| 2 | Krüppel-like factors 4 and 5:the yin and yang regulators of cellular proliferation显示文摘Krüppel-like factors (KLFs) are evolutionarily conserved zinc finger-containing transcription factors with diverseregulatory functions in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and embryogenesis. KLF4 and KLF5 are two closelyrelated members of the KLF family that have a similar tissue distribution in embryos and adults. However, the two KLFsoften exhibit opposite effects on regulation of gene transcription, despite binding to similar, if not identical, cis-actingDNA sequences. In addition, KLF4 and 5 exert contrasting effects on cell proliferation in many instances; while KLF4is an inhibitor of cell growth, KLF5 stimulates proliferation. | 3 | Antibacterial activity of lemongrass(Cymbopogon citratus) oil against some selected pathogenic bacterias显示文摘Objective:To find the effectiveness of essential oil of lemongrass for the treatment of pathogenic organisms.Methods:Lemongrass oil was investigated for activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus),Bacillus cereus(B.cereus),Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis),Escherichia coli(E.coli), Klebsiella pneumoniae(K.pneumoniae) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa),using Agar Diffusion Method and Broth Dilution Method.Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC) were determined by the Broth Dilution Method. | 4 | Evaluation of the adsorption potential of titanium dioxide nanoparticles for arsenic removal显示文摘The adsorption potential of titanium dioxide(TiO2) nanoparticles for removing arsenic from drinking water was evaluated.Pure and iron-doped TiO2 particles are synthesized via sol-gel method.The synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles were then immobilized on ordinary sand for adsorption studies.Adsorption isotherms were conducted on the synthesized nanoparticles as well as the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles under varying conditions of air and light,namely,the air-sunlight(A-SL),air-light(AL),air-dark(AD) and nitrogen-dark(ND).X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis showed that the pure and iron-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were in 100% anatase crystalline phase with crystal sizes of 108 and 65 nm,respectively.Adsorption of arsenic on the three adsorbents was non-linear that could be described by the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models.Iron doping enhanced the adsorption capacity of TiO2 nanoparticles by arresting the grain growth and making it visible light responsive resulting in a higher affnity for arsenic.Similarly,the arsenic removal by adsorption on the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles was the highest among the three types of sand used.In all cases,As(V) was adsorbed more compared with As(Ⅲ).The solution pH appeared to be the most important factor in controlling the amount of arsenic adsorbed. | NABI Deedar ASLAM Irfan QAZI Ishtiaq A | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3: | 14 |

The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. | 8 | The role of chemosensory protein 10 in the detection of behaviorally active compounds in brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens显示文摘Chemosensory proteins(CSPs)play important roles in insects’chemoreception,although their specific functional roles have not been fully elucidated.In this study,we conducted the developmental expression patterns and competitive binding assay as well as knock‐down assay by RNA interference both in vitro and in vivo to reveal the function of NlugCSP10 from the brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens(Stål),a major pest in rice plants.The results showed that NlugCSP10 messenger RNA was significantly higher in males than in females and correlated to gender,development and wing forms.The fluorescence binding assays revealed that NlugCSP10 exhibited the highest binding affinity with cis‐3‐hexenyl acetate,eicosane,and(+)‐β‐pinene.Behavioral assay revealed that eicosane displayed attractant activity,while cis‐3‐hexenyl acetate,similar to(+)‐β‐pinene significantly repelled N.lugens adults.Silencing of NlugCSP10,which is responsible for cis‐3‐hexenyl acetate binding,significantly disrupted cis‐3‐hexenyl acetate communication.Overall,findings of the present study showed that NlugCSP10 could selectively interrelate with numerous volatiles emitted from host plants and these ligands could be designated to develop slow‐release mediators that attract/repel N.lugens and subsequently improve the exploration of plans to control this insect pest. | Muhammad Irfan Waris Aneela Younas Muhammad Muzammal Adeel Shuang-Gang Duan Sundas Rana Quershi Rana Muhammad Kaleem Ullah Man-Qun Wang | 2020 | Insect Science2020,27,3: | 9 |

These plants are being used as therapeutic purposes since the birth of mankind. The traditional healers normally utilize medicinal plants as crude drugs while scientists using the folk claim as guides to explore medicinal plants. Moringa oleifera is a famous edible plant having therapeutic and nutritive values. The present study was designed to cumulate the research data regarding to what extent, phytochemical, nutritional and glycemic control studies has been explored using its different extracts. The articles indicated that the powder, aqueous, methanol and ethanol extracts of Moringa oleifera(leaves, pods, seeds, stem and root bark) have significant therapeutic herbal potential to treat diabetes mellitus. Collectively, the mechanism behind is intestinal glucose inhibition, insulin release as well as decrease in insulin resistance probably regeneration of b-cells of pancreas, increase in glutathione and reduction in malondialdehyde. Conclusively, this article give descriptive information about antidiabetic effect, claimed marker compounds and proposed antihyperglycemic mechanism of a single plant. | 10 | Current practice of anticoagulant in the treatment of splanchnic vein thrombosis secondary to acute pancreatitis显示文摘Background:Severe acute pancreatitis is a common diagnosis in emergency general surgery and can be a cause of significant morbidity and mortality.A consequence of severe acute pancreatitis is thrombus in the splanchnic veins.These thrombi can potentially lead to bowel ischemia or hepatic failure.However,another complication of severe acute pancreatitis is retroperitoneal bleeding.At this time,it is unclear if treating patients for splanchnic vein thrombosis in the context of severe acute pancreatitis is associated with any outcome benefit.A systematic review might clarify this question.Data sources:A two-fold search strategy(one broad and one precise)looked at all published literature.The review was registered on PROSPERO(ID:CRD42018102705).MEDLINE,EMBASE,PubMed,Cochrane and Web of Science databases were searched and potentially relevant papers were reviewed indepen-dently by two researchers.Any disagreement was reviewed by a third independent researcher.Primary outcome was reestablishment of flow in the thrombosed vein versus bleeding complications.Results:Of 1462 papers assessed,a total of 16 papers were eligible for inclusion.There were no ran-domized controlled trials,2 were case series,5 retrospective single-center studies and 9 case reports.There were a total of 198 patients in these studies of whom 92(46.5%)received anticoagulation therapy.The rates of recanalization of veins in the treated and non-treated groups was 14%and 11%and bleeding complications were 16%and 5%,respectively.However,the included studies were too heterogeneous to undertake a meta-analysis.Conclusions:The systematic review highlights the lack evidence addressing this clinical question.There-fore a randomized controlled trial would be appropriate to undertake. | William Norton Gabija Lazaraviciute George Ramsay Irene Kreis Irfan Ahmed Mohamed Bekheit | 2020 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2020,19,2: | 8 |
| 11 | Pancreaticoduodenectomy: a comparison of superior approach with classical Whipple's technique显示文摘BACKGROUND: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is the standard procedure for resecting tumors arising from the periampullary area and the pancreatic head. Nevertheless this procedure is inherently difficult and associated with high morbidity and mortality. Besides, the technique applied for exposing the portal and superior mesenteric veins is time-consuming, difficult and associated with the risk of major venous injury. Recently we have introduced a modified approach for making this part of the procedure quick, safe and bloodless, which constitutes the subject of this study. METHODS: Patients who underwent pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) either by superior approach technique (group 1) or by classical Whipple's technique (group 2) were retrospectively identified. Age-sex composition, body mass index (BMI), total operative time, operative blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion requirement, morbidity, mortality and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Between January 1997 and December 2011, 72 patients underwent PPPD by the superior approach technique (group 1) and 38 underwent PPPD by the classical Whipple's technique (group 2) at our institution. Statistically significant differences were observed in operative time (208.1±46.3 minutes in group 1 vs 322.0±33.8 minutes in group 2), operative blood loss (601.0±250.3 mL in group 1 vs 1371.5±471.8 mL in group 2), and intraoperative blood transfusion requirement [10 (13.9%) patients in group 1 and 24 (63.2%) in group 2]. Among 18 (16.4%) obese patients, significant differences in operativetime, operative blood loss and intraoperative blood transfusion requirement were observed between groups 1 and 2. There was no significant inter-group difference in complication rate among obese patients, but comparing obese patients with normal weight patients revealed higher rates of complications like pancreatic fistula (27.8% vs 6.5%), delayed gastric emptying (16.7% vs 5.4%), and infective complications like wound infection and intra abdominal collection (44.4% vs 5.4%). CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of analytical data, we conclude that the superior approach technique is effective for PD compared with the classical Whipple's technique. It allows fast, safe and virtually bloodless dissection for exposure of the superior mesenteric and portal veins during early steps of PD. | 12 | Spontaneous fungal peritonitis: Micro-organisms, management and mortality in liver cirrhosis-A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Spontaneous peritonitis is an infection of ascitic fluid without a known intraabdominal source of infection. spontaneous fungal peritonitis (SFP) is a potentially fatal complication of decompensated cirrhosis, defined as fungal infection of ascitic fluid in the presence of ascitic neutrophil count of greater than 250 cells/mL. AIM To determine the prevalence of fungal pathogens, management and outcomes (mortality) of SFP in critically ill cirrhotic patients. METHODS Studies were identified using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Scopus databases until February 2019. Inclusion criteria included intervention trials and observation studies describing the association between SFP and cirrhosis. The primary outcome was in-hospital, 1-mo, and 6- mo mortality rates of SFP in cirrhotic patients. Secondary outcomes were fungal microorganisms identified and in hospital management by anti-fungal medications. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute quality assessment tools were used to assess internal validity and risk of bias for each included study. RESULTS Six observational studies were included in this systematic review. The overall quality of included studies was good. A meta-analysis of results could not be performed because of differences in reporting of outcomes and heterogeneity of the included studies. There were 82 patients with SFP described across all the included studies. Candida species, predominantly Candida albicans was the fungal pathogen in majority of the cases (48%-81.8%) followed by Candida krusei (15%- 25%) and Candida glabrata (6.66%-20%). Cryptococcus neoformans (53.3%) was the other major fungal pathogen. Antifungal therapy in SFP patients was utilized in 33.3% to 81.8% cases. The prevalence of in hospital mortality ranged from 33.3% to 100%, whereas 1-mo mortality ranged between 50% to 73.3%. | 13 | Out of hospital cardiac arrest resuscitation outcome in North India—CARO study显示文摘BACKGROUND: To evaluate the outcome of cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) in out-ofhospital cardiac arrests(OHCA) in India and factors infl uencing the outcome.METHODS: The outcome and related factors like demographics, aspects of the OHCA event, return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC) and survival to discharge, among the 80 adult patients presenting to emergency department experiencing OHCA considered for resuscitation between January 2014 to April 2015, were analyzed, according to the guidelines of the Utstein consensus conference.RESULTS: The survival rate to hospital admission was 32.5%, the survival rate to hospital discharge was 8.8% and with good cerebral performance category(CPC1) neurological status was 3.8%. Majority of OHCA was seen in elderly individuals between 51 to 60 years, predominately in males. Majority of OHCA were witnessed arrests(56.5%) with 1.3% bystander CPR rate, 92.5% arrests occurred at home, 96% presented with initial non-shockable rhythm and 92.5% with presumed cardiac etiology but survival was better in those who experienced OHCA at public place, in witnessed arrests, in patients who had shockable presenting rhythm and in those where CPR duration was ≤20 minutes.CONCLUSION: Witnessed arrests, early initiation of CPR by bystanders, CPR duration ≤20 minutes, initial presenting shockable rhythm, OHCA with non-cardiac etiology are associated with a good outcome. | 14 | 柞蚕蛹解除滞育过程中海藻糖合成酶基因的表达变化显示文摘【目的】克隆柞蚕Antheraea pernyi海藻糖合成酶(trehalose-6-phosphate synthase,TPS)基因,并对其进行组织表达分析,探讨该基因在柞蚕滞育蛹解除滞育过程中的表达规律,为阐明柞蚕滞育期间碳水化合物代谢规律与蛹滞育解除的关系提供数据支持。【方法】利用PCR及3'RACE技术从柞蚕幼虫脂肪体组织中克隆得到TPS基因,并进行生物信息学分析;RT-PCR检测该基因在柞蚕幼虫各组织中的表达分布,进一步采用Real-time PCR分析柞蚕滞育蛹解除滞育过程中该基因在脂肪体组织和血淋巴中的表达量变化。【结果】克隆获得柞蚕海藻糖合成酶基因并命名为ApTPS。其开放阅读框长2 487 bp,编码828个氨基酸,蛋白预测分子量为93.19 k D,等电点(p I)4.61;无信号肽,无跨膜区。蛋白质亚细胞定位预测该蛋白定位于细胞质中;蛋白质结构域分析表明,ApTPS有两个保守功能区:TPS(第22-497位氨基酸)和TPP(第532-772位氨基酸)。组织特异性分析表明,ApTPS基因在柞蚕幼虫脂肪体中表达量最高;柞蚕解除滞育过程中,ApTPS在脂肪体和血淋巴中的表达量均有所升高,且显著高于对照组(P<0.05),但血淋巴中表达量的升高滞后于脂肪体。【结论】结果提示ApTPS参与了柞蚕蛹滞育中碳水化合物代谢调控并在其中发挥重要作用,与柞蚕蛹滞育解除关系密切。 | 黄伶 孙良振 王勇 汝玉涛 Muhammad IRFAN 姜义仁 石生林 杨瑞生 李喜升 秦利 | 2016 | 昆虫学报2016,59,9: | 7 |

| 19 | Influence of Seed Priming on Performance and Water Productivity of Direct Seeded Rice in Alternating Wetting and Drying显示文摘Direct seeded rice is promising alternative to traditional transplanting, but requires appropriate crop and water management to maintain yield performance and achieve high water productivity. Present study evaluated the effect of seed priming and irrigation on crop establishment, tillering, agronomic traits, paddy yield, grain quality and water productivity of direct seeded rice in alternate wetting and drying(DSR-AWD) in comparison with direct seeded rice at field capacity(DSRFC). Seed priming treatments were osmo-priming with KCl(2.2%), Ca Cl2(2.2%) and moringa leaf extracts(MLE, 3.3%) including hydro-priming as control. Among the treatments, seed osmo-primed with MLE emerged earlier and had higher final emergence, followed by osmo-priming with Ca Cl2. Tillering emergence rate and number of tillers per plant were the highest for seed priming with Ca Cl2 in DSRAWD. Total productive and non-productive tillers, panicle length, biological and grain yields, harvest index were highest for seed priming with MLE or Ca Cl2 in DSR-AWD. Similarly, grain quality, estimated in terms of normal grains, abortive and chalky grains, was also the highest in DSR-AWD with MLE osmo-priming. Benefit cost ratio and water productivity was also the highest in DSR-AWD for seed priming with MLE.
