Salient region detection and segmentation for general object recognition and image understanding显示文摘General object recognition and image understanding is recognized as a dramatic goal for computer vision and multimedia retrieval. In spite of the great efforts devoted in the last two decades, it still remains an open problem. In this paper, we propose a selective attention-driven model for general image understanding, named GORIUM (general object recognition and image understanding model). The key idea of our model is to discover recurring visual objects by selective attention modeling and pairwise local invariant features matching on a large image set in an unsupervised manner. Towards this end, it can be formulated as a four-layer bottom-up model, i.e., salient region detection, object segmentation, automatic object discovering and visual dictionary construction. By exploiting multi-task learning methods to model visual saliency simultaneously with the bottom-up and top-down factors, the lowest layer can effectively detect salient objects in an image. The second layer exploits a simple yet effective learning approach to generate two complementary maps from several raw saliency maps, which then can be utilized to segment the salient objects precisely from a complex scene. For the third layer, we have also implemented an unsupervised approach to automatically discover general objects from large image set by pairwise matching with local invariant features. Afterwards, visual dictionary construction can be implemented by using many state-of-the-art algorithms and tools available nowadays. | HUANG TieJun TIAN YongHong LI Jia YU HaoNan | 2011 | Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,12: | 14
Phytophthora sojae Effector PsAvh240 Inhibits Host Aspartic Protease Secretion to Promote Infection显示文摘Plants secrete defense molecules into the extracellular space (the apoplast) to combat attacking microbes. However, the mechanisms by which successful pathogens subvert plant apoplastic immunity remain poorly understood. In this study, we show that PsAvh240, a membrane-localized effector of the soybean pathogen Phytophthora sojae, promotes P. sojae infection in soybean hairy roots. We found that PsAvh240 interacts with the soybean-resistant aspartic protease GmAP1 in planta and suppresses the secretion of GmAP1 into the apoplast. By solving its crystal structure we revealed that PsAvh240 contain six a helices and two WY motifs. The first two a helices of PsAvh240 are responsible for its plasma membrane-localization and are required for PsAvh240's interaction with GmAP1. The second WY motifs of two PsAvh240 molecules form a handshake arrangement resulting in a handshake-like dimer. This dimerization is required for the effector's repression of GmAP1 secretion. Taken together, these data reveal that PsAvh240 localizes at the plasma membrane to interfere with GmAP1 secretion, which represents an effective mechanism by which effector proteins suppress plant apoplastic immunity. | Baodian Guo Haonan Wang Bo Yang Wenjing Jiang Maofeng Jing Haiyang Li Yeqiang Xia Yuanpeng Xu Qinli Hu Fangfang Wang Feng Yu Yan Wang Wenwu Ye Suomeng Dong Weiman Xing Yuanchao Wang | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,4: | 12
A state-of-the-art review on passivation and biofouling of Ti and its alloys in marine environments显示文摘High strength-to-weight ratio, commendable biocompatibility and excellent corrosion resistance make Ti alloys widely applicable in aerospace, medical and marine industries. However, these alloys suffer from serious biofouling, and may become vulnerable to corrosion attack under some extreme marine conditions. The passivating and biofouling performance of Ti alloys can be attributed to their compact, stable and protective films. This paper comprehensively reviews the passivating and biofouling behavior,as well as their mechanisms, for typical Ti alloys in various marine environments. This review aims to help extend applications of Ti alloys in extremely harsh marine conditions. | Shaokun Yan Guang-Ling Song Zhengxian Li Haonan Wang Dajiang Zheng Fuyong Cao Miroslava Horynova Matthew S.Dargusch Lian Z-hou | 2018 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,3: | 11
Endothelial CDS2 deficiency causes VEGFA-mediated vascular regression and tumor inhibition显示文摘The response of endothelial cells to signaling stimulation is critical for vascular morphogenesis, homeostasis and function.Vascular endothelial growth factor-a(VEGFA)has been commonly recognized as a pro-angiogenic factor in vertebrate developmental, physiological and pathological conditions for decades. Here we report a novel finding that genetic ablation of CDP-diacylglycerol synthetase-2(CDS2),a metabolic enzyme that controls phosphoinositide recycling, switches the output of VEGFA signaling from promoting angiogenesis to unexpectedly inducing vessel regression.Live imaging analysis uncovered the presence of reverse migration of the angiogenic endothelium in cds2 mutant zebrafish upon VEGFA stimulation, and endothelium regression also occurred in postnatal retina and implanted tumor models in mice.In tumor models,CDS2 deficiency enhanced the level of tumorsecreted VEGFA,which in-turn trapped tumors into a VEGFA-induced vessel regression situation, leading to suppression of tumor growth.Mechanistically,VEGFA stimulation reduced phosphatidylinositol(4,5)-bisphosphate(PIP2)availability in the absence of CDS2-controlled-phosphoinositide metabolism, subsequently causing phosphatidylinositol(3,4,5)-triphosphate(PIP3)deficiency and F0X01 activation to trigger regression of CDS2-null endothelium. Thus, our data indicate that the effect of VEGFA on vasculature is context-dependent and can be converted from angiogenesis to vascular regression. | Wencao Zhao Le Cao Hanru Ying Wenjuan Zhang Dantong Li Xiaolong Ziiu Wenzhi Xue Shuang Wu Mengye Cao Cong Fu Haonan Qi Yimei Hao Yun-Chi Tang Jun Qin Tao PZhong Xiaoxi Lin Luyang Yu Xuri Li Lin Li Dianqing Wu Weijun Pan | 2019 | Cell Research2019,29,11: | 9
Nonlinear aeroelastic analysis of the folding fin with freeplay under thermal environment显示文摘The nonlinear aeroelastic behavior of a folding fin in supersonic flow is investigated in this paper. The finite element model of the fin is established and the deployable hinges are represented by three torsion springs with the freeplay nonlinearity. The aerodynamic grid point is assumed to be at the center of each aerodynamic box for simplicity. The aerodynamic governing equation is given by using the infinite plate spline method and the modified linear piston theory. An improved fixed-interface modal synthesis method, which can reduce the rigid connections at the interface,is developed to save the problem size and computation time. The uniform temperature field is applied to create the thermal environment. For the linear flutter analyses, the flutter speed increases first and then decreases with the rise of the hinge stiffness due to the change of the flutter coupling mechanism. For the nonlinear analyses,a larger freeplay angle results in a higher vibration divergent speed. Two different types of limit cycle oscillations and a multiperiodic motion are observed in the wide range of airspeed under the linear flutter boundary. The linear flutter speed shows a slight descend in the thermal environment, but the effect of the temperature on the vibration divergent speed is different under different hinge stiffnesses when there exists freeplay. | Haonan HE Hong TANG Kaiping YU Jinze LI Ning YANG Xiaolei ZHANG | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2020,33,9: | 8
Modified Multi-Key Fully Homomorphic Encryption Based on NTRU Cryptosystem without Key-Switching显示文摘The Multi-Key Fully Homomorphic Encryption (MKFHE) based on the NTRU cryptosystem is an important alternative to the post-quantum cryptography due to its simple scheme form, high efficiency, and fewer ciphertexts and keys.In 2012,Lopez-Alt et al.proposed the first NTRU-type MKFHE scheme, the LTV12 scheme, using the key-switching and modulus-reduction techniques, whose security relies on two assumptions:the Ring Learning With Error (RLWE) assumption and the Decisional Small Polynomial Ratio (DSPR) assumption. However, the LTV12and subsequent NTRU-type schemes are restricted to the family of power-of-2 cyclotomic rings, which may affect the security in the case of subfield attacks. Moreover, the key-switching technique of the LTV12 scheme requires a circular application of evaluation keys, which causes rapid growth of the error and thus affects the circuit depth. In this paper,an NTRU-type MKFHE scheme over prime cyclotomic rings without key-switching is proposed, which has the potential to resist the subfield attack and decrease the error exponentially during the homomorphic evaluating process.First, based on the RLWE and DSPR assumptions over the prime cyclotomic rings,a detailed analysis of the factors affecting the error during the homomorphic evaluations in the LTV12 scheme is provided.Next,a Low Bit Discarded&Dimension Expansion of Ciphertexts (LBD&DEC) technique is proposed, and the inherent homomorphic multiplication decryption structure of the NTRU is proposed, which can eliminate the key-switching operation in the LTV12 scheme. Finally,a leveled NTRU-type MKFHE scheme is developed using the LBD&DEC and modulus-reduction techniques. The analysis shows that the proposed scheme compared to the LTV12 scheme can decrease the magnitude of the error exponentially and minimize the dimension of ciphertexts. | Xiaoliang Che Tanping Zhou Ningbo Li Haonan Zhou Zhenhua Chen Xiaoyuan Yang | 2020 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2020,25,5: | 6

Impacts of land use and salinization on soil inorganic and organic carbon in the middle-lower Yellow River Delta显示文摘Soil inorganic carbon(SIC)is an important reservoir of carbon(C)in arid,semi-arid,and semi-humid regions. However, knowledge is incomplete on the dynamics of SIC and its relationship with soil organic C(SOC)under different land use types in the semi-humid region, particularly in coastal zones impacted by soil salinization. We collected 170 soil samples from 34 profiles across various land use types(maize-wheat,cotton,paddy,and reed)in the middle-lower Yellow River Delta(YRD),China. We measured soil pH,electrical conductivity(EC),water-soluble salts, and SOC and SIC contents. Our results showed significant differences in both SOC and SIC among land use types. The dry cropland(maize-wheat and cotton)soils had significantly higher SOC and SIC densities(4.71 and 15.46 kg C m^(-2),respectively)than the paddy soils(3.28 and 14.09 kg C m^(-2),respectively)in the 0–100 cm layer.Compared with paddy soils, reed soils contained significantly higher SOC(4.68 kg C m^(-2))and similar SIC(15.02 kg C m^(-2))densities.There was a significant positive correlation between SOC and SIC densities over a 0–100 cm soil depth in dry cropland soils, but a negative relationship in the paddy soils. On average,SOC and SIC densities under maize-wheat cropping were 15%and 4%lower,respectively,in the salt-affected soils in the middle-lower YRD than the upper YRD.This study indicated that land use types had great influences on both SOC and SIC and their relationship, and salinization had adverse effect on soil C storage in the YRD. | Yang GUO Xiujun WANG Xianglan LI Minggang XU Yuan LI Haonan ZHENG Yongming LUO Pete SMITH | 2021 | Pedosphere2021,31,6: | 4
Fracture behavior and self-sharpening mechanisms of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride in grinding based on cohesive element method显示文摘Unlike monocrystalline cubic boron nitride(CBN), polycrystalline CBN(PCBN) shows not only higher fracture resistance induced by tool-workpiece interaction but also better selfsharpening capability;therefore, efforts have been devoted to the study of PCBN applications in manufacturing engineering. Most of the studies, however, remain qualitative due to difficulties in experimental observations and theoretical modeling and provide limited in-depth understanding of the self-sharpening behavior/mechanism. To fill this research gap, the present study investigates the self-sharpening process of PCBN abrasives in grinding and analyzes the macro-scale fracture behavior and highly localized micro-scale crack propagation in detail. The widely employed finite element(FE) method, together with the classic Voronoi diagram and cohesive element technique,is used considering the pronounced success of FE applications in polycrystalline material modeling.Grinding trials with careful observation of the PCBN abrasive morphologies are performed to validate the proposed method. The self-sharpening details, including fracture morphology, grinding force, strain energy, and damage dissipation energy, are studied. The effects of maximum grain cut depths(MGCDs) and grinding speeds on the PCBN fracture behavior are discussed, and their optimum ranges for preferable PCBN self-sharpening performance are suggested. | Xin HUANG Haonan LI Zhiwen RAO Wenfeng DING | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2019,32,12: | 3
Hydrothermal Systems Characterized by Crustal Thermally-dominated Structures of Southeastern China显示文摘Southeastern China(SE China)is located in the Pacific tectonic domain and has experienced a series of tectono-magmatic events induced by the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate since the late Mesozoic. The subduction formed a series of NE-NNE oriented faults under a NW-SE regional stress field, along which a number of thermal springs occur.Previous studies have focused on the genesis mechanism of specific geothermal fields in SE China, but the general characteristics of hydrothermal systems in SE China remains unclear. In this study,we investigate the correlation between geothermal activity, hydrochemical type and regional faults by studying the distribution of hydrothermal activity and geochemical properties of typical hydrothermal systems in SE China. The hydrothermal systems in SE China have a crustal thermally-dominated structural origin unique to the specific geological and tectonic conditions of the Eurasian Plate margin. The upwelling of the asthenosphere and the widespread granitoids with high radiogenic heat production in SE China provide major heat sources for regional geothermal anomalies. The NE-oriented crustal thermally-dominated faults are critical for the formation of geothermal anomalies and NW-oriented extensional faults have created favorable conditions for meteoric water infiltration, transportation and the formation of thermal springs. | WANG Guiling GAN Haonan LIN Wenjing YUE Gaofan YAN Xiaoxue LI Tingxin ZHANG Wei MA Feng | 2023 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2023,97,4: | 2
Cross-species single-cell transcriptomic analysis reveals divergence of cell composition and functions in mammalian ileum epithelium显示文摘Animal models are widely used for biomedical studies and drug evaluation. The small intestine plays key roles in nutrient absorption, hormone secretion, microbiota defense and drug absorption and metabolism.Although the intestinal structure of mammals is conserved, the differences on epithelial cell composition, functional assignments and drug absorption among mammals are largely unknown.Here,cross-species analysis of single-cell transcriptomic atlas of the ileum epithelium from mouse, rat, pig, macaque and human reveals the conserved and differential cell types and functions among species, identifies a new CA7+cell type in pig, macaque and human ileum, uncovers the distinct expression pattern in enterocytes, enteroendocrine cells and Paneth cells, and defines the conserved and species-specific intestinal stem cell signature genes. The examination of drug absorption across species suggests that drug metabolism in mouse ileum is closer to human while drug transport in macaque ileum is more similar to human.Together, our data provide the comprehensive information about cell composition and functional assignments in five species, and offer the valuable guidance for animal model selection and drug testing. | Haonan Li Xiaodan Wang Yalong Wang Mengxian Zhang Fan Hong Hong Wang Along Cui Jianguo Zhao Weizhi Ji Ye-Guang Chen | 2022 | Cell Regeneration2022,11,1: | 2
PMN-MDSCs modulated by CCL20 from cancer cells promoted breast cancer cell stemness through CXCL2-CXCR2 pathway显示文摘Our previous studies have showed that C-C motif chemokine ligand 20(CCL20)advanced tumor progression and enhanced the chemoresistance of cancer cells by positively regulating breast cancer stem cell(BCSC)self-renewal.However,it is unclear whether CCL20 affects breast cancer progression by remodeling the tumor microenvironment(TME).Here,we observed that polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells(PMN-MDSCs)were remarkably enriched in TME of CCL20-overexpressing cancer cell orthotopic allograft tumors.Mechanistically,CCL20 activated the differentiation of granulocyte-monocyte progenitors(GMPs)via its receptor C-C motif chemokine receptor 6(CCR6)leading to the PMN-MDSC expansion.PMN-MDSCs from CCL20-overexpressing cell orthotopic allograft tumors(CCL20-modulated PMN-MDSCs)secreted amounts of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 2(CXCL2)and increased ALDH+BCSCs via activating CXCR2/NOTCH1/HEY1 signaling pathway.Furthermore,C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2(CXCR2)antagonist SB225002 enhanced the docetaxel(DTX)effects on tumor growth by decreasing BCSCs in CCL20high-expressing tumors. These findings elucidated how CCL20 modulated the TME to promote cancer development, indicating a new therapeutic strategy by interfering with the interaction between PMN-MDSCs and BCSCs in breast cancer, especially in CCL20high-expressing breast cancer. | Rui Zhang Mengxue Dong Juchuanli Tu Fengkai Li Qiaodan Deng Jiahui Xu Xueyan He Jiajun Ding Jie Xia Dandan Sheng Zhaoxia Chang Wei Ma Haonan Dong Yi Zhang Lixing Zhang Lu Zhang Suling Liu | 2023 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,4: | 2
Impact of switching frequencies on the TID response of SiC power MOSFETs显示文摘Different switching frequencies are required when SiC metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors(MOSFETs)are switching in a space environment. In this study, the total ionizing dose(TID)responses of SiC power MOSFETs are investigated under different switching frequencies from 1 kHz to 10 MHz.A significant shift was observed in the threshold voltage as the frequency increased, which resulted in premature failure of the drain-source breakdown voltage and drain-source leakage current. The degradation is attributed to the high activation and low recovery rates of traps at high frequencies. The results of this study suggest that a targeted TID irradiation test evaluation method can be developed according to the actual switching frequency of SiC power MOSFETs. | Sheng Yang Xiaowen Liang Jiangwei Cui Qiwen Zheng Jing Sun Mohan Liu Dang Zhang Haonan Feng Xuefeng Yu Chuanfeng Xiang Yudong Li Qi Guo | 2021 | Journal of Semiconductors2021,42,8: | 2
Ecological selection of bacterial taxa with larger genome sizes in response to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons stress显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)are ubiquitous priority pollutants that cause great damage to the natural environment and health.Average genome size in a community is critical for shedding light on microbiome's functional response to pollution stress within an environment. Here, microcosms under different concentrations were performed to evaluate the selection of PAHs stress on the average genome size in a community. We found the distinct communities of significantly larger genome size with the increase of PAHs concentration gradients in soils, and consistent trends were discovered in soils at different latitudes. The abundance of Proteobacteria and Deinococcus-Thermus with relatively larger genomes increased along with PAHs stress and well adapted to polluted environments. In contrast, the abundance of Patescibacteria with a highly streamlined and smaller genome decreased, implying complex interactions between environmental selection and functional fitness resulted in bacteria with larger genomes becoming more abundant. Moreover,we confirmed the increased capacity for horizontal transfer of degrading genes between communities by showing an increased connection number per node positively related to the nid A gene along the concentration gradients in the co-occurrence network. Our findings suggest PAHs tend to select bacterial taxa with larger genome sizes, with significant consequences for community stability and potential biodegradation strategies. | Yuzhu Dong Shanghua Wu Haonan Fan Xianglong Li Yijing Li Shengjun Xu Zhihui Bai Xuliang Zhuang | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,2: | 2
Molecular weight determination of a newly synthesized guanidinylated disulfide-containing poly(amido amine) by gel permeation chromatography显示文摘A cationic gene delivery vector, guanidinylated disulfide-containing poly(amido amine)(CARCBA), was synthesized by Michael addition reaction between N,N′-cystaminebisacrylamide(CBA) and guanidine hydrochloride(CAR). Gel permeation chromatography(GPC) was used to evaluate the molecular weight of synthesized CAR-CBA. Polyethyleneimine(PEI) with molecular weight of 25 kDa was adopted as a reference, and polyethylene glycols(PEG) with different molecular weights were used to establish a standard curve for determining the molecular weight of CAR-CBA. The effects of two critical factors, namely columns and eluents,on the molecular weight measurement of CAR-CBA were investigated to optimize the GPC quantitative method. The results showed that Ultrahydrogel columns(120, 250) and HAc–NaAc(0.5 M, pH 4.5) buffer solution were the optimal column and GPC eluent, respectively. The molecular weight of the synthesized CAR-CBA was analyzed by the optimized GPC method and determined to be 24.66 kDa. | Haonan Xing Mei Lu Lei Xian Jinmin Zhang Tianzhi Yang Li Yang Pingtian Ding | 2017 | Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2017,12,3: | 2
HY5-HDA9 orchestrates the transcription of HsfA2 to modulate salt stress response in Arabidopsis显示文摘Integration of light signaling and diverse abiotic stress responses contribute to plant survival in a changing environment. Some reports have indicated that light signals contribute a plant’s ability to deal with heat, cold, and stress. However, the molecular link between light signaling and the saltresponse pathways remains unclear. We demonstrate here that increasing light intensity elevates the salt stress tolerance of plants.Depletion of HY5,a key component of light signaling, causes Arabidopsis thaliana to become salinity sensitive.Interestingly, the small heat shock protein(sHsp)family genes are upregulated in hy5-215 mutant plants, and HsfA 2 is commonly involved in the regulation of these sH sps.We found that HY5directly binds to the G-box motifs in the HsfA2promoter,with the cooperation of HISTONE DEACETYLASE 9(HDA9),to repress its expression.Furthermore, the accumulation of HDA9 and the interaction between HY5 and HDA9 are significantly enhanced by salt stress. On the contrary, high temperature triggers HY5 and HDA9 degradation, which leads to dissociation of HY5-HDA9from the HsfA2 promoter, thereby reducing salt tolerance.Under salt and heat stress conditions, fine tuning of protein accumulation and an interaction between HY5 and HDA9 regulate HsfA2 expression. This implies that HY5,HDA9,and HsfA2play important roles in the integration of light signaling with salt stress and heat shock response. | Jiaheng Yang Xiao Qu Tao Li Yixiang Gao Haonan Du Lanjie Zheng Manchun Ji Paifeng Zhang Yan Zhang Jinxin Hu Liangyu Liu Zefu Lu Zijian Yang Huiyong Zhang Jianping Yang Yongqing Jiao Xu Zheng | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,1: | 1
Establishment of porcine and monkey colonic organoids for drug toxicity study显示文摘Pig and monkey are widely used models for exploration of human diseases and evaluation of drug efficiency and toxicity, but high cost limits their uses.Organoids have been shown to be promising models for drug test as they reasonably preserve tissue structure and functions. However, colonic organoids of pig and monkey are not yet established. Here,we report a culture medium to support the growth of porcine and monkey colonic organoids.Wnt signaling and PGE2 are important for long-term expansion of the organoids, and their withdrawal results in lineage differentiation to mature cells.Furthermore,we observe that porcine colonic organoids are closer to human colonic organoids in terms of drug toxicity response.Successful establishment of porcine and monkey colonic organoids would facilitate the mechanistic investigation of the homeostatic regulation of the intestine of these animals and is useful for drug development and toxicity studies. | Haonan Li Yalong Wang Mengxian Zhang Hong Wang Along Cui Jianguo Zhao Weizhi Ji Ye-Guang Chen | 2021 | Cell Regeneration2021,10,1: | 1

Theoretical and numerical studies of rock breaking mechanism by double disc cutters显示文摘A plane mechanical model of rock breaking process by double disc cutter at the center of the cutterhead is established based on contact mechanics to analyze the stress evolution in the rock broken by cutters with different spacings. A continuous-discontinuous coupling numerical method based on zero-thickness cohesive elements is developed to simulate rock breaking using double cutters. The process, mechanism, and characteristics of rock breaking are comprehensively analyzed from five aspects: peak force, breaking form, breaking efficiency, crack mode, and breaking degree. The results show that under the penetrating action of cutters, dense cores are formed due to shear failure under respective cutters. The tensile cracks propagate in the rock, and then rock chips form with increasing penetration depth. When the cutter spacing is increased from 10 to 80 mm, the peak force gradually increases, the rock breaking range increases first and then decreases, the specific energy decreases first and then rises, and the breaking coefficient of intermediate rock decreases from 0.955 to 0.788. The area of rock breaking is positively correlated with the length of the tensile crack. Furthermore, the length of the tensile crack accounts for 14.4%–33.6% of the total crack length. | Yiqiang Kang Renshu Yang Liyun Yang Chengxiao Li Jun Chen Haonan Zhu Ning Liu | 2023 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2023,33,7: | 1
