| 1 | Evaluation Method and Mitigation Strategies for Shrinkage Cracking of Modern Concrete显示文摘The complex compositions and large shrinkage of concrete,as well as the strong constraints of the structures,often lead to prominent shrinkage cracking problems in modem concrete structures.This paper first introduces a multi-field(hydro-thermo-hygro-constraint)coupling model with the hydration degree of cementitious materials as the basic state parameter to estimate the shrinkage cracking risk of hardening concrete under coupling effects.Second,three new key technologies are illustrated:temperature rise inhibition,full-stage shrinkage compensation,and shrinkage reduction technologies.These technologies can efficiently reduce the thermal,autogenous,and drying shrinkages of concrete.There after,a design process based on the theoretical model and key technologies is proposed to control thecracking risk index below the threshold value.Finally,two engineering application examples are provided that demonstrate that concrete shrinkage cracking can be significantly mitigated by adopting the proposed methods and technologies. | Jiaping Liu Qian Tian Yujiang Wang Hua Li Wen Xu | 2021 | Engineering2021,7,3: | 15 |
| 2 | Reconstruction of hydrological changes based on tree-ring data of the Haba River, northwestern China显示文摘Reconstructing the hydrological change based on dendrohydrological data has important implications for understanding the dynamic distribution and evolution pattern of a given river. The widespread, long-living coniferous forests on the Altay Mountains provide a good example for carrying out the dendrohydrological studies. In this study, a regional composite tree-ring width chronology developed by Larix sibirica Ledeb. and Picea obovata Ledeb. was used to reconstruct a 301-year annual(from preceding July to succeeding June) streamflow for the Haba River, which originates in the southern Altay Mountains, Xinjiang, China. Results indicated that the reconstructed streamflow series and the observations were fitting well, and explained 47.5% of the variation in the observed streamflow of 1957–2008. Moreover, floods and droughts in 1949–2000 were precisely captured by the streamflow reconstruction. Based on the frequencies of the wettest/driest years and decades, we identified the 19 th century as the century with the largest occurrence of hydrological fluctuations for the last 300 years. After applying a 21-year moving average, we found five wet(1724–1758, 1780–1810, 1822–1853, 1931–1967, and 1986–2004) and four dry(1759–1779, 1811–1821, 1854–1930, and 1968–1985) periods in the streamflow reconstruction. Furthermore, four periods(1770–1796, 1816–1836, 1884–1949, and 1973–1997) identified by the streamflow series had an obvious increasing trend. The increasing trend of streamflow since the 1970s was the biggest in the last 300 years and coincided with the recent warming-wetting trend in northwestern China. A significant correlation between streamflow and precipitation in the Altay Mountains indicated that the streamflow reconstruction contained not only local, but also broad-scale, hydro-climatic signals. | 3 | Oral health in China: from vision to action显示文摘Chinese president Xi Jinping made clear at the National Health and Wellness Conference that health is the prerequisite for people's all-around development and a precondition for the sustainable development of China. Oral health is an indispensable component of overall health in humans. However, the long neglect of oral health in overall health agendas has made oral diseases an increasing concern. With this perspective, we described the global challenges of oral diseases, with an emphasis on the challenges faced by China. We also described and analyzed the recently released health policies of the Chinese government, which aim to guide midterm and long-term oral health promotion in China. More importantly, we called for specific actions to fulfill the larger goal of oral health for the nation. The implementation of primordial prevention efforts against oral diseases, the integration of oral health into the promotion of overall health, and the management of oral diseases in conjunction with other chronic non-communicable diseases with shared risk factors were highly recommended. In addition, we suggested the reform of standard clinical residency training, the development of domestic manufacturing of dental equipment and materials, the revitalization traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, and integration of oral health promotion into the Belt and Road Initiative. | 6 | BMSCs-assisted injectable Col I hydrogel-regenerated cartilage defect by reconstructing superficial and calcified cartilage显示文摘The self-healing capacity of cartilage was limited due to absence of vascular,nervous and lymphatic systems.Although many clinical treatments have been used in cartilage defect repair and shown a promising repair result in short term,however,regeneration of complete zonal structure with physiological function,reconstruction cartilage homeostasis and maintaining long-term repair was still an unbridgeable chasm.Cartilage has complex zonal structure and multiple physiological functions,especially,superficial and calcified cartilage played an important role in keeping homeostasis.To address this hurdle of regenerating superficial and calcified cartilage,injectable tissue-induced type I collagen(Col I)hydrogel-encapsulated BMSCs was chosen to repair cartilage damage.After 1 month implantation,the results demonstrated that Col I gel was able to induce BMSCs differentiation into chondrocytes,and formed hyaline-like cartilage and the superficial layer with lubrication function.After 3 months post-surgery,chondrocytes at the bottom of the cartilage layer would undergo hypertrophy and promote the regeneration of calcified cartilage.Six months later,a continuous anatomical tidemark and complete calcified interface were restored.The regeneration of neo-hyaline cartilage was similar with adjacent normal tissue on the thickness of the cartilage,matrix secretion,collagen type and arrangement.Complete multilayer zonal structure with physiological function remodeling indicated that BMSCs-assisted injectable Col I hydrogel could reconstruct cartilage homeostasis and maintain long-term therapeutic effect. | Hanxu Cai PeileiWang Yang Xu Ya Yao Jia Liu Tao Li Yong Sun Jie Liang Yujiang Fan Xingdong Zhang | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,1: | 4 |

A class of novel controllers is designed for the pinning synchronization of fractional complex networks with disturbances. By using this technique, fractional calculus theory and linear matrix inequalities, all nodes of the fractional complex networks reach complete synchronization. In the above framework, the coupling-configuration matrix and the innercoupling matrix are not necessarily symmetric. | 12 | Facile synthesis and electrochemical properties of MnO_2/carbon nanotubes显示文摘The poor electrical conductivity of MnO_2 limits its use as an electrode material.To overcome this limitation,we report an easy and rapid approach to deposit nanosized MnO_2 onto multi-wall carbon nanotubes functionalized with hydroxyl groups(MWCNTs-OH) by chemical reduction of KMnO_4 with MnSO_4 in aqueous solution under ambient conditions.Characterization with XRD and TEM reveals that the obtained MnO_2/MWCNTs-OH composite is nanocrystalline and partially covered by MnO_2 nanosheets with a thickness of 1-3 nm at a MnO_2 loading of 20 wt%.Cyclic voltammetry(CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge measurements reveal that the MnO_2/MWCNTs-OH composite with a MnO_2 loading of 20 wt% has a relatively high specific capacitance of 234 F/g at a scan rate of 2mV/s and exhibits good cycling stability.Furthermore,the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) shows that MnO_2/MWCNTs-OH composite may have potential applications as a non-noble metal electrocatalyst in fuel cells and metal-air batteries. | Yang Lv Huanqiao Li Yan Xie Shushuang Li Jia Li Yongheng Xing Yujiang Song | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,4: | 2 |

| 18 | Effect of valproic acid on endogenous neural stem cell proliferation in a rat model of spinal cord injury显示文摘BACKGROUND:Valproic acid has been reported to decrease apoptosis,promote neuronal differentiation of brain-derived neural stem cells,and inhibit glial differentiation of brain-derived neural stem cells. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of valproic acid on proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells in a rat model of spinal cord injury. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized,controlled,neuropathological study was performed at Key Laboratory of Trauma,Burrning,and Combined Injury,Research Institute of Surgery,Daping Hospital,the Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA between November 2005 and February 2007. MATERIALS:A total of 45 adult,Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham surgery(n=5),injury (n=20),and valproic acid(n=20) groups.Valproic acid was provided by Sigma,USA. METHODS:Injury was induced to the T_(10) segment in the injury and valproic acid groups using the metal weight-dropping method.The spinal cord was exposed without contusion in the sham surgery group.Rats in the valproic acid group were intraperitoneally injected with 150 mg/kg valproic acid every 12 hours(twice in total). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Nestin expression(5 mm from injured center) was detected using immunohistochemistry at 1,3 days,1,4,and 8 weeks post-injury. RESULTS:Low expression of nestin was observed in the cytoplasm,but rarely in the white matter of the spinal cord in the sham surgery group.In the injury group,nestin expression was observed in the ependyma and pia mater one day after injury,and expression reached a peak at 1 week(P<0.05). Expression was primarily observed in the ependymal cells,which expanded towards the white and gray matter of the spinal cord.Nestin expression rapidly decreased by 4 weeks post-injury,and had almost completely disappeared by 8 weeks.At 24 hours after spinal cord injury,there was no significant difference in nestin expression between the valproic acid and injury groups.At 1 week, there was a significant increase in the number of nestin-positive cells surrounding the central canal in valproic acid group compared with the injury group(P<0.05).Expression reached a peak by 4 weeks,and it was still present at 8 weeks.
