1Effect of temperature and moisture on soil organic carbon mineralization of predominantly permafrost peatland in the Great Hing'an Mountains,Northeastern China显示文摘Boreal peatlands represent a large global carbon pool.The relationships between carbon mineralization,soil temperature and moisture in the permafrost peatlands of the Great Hing'an Mountains,China,were examined.The CO2 emissions were measured during laboratory incubations of samples from four sites under different temperatures(5,10,15,and 20°C) and moisture contents(0%,30%,60%,100% water holding capacity(WHC) and completely water saturated).Total carbon mineralization ranged from 15.51 to 112.92 mg C under the treatments for all sites.Carbon mineralization rates decreased with soil depth,increased with temperature,and reached the highest at 60% WHC at the same temperature.The calculated temperature coefficient(Q10) values ranged from 1.84 to 2.51 with the soil depths and moisture.However,the values were not significantly affected by soil moisture and depth for all sites due to the different peat properties(P > 0.05).We found that the carbon mineralization could be successfully predicted as a two-compartment function with temperature and moisture(R2 > 0.96) and total carbon mineralization was significantly affected by temperature and moisture(P < 0.05).Thus,temperature and moisture would play important roles in carbon mineralization of permafrost peatlands in the Great Hing'an Mountains,indicating that the permafrost peatlands would be sensitive to the environment change,and the permafrost peatlands would be potentially mineralized under future climate change.Xianwei Wang Xiuzhen Li Yuanman Hu Jiujun Lv Ju Sun Zongmei Li Zhifeng Wu 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,7:26

6Deprivation/Reperfusion-induced Apoptosis by Inhibiting Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and Autophagy in PC12 Cells显示文摘This study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which berberine protects against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury.The oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion(OGD/R)PC12 model was established.Cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)was used to detect the toxicity of berberine and the viability of PC12 cells.Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometry were used to observe the nuclear morphology,and changes of apoptosis and reactive oxygen species(ROS),respectively.Western blotting and immunofluorescence assay were employed to detect autophagy-related proteins[microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3(LC3),P62/SQSTM-1,Beclin-1]and endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress-related markers[glucose-regulated protein 78(GRP78),C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP),Bcl-2-associated X(Bax)and cleaved caspase-3].The GFP-RFP-LC3 adenovirus was used to assay the change of autophagic flux.Our results showed that berberine could increase the viability of PC12 cells,decrease the concentrations of ROS after OGD/R treatment,and suppress OGD/R-induced ER stress and autophagy.Moreover,the results revealed the involvement of the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)pathway in the induction of autophagy,and berberine could activate the phosphorylation of mTOR and thus mitigate autophagy.In conclusion,our study suggested that berberine may protect against OGD/R-induced apoptosis by regulating ER stress and autophagy,and it holds promises in the treatment of cerebral I/R injury.Peng XIE Zhen-kui REN Ju LV Yu-Mei HU Zhi-zhong GUAN Wen-feng YU 2020Current Medical Science2020,40,6:4

8Large piezoelectric response in a family of metal-free perovskite ferroelectric compounds from first-principles calculations显示文摘Metal-free organic perovskite ferroelectric materials have been shown recently to have a number of attractive properties,including high spontaneous polarization and piezoelectric coefficients.In particular,slow evaporation of solutions containing organic amines,inorganic ammoniums,and dilute hydrohalogen acid has been shown to produce several attractive materials in the MDABCO-NH_(4)-I_(3) family(MDABCO is N-methyl-N’-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octonium).In the present work,we study by first-principles calculations the origin of polarizaiton,electronic density of state,piezoelectric response,and elastic properties of MDABCO-NH_(4)-X_(3)(X=Cl,Br,I).We find that the dipole moments of the MDABCO and NH_(4) groups are negligible,and the large spontaneous polarization of MDABCONH_(4)-I_(3) mainly results from MDABCO and NH_(4) being off-center relative to I ions.Although the piezoelectric response of organic materials is usually very weak,we observe large piezoelectric strain components,d_(x4) and d_(x5);the calculated d_(x5) is 119 pC/N for MDABCO-NH_(4)-Cl_(3),248 pC/N for MDABCO-NH_(4)-Br_(3) and 178 pC/N for MDABCO-NH_(4)-I_(3).The large value of dx5 is found to be closely related with the large value of elastic compliance tensor,s44.These results show that MDABCO-NH_(4)-X_(3) metal-free organic perovskites have large piezoelectric response with soft elastic properties.Hui Wang Huihui Liu Zeyu Zhang Zihan Liu Zhenlong Lv Tongwei Li Weiwei Ju Haisheng Li Xiaowu Cai Han Han 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:3

17Trends of Cirrhosis-related Mortality in the USA during the COVID-19 Pandemic显示文摘Immunocompromised status and interrupted routine care may render patients with cirrhosis vulnerable to the coronavi-rus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.A nationwide data-set that includes more than 99%of the decedents in the U.S.between April 2012 and September 2021 was used.Projected age-standardized mortality during the pandemic were esti-mated according to prepandemic mortality rates,stratified by season.Excess deaths were determined by estimating the difference between observed and projected mortality rates.A temporal trend analysis of observed mortality rates was also performed in 0.83 million decedents with cirrhosis between April 2012 and September 2021 was included.Following an increasing trend of cirrhosis-related mortality before the pandemic,with a semiannual percentage change(SAPC)of 0.54%[95%confidence interval(CI):(0.0-1.0%),p=0.036],a precipitous increase with seasonal variation occurred dur-ing the pandemic(SAPC 5.35,95%CI:1.9-8.9,p=0.005).Significantly increased mortality rates were observed in those with alcohol-associated liver disease(ALD),with a SAPC of 8.44(95%CI:4.3-12.8,p=0.001)during the pandemic.All-cause mortality of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease rose stead-ily across the entire study period with a SAPC of 6.79(95%CI:6.3-7.3,p<0.001).The decreasing trend of HCV-related mortality was reversed during the pandemic,while there was no significant change in HBV-related deaths.While there was significant increase in COVID-19-related deaths,more than 55%of the excess deaths were the indirect impact of the pandemic.We observed an alarming increase in cirrhosis-related deaths during the pandemic especially for ALD,with evidence in both direct and indirect impact.Our findings have implications on formulating policies for patients with cirrhosis.Yee Hui Yeo Xinyuan He Fan Lv Yunyu Zhao Yi Liu Ju Dong Yang Jian Zu Fanpu Ji Mindie H.Nguyen 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,3:1
