| 3 | Source rupture process of Lushan M_S7.0 earthquake, Sichuan,China and its tectonic implications显示文摘The source rupture process of the MS7.0 Lushan earthquake was here evaluated using 40 long-period P waveforms with even azimuth coverage of stations.Results reveal that the rupture process of the Lushan MS7.0 event to be simpler than that of the Wenchuan earthquake and also showed significant differences between the two rupture processes.The whole rupture process lasted 36 s and most of the moment was released within the first 13 s.The total released moment is 1.9×1019N m with MW=6.8.Rupture propagated upwards and bilaterally to both sides from the initial point,resulting in a large slip region of 40 km×30 km,with the maximum slip of 1.8 m,located above the initial point.No surface displacement was estimated around the epicenter,but displacement was observed about 20 km NE and SW directions of the epicenter.Both showed slips of less than 40 cm.The rupture suddenly stopped at 20 km NE of the initial point.This was consistent with the aftershock activity.This phenomenon indicates the existence of significant variation of the medium or tectonic structure,which may prevent the propagation of the rupture and aftershock activity.The earthquake risk of the left segment of Qianshan fault is worthy of attention. | ZHAO CuiPing ZHOU LianQing CHEN ZhangLi | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,28: | 13 |
| 4 | Rupture process of the Wenchuan M8.0 earthquake of Sichuan, China: the segmentation feature显示文摘Moment tensor solution, rupture process and rupture characteristics of the great Wenchuan M8.0 earthquake are studied by using 39 long-period P and SH waveforms with evenly azimuth coverage of stations. Our results reveal that the Wenchuan M8.0 event consisted of 5 sub-events of Mw≥7.3 occurring succesively in time and space. Rupture started with a Mw7.3 introductory strike-slip faulting in the first 12 s, then within 12?40 s, two sub-events with Mw7.6 and Mw7.4 occurred within 80 km northeast from the initial point with the dominant rupture type of thrust moving. From 40 to 62 s, a Mw7.5 and Mw7.4 right-lateral strike-slip type of sub-events occurred on the two sides of Beichuan, 120 km away northeast from the initial point. The whole rupture process lasted 105 s and unilaterally propagated from the initial point on the WS section of the Yingxiu-Beichuan fault to the NE direction, resulting in a 230-km-long surface rupture zone and the average surface dislocation is up to 4 m. Two asperities are identified and the whole rupture process is formed by WS and NE parts. In the WS part named Dujiangyang-Wenchuan, where the initial point is located, the rupture process showed reverse faulting with the maximum slip of 8.2 m. Around Mianzhu, rupture changed to right-lateral strike slip faulting and formed a Beichuan-Qingchuan large slip area. The rupture area on this part is about 10 km in depth, shallower than on the WS part. The maximum slip is 6.53 m. Consequently, there formed 2 segments with the surface dislocation larger than 6 m. One is the Dujiangyan-Wenchuan segment with the maximum surface displacement of 6.44 m, the other is the Beichuan-Qingchuan segment with the maximum surface displacement of 6.53 m. | 8 | Study on the Source Parameters of Earthquakes in the Middle Eastern Area of North Tianshan in Xinjiang显示文摘By applying the empirical Green’s function method, we first proved that the source spectra in the middle eastern area of North Tianshan follow the ω -2 Brune model, and then, on this basis, obtained the source spectra for 105 earthquakes of ML 2.5~5.7 in the studied area upon removing the noise, instrument, propagation and site effects in the observational seismic S waveforms. Finally, we determined the source parameters such as the seismic moment, stress drop, source dimension, etc., based on the Brune model. The results show that there is a good linear correlation between scalar seismic moment, M0, and ML, which is Log 10 M0=1.10 ML + 17.20; The source radii range between 100~1500m; the stress drop, 1~16MPa with a predominant range of 1~10MPa. | 13 | Machine learning-based automatic construction of earthquake catalog for reservoir areas in multiple river basins of Guizhou province,China显示文摘Large reservoirs have the risk of reservoir induced seismicity.Accurately detecting and locating microseismic events are crucial when studying reservoir earthquakes.Automatic earthquake monitoring in reservoir areas is one of the effective measures for earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation.In this study,we first applied the automatic location workflow(named LOCFLOW)to process 14-day continuous waveform data from several reservoir areas in different river basins of Guizhou province.Compared with the manual seismic catalog,the recall rate of seismic event detection using the workflow was 83.9%.Of the detected earthquakes,88.9%had an onset time difference below 1 s,81.8%has a deviation in epicenter location within 5 km,and 77.8%had a focal depth difference of less than 5 km,indicating that the workflow has good generalization capacity in reservoir areas.We further applied the workflow to retrospectively process continuous waveform data recorded from 2020 to the first half of 2021 in reservoir areas in multiple river basins of western Guizhou province and identified five times the number of seismic events obtained through manual processing.Compared with manual processing of seismic catalog,the completeness magnitude had decreased from 1.3 to 0.8,and a b-value of 1.25 was calculated for seismicity in western Guizhou province,consistent with the b-values obtained for the reservoir area in previous studies.Our results show that seismicity levels were relatively low around large reservoirs that were impounded over 15 years ago,and there is no significant correlation between the seismicity in these areas and reservoir impoundment.Seismicity patterns were notably different around two large reservoirs that were only impounded about 12 years ago,which may be explained by differences in reservoir storage capacity,the geologic and tectonic settings,hydrogeological characteristics,and active fault the reservoir areas.Prominent seismicity persisted around two large reservoirs that have been impounded for less than 10 years.These events were clustered and had relatively shallow focal depths.The impoundment of the Jiayan Reservoir had not officially begun during this study period,but earthquake location results suggested a high seismicity level in this reservoir area.Therefore,any seismicity in this reservoir area after the official impoundment deserves special attention. | Longfei Duan Cuiping Zhao Xingzhong Du Lianqing Zhou | 2023 | Earthquake Science2023,36,2: | 1 |

| 18 | Rationalizing the isolation distance needed for field trials involving genetically modified rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) in China显示文摘The isolation distance required for field trials of genetically modified (GM) rapeseed varies widely worldwide, with a 50-400 m distance in most nations contrasting with a minimum 1000-m isolation distance in China. The goal of this study was to evaluate the relevance of current regulations in China regarding the isolation distance needed for GM rapeseed trials. A pollen flow experiment was conducted based on the design of concentric circles, with the GM plants in a 20-m diameter circle at the centre, surrounded by non-GM plants to a distance 60 m from the perimeter of the circle containing GM plants. The rate of pollen flow was the highest at the isolation distance of 0.5 m, where it ranged from 2.3091% to 2.6711%. The general pattern of the pollen flow rate (y) with distance (x) was well described by the equation y = 1.3936x-0.9136 (R 2 = 0.9950). The long-distance pollen flow tested at the isolation distance of 800 m was 0.0018%, which agrees with the theoretical prediction.
