Effects of RapidEye Imagery's Red-edge Band and Vegetation Indices on Land Cover Classification in an Arid Region显示文摘Land cover classification(LCC) in arid regions is of great significance to the assessment, prediction, and management of land desertification. Some studies have shown that the red-edge band of RapidE ye images was effective for vegetation identification and could improve LCC accuracy. However, there has been no investigation of the effects of RapidE ye images' red-edge band and vegetation indices on LCC in arid regions where there are spectrally similar land covers mixed with very high or low vegetation coverage information and bare land. This study focused on a typical inland arid desert region located in Dunhuang Basin of northwestern China. First, five feature sets including or excluding the red-edge band and vegetation indices were constructed. Then, a land cover classification system involving plant communities was developed. Finally, random forest algorithm-based models with different feature sets were utilized for LCC. The conclusions drawn were as follows: 1) the red-edge band showed slight contribution to LCC accuracy; 2) vegetation indices had a significant positive effect on LCC; 3) simultaneous addition of the red-edge band and vegetation indices achieved a significant overall accuracy improvement(3.46% from 86.67%). In general, vegetation indices had larger effect than the red-edge band, and simultaneous addition of them significantly increased the accuracy of LCC in arid regions.LI Xianju CHEN Gang LIU Jingyi CHEN Weitao CHENG Xinwen LIAO Yiwei 2017Chinese Geographical Science2017,27,5:8
Nicotinamide mononucleotide improves spermatogenic function in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice via modulating the glycolysis pathway显示文摘Spermatogenic dysfunction is one of the major secondary complications of diabetes;however, the underlying mechanisms remain ill-defined,and there is no available drug or strategy for the radical treatment of diabetic spermatogenic dysfunction. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the protective effects of nicotinamide mononucleotide(NMN)on testicular spermatogenic function in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic mice. The results show that oral administration of NMN significantly increases the body and testis weight and the number of sperms. Moreover, the abnormal sperm count and the rate of sperm malformation are significantly decreased compared with the saline-treated diabetic mice.Histological analysis reveals that NMN treatment significantly increases the area and diameter of seminiferous tubules, accompanied by an increased number of spermatogenic cells and sperms.Immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR results show that NMN increases Bcl-2 expression and decreases Bax expression in the testis.NMN also increases the protein expression of Vimentin and the mRNA expressions of WT1 and GATA4.In addition,qRT-PCR,western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry results also show that NMN increases the expressions of glycolysis-related rate-limiting enzymes including HK2,PKM2,and LDHA.In summary, this study demonstrates the protective effects of NMN on the testis in an STZ-induced diabetic mice model.NMN exerts its protective effects via reducing spermatogenic cell apoptosis by regulating glycolysis of Sertoli cells in diabetic mice. This study provides an experimental basis for the future clinical application of NMN in diabetes-induced spermatogenicdysfunction.Duo Ma Linlin Hu Jinyuan Wang Min Luo Aihong Liang Xiaocan Lei Biyun Liao Meixiang Li Ming Xie Haicheng Li Yiwei Gong Dan Zi Xiangrun Li Xi Chen Xucai Liao 2022Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2022,54,9:1
A numerical model for cloud cavitation based on bubble cluster显示文摘The cavitation cloud of different internal structures results in different collapse pressures owing to the interaction among bubbles. The internal structure of cloud cavitation is required to accurately predict collapse pressure. A cavitation model was developed through dimensional analysis and direct numerical simulation of collapse of bubble cluster. Bubble number density was included in proposed model to characterize the internal structure of bubble cloud. Implemented on flows over a projectile, the proposed model predicts a higher collapse pressure compared with Singhal model. Results indicate that the collapse pressure of detached cavitation cloud is affected by bubble number density.Tezhuan Du Yiwei Wang Chenguang Huang Lijuan Liao 2017Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2017,7,4:1
Zircon U-Pb geochronology of the Chinese continental crust: a preliminary analysis of the Elsevier science database显示文摘The amount of zircon U-Pb geochronological data for China has grown rapidly in recent years.Nearly 410,000 items of zircon U-Pb geochronological data, representing more than 7,000 relevant articles in the Elsevier Science Database, have been collected to a database in this research.Statistics on the ages and absolute errors of these collated data, yielded smallest standard errors for(206Pb/238U),(207Pb/235U),and(207Pb/206Pb)ages within respective time intervals of<1388.96 Ma,1388.96–3282.52 Ma,and>3282.52 Ma.The ages and their absolute errors were determined using three main geochronology methods, based on laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometer(LA-ICP-MS),sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe(SHRIMP),and secondary ion mass spectrometer(SIMS)measurements. We compared the influence of these different methods on errors for each age interval. In addition, using a Gaussian model of multi-peak fitting of zircon U-Pb age frequencies,we identified seven growth peaks in zircons from the Chinese continental crust, which are 48.60 Ma,131.49 Ma,249.91 Ma,444.27 Ma,835.95 Ma,1860.65 Ma,and 2505.54 Ma.It is clear that there are correspondences between these ages and various geological events, namely, the Wutai movement,Lvliang movement,Jinning movement,Caledonian movement,Indo-China movement,Yanshan movement, and Himalayaorogeny movement, respectively. The time and spatial distributions of these zircons correspond to distinct geological events on the Chinese continent, reflecting its crustal evolution.Yujing Wu Xianjun Fang Sisi Liao Lizhi Xue Zhe Chen Jiangnan Yang Yamin Lu Kun Ling Shengyi Hu Shuyuan Kong Yiwei Xiong Huacheng Li Xiuqi Shang Rui Ji Xueyun Lu Biao Song Lei Zhang Jianqing Ji 2019Big Earth Data2019,3,1:1
The miR-27a-3p/FTO axis modifies hypoxia-induced malignant behaviors of glioma cells显示文摘Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is one of the most malignant types of central nervous system(CNS)tumors.N6-methyladenine(m6A)RNA modification is a main type of RNA modification in eukaryotic cells. In this study,we find that the m6A RNA methylation eraser FTO is dramatically downregulated in glioma samples and cell lines, particularly in intermediate and core regions and hypoxia-challenged glioma cells. In vitro,FTO overexpression inhibits the hypoxia-induced capacities of glioma cells to proliferate, migrate and invade, and decreases the percentage of cells with m6A RNA methylation. In vivo,FTO overexpression inhibits tumor growth in the xenograft model and decreases the protein levels of migration markers, including Vimentin and Twist.miR-27a-3p is upregulated within glioma intermediate and core regions and hypoxia-challenged glioma cells.miR-27a-3p inhibits the expression of FTO via direct binding to FTO.miR-27a-3p overexpression promotes hypoxia-challenged glioma cell aggressiveness, whereas FTO overexpression partially diminishes the oncogenic effects of miR-27a-3p overexpression.FTO overexpression promotes the nuclear translocation of FOXO3a and upregulates the expression levels of the FOXO3a downstream targets BIM,BNIP3,BCL-6,and PUMA,possibly by interacting with FOXO3a.Conclusively,FTO serves as a tumor suppressor in glioma by suppressing hypoxia-induced malignant behaviors of glioma cells, possibly by promoting the nuclear translocation of FOXO3a and upregulating FOXO3a downstream targets.miR-27a-3p is a major contributor to FTO downregulation in glioma under hypoxia.Peng Du Li Meng Xinbin Liao Yi Liu Xin Mo Mengqi Gong Yiwei Liao 2023Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2023,55,1:1

Surgical treatment of brainstem cavernous malformations with three basic skull base approaches and minimally invasive techniques: Observations in 20 patients显示文摘Objective: Brainstem cavernous malformation(BSCM) is extremely challenging for neurosurgeons in terms of surgical approach choices. In this article, we summarized our experience in skull base approaches of BSCM, and elucidated the advance of surgical treatments of brain stem cavernous malformation through reviewing recent relevant articles. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 20 consecutive patients who underwent resection between May 1, 2014 and April 30, 2016. Only midline suboccipital, subtemporal approach and retrosigmoid approach were used in this series. The diagnoses of all patients were confirmed by radiological and histological examination. Results: All 20 patients were completely extirpated without surgical-related mortality. The mean follow-up period was 9.5 months(range, 2-20 months). Of the 20 patients, 80%symptomatic patients underwent surgery after first bleeding episode within 3 months,20% after two or more bleeding episodes by magnetic resonance imaging. After resection and during follow-up, 75% of patients had an improvement in their modified Rankin scale(m RS) scores, whereas 10% were worse compared with their preoperative presentation; 15% were unchanged. Conclusion: Appropriate basic surgical approach and minimally invasive techniques are necessary in preventing impairment of neurologic function. The three common basic skull base approaches, combined with minimally invasive techniques can handle most of BSCMs with good surgical results.Wen Yin Jianrong Ma Yiwei Liao 2017Translational Neuroscience and Clinics2017,3,2:0

The burgeoning importance of PIWI-interacting RNAs in cancer progression显示文摘PIWI-interacting RNAs(pi RNAs)are a class of small noncoding RNA molecules that specifically bind to piwi protein family members to exert regulatory functions in germ cells.Recent studies have found that pi RNAs,as tissue-specific molecules, both play oncogenic and tumor suppressive roles in cancer progression, including cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, chemoresistance and stemness.Additionally, the atypical manifestation of pi RNAs and PIWI proteins in various malignancies presents a promising strategy for the identification of novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets in the diagnosis and management of tumors.Nonetheless, the precise functions of pi RNAs in cancer progression and their underlying mechanisms have yet to be fully comprehended. This review aims to examine current research on the biogenesis and functions of pi RNA and its burgeoning importance in cancer progression, thereby offering novel perspectives on the potential utilization of pi RNAs and piwi proteins in the management and treatment of advanced cancer.Xinpei Deng Tianle Liao Jindong Xie Da Kang Yiwei He Yuying Sun Zhangling Wang Yongluo Jiang Xuan Miao Yixuan Yan Hailin Tang Lewei Zhu Yutian Zou Peng Liu 2024Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,4:0
Crustal evolution events in the Chinese continent: evidence from a zircon U-Pb database显示文摘The zircon U-Pb chronology database provides a good opportunity to obtain important zircon growth peak periods in the Earth’s history so as to study the origin and evolution of the crust. It should be noted that research preference affects the objectivity of zircon sampling, leading to hot data in the database and age statistics. To evaluate the influence of hot data on statistical results, the W and Y indexes are introduced.Using a Gaussian model of multipeak fitting of zircon U-Pb age frequencies,we identify seven major growth peaks in zircons from the Chinese continental crust, which are 2498.95,1855.82,828.88,444.29,249.46,131.96,and 58.21 Ma.Due to differences in the time scales of zircon growth peaks, these peaks can be divided into two categories:first-order zircon growth peaks(Ⅰ)and second-order zircon growth peaks(Ⅱ),which represent longer and shorter time scales, perhaps due to different kinds of geological dynamics, respectively. In addition, there are clear correspondences between these ages and various geological events recognized by most scholars, namely, the Wutai orogeny,Lvliang orogeny,Jinning orogeny,Caledonian orogeny,Indosinian orogeny,Yanshanian orogeny, and Himalayan orogeny, respectively.Yujing Wu Xianjun Fang Sisi Liao Lizhi Xue Zhe Chen Jiangnan Yang Yamin Lu Kun Ling Shengyi Hu Shuyuan Kong Yiwei Xiong Huacheng Li Xiuqi Shang Rui Ji Xueyun Lu Biao Song Lei Zhang Jianqing Ji 2020International Journal of Digital Earth2020,13,12:0
Transcriptomic analysis identifies the neuropeptide cortistatin (CORT) as an inhibitor of temozolomide (TMZ) resistance by suppressing the NF-kB-MGMT signaling axis in human glioma显示文摘Glioma is a common tumor originating in the brain that has a high mortality rate.Temozolomide(TMZ)is the first-line treatment for high-grade gliomas. However,a large pro-portion of gliomas are resistant to TMZ,posing a great challenge to their treatment. In the study, the specific functions and mechanism(s)by which cortistatin(CORT)regulates TMZ resis-tance and glioma progression were evaluated. The decreased expression of CoRT was detected in glioma tissues, and highly expressed CORT was associated with a better survival rate in pa-tients with glioma.CORT overexpression notably decreased the capacity of glioma cells to pro-liferate and migrate in vitro and to form tumors in vivo.CORT overexpression also markedly suppressed the viability and enhanced the apoptosis of TMZ-resistant U251 cells by regulating MGMT,p21,and Puma expression.Importantly,CORT overexpression reduced the resistance of gliomas to TMZ in vivo.CORT expression Was negatively correlated with MGMT expression in both glioma tissues and cells, and it was found that CORT inhibited NF-kB pathway activation in glioma cells, thereby inhibiting MGMT expression. In conclusion,CORT regulates glioma cell growth, migration, apoptosis, and TMZ resistance by weakening the activity of NF-kB/p65 and thereby regulating MGMT expression. The CORT/NF-kB/MGMT axis might be regarded as a molecular mechanism contributing to the resistance of glioma to TMZ.Our data also suggest that CORT regulates the viability and metastatic potential of glioma cells, independent of its effects on TMZ resistance, providing evidence of novel therapeutic targets for glioma that should be evaluated infurther studies.Zongze He Bo Peng Qi Wang Jie Tian Ping Liu Jie Feng Yiwei Liao Longyi Chen Ping Jia Jian Tang 2024Genes & Diseases2024,11,3:0
