A complete sequence and comparative analysis of a SARS-associated virus(Isolate BJ01)显示文摘The genome sequence of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)-associated virus provides essential information for the identification of pathogen(s), exploration of etiology and evolution, interpretation of transmission and pathogenesis, development of diagnostics, prevention by future vaccination, and treatment by developing new drugs. We report the complete genome sequence and comparative analysis of an isolate (BJ01) of the coronavirus that has been recognized as a pathogen for SARS. The genome is 29725 nt in size and has 11 ORFs (Open Reading Frames). It is composed of a stable region encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (composed of 2 ORFs) and a variable region representing 4 CDSs (coding sequences) for viral structural genes (the S, E, M, N proteins) and 5 PUPs (putative uncharacterized proteins). Its gene order is identical to that of other known coronaviruses. The sequence alignment with all known RNA viruses places this virus as a member in the family of Coronaviridae. Thirty putative substitutions have been identified by comparative analysis of the 5 SARS- associated virus genome sequences in GenBank. Fifteen of them lead to possible amino acid changes (non-synonymous mutations) in the proteins. Three amino acid changes, with predicted alteration of physical and chemical features, have been detected in the S protein that is postulated to beinvolved in the immunoreactions between the virus and its host. Two amino acid changes have been detected in the Mprotein, which could be related to viral envelope formation. Phylogenetic analysis suggests the possibility of non-human origin of the SARS-associated viruses but provides noevidence that they are man-made. Further efforts should focus on identifying the etiology of the SARS-associated virus and ruling out conclusively the existence of otherpossible SARS-related pathogen(s). | QIN E'de ZHU Qingyu YU Man FAN Baochang CHANG Guohui SI Bingyin YANG Bao PENG Wenming JIANG Tao LIU Bohua DENG Yongqiang LIU Hong ZHANG Yu WANG Cui LI Yuquan GAN Yonghua LI Xiaoyu L Fushuang TAN Gang CAO Wuchun, YANG Ruifu Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology, Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Beijing 100071, China WANG Jian, LI Wei, XU Zuyuan, LI Yan, WU Qingfa, LIN Wei, CHEN Weijun, TANG Lin, DENG Yajun, HAN Yujun, LI Changfeng, LEI Meng, LI Guoqing, LI Wenjie, L Hong, SHI Jianping, TONG Zongzhong, ZHANG Feng, LI Songgang, LIU Bin, LIU Siqi, DONG Wei, WANG Jun, Gane K-S Wong, YU Jun & YANG Huanming* Beijing Genomics Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 101300 National Center for Genome Information, Beijing 101300, China | 2003 | Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,10: | 121

Gravity changes before and after the 2010 Ms7.1 Yushu earthquake显示文摘Absolute and relative gravity observations from 1998-2010 from the China Crustal Movement Observation Network, a major national scientific project, have been used to model the gravity field and its variations associated with the April 14, 2010 Ms7.1 Yushu earthquake. The evolution of the regional gravity field and its relationship with seismicity before and after the Yushu earthquake are studied. The observed gravity changes are closely related to the active Ganzi-Yushu Fault, and gravity measurements can be used to observe the migration of material accompanying active faults and crustal tectonics. The dynamic variation of the gravity field reflects its evolution prior to and during the Yushu earthquake. The gravity measurements near its epicenter are as large as 80×10^(-8) m/s^2, and they show wave-like increases with time prior to the Yushu earthquake. | Zhu Yiqing Liu fang Cao Jianping Zhao Yunfeng | 2012 | Geodesy and Geodynamics2012,3,4: | 7
A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 9 | A Facial Expression Emotion Recognition Based Human-robot Interaction System显示文摘A facial expression emotion recognition based human-robot interaction(FEER-HRI) system is proposed, for which a four-layer system framework is designed. The FEERHRI system enables the robots not only to recognize human emotions, but also to generate facial expression for adapting to human emotions. A facial emotion recognition method based on2D-Gabor, uniform local binary pattern(LBP) operator, and multiclass extreme learning machine(ELM) classifier is presented, which is applied to real-time facial expression recognition for robots. Facial expressions of robots are represented by simple cartoon symbols and displayed by a LED screen equipped in the robots, which can be easily understood by human. Four scenarios,i.e., guiding, entertainment, home service and scene simulation are performed in the human-robot interaction experiment, in which smooth communication is realized by facial expression recognition of humans and facial expression generation of robots within 2 seconds. As a few prospective applications, the FEERHRI system can be applied in home service, smart home, safe driving, and so on. | Zhentao Liu Min Wu Weihua Cao Luefeng Chen Jianping Xu Ri Zhang Mengtian Zhou Junwei Mao | 2017 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2017,4,4: | 5
The Identification of the Cryptosporidium ubiquitum in Pre-weaned Ovines from Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in China显示文摘Objective Cryptosporidium spp.are prevalent globally and sheep are an important zoonotic reservoir.Little data regarding the rates of Cryptosporidium infections in ovines in China are available. This study assessed the prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp.in pre‐weaned ovines from Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in the Sichuan province of China. Methods A total of 213 fecal samples were collected from pre‐weaned ovines and were examined microscopically (following modified acid fast staining). In addition,18S rRNA genetic sequences were amplified from fecal samples by nested PCR and phylogenetically analyzed. Results The prevalence of Cryptosporidium in the collected samples was at 14.6% (31/213) and four isolates identified by PCR belonged to the Cryptosporidium cervine genotype (Cryptosporidium ubiquitum) demonstrating that this species was the primary sheep species found in sheep in China. Conclusion The present study suggested that the high incidence of Cryptosporidium in sheep poses a significant public health threat and that surveillance practices must be established to prevent zoonotic disease of humans. | SHEN YuJuan YIN JianHai YUAN ZhongYing LU WeiYuan XU YuXin XIAO LiHua CAO JianPing | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,3: | 5
Contrasting patterns of river runoff and sea-ice melted water in the Canada Basin显示文摘The fractions of river runoff and sea-ice melted water in the Canada Basin in summer 2003 were determined by the salinity-18O system. The fraction of river runoff(fR) was high in the upper 50 m of the water column and decreased with depth and latitude. The signals of the river runoff were confined to water depths above 200 m. The total amount of river runoff in the Canada Basin was higher than that in other arctic seas, indicating that the Canada Basin is a main storage region for river runoff. The penetration depth of the sea-ice melted water was less than 50 m to the south of 78°N, while it was about 150 m to the north of 78°N. The total amount of sea-ice melted water was much higher to the north of 78°N than to the south of 78°N, indicating the sea-ice melted waters accumulated on the ice edge. The abundant sea-ice melted water on the ice edge was attributed to the earlier melted water in the southern Canada Basin and transported by the Beaufort Gyre or the reinforced melting of sea ice by solar radiation in the polynya. | TONG Jinlu CHEN Min QIU Yusheng LI Yanping CAO Jianping | 2014 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,6: | 4
Influence of particle composition on thorium scavenging in the marginal China seas显示文摘Thorium-234 and particle composition (organic matter, biogenic silica, carbonate and lithogenic component) were examined in the East China Sea (ECS) and the northern South China Sea (NSCS) in order to constrain the particle types scavenging thorium isotopes. Good positive correlations be-tween particulate organic matter (POM) or carbonate and thorium-234 in suspended particulate matter (SPM) indicates that POM and carbonate are efficient to scavenge thorium-234. No relation-ship between biogenic silica and thorium-234 suggests that geochemical behavior of thorium-234 may be not influenced by biogenic silica. A simple model was used to evaluate the affinity of thorium-234 to different particle components. The results show that POM is the most efficient scavenger for thorium-234 in the ECS and the NSCS, followed by carbonate. The authors’ re-sults lend support to the utility of thorium-234 as a proxy of POC and carbonate in the upper layer. However, the strong dependence of thorium scavenging on particle composition challenges thorium-230 as a constant flux proxy. | YANG Weifeng CHEN Min CAO Jianping QIU Yusheng ZHANG Run MA Qiang TONG Jinlu YANG Junhong YANG Zhi LUE E | 2009 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2009,28,2: | 4
A proof of concept for neutralizing antibody-guided vaccine design against SARS-CoV-2显示文摘Mutations and transient conformational movements of the receptor binding domain(RBD)that make neutralizing epitopes momentarily unavailable present immune escape routes for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).To mitigate viral escape,we developed a cocktail of neutralizing antibodies(NAbs)targeting epitopes located on different domains of spike(S)protein.Screening of a library of monoclonal antibodies generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of COVID-19 convalescent patients yielded potent NAbs,targeting the N-terminal domain(NTD)and RBD domain of S,effective at n M concentrations.Remarkably,a combination of RBD-targeting NAbs and NTD-binding NAbs,FC05,enhanced the neutralization potency in cell-based assays and an animal model. Results of competitive surface plasmon resonance assays and cryo-electron microscopy(cryo-EM)structures of antigen-binding fragments bound to S unveil determinants of immunogenicity.Combinations of immunogens, identified in the NTD and RBD of S,when immunized in rabbits and macaques, elicited potent protective immune responses against SARS-CoV-2.More importantly, two immunizations of this combination of NTD and RBD immunogens provided complete protection in macaques against a SARS-CoV-2 challenge, without observable antibody-dependent enhancement of infection. These results provide a proof of concept for neutralization-based immunogen design targeting SARS-CoV-2 NTD and RBD. | Li Zhang Lei Cao Xing-Su Gao Bin-Yang Zheng Yong-Qiang Deng Jing-Xin Li Rui Feng Qian Bian Xi-Ling Guo Nan Wang Hong-Ying Qiu Lei Wang Zhen Cui Qing Ye Geng Chen Kui-Kui Lu Yin Chen Yu-Tao Chen Hong-Xing Pan Jiaping Yu Wenrong Yao Bao-Li Zhu Jianping Chen Yong Liu Cheng-Feng Qin Xiangxi Wang Feng-Cai Zhu | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,8: | 4
Prediction and systematic study of protein-protein interaction networks of Leptospira interrogans显示文摘Leptospira interrogans serovar Lai is a pathogenic bacterium that causes a spirochetal zoonosis in humans and some animals. With its complete genome sequence available, it is possible to analyze protein-protein interactions from a whole- genome standpoint. Here we combine four recently developed computational approaches (gene fusion method, gene neighbor method, phylogenetic profiles method, and operon method) to predict protein-pro- tein interaction networks of Leptospira interrogans strain Lai. Through comprehensive analysis on in- teractions among proteins of motility and chemotaxis system, signal transduction, lipopolysaccaride bio- synthesis and a series of proteins related to adhesion and invasion, we provided information for further studying on its pathogenic mechanism. In addition, we also assigned 203 previously uncharacterized proteins with possible functions based on the known functions of its interacting partners. | 15 | Cupping therapy for acute and chronic pain management:a systematic review of randomized clinical trials显示文摘Objective:Cupping as a traditional therapy is used to treat a myriad of health conditions, including pain. This systematic review assessed the effectiveness and safety of cupping for different types of pain. Methods:Thirteen databases and four trial registries were searched for randomized clinical trials.Meta-analysis of data was conducted if there was non-significant clinical and statistical heterogeneity(measured by I2 test)among trials. Results:Sixteen trials with 921 participants were eligible and included.Six trials were assessed as low risk of bias, another six trials were of unclear risk of bias, and the remaining four trials were of high risk of bias.Pain was related to three acute and seven chronic diseases.Metaanalysis showed a beneficial effect of cupping compared to wait-list control(visual analogue scale(VAS),MD1.85 cm,95%CI2.66 to1.04)and heat therapy(numerical rating scale,MD2.05 cm,95%CI2.93 to1.17).Cupping combined with acupuncture was superior to acupuncture alone on post-treatment pain intensity(VAS,MD1.18 cm,95%CI1.68 to0.68),however,no difference was found between this comparison based on changes in pain intensity(difference of VAS,MD 0.16 cm,95%CI0.54 to 0.87).Results from other single studies showed significant benefit of cupping compared with conventional drugs or usual care.Hematoma and pain at the treated site, increasing local pain or tingling were reported as mild adverse effects of cupping. Conclusion:This review suggests a potential positive short-term effect of cupping therapy on reducing pain intensity compared with no treatment, heat therapy, usual care,or conventional drugs. | Huijuan Cao Xun Li Xue Yan Nissi S.Wang Alan Bensoussan Jianping Liu | 2014 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2014,1,1: | 3
Electrospinning Janus Type CoO_(x)/C Nanofibers as Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction显示文摘Nanofibers with unique structures and multiple components have attracted more and more attention, which could combine multi-functions in one entity.Janus-type biphasic nanofibers with unique structure can be quickly obtained by electrospinning technology. We produced CoO_(x)/C nanofibers with Janus structure by self-made side-by-side electrospinning spinneret, combined with electrospinning technology and heat treatment.CoO_(x)/C nanofibers had a large amount of graphitic carbon distributed on one half of the Janus nanofiber, and CoO_(x)/C nanoparticles were embedded in the other half of the Janus nanofiber and distributed uniformly.CoO_(x)/C acted as ORR catalysis, and graphitic carbon,pridinc-N and CoO_(x) in CoO_(x)/C had a synergistic effect on their catalytic activity. The results confirmed that CoO_(x)/C was dominated by four-electron pathway under alkaline conditions, and the Tafel slope was lower than that of commercial Pt/C catalysts. The preparation method of this work is simple and easy, the structure is controllable, and the composition is adjustable, which provides a feasible way for preparing Janus structure nanofibers with different functions. | Xueyuan Cao Jianping Deng Kai Pan | 2020 | Advanced Fiber Materials2020,2,2: | 3
An overview of systematic reviews of clinical evidence for cupping therapy显示文摘Background:As a traditional treatment method, cupping therapy is widely used in Asian countries. This overview of systematic reviews (SRs) investigated the effectiveness and safety of cupping therapy through an evidence-based approach. Methods:SRs that assessed the effectiveness of cupping therapy for any type of disease were searched through 6 electronic databases.Target diseases, cupping methods, numbers and types of included studies, quality of included trials, main results (including meta-analysis re sults),and authors' conclusions of SRs were extracted. The Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews measurement was used to evaluate methodologic quality of the SRs.Results Eight SRs met the inclusion criteria and effectiveness and safety of cupping therapy for 11 diseases were assessed. All included SRs were of good methodologic quality. However, quality of trials included in the SRs was generally poor.Meta-analysis was performed in 4 studies. Results:showed cupping therapy (alone or combined with other interventions) was better than medications (or other interventions alone) for herpes zoster, acne, facial paralysis, low back pain,or cervical spondylosis. One review reported adverse events, including hematoma, increased pain and tingling following cupping treatment. Conclusions:Cupping therapy may be beneficial for pain-related conditions, acne, and facial paralysis. However,a firm conclusion could not be drawn due to the insufficient number of included reviews and the low quality of the original studies. | Huijuan Cao Mei Han Xiaoshu Zhu Jianping Liu | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2015,2,1: | 3
Variation of freshwater components in the Canada Basin during 1967–2010显示文摘As a conservative tracer, oxygen isotopes in seawater are widely used for water mass analysis, along with temperature and salinity. In this study, seawater oxygen-18 datasets in the Canada Basin during 1967–2010 were obtained from the four cruises of the Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition(1999, 2003, 2008, and 2010) and the NASA database. Fractions of sea ice meltwater and river runoff were determined from the salinity-18O system. Our results showed that the river runoff decreased from the south to the north in the Canada Basin. The enhanced amount of river runoff observed in the southern Canada Basin may originate from the Mackenzie River, transported by the Beaufort Gyre. The river runoff component showed maximum fractions during 1967–1969, 1978–1979, 1984–1985, 1993–1994, and 2008–2010, indicating the refresh time of the river runoff was 5.0–16.0 a in the Canada Basin. The temporal variation of the river runoff was related to the change of the Arctic Oscillation(AO) index, suggesting the freshwater stored in the Canada Basin was affected by surface sea ice drift and water mass movement driven by atmospheric circulation. | PAN Hong CHEN Min TONG Jinlu QIU Yusheng ZHENG Minfang CAO Jianping | 2014 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,6: | 3

Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine plus narrow-band medium-wave ultraviolet B radiation on moderate-to-severe psoriasis vulgaris in a case series显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy combined with ultraviolet B light therapy in the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis. METHODS: Patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis (skin lesion area > 10% of the body surface area) for 2 consecutive years were treated with TCM (oral and external use of herbal medicines, acupuncture, and herbal bathing) and narrow-band medium-wave ultraviolet B light treatment for 12 weeks. The treatment effect was evaluated based on the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI), the achievement of a 50% reduction in the PASI (PASI50), the achievement of a 75% reduction in the PASI (PASI75), pruritus score, Dermatology Life Quality Index, and safety. RESULTS: A total of 95 outpatients were enrolled, and 92 subjects (96.8%) completed the 12-week treatment course. At baseline, the average proportion of the body surface area covered by skin lesions was 12.4%, and the average PASI was 17.7. All patients had previously been treated with conventional medicine (89.1% of patients received ultraviolet light treatment, 50.0% received glucocorticoids, and 21.7% received acitretin). After the 12-week treatment course, 22 patients (23.9%) achieved PASI75, and 43 (46.7%) achieved PASI50. The post-treatment pruritus score and Dermatology Life Quality Index of all treated patients were significantly lower than the respective baseline values (P < 0.0001). No adverse effects were detected by the monitoring of blood, urine, stools, liver and kidney function, and echocardiography.CONCLUSION: Comprehensive therapy comprising TCM therapy combined with ultraviolet B light therapy achieved good outcomes for patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis. | Li Tiantian Zhou Dongmei Xu Xuying Qu Jianhua Jiang Chunyan Lan Haibing Lou Weihai Chen Weiwen Jin Li Liu Rongqi Liu Zhiyong Zhang Cang Duan Lanhua Bohua Li Xu Jingna Zhou Tao Jiang Xi Cao Wei Zhang Guangzhong Liu Jianping Sun Liyun Wang Ping | 2019 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2019,39,5: | 2
