1Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography: From methodology to major clinical applications显示文摘Non-invasive Doppler ultrasonographic study of cerebral arteries [transcranial Doppler(TCD)] has been extensively applied on both outpatient and inpatient settings. It is performed placing a low-frequency(≤ 2 MHz) transducer on the scalp of the patient over specific acoustic windows, in order to visualize the intracranial arterial vessels and to evaluate the cerebral blood flow velocity and its alteration in many different conditions. Nowadays the most widespread indication for TCD in outpatient setting is the research of right to left shunting, responsable of so called 'paradoxical embolism', most often due to patency of foramen ovale which is responsable of the majority of cryptogenic strokes occuring in patients younger than 55 years old. TCD also allows to classify the grade of severity of such shunts using the so called 'microembolic signal grading score'. In addition TCD has found many useful applications in neurocritical care practice. It is useful on both adults and children for day-to-day bedside assessment of critical conditions including vasospasm in subarachnoidal haemorrhage(caused by aneurysm rupture or traumatic injury), traumatic brain injury, brain stem death. It is used also to evaluate cerebral hemodynamic changes after stroke. It also allows to investigate cerebral pressure autoregulation and for the clinical evaluation of cerebral autoregulatory reserve.Antonello D'Andrea Marianna Conte Massimo Cavallaro Raffaella Scarafile Lucia Riegler Rosangela Cocchia Enrica Pezzullo Andreina Carbone Francesco Natale Giuseppe Santoro Pio Caso Maria Giovanna Russo Eduardo Bossone Raffaele Calabrò 2016World Journal of Cardiology2016,8,7:10
2CUBE, a Cable-driven Device for Limb Rehabilitation显示文摘In this paper, a novel cable-driven parallel robot, CUBE, is introduced for the assistance of patients in rehabilitation exercising of both upper and lower limbs. The system is characterized by a lightweight structure that is easy to set-up and operate, for both clinical and home usage for both pre-determined and customized exercises, with control over the position of the end-effector while locking its rotation around the horizontal axes. Its cable-driven design makes it inherently safe in human/robot interactions also due to the extremely low inertia. While a novel end-effector design makes the device wearable both on the upper and lower limbs without having to disassemble any part of the structure. The design is presented with its kinematic analysis. Then, the manufacturing through 3D?printing and commercial components of a first prototype is reported. Finally, the system is validated through motion tests along simple trajectories and two different spatial exercises.Daniele Cafolla Matteo Russo Giuseppe Carbone 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,3:6
3Magnetic resonance imaging after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction:A practical guide显示文摘Anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) reconstruction is one of the most common orthopedic procedures performed worldwide. In this regard, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) represents a useful pre-operative tool to confirm a disruption of the ACL and to assess for potential associated injuries. However, MRI is also valuable postoperatively, as it is able to identify, in a non-invasive way, a number of aspects and situations that could suggest potential problems to clinicians. Graft signal and integrity, correct tunnel placement, tunnel widening, and problems with fixation devices or the donor site could all compromise the surgical outcomes and potentially predict the failure of the ACL reconstruction. Furthermore, several anatomical features of the knee could be associated to worst outcomes or higher risk of failure. This review provides a practical guide for the clinician to evaluate the post-surgical ACL through MRI, and to analyze all the parameters and features directly or indirectly related to ACL reconstruction, in order to assess for normal or pathologic conditions.Alberto Grassi James R Bailey Cecilia Signorelli Giuseppe Carbone Andy Tchonang Wakam Gian Andrea Lucidi Stefano Zaffagnini 2016World Journal of Orthopedics2016,7,10:4
4On the Optimal Design of Cable Driven Parallel Robot with a Prescribed Workspace for Upper Limb Rehabilitation Tasks显示文摘This paper deals with an optimization approach to design a cable driven parallel robot intended for upper limb rehabilitation tasks. The cable driven parallel robots have characteristics that make them best candidate for rehabilitation exercise purposes such as large workspace, re-configurable architecture, portability and cost effectiveness. Here, both the cable tensions that are needed to move a wristband as well as the workspace need to be carefully optimized for fulfilling the prescribed operation tasks. A specific case of study is addressed in this work by referring to LA RM wire driven exercising device (LAWEX), which is applied to upper limbs exercises. To that end, a motion capture system is used to collect quantitative data on the prescribed workspace of a human upper limb. A specific optimization problem is settled up for considering combining two optimization goals, namely, the smallest robot size reaching a prescribed workspace and the minimum cable tension distributions. A sequence of optimization steps is defined using Genetic Algorithms (GAs) applied to LAWEX robot. The proposed objective function is based on a mathematical formulation of the power of a point with respect to bounding surfaces in combination with a performance index to show the distributions of the minimum cable tensions.Laribi Med Amine Carbone Giuseppe Zeghloul Said 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,3:3

6Design Considerations for an Underactuated Robotic Finger Mechanism显示文摘A design approach is presented in this paper for underactuation in robotic finger mechanisms. The characters of underactuated finger mechanisms are introduced as based on linkage and spring systems,The feature of self-adaptive enveloping grasp by underactuated finger mechanisms is discussed with feasible in grasping unknown objects. The design problem of robotic fingers is analyzed by looking at many aspects for an optimal functionality. Design problems and requirements for underactuated mechanisms are formulated as related to human-like robotic fingers. In particular, characteristics of finger mechanisms are analyzed and optimality criteria are summarized with the aim to formulate a general design algorithm. A general multi-objective optimization design approach is applied as based on a suitable optimization problem by using suitable expressions of optimality criteria. An example is illustrated as an improvement of finger mechanism in Laboratory of Robotics and Mechatronics (LARM) Hand. Results of design outputs and grasp simulations are reported with the aim to show the practical feasibility of the proposed concepts and computations.YAO Shuangji CECCARELLI Marco ZHAN Qiang CARBONE Giuseppe LU Zhen 2009Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2009,22,4:2

13Experimental Characterization of Operation of a Waist-Trunk System with Parallel Manipulators显示文摘An extensive research activity has been focused on the upper and lower limbs of humanoid robots. However, due to mechanical design difficulties and complex control of multi-body system, the torso of humanoid robot is somehow a neglected or simplified design part. In this paper, operation performance of a new waist-trunk system as torso for humanoid robots is presented through results of lab experimental tests. The proposed waist-trunk system is composed of two 3 DOFs (degrees of freedom) parallel manipulators, which are connected in a serial chain architecture. A prototype is built by using two prototypes of CaPaMan (Cassino Parallel Manipulator), which are convenient stiff architectures with easy-operation characteristics. Experimental tests are carried out with the aims to imitate lateral-bending and transverse-rotation movements of human torso. Operation performances like displacements, accelerations, and actuation torque are measured for a performance evaluation and design characterization of the used manipulator solution imitating human torso. Experimental test results are illustrated and discussed to show the practical operation feasibility of the proposed architecture and the operation characteristics of the built prototype.CECCARELLI Marco CARBONE Giuseppe 2011Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2011,24,5:1

18Force Analysis and Curve Design for Laying Pipe in Loop Laying Head of Wire Rod Mills显示文摘Laying head is a high-precision engineering device in hot-rolled high speed wire rod production line. Previously research works are focused on the laying pipe wear-resisting. Laying pipe curve design method based on wire rod kinematics and dynamics analyses are not reported before. In order to design and manufacture the laying pipe, the motion and force process of the wire rod in the laying pipe should be studied. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to investigate the force modeling for hot-rolled wire rod in laying pipe. An idea of limited element method is used to analysis and calculates the forces between laying pipe inner surface and wire rod. The design requirements of laying pipe curve for manufacturing are discussed. The kinematics and dynamics modeling for numerical calculation are built. A laying pipe curve equation is proposed by discussing design boundary conditions. Numerical results with di erent laying pipe curves design parameters are plotted and compared. The proposed approach performs good result which can be applied for laying pipe curve design and analysis for engineering application.Shuangji Yao Marco Ceccarelli Giuseppe Carbone Bin Ma 2019Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2019,32,2:0
