1Suppression or knockout of SaF/SaM overcomes the Sa-mediated hybrid male sterility in rice显示文摘Hybrids between the indica and japonica subspecies of rice(Oryza sativa) are usually sterile, which hinders utilization of heterosis in the inter-subspecific hybrid breeding. The complex locus Sa comprises two adjacently located genes, SaF and SaM, which interact to cause abortion of pollen grains carrying the japonica allele in japonica-indica hybrids. Here we showed that silencing of SaF or SaM by RNA interference restored male fertility in indica-japonica hybrids with heterozygous Sa. We further used clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/Cas9-based genome editing to knockout the SaF and SaM alleles, respectively, of an indica rice line to create hybrid-compatible lines. The resultant artificial neutral alleles did not affect pollen viability and other agricultural traits, but did break down the reproductive barrier in the hybrids. We found that some rice lines have natural neutral allele Sa-n, which was compatible with the typical japonica or indica Sa alleles in hybrids. Our results demonstrate that SaF and SaM are required for hybrid male sterility, but are not essential for pollen development. 2Sap flow characteristics and physiological adjustments of two dominant tree species in pure and mixed plantations in the semi-arid Loess Plateau of China显示文摘It is essential to understand the water consumption characteristics and physiological adjustments of tree species under drought conditions,as well as the effects of pure and mixed plantations on these characteristics in semi-arid regions.In this study,the normalized sap flow(SF_n),leaf water potential,stomatal conductance(g_s),and photosynthetic rate(P_r)were monitored for two dominant species,i.e.,Pinus tabuliformis and Hippophae rhamnoides,in both pure and mixed plantations in a semi-arid region of Chinese Loess Plateau.A threshold-delay model showed that the lower rainfall thresholds(R^L)for P.tabuliformis and H.rhamnoides in pure plantations were 9.6 and 11.0 mm,respectively,and the time lags(τ)after rainfall were 1.15 and 1.76 d for corresponding species,respectively.The results indicated that P.tabuliformis was more sensitive to rainfall pulse than H.rhamnoides.In addition,strong stomatal control allowed P.tabuliformis to experience low g_s and P_r in response to drought,while maintaining a high midday leaf water potential(Ψ_m).However,H.rhamnoides maintained high g_s and P_r at a lowΨ_m expense.Therefore,P.tabuliformis and H.rhamnoides can be considered as isohydric and anisohydric species,respectively.In mixed plantation,the values of R^L for P.tabuliformis and H.rhamnoides were 6.5 and 8.9 mm,respectively;and the values ofτwere 0.86 and 1.61 d for corresponding species,respectively,which implied that mixed afforestation enhanced the rainfall pulse sensitivity for both two species,especially for P.tabuliformis.In addition,mixed afforestation significantly reduced SF_n,g_s,and P_r for P.tabuliformis(P<0.05),while maintaining a high leaf water potential status.However,no significant effect of mixed afforestation of H.rhamnoides was observed at the expense of leaf water potential status in response to drought.Although inconsistent physiological responses were adopted by these species,the altered water consumption characteristics,especially for P.tabuliformis indicated that the mixed afforestation requires further investigation.TANG Yakun WU Xu CHEN Yunming 2018Journal of Arid Land2018,10,6:7
3High-efficiency broadband polarization-independent superscatterer using conformal metasurfaces显示文摘Safe detection of an arbitrarily shaped platform is critical for survivability, rescue, or navigation safety in a remote region. Metasurfaces afford great potential due to their strong electromagnetic(EM) wave control. However,studies have mainly focused on the physics and design of metasurfaces on planar plates, which does not satisfy the current requirements of aerodynamics and aesthetics. Herein, we propose a sophisticated strategy to design a metasurface that can wrap over arbitrarily shaped objects with moderate curvature on which optical aberrations are commonly introduced. By designing each meta-atom on the basis of the required position and phase compensation, exact EM wavefronts are restored. For verification, several conformal metasurfaces were designed and numerically studied on metallic cylinders at the microwave spectrum. A proof-of-concept device is fabricated and is experimentally characterized. The results demonstrate the availability of the desirable dual-beam superscatterer with strong backscattering enhancement toward two directions, thus indicating that the distortions induced by an arbitrary platform can be efficiently corrected. 4A New Species of the Genus Rhacophorus(Anura:Rhacophoridae) from Southern China显示文摘A new species of rhacophorid of the genus Rhacophorus is described from the Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve, Guangxi, Southern China. Rhacophorus pinglongensis sp. nov. is compared with congeners from China and other parts of Southeast Asia. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by combination of following characters:(1) small size(adult male, SVL 32.0-38.5 mm);(2) smooth and green dorsum;(3) flanks, axilla, ventral surface of forearms, inguinal, anterior and posterior surfaces of thighs, ventral surface of shank, and dorsal surface of feet covered with black blotches with white spots or white spots with a faint orange tint;(4) ventral surface of feet and webbing tangerine;(5) supratympanic fold weak;(6) outer margin of forearms and feet with low dermal ridges;(7) calcars absent on heels;(8) iris silver, diffusing to ecru laterally with light khaki ring along margin. The new species is closely related to R. dorsoviridis, R. moltrechti, and R. nigropunctatus based on adult morphology. 5Two Ultraviolet Radiation Datasets that Cover China显示文摘Ultraviolet(UV) radiation has significant effects on ecosystems, environments, and human health, as well as atmospheric processes and climate change. Two ultraviolet radiation datasets are described in this paper. One contains hourly observations of UV radiation measured at 40 Chinese Ecosystem Research Network stations from 2005 to 2015. CUV3 broadband radiometers were used to observe the UV radiation, with an accuracy of 5%, which meets the World Meteorology Organization's measurement standards. The extremum method was used to control the quality of the measured datasets. The other dataset contains daily cumulative UV radiation estimates that were calculated using an all-sky estimation model combined with a hybrid model. The reconstructed daily UV radiation data span from 1961 to 2014. The mean absolute bias error and root-mean-square error are smaller than 30% at most stations, and most of the mean bias error values are negative, which indicates underestimation of the UV radiation intensity. These datasets can improve our basic knowledge of the spatial and temporal variations in UV radiation. 8Hierarchical graphite foil/CoNi2S4 flexible electrode with superior thermal conductivity for high-performance supercapacitors显示文摘Effective heat dissipation is a crucial issue in electrochemical energy storage devices. Thus, it is highly desirable to develop high-performance electrode materials with high thermal conductivity. Here, we report a facile one-step electrodeposition method to synthesize ternary cobalt nickel sulfide(CoNi_2S_4)flower-like nanosheets which are grown on graphite foil(GF) as binder-free electrode materials for supercapacitors. The as-fabricated GF/CoNi_2S_4 integrated electrode manifested an excellent thermal conductivity of 620.1 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1) and a high specific capacitance of 881 F·g^(-2) at 5 mA cm^(-2), as well as good rate capability and cycling stability. Ultimately, the all-solid-state symmetric supercapacitor based on these advanced electrodes demonstrated superior heat dissipation performance during the galvanostatic charge-discharge processes. 9A New Species of Gracixalus (Anura: Rhacophoridae) from West Guangxi, China显示文摘We discovered a new species of the genus Gracixalus,Gracixalus tianlinensis sp.nov.which is morphologically almost similar to G.jinggangensis,G.jinxiuensis and G.sapaensis,but is distinguished from these species and all other rhacophorids in China and adjoining countries by a combination of the following characters:(1)SVL 30.3-35.9 mm in male,35.6-38.7 mm in female,(2)head length less than head width,(3)vomerine teeth absent,(4)supratympanic fold distinct,(5)axilla and posterior surface of flanks pale yellow,(6)nuptial pads distinct on Finger I and slightly visible on Finger II,(7)dorsum brown to beige,with an inverse Y-shaped dark brown marking,(8)single subgular vocal sac.Our preliminary phylogenetic analyses implied G.tianlinensis sp.nov.is sister to G.sapaensis with well-supported values.Currently,this new species is known to be distributed in montane evergreen forests in association with montane bamboo in Cenwanglaoshan National Nature Reserve,Tianlin County,Guangxi,China.Weicai CHEN Yongjian BEI Xiaowen LIAO Shichu ZHOU Yunming MO 2018Asian Herpetological Research2018,9,2:1

17A New Species of Odorrana Inhabiting Complete Darkness in a Karst Cave in Guangxi, China显示文摘A new species of the genus Odorrana is described from a completely dark karst cave of northeastern Guangxi, southern China. The new species, Odorrana lipuensis sp. nov., can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following characters: medium size(SVL: 40.7–47.7 mm in males, 51.1–55.4 mm in females); tips of all but first finger expanded with circummarginal grooves; smooth, grass-green dorsum with irregular brown mottling; pineal body invisible; throat to upper abdomen with gray mottling; dorsal surfaces of limbs with brown bands; dorsolateral fold absent; tiny spinules on lateral body, temporal region, and anterior and posterior edge of tympanum; white nuptial pad present on finger I; males lacking vocal sacs; females having creamy yellow eggs, without black poles. Uncorrected sequence divergences between O. lipuensis sp. nov. and all homologous 16 S rRNA sequences of Odorrana available on Gen Bank is equal to or greater than 4.9%. 18A new Tin-based O3-Na_(0.9)[Ni_(0.45-x/2)Mn_xSn_(0.55-x/2)]O_2 as sodium-ion battery cathode显示文摘Recently,sodium-ion batteries(SIBs),regarded as promising supplements for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),especially in the large-scale energy storage field,are attracting more and more attention.However,the limited suitable cathode materials hinder the wide commercialization of SIBs.Given this aspect,in this work,a new layered oxide with 4d metal Tin was synthesized and investigated as cathode material for SIBs.Two optimized sodium-deficient O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.45)Sn_(0.55)O_2and O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.4)Mn_(0.1)Sn_(0.5)O_2were selected for comprehensive investigation,both of which exhibited high operating voltage of around 3.45 V with smooth charge/discharge curves.In comparison,O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.4)Mn_(0.1)Sn_(0.5)O_2shows a higher reversible capacity(65 m A h/g,0.1 C),better rate capability and cycling stability than that of O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.45)Sn_(0.55)O_2(50 mA h/g,0.1 C),indicating that a small amount of Mn-substitution can improve the electrochemical performance.This work presents a new possibility of discovering potential cathode candidates by exploring the Tin-based layered oxides.Xiaohui Rong Xingguo Qi Yaxiang Lu Yuesheng Wang Yunming Li Liwei Jiang Kai Yang Fei Gao Xuejie Huang Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,4:0

20Sedimentary Features and Paleogeographic Evolution of the Middle Permian Trough Basin in Zunyi,Guizhou,South China显示文摘Based on detailed field surveys,numerous sections and drillcores as well as analyses of lithofacies and sedimentary facies,sedimentary differentiation in the Middle Permian Zunyi(northern Guizhou,South China)trough basin was studied in detail.Caused by activities of the Emeishan mantle plume,the regional extensional setting and the extinguishing of carbonate production factories were shown from Guizhou to Yunnan.Three types of sedimentary enironments were developed in the study area:platform,slope,and basin.In this work,we established a sedimentary model for the study area,identified 14 syndepositional faults,and created the detailed reconstruction of the trough basin via a sedimentological investigation.It is found that the paleogeographic evolution of the study area can be divided into six stages:(1)a pre-rifting stage,(2)rapid rifting and subsidence,(3)stable rifting and subsidence,(4)the second stage of rifting and subsidence,(5)silicification,and(6)regional uplift and denudation.The sedimentary features and paleogeographic evolution of the Maokou Formation in Zunyi show that the platform,slope,and basin sedimentary features coexisted.In addition,the extensional setting and extinguishing of carbonate production factories were important preconditions for the evolution of the platform region in the study area,and the activity of syndepositional faults also played an important role in the paleogeographic evolution of this area.Zhichen Liu Qi Zhou Ke Liu Yang Wang Deng Chen Yunming Chen Lin Xiao 2023Journal of Earth Science2023,34,6:0
