1Unanswered questions in unsaturated soil mechanics显示文摘The last two to three decades have seen significant advances in the mechanics of unsaturated soils.It is now widely recognized that the fundamental principles in soil mechanics must cover both saturated and unsaturated soils.Nevertheless,there is still a great deal of uncertainties in the geotechnical community about how soil mechanics principles well-established for saturated soils can be extended to unsaturated soils.There is even wide skepticism about the necessity of such extension in engineering practice.This paper discusses some common pitfalls related to the fundamental principles that govern the volume change,shear strength and hydromechanical behaviour of unsaturated soils.It also attempts to address the issue of engineering relevance of unsaturated soil mechanics.SHENG DaiChao ZHANG Sheng YU ZhiWu 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,5:4

3Transportation characteristics of motor vehicle pollutants near Beijing typical expressway显示文摘As a major source of air pollution in urban areas, the motor vehicle exhaust has attracted more and more attention due to its growing amount and serious harm to human health. It is of benefit to the pollutant control to make clear the transportation characteristics of vehicle exhausts. In this paper, the transportation characteristics of vehicle exhaust pollutants are investigated by means of the on-site measurement based on a typical Beijing expressway-Badaling expressway(G6 state expressway). The concentrations of CO, NO_x, SO_2 and particles near the expressway were obtained, by which the variations of the particle number and mass concentrations, as well as the gas pollutant volume concentrations in the vicinity of the roadways with the distance from the expressway were fitted. 13Effect of microlimestone on properties of self-consolidating concrete with manufactured sand and mineral admixture显示文摘Self-consolidating concrete(SCC)with manufactured sand(MSCC)is crucial to guarantee the quality of concrete construction technology and the associated property.The properties of MSCC with different microlimestone powder(MLS)replacements of retreated manufactured sand(TMsand)are investigated in this study.The result indicates that high-performance SCC,made using TMsand(TMSCC),achieved high workability,good mechanical properties,and durability by optimizing MLS content and adding fy ash and silica fume.In particular,the TMSCC with 12%MLS content exhibits the best workability,and the TMSCC with 4%MLS content has the highest strength in the late age,which is even better than that of SCC made with the river sand(R sand).Though MLS content slightly affects the hydration reaction of cement and mainly plays a role in the nucleation process in concrete structures compared to silica fume and fly ash,increasing MLS content can evidently have a significant impact on the early age hydration progress.TMsand with MLS content ranging from 8%to 12%may be a suitable alternative for the Rsand used in the SCC as fine aggregate.The obtained results can be used to promote the application of SCC made with manufactured sand and mineral admixtures for concrete-based infrastructure.Fulin Qu Wengui Li Xiaohui Zeng Zhiyu Luo Kejin Wang Daichao Sheng 2020Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2020,14,6:1

16Frost susceptibility of soils——A confusing concept that can misguide geotechnical design in cold regions显示文摘Frost susceptibility is a concept widely used in cold region geotechnical design, to quantify the capacity of a soil in generating frost heave and frost damage. The laboratory test used to verify frost susceptibility of a soil is based on the measurement of frost heave generated in the soil under specific conditions. In reality this concept is, however, more related to the soil's potential to thaw weakening than to frost heave. Recent experimental studies show that frost non-susceptible soils like clean sand and clean gavel can also generate much ice segregation and frost heave if the conditions are favourable, hence challenging the usefulness and suitability of soil classification based on frost susceptibility. 18Nuclear RIPK1 promotes chromatin remodeling to mediate inflammatory response显示文摘RIPK1 is a master regulator of multiple cell death pathways,including apoptosis and necroptosis,and inflammation.Importantly,activation of RIPK1 has also been shown to promote the transcriptional induction of proinflammatory cytokines in cells undergoing necroptosis,in animal models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)and Alzheimer's disease(AD),and in human ALS and AD.Rare human genetic carriers of non-cleavable RIPK1 variants(D324V and D324H)exhibit distinct symptoms of recurrent fevers and increased transcription of proinflammatory cytokines.Multiple RIPK1 inhibitors have been advanced into human clinical trials as new therapeutics for human inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases,such as ALS and AD.However,it is unclear whether and how RIPK1 kinase activity directly mediates inflammation independent of cell death as the nuclear function of RIPK1 has not yet been explored.Here we show that nuclear RIPK1 is physically associated with the BAF complex.Upon RIPK1 activation,the RIPK1/BAF complex is recruited by specific transcription factors to active enhancers and promoters marked by H3K4me1 and H3K27ac.Activated nuclear RIPK1 mediates the phosphorylation of SMARCC2,a key component of the BAF complex,to promote chromatin remodeling and the transcription of specific proinflammatory genes.Increased nuclear RIPK1 activation and RIPK1/BAF-mediated chromati n-remodeling activity were found in cells expressi ng non-cleavable RIPK1,and in creased enrichment of activated RIPK1 on active enhancers and promoters was found in an animal model and human pathological samples of ALS.Our results suggest that RIPK1 kinase serves as a transcriptional coregulator in nucleus that can transmit extracellular stimuli to the BAF complex to modulate chromatin accessibility and directly regulate the transcription of specific genes involved in mediating inflammatory resp onses.Wanjin Li Bing Shan Chengyu Zou Huibing Wang Meng-Meng Zhang Hong Zhu Masanori Gomi Naito Daichao Xu Vica Jean Manuel Lauren Mifflin Zhaodong Hou John Ravits Junying Yuan 2022Cell Research2022,32,7:1
