Construction of a host range-expanded hybrid baculovirus of BmNPV and AcNPV, and knockout of cysteinase gene for more efficient expression显示文摘AcNPV (Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus) and BmNPV(Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus) are two principal insect-baculovirus expression systems, each having different characteristics. AcNPV has a wider host range and can infect a series of cell lines thus making it suitable for cell suspension culture expression, but the small size of the host insect, A. californica, makes AcNPV less suitable for large scale protein synthesis. In contrast, BmNPV can only infect the silkworm, Bombyx mori, which is well-known for its easy rearing and large size. These characteristics make the BmNPV system especially suitable for large-scale industrial ex-pression. To utilize the advantages of both AcNPV and BmNPV, we tried to expand their host range through homologous recombination and successfully constructed a hybrid baculovirus of AcNPV and BmNPV, designated as HyNPV. The hybrid baculovirus can infect the hosts of both AcNPV and BmNPV. Taking the human basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) gene as an appli-cation example, we constructed a recombinant, HyNPV-bFGF. This construct is able to express the bFGF protein both in silkworm larvae and in common-use cell lines, sf21, sf9 and High-five. Moreover, to reduce the loss of recombinant protein due to degradation by proteases that are simultaneously expressed by the baculovirus, we knocked out the cysteinase gene coding for one of the most important baculovirus proteases. This knockout mutation improves the produc-tion efficiency of the bFGF recombinant protein. | WU Xiaofeng, CAO Cuiping, XU Yaxiang & LU Xingmeng College of Animal Sciences, Zhejiang University, Huajiachi Campus, Hangzhou 310029, China | 2004 | Science China(Life Sciences)2004,47,5: | 12
Ni-based cathode materials for Na-ion batteries显示文摘Na-ion batteries(NIBs)have attracted significant attention owing to Na being an abundant resource that is uniformly distributed in the Earth's crust.Several 3d transition metal(TM)ions have been thoroughly investigated as charge compensators in single or multiple composition systems to enhance the electrochemical performance of cathodes for the practical applications. In this review, the composition-structure-property relationship of Ni-based cathodes has been reviewed as a design perspective for NIB'S cathodes. The typical Ni-based cathode materials have bee n systematically summarized and comparatively analyzed, and it is dem on strated that Ni io ns can be used to provide charge compensation.Moreover,Ni-based cathodes present high reversible capacity owing to the multi-electron redox reactions and suitable redox pote ntial of Ni-ions redox. However, con sidering the abundan ce,cost, and hygroscopic properties of Ni eleme nt,the content of 0.15-0.35 per formula can be optimal for enhancing the performance of cathodes.Lastly, further perspectives on designing Ni?containing cathodes, including Ni-rich layered cathodes, have been discussed, which could promote the practical applications of NIBs for grid-scale energy storage in future. | Chenglong Zhao Yaxiang Lu Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,9: | 8
High-temperature treatment induced carbon anode with ultrahigh Na storage capacity at low-voltage plateau显示文摘Sodium-ion batteries(NIBs) show great prospect on the energy storage applications benefiting from their low cost and the abundant Na resources despite the expected lower energy density compared with lithium-ion batteries(LIBs). To further enhance the competitive advantage, especially in energy density, developing the high-capacity carbon anode materials can be one of the effective approaches to realize this goal. Herein, we report a novel carbon anode made from charcoal with a high capacity of ~400 m Ah g^(-1), wherein about 85%(>330 mAh g^(-1)) of its total capacity is derived from the long plateau region below ~0.1 V, which differs from those of typical hard carbon materials(~300 m Ah g^(-1)) in NIBs but is similar to the graphite anode in LIBs. When coupled with air-stable Na_(0.9)Cu_(0.22)e_(0.30)Mn_(0.48)O_2 oxide cathode, a high-energy density of ~240 Wh kg^(-1) is achieved with good rate capability and cycling stability. The discovery of this promising carbon anode is expected to further improve the energy density of NIBs towards large-scale electrical energy storage. | Chenglong Zhao Qidi Wang Yaxiang Lu Baohua Li Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2018 | Science Bulletin2018,63,17: | 7

Advanced Na metal anodes显示文摘Na metal anode, benefiting from its high theoretical capacity and lowest electrochemical potential, is one of the most favorable candidates for future Na-based batteries with high energy density. Dendrite growth, volume change and high reactivity are the formidable challenges in terms of good cycling performance and high Coulombic efficiency as well as an expected safety guarantee of Na metal anode for the practical application. Solid electrolyte interphase(SEI) layer as an indispensable component of a battery, its formation and stability play the critical role in the feasibility of Na metal anode. In this review, we first discuss the current consideration and challenges of Na metal anode, and then summarize several strategies to suppress dendrite growth and improve electrochemical performance, including interface engineering, electrolyte composition, electrode construction, and so on. Finally, the conclusion and future perspective of potential development on Na metal anode are proposed. | Chenglong Zhao Yaxiang Lu Jinming Yue Du Pan Yuruo Qi Yong-Sheng Hu Liquan Chen | 2018 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2018,27,6: | 5
Anthraquinone derivative as high-performance anode material for sodium-ion batteries using ether-based electrolytes显示文摘Organic materials, especially the carbonyl compounds, are promising anode materials for room temperature sodium-ion batteries owing to their high reversible capacity, structural diversity as well as eco-friendly synthesis from bio-mass. Herein, we report a novel anthraquinone derivative, C_(14)H_6 O_4 Na_2 composited with carbon nanotube(C_(14)H_6 O_4 Na_2-CNT), used as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries in etherbased electrolyte. The C_(14)H_6 O_4 Na_2-CNT electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 173 mAh g^(-1) and an ultra-high initial Coulombic efficiency of 98% at the rate of 0.1 C. The capacity retention is 82% after 50 cycles at 0.2 C and a good rate capability is displayed at 2 C.Furthermore, the average Na insertion voltage of 1.27 V vs. Na^+/Na makes it a unique and safety battery material, which would avoid Na plating and formation of solid electrolyte interface. Our contribution provides new insights for designing developed organic anode materials with high initial Coulombic efficiency and improved safety capability for sodium-ion batteries. | Linqin Mu Yaxiang Lu Xiaoyan Wu Yuejun Ding Yong-Sheng Hu Hong Li Liquan Chen Xuejie Huang | 2018 | Green Energy & Environment2018,3,1: | 2
Large Scale One-Pot Synthesis of Monodispersed Na_(3)(VOPO_(4))_(2)F Cathode for Na-Ion Batteries显示文摘Na-ion batteries(NIBs)have received significant interest as potential candidates for large-scale energy storage owing to the widespread distribution of sodium and superior low-temperature performance. However, their commercial application is usually hindered by the high production cost and inadequate performance for electrode materials, particularly for cathodes.Na_(3)(VOPO_(4))_(2)F(NVOPF)has been recognized as one of the most promising cathodes for high-energy NIBs owing to the high working voltage and energy density. Here,we report a facile highly efficient room-temperature solution protocol for large-scale synthesis of NVOPF cathode for NIBs.By simply regulating pH,NVOPF can be obtained, which delivered a discharge capacity of 120.2 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 C and 72%capacity retention over 8000 cycles at 25 C.Besides, the kilogram-level NVOPF products have been synthesized, and 26650 cylindrical cells were fabricated, which exhibit excellent cycling stabilities, remarkable lowtemperature performance with comparable safety features. We hope our findings could provide insights on the industrial application of NVOPF in NIBs. | Qiangqiang Zhang Xing Shen Quan Zhou Kaixuan Li Feixiang Ding Yaxiang Lu Junmei Zhao Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2022 | Energy Material Advances2022,,1: | 2
Disordered carbon anodes for Na-ion batteries—quo vadis?显示文摘Na-ion batteries(NIBs)are gradually attracting much attention as an alternative to lead-acid batteries and supplement to Li-ion batteries(LIBs)owing to the abundant Na resources and excellent cost-effectiveness.Since the most commonly used graphite as an anode material in LIBs cannot be inherently used in NIBs,tremendous efforts have been made to advance the fundamental understanding and design of suitable anode materials for NIBs,including the improvement of Na storage capacity and the study on Na storage mechanisms.According to all these studies, disordered carbons are now the most promising anode candidates for NIBs.In this review,we discuss the current challenges and remaining problems to be solved in the area of disordered carbon anode materials for NIBs and provide future insights and research directions. | Fei Xie Zhen Xu Zhenyu Guo Yaxiang Lu Liquan Chen Maria-Magdalena Titirici Yong-Sheng Hu | 2021 | Science China Chemistry2021,64,10: | 2
Modification of NASICON Electrolyte and Its Application in Real Na-Ion Cells显示文摘The low ionic conductivity of solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)and the inferior interfacial reliability between SSEs and solid-state electrodes are two urgent challenges hindering the application of solid-state sodium batteries(SSSBs).Herein, sodium(Na)super ionic conductor(NASICON)-type SSEs with a nominal composition of Na_(3+2x)Zr_(2-x)MgxSi_(2)PO_(12) were synthesized using a facile two-step solid-state method, among which Na_(3.3)Zr_(1.85)Mg_(0.15)Si_(2)PO_(12)(x=0.15,NZSP-Mg_(0.15))showed the highest ionic conductivity of 3.54mS∙cm^(-1) at 25℃.By means of a thorough investigation,it was verified that the composition of the grain boundary plays a crucial role in determining the total ionic conductivity of NASICON.Furthermore, due to a lack of examination in the literature regarding whether NASICON can provide enough anodic electrochemical stability to enable high-voltage SSSBs,we first adopted a high-voltage Na_(3)(VOPO_(4))2F(NVOPF)cathode to verify its compatibility with the optimized NZSP-Mg_(0.15) SSE.By comparing the electrochemical performance of cells with different configurations(low-voltage cathode vs high-voltage cathode, liquid electrolytes vs SSEs),along with an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy evaluation of the after-cycled NZSP-Mg_(0.15),it was demonstrated that the NASICON SSEs are not stable enough under high voltage, suggesting the importance of investigating the interface between the NASICON SSEs and high-voltage cathodes.Furthermore,by coating NZSP-Mg_(0.15) NASICON powder onto a polyethylene(PE)separator(PE@NASICON),a 2.42 A∙h non-aqueous Na-ion cell of carbon|PE@NASICON|NaNi_(2/9)Cu_(1/9)Fe_(1/3)Mn_(1/3)O_(2) was found to deliver an excellent cycling performance with an 88%capacity retention after 2000 cycles, thereby demonstrating the high reliability of SSEs with NASICON-coated separator. | Qiangqiang Zhang Quan Zhou Yaxiang Lu Yuanjun Shao Yuruo Qi Xingguo Qi Guiming Zhong Yong Yang Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2022 | Engineering2022,8,1: | 1

Hunting Sodium Dendrites in NASICON-BasedSolid-State Electrolytes显示文摘NASICON-(Na superionic conductor-)based solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)are believed to be attracting candidates for solid-state sodium batteries due to their high ionic conductivity and prospectively reliable stability. However, the poor interface compatibility and the formation of Na dendrites inhibit their practical application.Herein,we directly observed the propagation of Na dendrites through NASICON-based Na3.1Zr2Si2.1P0.9O12 SSE for the first time. Moreover,a fluorinated amorphous carbon(FAC)interfacial layer on the ceramic surface was simply developed by in situ carbonization of PVDF to improve the compatibility between Na metal and SSEs.Surprisingly,Na dendrites were effectively suppressed due to the formation of NaF in the interface when molten Na metal contacts with the FAC layer.Benefiting from the optimized interface, both the Na||Na symmetric cells and Na3V2(PO4)3||Na solidstate sodium batteries deliver remarkably electrochemical stability. These results offer benign reference to the maturation of NASICON-based solid-state sodium batteries. | Qiangqiang Zhang Yaxiang Lu Weichang Guo Yuanjun Shao Lilu Liu Jiaze Lu Xiaohui Rong Xiaogang Han Hong Li Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2021 | Energy Material Advances2021,,1: | 1
A new Tin-based O3-Na_(0.9)[Ni_(0.45-x/2)Mn_xSn_(0.55-x/2)]O_2 as sodium-ion battery cathode显示文摘Recently,sodium-ion batteries(SIBs),regarded as promising supplements for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),especially in the large-scale energy storage field, are attracting more and more attention. However, the limited suitable cathode materials hinder the wide commercialization of SIBs.Given this aspect,in this work,a new layered oxide with 4d metal Tin was synthesized and investigated as cathode material for SIBs.Two optimized sodium-deficient O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.45)Sn_(0.55)O_2and O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.4)Mn_(0.1)Sn_(0.5)O_2were selected for comprehensive investigation, both of which exhibited high operating voltage of around 3.45 V with smooth charge/discharge curves. In comparison,O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.4)Mn_(0.1)Sn_(0.5)O_2shows a higher reversible capacity(65 m A h/g,0.1 C),better rate capability and cycling stability than that of O3-Na_(0.9)Ni_(0.45)Sn_(0.55)O_2(50 mA h/g,0.1 C),indicating that a small amount of Mn-substitution can improve the electrochemical performance. This work presents a new possibility of discovering potential cathode candidates by exploring the Tin-based layered oxides. | Xiaohui Rong Xingguo Qi Yaxiang Lu Yuesheng Wang Yunming Li Liwei Jiang Kai Yang Fei Gao Xuejie Huang Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2019 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,4: | 0
Triple effects of Sn-substitution on Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67O2显示文摘Layered oxides are one of the most prom ising cathode materials for sodium ion batteries (NIBs), however, the relatively low working voltage hinders the increase of energy density thus limiting the application scenarios of NIBs. Here we prepared and investigated a series of Sn^4+ substituted NaO.67NiO.33M na67-xSnxO2 (x = 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.33) and found that Sn-substitution can induce three effects: promoting O3-stack formation, sm oothing the voltage profile and increasing the working voltage to -3.6 V. This study would enrich the knowledge of Sn-substitution and give guide to the better design of high-voltage cathode materials for NIBs. | Xiaohui Rong Fei Gao Feixiang Ding Yaxiang Lu Kai Yang Hong Li Xuejie Huang Liquan Chen Yong-Sheng Hu | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,7: | 0
P2-type Na_(0.6)[Mg(Ⅱ)_(0.3)Mn(Ⅳ)_(0.7)]O_2 as a new model material for anionic redox reaction显示文摘A new model material of Na_(0.6)[Mg(Ⅱ)_(0.3)Mn(Ⅳ)_(0.7)]O_2, with only Mg^(2+) and Mn^(4+) in the transition metal layers, is synthesized for the research of anionic redox reaction. The material delivers a capacity of ~130 mAh/g with a long plateau at ~4.2 V in the initial charge profile, indicating anionic redox reaction(ARR) involved during the initial desodiation process. In the following cycles, the reversible capacity can reach a high value of ~210 mAh/g, which is probably derived from the participation of both ARR and Mn^(3+)/Mn^(4+) redox couples, further proving the charge compensation from ARR during the initial charge and following cycles. The designed cathode material without Mn^(3+) helps avoid the influence of oxygen activity from transition metals, enabling the investigation of ARR without other distractions. | Xiaohui Rong Fei Gao Yaxiang Lu Kai Yang Yongsheng Hu | 2018 | Chinese Chemical Letters2018,29,12: | 0
Intrinsic effects of precursor functional groups on the Na storage performance in carbon anodes显示文摘The oxygen-containing functional groups in disordered carbon anodes have been widely reported to influence the Na storage performance. However, the effect of original oxygen-containing groups in the precursors on the final structures and electrochemical performance is rarely studied.Herein,we used the anthraquinone derivatives with different oxygen-containing functional groups as precursors to make the disordered carbon anodes for Na-ion batteries(NIBs).Through comprehensive structural and electrochemical analyses,we found that the different types of functional groups in carbon precursors directly affect the cross-linking process during carbonization. The original precursors containing enough inter-chain oxygen or oxygen-containing functional groups with unsaturated bonds unattached to the ring are beneficial for the oxygen atoms to remain or cross-link in structure to result in more C–O–C group, forming nanovoids and disordered structure, which then determine the high performance of the carbon anodes in NIBs.This work highlights the importance of the type/content of functional groups in precursor and provides guidance for the future design of carbon anodes in NIBs from the perspective of precursor selection. | Xiaohan Tang Fei Xie Yaxiang Lu Zhao Chen Xiangfei Li Hong Li Xuejie Huang Liquan Chen Yuanjiang Pan Yong-Sheng Hu | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,11: | 0
Achieving high initial Coulombic efficiency for competent Na storage by microstructure tailoring from chiral nematic nanocrystalline cellulose显示文摘Although it has been proven that porous, heteroatomic, and defective structures improve Na storage performance, they also severely affect the initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)due to the huge irreversible capacity in the first cycle, which always limits the practical application of carbon anodes in commercial Na-ion batteries(NIBs).Here,we show the successful synthesis of nanocrystalline cellulose and the derivative hard carbons.A series of treatments including acid hydrolysis, hydrothermal carbonization, and hightemperature pyrolysis help tune the pores, heteroatoms, and defects to achieve an optimized balance between superior ICE and reversible capacity of up to 90.4%and 314 mAh g^(−1).This study highlights that tailoring the electrode microstructure could be an important strategy in the future design of carbonaceous anode materials for high-performance Na-ion batteries. | Fei Xie Zhen Xu Zhenyu Guo Anders CSJensen Jingyu Feng Hui Luo Feixiang Ding Yaxiang Lu Yong-Sheng Hu Maria-Magdalena Titirici | 2022 | Carbon Energy2022,4,5: | 0
