1Analysis of infections in the first 3-month after living donor liver transplantation显示文摘AIM:To identify factors related to serious postoperative bacterial and fungal infections in the first 3 mo after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT).METHODS:In the present study,the data of 207 patients from 2004 to 2011 were reviewed.The pre-,intra-and post-operative factors were statistically analyzed.All transplantations were approved by the ethics committee of West China Hospital,Sichuan University.Patients with definitely preoperative infections and infections within 48 h after transplantation were excluded from current study.All potential risk factors were analyzed using univariate analyses.Factors significant at a P < 0.10 in the univariate analyses were involved in the multivariate analyses.The diagnostic accuracy of the identified risk factors was evaluated using receiver operating curve.RESULTS:The serious bacterial and fungal infection rates were 14.01% and 4.35% respectively.Enterococcus faecium was the predominant bacterial pathogen,whereas Candida albicans was the most common fungal pathogen.Lung was the most common infection site for both bacterial and fungal infections.Recipient age older than 45 years,preoperative hyponatremia,intensive care unit stay longer than 9 d,postoperative bile leak and severe hyperglycemia were independent risk factors for postoperative bacterial infection.Massive red blood cells transfusion and postoperative bacterial infection may be related to postoperative fungal infection.CONCLUSION:Predictive risk factors for bacterial and fungal infections were indentified in current study.Pre-,intra-and post-operative factors can cause postoperative bacterial and fungal infections after LDLT.Chuan Li Tian-Fu Wen Kai Mi Chuan Wang Lu-Nan Yan Bo Li 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,16:26
2Neurovascular unit in diabetic retinopathy:pathophysiological roles and potential therapeutical targets显示文摘Diabetic retinopathy(DR),one of the common complications of diabetes,is the leading cause of visual loss in working-age individuals in many industrialized countries.It has been traditionally regarded as a purely microvascular disease in the retina.However,an increasing number of studies have shown that DR is a complex neurovascular disorder that affects not only vascular structure but also neural tissue of the retina.Deterioration of neural retina could precede microvascular abnormalities in the DR,leading to microvascular changes.Furthermore,disruption of interactions among neurons,vascular cells,glia and local immune cells,which collectively form the neurovascular unit,is considered to be associated with the progression of DR early on in the disease.Therefore,it makes sense to develop new therapeutic strategies to prevent or reverse retinal neurodegeneration,neuroinflammation and impaired cell-cell interactions of the neurovascular unit in early stage DR.Here,we present current perspectives on the pathophysiology of DR as a neurovascular disease,especially at the early stage.Potential novel treatments for preventing or reversing neurovascular injuries in DR are discussed as well.Shen Nian Amy C.Y.Lo Yajing Mi Kai Ren Di Yang 2021Eye and Vision2021,8,1:9
3Synergistic therapy of magnetism-responsive hydrogel for soft tissue injuries显示文摘Soft tissue injury is very common and associated with pain,tissue swelling and even malformation if not treated on time.Treating methods include cryotherapy,electrical therapy,ultrasound therapy and anti-inflammatory drug,but none of them is completely satisfying.In this work,for a better therapeutic effect,drug therapy and pulsed electromagnetic field(PEMF)therapy were combined.We constructed a drug delivery system using the tetra-PEG/agar hydrogel(PA).By incorporating Fe3O4 NPs into the hydrogel network,a magnetism-responsive property was achieved in the system.The cytotoxicity and in vivo study showed a good biocompatibility of the PA/Fe3O4 hydrogel.A magnetism-controlled release was attained by the incorporation of Fe3O4.Finally,in vivo study showed a better performance of the DS-loaded PA/Fe3O4 compared with the commercially available DS ointment regarding the recovery of the injured soft tissue.Therefore,this magnetism-responsive hydrogel may represent a promising alternative to treat soft tissue injury.Lining Zhang Xiuqin Zuo Shengjie Li Mi Sun Huimin Xie Kai Zhang Jikun Zhou Liyun Che Junxuan Ma Zishan Jia Fei Yang 2019Bioactive Materials2019,4,1:7

5Observation of tiny polarization rotation rate in total internal reflection via weak measurements显示文摘In this paper,we examine the tiny polarization rotation effect in total internal reflection due to the spin–orbit interaction of light.We find that the tiny polarization rotation rate will induce a geometric phase gradient,which can be regarded as the physical origin of photonic spin Hall effect.We demonstrate that the spin-dependent splitting in position space is related to the polarization rotation in momentum space,while the spin-dependent splitting in momentum space is attributed to the polarization rotation in position space.Furthermore,we introduce a quantum weak measurement to determine the tiny polarization rotation rate.The rotation rate in momentum space is obtained with 118 nm,which manifests itself as a spatial shift,and the rotation rate in position space is achieved with 38 μrad∕λ,which manifests itself as an angular shift.The investigation of the polarization rotation characteristics will provide insights into the photonic spin Hall effect and will enable us to better understand the spin–orbit interaction of light.CHENGQUAN MI SHIZHEN CHEN XINXING ZHOU KAI TIAN HAILU LUO SHUANGCHUN WEN 2017Photonics Research2017,5,2:2

7Elicitor hydrophobin Hyd1 interacts with Ubiquilin1-like to induce maize systemic resistance显示文摘Trichoderma harzianum is a plant-beneficial fungus that secretes small cysteine-rich proteins that induce plant defense responses;however, the molecular mechanism involved in this induction is largely unknown.Here, we report that the class Ⅱ hydrophobin Th Hyd1 acts as an elicitor of induced systemic resistance(ISR) in plants. Immunogold labeling and immunofluorescence revealed Th Hyd1 localized on maize(Zea mays) root cell plasma membranes. To identify host plant protein interactors of Hyd1, we screened a maize B73 root c DNA library. Th Hyd1 interacted directly with ubiquilin1-like(UBL). Furthermore, the N-terminal fragment of UBL was primarily responsible for binding with Hyd1 and the eight-cysteine amino acid of Hyd1 participated in the protein-protein interactions. Hyd1 from T. harzianum(Thhyd1) and ubl from maize were co-expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana, they synergistically promoted plant resistance against Botrytis cinerea. RNA-sequencing analysis of global gene expression in maize leaves 24 h after spraying with Curvularia lunata spore suspension showed that Thhyd1-induced systemic resistance was primarily associated with brassinosteroid signaling, likely mediated through BAK1. Jasmonate/ethylene(JA/ET)signaling was also involved to some extent in this response. 8N-polar InGaN nanowires: breaking the efficiency bottleneck of nano and micro LEDs显示文摘The efficiency of conventional quantum well light-emitting diodes(LEDs) decreases drastically with reducing areal size. Here we show that such a critical size scaling issue of LEDs can be addressed by utilizing N-polar In Ga N nanowires. We studied the epitaxy and performance characteristics of N-polar In Ga N nanowire LEDs grown on sapphire substrate by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. A maximum external quantum efficiency-11% was measured for LEDs with lateral dimensions as small as 750 nm directly on wafer without any packaging. The effect of electron overflow and Auger recombination on the device performance is also studied. 9Using preoperative N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels for predicting major adverse cardiovascular events and myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery in Chinese advanced-age patients显示文摘BACKGROUND N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP)is often viewed as an indicator for heart failure.However,the prognostic association and the predictive utility of NT-proBNP for postoperative major adverse cardiovascular events(MACEs)and myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery(MINS)among older patients are unclear.METHODS In this study,we included 5033 patients aged 65 years or older who underwent noncardiac surgery with preoperative NT-proBNP recorded.Logistic regression was adopted to model the associations between preoperative NT-proBNP and the risk of MACEs and MINS.The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to determine the predictive value of NT-proBNP.RESULTS A total of 5033 patients were enrolled,63 patients(1.25%)and 525 patients(10.43%)had incident postoperative MACEs and MINS,respectively.Analysis of the receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that the cutoff values of ln(NT-proBNP)for MACEs and MINS were 5.16(174 pg/mL)and 5.30(200 pg/mL),respectively.Adding preoperative ln(NT-proBNP)to the Revised Cardiac Risk Index score and the Cardiac and Stroke Risk Model boosted the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves from 0.682 to 0.726 and 0.787 to 0.804,respectively.The inclusion of preoperative NT-proBNP in the prediction models significantly increased the reclassification and discrimination.CONCLUSIONS Increased preoperative NT-proBNP was associated with a higher risk of postoperative MACEs and MINS.The inclusion of NT-proBNP enhances the predictive ability of the preexisting models.Kai ZHANG Chang LIU Jian TAN Yu-Hai XU Jiang-Bei CAO Yan-Hong LIU Qiang FU Jing-Sheng LOU Wei-Dong MI Hao LI 2022Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2022,19,10:1

11Synergistic“Anchor‑Capture”Enabled by Amino and Carboxyl for Constructing Robust Interface of Zn Anode显示文摘While the rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)have been recognized as one of the most viable batteries for scale-up application,the instability on Zn anode–electrolyte interface bottleneck the further development dramatically.Herein,we utilize the amino acid glycine(Gly)as an electrolyte additive to stabilize the Zn anode–electrolyte interface.The unique interfacial chemistry is facilitated by the synergistic“anchor-capture”effect of polar groups in Gly molecule,manifested by simultaneously coupling the amino to anchor on the surface of Zn anode and the carboxyl to capture Zn^(2+)in the local region.As such,this robust anode–electrolyte interface inhibits the disordered migration of Zn^(2+),and effectively suppresses both side reactions and dendrite growth.The reversibility of Zn anode achieves a significant improvement with an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.22%at 1 mA cm^(−2)and 0.5 mAh cm^(−2)over 500 cycles.Even at a high Zn utilization rate(depth of discharge,DODZn)of 68%,a steady cycle life up to 200 h is obtained for ultrathin Zn foils(20μm).The superior rate capability and long-term cycle stability of Zn–MnO_(2)full cells further prove the effectiveness of Gly in stabilizing Zn anode.This work sheds light on additive designing from the specific roles of polar groups for AZIBs.Zhen Luo Yufan Xia Shuang Chen Xingxing Wu Ran Zeng Xuan Zhang Hongge Pan Mi Yan Tingting Shi Kai Tao Ben Bin Xu Yinzhu Jiang 2023Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,11:1

16Optimizing protected areas to boost the conservation of key protected wildlife in China显示文摘To meet the challenge of biodiversity loss and reach the targets of the proposed Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework,the Chinese government updated the list of national key protected wildlife in 2021 and has been continually expanding the protected areas(PAs).However,the status of protected wildlife in PAs remains unclear.In this study,we conducted a national assessment of the status of protected wildlife and suggested an optimization plan to overcome these shortcomings.From 1988 to 2021,the number of protected species almost doubled,and the area of PAs increased by 2.4 times,covering over 92.8%of the protected species.Nonetheless,some protected species have less than 10%of their habitat included in PAs.Despite the significant addition of amphibians and reptiles to the latest protection list,they are the fewest species and are the least covered by PAs compared with birds and mammals.To fix these gaps,we systematically optimized the current PAs network by adding another 10.0%of China’s land area as PAs,which resulted in 37.6%coverage of protected species’habitats in PAs.In addition,26 priority areas were identified.Our research aimed to identify gaps in current conservation policies and suggest optimization solutions to facilitate wildlife conservation planning in China.In general,updating the list of key protected wildlife species and systematically optimizing PA networks are essential and applicable to other countries facing biodiversity loss.Chunrong Mi Kai Song Liang Ma Jiliang Xu Baojun Sun Yuehua Sun Jianguo Liu Weiguo Du 2023The Innovation2023,4,3:1

18Effects of Alpinia oxyphylla on oxidative stress and expression of p47phox in diabetic nephropathy rats显示文摘Objective:To explore whether Yizhi(Alpinia oxyphylla,AO)could treat diabetic nephropathy(DN)through the inhibition of p47phox expression which is related to oxidative stress.Methods:Model of DN was established in SD rats with high glucose and fat diet for 4 weeks after STZ intraperitoneal injection.The rats were randomly divided into blank group,model group,AO group and irbesartan(IRB)group.Drugs were administered for 4 weeks.Blood glucose and 24-hour urinary protein were measured regularly.The index of ROS,SOD,MDA and Nox2 were tested by ELISA and the expression of p47phox protein in renal tissues were tested by techniques of RT-PCR and Western blot.Results:The decrease of blood sugar in AO group and IRB group were not obvious(P>0.05)while the drugs could significantly reduce the amount of protein in urine(P<0.05).AO could decrease ROS,MDA and Nox2 and increase SOD(P<0.05).It also could inhibit the expression of p47phox which was increased in model group(P<0.05).The IRB group has the similar effects compared with AO group(P>0.05).Conclusion:AO could reduce the amount of 24-hour urinary protein in DN rats and the mechanism may be related to the inhibition of p47phox expression thus alleviates excessive oxidative stress response.Xian Wang Chang Liu Mi Li Yiqiang Xie Kai Li 2020TMR Modern Herbal Medicine2020,3,1:0
19InGaN micro-light-emitting diodes monolithically grown on Si:achieving ultra-stable operation through polarization and strain engineering显示文摘Micro or submicron scale light-emitting diodes(μLEDs)have been extensively studied recently as the next-generation display technology.It is desired that μLEDs exhibit high stability and efficiency,submicron pixel size,and potential monolithic integration with Si-based complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS)electronics.Achieving such uLEDs,however,has remained a daunting challenge.The polar nature of Ill-nitrides causes severe wavelength/color instability with varying carrier concentrations in the active region.The etching-induced surface damages and poor material quality of high indium composition InGaN quantum wells(QWs)severely deteriorate the performance of uLEDs,particularly those emitting in the green/red wavelength.Here we report,for the first time,μLEDs grown directly on Si with submicron lateral dimensions.The μLEDs feature ultra-stable,bright green emission with negligible quantum-confined Stark effect(QCSE).Detailed elemental mapping and numerical calculations show that the QCSE is screened by introducing polarization doping in the active region,which consists of InGaN/AlGaN QWs surrounded by an AlGaN/GaN shell with a negative Al composition gradient along the c-axis.In comparison with conventional GaN barriers,AlGaN barriers are shown to effectively compensate for the tensile strain within the active region,which significantly reduces the strain distribution and results in enhanced indium incorporation without compromising the material quality.This study provides new insights and a viable path for the design,fabrication,and integration of high-performance μLEDs on Si for a broad range of applications in on-chip optical communication and emerging augmented reality/mixed reality devices,and so on.Yuanpeng Wu Yixin Xiao Ishtiaque Navid Kai Sun Yakshita Malhotra Ping Wang Ding Wang Yuanxiang Xu Ayush Pandey Maddaka Reddeppa Walter Shin Jiangnan Liu Jungwook Min Zetian Mi 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,10:0
20Absolute bioavailability,dose proportionality,and tissue distribution of rotundic acid in rats based on validated LC-QqQ-MS/MS method显示文摘Rotundic acid(RA),an ursane-type pentacyclic triterpene acid isolated from the dried barks of Ilex rotunda Thunb.(Aquifoliaceae),possesses diverse bioactivities.To further study its pharmacokinetics,a simple and sensitive liquid chromatography with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry(LC-QqQ-MS/MS)method was developed and validated to quantify RA concentration in rat plasma and tissue using etofesalamide as an internal standard(IS).Plasma and tissue samples were subjected to one-step protein precipitation.Chromatographic separation was achieved on a ZORBAX Eclipse XDB-C_(18) column(4.6mm×50mm,5μm)under gradient conditions with eluents of methanol:acetonitrile(1:1,V/V)and 5mM ammonium formate:methanol(9:1,V/V)at 0.5mL/min.Multiple reaction monitoring transitions were performed at m/z 487.30→437.30 for RA and m/z 256.10→227.10 for IS in the negative mode.The developed LC-QqQ-MS/MS method exhibited good linearity(2-500 ng/mL)and was fully validated in accordance with U.S.Food and Drug Administration bioanalytical guidelines.Dose proportionality and bioavailability in rats were determined by comparing pharmacokinetic data after single oral(10,20,and 40mg/kg)and intravenous(10mg/kg)administration of RA.Tissue distribution was studied following oral administration at 20mg/kg.The results showed that the absolute bioavailability of RA after administration at different doses ranged from 16.1%to 19.4%.RA showed good dose proportionality over a dose range of 10-40 mg/kg.RA was rapidly absorbed in a dose-dependent manner and highly distributed in the liver.In conclusion,this study is the first to systematically elucidate the absorption and distribution characteristics of RA in rats,which can provide additional information for further development and evaluation of RA in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic studies.Haihua Shang Xiaohan Dai Mi Li Yueyi Kai Zerong Liu Min Wang Quansheng Li Yuan Gu Changxiao Liu Duanyun Si 2022Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2022,12,2:0
