| 1 | Genome analysis of Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin provides new insights into rubber biosynthesis显示文摘The Russian dandelion Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin(TKS), a member of the Composite family and a potential alternative source of natural rubber(NR) and inulin, is an ideal model system for studying rubber biosynthesis. Here we present the draft genome of TKS, the first assembled NR-producing weed plant. The draft TKS genome assembly has a length of 1.29 Gb, containing 46 731 predicted protein-coding genes and68.56% repeats, in which the LTR-RT elements predominantly contribute to the genome enlargement. We analyzed the heterozygous regions/genes, suggesting its possible involvement in inbreeding depression.Through comparative studies between rubber-producing and non-rubber-producing plants, we found that enzymes of the mevalonate(MVA) pathway and rubber elongation might be critical for rubber biosynthesis, and several key isoforms have been isolated and shown to be predominantly expressed in the latex, indicating their crucial functions in rubber biosynthesis. Moreover, for two important families in rubber elongation, the CPT/CPTL and REF/SRPP families, diverse evolutionary tracks have been revealed. | 5 | Two new Jurassic stoneflies (Insecta: Plecoptera) from Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘Two new genera and two new species of family Taeniopterygidae, Mengitaenioptera multiramis gen. et sp. nov. and Noviramonemoura trinervis gen. et sp. nov. are described. These fossils were collected from Daohugou Village (the Middle Jurassic), Inner Mongolia, China. Hitherto, these fossil species from Daohugou are the oldest taeniopterygids. Both simple and complex venations simultaneously occurred in this group, which reveals that the early diversification of taeniopterids was well underway by the Middle Jurassic. Therefore, we prefer to adopt the Comstock's opinion that the venation of taeniopterids was derived from the simple venation of the older group (such as Palaeonemouridae) at much ancient geological time ago. | 6 | Confining effect of oxide film on tin whisker growth显示文摘Spontaneous tin whisker growth has been mysterious and catastrophic for more than half century. The difficulty in the research on this topic consists of the randomness of the whisker growth, the slow growth rate and many other tricky factors. Herein, with Ti2SnC-Sn as a new platform, fast tin whisker growth is realized to facilitate the research. The whisker morphology is found to be modulated by oxide film. A striated whisker morphology forms as growing in air, whereas a faceted morphology forms in vacuum.Furthermore, the evolution to the faceted morphology is attributed to the reconstruction of the whisker surface driven by surface energy reduction. | 7 | Negative Temperature Coefficient of Resistivity in Bulk Nanostructured Ag显示文摘The change of the temperature coefficient of resistivity (α) with the particle size, dp., and the grain size, dc, in the nanostructured Ag bulk samples was investigated. dp and d. were controlled by heating the nano-Ag powders over the temperature range from 393 to 453 K. The electrical resistance measurements of the nanostructured Ag bulk samples obtained by compacting the Ag powders after heat treatments showed a change in the sign of α with dp. and dc. When dp and dc are smaller or equal to 18 and 11 nm below room temperature or 20 and 12 nm above room temperature, respectively, the sign of the temperature coefficient of resistivity changes from positive to negative. | 8 | Spontaneous Ga whisker formation on FeGa_3显示文摘FeGa_3 has attracted considerable attention as potential material for many fields, whereas the whiskering phenomenon may cast doubts on its applications. Spontaneous Ga whisker formation was observed on the ballmilled FeGa_3-Ga. The sample made from ball-milled FeGa_3 powders free of elemental Ga are immune to the Ga whisker formation, even if all the processing parameters were the same as the FeGa_3-Ga composite sample. In addition, several nano-sized Ga whiskers were found on the pressed FeGa_3-Ga composite without ball milling,and the as-synthesized FeGa_3-Ga grew only tiny Ga balls on the surface. | 9 | Mechanism and mitigation of spontaneous Ga whisker growth on Cr2GaC显示文摘Spontaneous growth of A-element whiskers on Mn+1AXn(MAX for short) phase materials poses a barrier to their practical applications, since it casts doubts on their stability. In this study, Ga whisker growth on sintered Cr2GaC samples was investigated. The elemental source for spontaneous growth of Ga whiskers is identified as the free Ga contained in the Cr2GaC material, not the lattice atoms from Cr2GaC grains, which removes the doubts on the stability of Cr2GaC material. The growth behavior and morphologies of the Ga whiskers follow a new catalysis-based model, with cleavage planes of Cr2GaC grains involved as nucleation sites. This model explains and predicts well the growth behavior of the whiskers. | 10 | Free-standing hybrid films comprising of ultra-dispersed titania nanocrystals and hierarchical conductive network for excellent high rate performance of lithium storage显示文摘The construction of advanced electrode materials is key to the field of energy storage.Herein,a free-standing anatase titania(TiO_(2))nanocrystal/carbon nanotube(CNT)film is reported using a simple and scalable sol-gel method,followed by calcination.This unique free-standing film comprises ultra-small TiO_(2) nanocrystals(~5.9 nm)and super-aligned CNTs,with ultra-dispersed TiO_(2) nanocrystals on the surfaces of the CNTs.On the one hand,these TiO_(2) nanocrystals can significantly decrease the diffusion distance of the charges and on the other hand,the cross-linked CNTs can act as a three-dimensional(3D)conductive network,allowing the fast transport of electrons.In addition,the film is free-standing,without requiring electrode fabrication and additional conductive agents and binders.Owing to these above synergistic effects,the film is directly used as an anode in Li-ion batteries,and delivers a high discharge capacity of~105 mAh·g^(−1) at high rate of 60 C(1 C=170 mA·g^(−1))and excellent cycling performance over 2,500 cycles at 30 C.These results indicate that the free-standing anatase TiO_(2) nanocrystal/CNT film affords a superior performance among the various TiO_(2) materials and can be a promising anode material for fast-charging Li-ion batteries.Moreover,the TiO_(2)/CNT film exhibits an areal capacity of up to 2.4 mAh·cm^(−2),confirming the possibility of its practical use. | Kunlei Zhu Chenyu Li Yushuang Jiao Jiawen Zhu Hongtao Ren Yufeng Luo Shoushan Fan Kai Liu | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,7: | 1 |

| 14 | Tin whisker growth from titanium-tin intermetallic and the mechanism显示文摘Spontaneous growth of metal whiskers, represented by tin whiskers, has haunted tin-based platings and solder joints for decades and caused huge losses to the electronics industry. Despite numerous efforts, the underlying growth mechanism has been resisting interpretation, and the whiskering phenomenon even continues to expand its territory. Here, we report the growth of tin whiskers from a Ti6Sn5intermetallic.These tin whiskers share similar characteristics with those found on the platings or solder joints, but grow more and faster, with finer diameters. After tin whisker growth, Ti6Sn5retains its crystal structure,implying a dealloying process. Combining experimental and first-principles calculation results, we analyzed the growth mechanism of tin whiskers in detail, and proposed a diffusion-based growth model.The strain energy stored in Ti6Sn5during deformation provides a driving force for whisker growth, and the short-circuit diffusion paths generated by such deformation accelerate whisker growth. These findings identify the critical role of intermetallic substrate in the whiskering phenomenon, shedding new light for comprehensively understanding the whisker growth mechanisms.
