHan JU YiTai WEI LiJie LI GuangWei | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,1: | 4 |
| 18 | Acupuncture for cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury Does it reduce the inflammatory reaction?显示文摘BACKGROUND:Nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in brain tissue can participate in inflammatory reactions after cerebral ischemia.Acupuncture treatment for acute cerebral ischemia produces abnormal protein expression.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of acupuncture on NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the brain tissue of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING:Randomized, controlled, animal experiments were performed at the Laboratory of Department of Neurosurgery, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China between December 2008 and October 2009.MATERIALS:Rabbit anti-NF-κB polyclonal antibody, rabbit anti-ICAM-1 polyclonal antibody, and rabbit anti-VCAM-1 polyclonal antibody were purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology, USA.METHODS:A total of 46 healthy, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to sham surgery (n=10), model (n=12), acupuncture pretreatment (n=12), and acupuncture intervention (n=12) groups.Models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were established by right common carotid artery ligation.In the acupuncture pretreatment group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days, and then models were established.In the acupuncture intervention group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days at Waiguan (SJ 5), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and Dazhui (DU 14) acupoints following model establishment.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Somatosensory asymmetry and forelimb use asymmetry were tested, as well as NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex at 4, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.RESULTS:Acupuncture improved neurological function and significantly decreased NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Acupuncture can improve neurological function, potentially via inhibition of NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. | Zhenyan Li Guangwei Zhong Sujuan Huang Yunsheng Liu Sue Wang Wei Li | 2010 | Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,14: | 4 |

| 20 | Thermal deformation behavior and microstructure of nuclear austenitic stainless steel显示文摘Gleeble-1500D thermal simulation tester was employed in the hot-compression investigation of as-cast nuclear 304 austenitic stainless steel under conditions: deformation temperature 950―1200℃; deformations 30% and 50%; deformation rates 0.01 and 0.1 s?1. The results show that the flow stress decreases with temperature rise under the same strain rate and deformation, that the flow stress increases with deformation under the same temperature and strain rate, and that the flow stress increases with strain rate under the same temperature condition, i.e., work hardening becomes distinct.
